Draconi Forest / Re: When the Bough Breaks (Open)
February 25, 2022, 03:17:48 PM
The more time that Kave had spent with this girl the stranger and stranger things seemed to get. He had considered himself a rather experienced mercenary and had journeyed all across Le'ranna looking for work. Suffice to say he had seen more than a few odd things in his time traversing the land, though this situation certainly put a lot of his previous escapades to shame if they were competing to confuse the Bear-kin. For now all he could really do was hope that the girl would be able to give him more clues as to what happened, because right now he was in a dark cellar without  a lantern.

Eventually the shivering woman would start to speak up again, Kave being careful to listen so he may get more information about her. Though it was as if something grabbed her tongue as she was about to speak. He raised his eyebrow in anticipation but was met with more silence as she struggled to speak. He could tell she was visibly shaken by something, but physically she appeared to be fine. One thing was clear to him though, and that this girl needed assistance. He could certainly try and get her back to civilization, but Kave wasn't exactly versed in helping others with PTSD, which he theorized internally could be the cause for this girl's strange behaviour. Eventually she apologized and Kave was left with little answers. Shaking his head slightly he responded: "Aye, don't be sorry. Take yer time and I'll try and find ye some help." The Bear would reassure. While a bit disappointing it was understandable. People subjected to extreme trauma often had trouble recounting the events that cursed them, for the fear of reliving the past stays fresh in their minds. Especially if they happened recently, and by the looks of her he was willing to bet they did.

Just as he turned his attention onwards once more and began deciding on what direction to start walking, something brand new hit his senses. A cool voice rang out behind the bear and he instinctively turned his attention to face the source, which caused a great deal of puzzlement. There before the two of them was a man. Dressed like some wealthy Serenian noble and carrying himself to match. Where the hell had he come from? If there had been anyone else nearby Kave was likely to at least smell them. Perhaps he had simply been too distracted by the wolves and the girl to notice? In any case this stranger seemed to be polite, so Kave felt a little more at ease.  When the man took notice of the girl's condition the Bear nodded. "Oh aye, just found the thing collapsed in the field. Some hungry beasts came prowling so I warded em off." He answered truthfully, after all the Bear saw no reason to lie. "The lass can barely speak, let alone tell me what happened to her."

When the stranger began to try and give directions his attention perked up once more. Following his gaze eastward Kave nodded thankfully. Even without the girl's need for help, Kave had been lost in these woods for a few days now. He was excited to finally reach civilization again. "Aye thanks! Been wanderin' these wilds for days. Not from round here, ya know?" The strange circumstances of this meeting seemed to fade from the Bear's mind completely now that a lead out of this mess had been found. Likely something that would come back to him later. Of course he did take notice of Olivia's change again, and the stillness of her body. Still having no idea what her condition was, he began to worry. Kave knew it was safer to be faster. And as soon as he arrived the finely dressed man departed, saying farewell as he turned and walked straight into the woods. It was then that he felt the girl's body unstiffen and her breath return.

"Uhh... Right then, I think we got a headin'." He snorted somewhat awkwardly as the strange encounter ended and Kave was left with a few lingering questions. Of course that didn't matter now, as he had a clear mission. "East aye? Stay strong young one, we'll get this sorted." He said confidently before walking back into the forest towards the sun.

Ragya's brief silence as she thought about what Zakram had just asked was certainly enough to make the already nervous noble feel a small amount of dread, though thankfully it didn't last long. Zakram smiled a bit when she both confirmed that she had heard of Blackdune, and didn't immediately dismiss him in the process. Though Ragya did mention that she could not guarantee that Zakram would find what he was looking for. These terms were agreeable with the noble, after all he wasn't expecting Ragya to know where Blackdune was, if it even existed in the first place. "That much is fine, the place is said to be an ancient legend so I would be surprised if you knew its location." He responded. What he needed from Ragya was a capable bodyguard and a knowledgeable guide through the sands, he would take care of deciphering the clues and riddles that would hopefully lead to the oasis' discovery.

"If you have heard of Blackdune than you likely know the place has been lost to time, however I have something that most explorers don't." He mentioned before grabbing his bag from behind his seat and carefully pulling something out. It was a rather small but very old looking leather book. The edges were frayed and worn, and the paper inside seemed to be the same. Carved into the book's leather cover was a single odd symbol that looked like an upside down triangle within a large circle. While Zakram avoided using his father's wealth and resources to get what he wanted, he deduced it was worth it to acquire this book. Zakram continued to speak quietly as he showed Ragya the contents. "This ancient book had been sitting deep within the ancient tomb of the merchant prince who was said to have first discovered and ruled the region of Blackdune." He said, sliding the old object across the table so that the Hunter could inspect it herself. "Just like the old oasis, the tomb was thought to be nothing more than an old legend too until it was recently discovered by miners." Zakram continued. "Inside seems to be a detailed diary of the old merchant prince himself! Or at least it was at one point, I'm afraid time hasn't been too kind to it." The noble elaborated. Sure enough the inside was chocked full of old writing in an ancient Essyrini dialect that very few alive today knew how to read. "I've deciphered as much as I could, and it definitely confirms that Blackdune is real! At least if you believe what is written in here." He continued. "Though my ancient Essyrini is still a bit shoddy, there are many parts I haven't figured out yet." He told her truthfully. "Though I'm confident with this book the two of us can finally rediscover this oasis." Zakram said with a hint of excitement in his voice.

Finding this old book had been a stroke of luck for the young noble. For the longest time he had been searching for signs and clues concerning mythical locations in the desert far from public knowledge. If he was to be successful in creating a safe haven away from the cruel society of Essyrn and its rulers like his own father than Blackdune seemed like a strong candidate, and now he had a lead to where it was. Ironic that the slaves from Kellok's own mines found the old tomb of Blackdune's ruler, because now it was going to help the noble achieve his ultimate goal of freeing both himself and hopefully hundreds more from the evil influence of the merchant princes. Though Zakram did find it rather odd that the merchant prince that ruled Blackdune would be buried in a tomb far from its location. Still, Zakram was determined now and he just hoped Ragya would take him seriously. "With my knowledge and your expertise, we can uncover this lost paradise."

The longer the two spoke the more and more relaxed Zakram began to feel. At least from his current perspective, this Ragya seemed to be pretty understanding and not at all how he was expecting... But then again Zakram wasn't exactly sure WHAT he had been expecting anyways. There was still so little about his potential hire that he knew and he hadn't thrown caution to the wind just yet, he'd need to watch his step. He just hoped that if Ragya was clever enough to know the truth behind his actions she wouldn't take it personally.

"Oh! Oh good.." Zakram responded with a nervous smile when she told him that she was familiar with the desert. Of course this entire meeting would've been a colossal waste of time for the both of them had she not been so Zakram wasn't entirely sure why he sounded so relieved. Perhaps it was just a byproduct of the stress he felt from keeping his plans a secret from his father. He knew Kellok better than anyone, and if he found out about Zakram's intentions he would not hesitate to crush them before he could have any chance to act on his plans. This was mostly the reason why he had chosen such a location. His father had eyes and ears everywhere within the more wealthy parts of town.

When Ragya asked him about the specifics of his plan, he thought for a moment. It was true that Zakram needed a guide, but that didn't mean he hadn't done any research of his own yet. While he had never been there in person, Zakram had still studied the more well known parts of the desert near the boarders to unknown territory. He had heard legends of a place deep within the sands that was said to be a massive and beautiful oasis, yet the path to such a place was perilous to say the least, which was why no concrete proof of its existence had surfaced yet. He had hoped with Ragya's help he could put these rumors to rest and prove it was real.

"Uh.. Tell me, have you heard of.." He started, stopping briefly to look around before leaning in closer and speaking in a more hushed tone. "Blackdune's Rest?" he asked, his eyes being dead serious. Despite the sinister name, the place was said to be a paradise hidden in the sands. From all the information he could find about its existence from old questionable texts and maps, it would make the perfect spot for Zakram's future construction project. He just hoped that Ragya would not laugh him off if it turns out she did not believe such a place existed. After all, only old legends and sketchy unconfirmed stories spoke about this fabled haven.

Kave couldn't really blame the woman for naturally assuming he had some sort of hostile intent. If him being a massive bear wasn't enough, he was also covered in head to toe with thick armor and had a massive battle axe strapped to his back. Despite all this though, Kave did often forget what he was sometimes to others. Le'ranna was filled with strange and mystical things, but that didn't make him any less strange because of it.

"N- No! Dun ye be worrying 'bout that now lassie." Kave responded quite quickly after the woman apologized. He could tell she was clearly in bad shape, and he didn't want to hurt her mental health either. "T'is a common opinion, aye?" He said, trying his best to reduce any stress she had. It was clear to Kave now that this woman carried some heavy internal scars as well.

When she tried to get up, Kave was careful to try and help but to no avail, her strength gave out again and she fell back into his paws. "Take yer time, lass." The bear encouraged before his face became more concerned and he carefully looked around at the surrounding forest for any clues as to what happened to her. Finally his attention was grabbed once again by the girl when she protested about his actions on trying to save her. She told him she had done some very bad things but Kave wasn't sure what exactly she meant. "I ain't gonna just leave ye ta die, lass." He told her, but when her eyes looked at an old book on her waist the bear's gaze followed. He stared at it for several seconds as she continued, the old thing looked frayed and worn. However, before the bear could come up with a suitable response, the woman's condition changed again!

"W- woha! T'is alright now. I am gonna help ye." He told her. Kave was still nervous though, he had yet to be given an answer as to what exactly happened to her. If he didn't know what was wrong, how could he protect her? Not to mention he was still lost and had no idea where civilization was. Though the bear had proven to be rather weak willed when it came to the desperate. He could never in good conscience leave someone like this woman in the middle of the forest.

"Alrighty then... I'm gunna pick ye up now, if that's aight?" The bear asked calmly. Luckily she was pretty light, and gave no strain to the bear. "Now lassie, can ye tell me what happened to ye?" He asked as he began walking off with her in his arms, sniffing the air in vain, hoping to catch the scent of more people so he could get her help.

Edith payed no mind to the continued coarse of human suffering, her mind too clouded with rage to even take them into account. For an entire year she searched for this place. A year she tore apart the villages and libraries of Le'ranna's coastal settlements looking for more evidence of this tome. She wandered the continent and hunted down any scrapes of knowledge only to be lured to this island on the promise of a lie. Her old blood boiled with rage just thinking about the time she wasted. Of course there was a time when Edith would've cursed the entire region but over the years she had gotten more and more used to being disappointed. When you had been alive for as long as she has, you eventually got numb to the pain of failure. That of course didn't mean Edith was ready to give up. If she had to tear the entire continent to pieces in order to find a way to die, she would.

The smell of smoke and burning flesh began to fade from Edith's senses as she gained more distance from the village. The Blood Wolf was now seemingly alone in the middle of the wilderness, save for the occasional monster that roamed between the trees. Such was the effects of her curse. Wherever she went, corruption and darkness followed. She kept her eyes on the forest ahead of her, her hands in her coat pockets. Her expression one of sour malcontent as she aimlessly wandered. Edith didn't even know where exactly she was heading now, but she figured getting back to the continent should be her priority. There was nothing left for her here in Thanatos. Not yet at least.

The Blood Wolf stopped in her tracks however when something new hit her enhanced senses. Her ears twitched a little and she turned her head slightly, her mismatched gaze wide as she stared back in the direction of the village. She sensed it... Something magical. The Blood Wolf's eyes narrowed slightly and a dark grin formed across her lip as the very air around the hexer began to stiffen. There was a survivor wasn't there... And they were trying to escape the ruins of the village with something magical. Perhaps it was the tome she sought...

As Etharyn made his way through the dark forest the air began to change slightly. An unnaturally chilled breeze whispered across the leaves bringing with it a foreboding sense of dread. The Blood Wolf was waiting for him. Sitting on a rock with her back hunched and her arms resting on her knees, Edith stared at the tree line with a fire in her eyes...

The woman's eyes eventually opened and faced Kave as his hulking form stared down on her. Just as he had assumed, she was very weak at the moment. When she finally opened her mouth and spoke to him, Kave was taken off a little by the words she said. First of all, nobody had called him "Mister Bear" in a while... At least not since he was still hanging around with Cana, but that was ages ago. Secondly she seemed to think he was here to.. eat her? The very thought put a pit in his stomach. Not to mention she seemed completely fine with that... Clearly she had gone through something more traumatic than almost being eaten by wolves.

Kave snorted slightly before responding. "Err.. Ye got it all wrong lassie, I just saved ye from bein' eaten." He told her. It took no genius to see that she was clearly not in great shape. Kave had no idea what had happened to her, and he was by no means a doctor. Sure he knew how to clean and stitch up a wound every now and again since his job ended up requiring him to do so often, but from what the bear could tell, this girl had no physical injuries on her. Maybe she was sick? "Aight well... Can ye tell me what happened? I ain't bout to let you die out here." He asked, observing her more closely and sniffing the air for any hints. People often carried scents with them that his bear nose was able to pick up on. This woman would prove to be no exception... Only her scent was odd. Completely foreign to Kave, he could not tell what that smell was. It wasn't anything like the grass she lay in or the trees of the surrounding forest.

Kave figured if he had to, he'd carry her back to civilization, but first he wanted to get a better understanding of her situation before he made any decisions. "Name's Kave, lass. I noticed a pack of mutts comin after ye so I intervened..."

Luckily for Zakram, the woman didn't seem to mind his obvious blundering around the tavern. Even he knew he looked like he had no idea what he was doing when he took a seat and tried to look inconspicuous. However as Zakram awaited a response from the woman he instantly got a chilled sense just looking at her. He couldn't quite place the source of his discomfort, but something about the woman made him nervous. Those piercing yellow eyes that studied his every move as he tried to get his bearings was enough to make the noble swallow a nervous lump in his throat. Finally she spoke, her voice soft but deadly. She introduced herself as Ragya, and Zakram felt a little more at ease, being able to give a name to this mysterious individual.

"Ah.. P-Pleasure." Zakram responded, quickly extending his hand to meet hers for a quick shake. "Terribly sorry about the delay.. I haven't been to this part of town before." He told her in a more hushed tone, though his actions would have likely already given Ragya that information. "My name is Zakram, and I'm looking for both an escort and a guide into dangerous, uncharted sands within the Moraki." He said truthfully. The desert was vast and dangerous, many parts of it still unknown. Zakram knew that if his dream was to become a reality, he needed to cultivate it somewhere far from the influence of the merchant princes... Like his father. "I take it you make frequent trips?" He asked, trying not to sound presumptuous, but judging by the nature of this meeting, he could only assume.

"No.. This can't be right. I swear I've passed this tree three times already." The large bear grumbled to himself as he carefully observed his surroundings. Clad in thick, heavy, armor Kave easily stood out among the other creatures of the forest. Not to mention his shining white fur underneath that easily gave him away. Luckily he wasn't trying to be stealthy, not that he really could even if he wanted to anyways. Grunting he lowered a large pack on his back to the ground before rummaging through it, mumbling curses of irritance under his breath. Finally he pulled out a large piece of brown parchment that had been stuffed deep inside the bag. Pulling it out, he was careful to not let his sharp claws wreck the paper even more so than it already was. "O'fer fuck's sake..." was all that followed after a long minute of silence. "This ain't the right map..."

For three days Kave had been wandering the wilds, completely lost! He'd been following the wrong map, and as a result it took him deep within the Draconi forest when he was just trying to get back to Ketra. "Oi... The lad ain't gunna be happy 'bout this one, eh?" He grumbled to himself, dreading a future situation as he adjusted his large battle axe and continued on. However, something soon happened that made the large mercenary stop in his tracks. Something smelt... off. Kave's hears flicked up and his nose twitched, he could certainly smell the scent of wolves nearby. While normally he wouldn't feel concerned, seeing as most forest predators preferred to give the bear a wide berth, but it wasn't just wolves he smelt either, but the scent of a human caught his nose as well! That didn't bode well, with the amount of wolves he could smell that human seemed sorely outnumbered! Growling, the bear wasted no time! He wasn't going to let some poor soul get shredded by wolves! That and maybe whoever they were could give him some directions as well!

As the pack began to slowly close in on the lone woman the trees near the edge of the clearing shook! Kave in all his might charged out of the tree line to see the situation in full with his own eyes. It wasn't good! Some lady was all alone and those wolves were about to make their move! Grunting, he tensed up his muscles and called out! "Oi! Lass! Dun yer worry, I'll take care of these beasties!" The pack soon stopped in their tracks and turned on the bear, ignoring the woman for a moment as the sized up Kave. It was true that these wolves were starving, and Kave could sense it. It seemed as though they hadn't eaten for days and become desperate, which is why there was no look or scent of fear among them when they looked at the bear. "Aight... So that's how it gunna be, ain't it?" He growled as the pack moved away from the woman and began to circle Kave instead.

With one loud bark from the alpha, they charged in! Kave refrained from using his weapon, not wanting to cause unwanted bloodshed if he could help it, but that just meant this battle was going to be annoying! One leaped and went for his arm, biting into the steel armor as it tried to hold on while the others went for his legs. "Oi! This stuff 'ere ain't cheap ye mutt!" He growled, using his colossal strength to lift up his entire arm with the wolf still biting on it! "Go back ter yer mates!" He yelled, swinging his arm around and sending the wolf flying through the air straight into two of the others! It yelped in pain, but was mostly uninjured. Just then another leaped from a tall outcrop of rock onto Kave's back, trying to bite his neck! "Aye, persistent are ya!?" He grunted, swinging his other arm around just in time to grab the beast's snout before pulling him over and throwing the creature onto the ground in front of him! Kave felt a sting of pain surge through his leg however as one of the wolves caught him off guard! Biting a space between his armor. With his strength, he had little trouble shaking the beast off, but it still left a small wound on his ankle.

Kave let out a ferocious bear-like roar which caused the remaining wolves to hesitate a bit before the alpha charged in! He was a much bigger wolf than the others, and a lot more experienced as well it seemed! The alpha sprinted straight towards Kave and he got in a position, ready to take the charge head on. "Aight 'then, come at me!" He yelled just as the creature leaped through the air and tackled Kave to the ground! He wasn't expecting such strength from the beast, but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle! Kave used both heavy paws to keep the alpha's gnashing teeth away from his face before pushing the creature up and rolling over! He wasted no time, gripping the wolf's fur with both arms before lifting the barking dog and swinging him around! He threw the alpha straight past the other wolves and into the trunk of a large tree! It landed at the base before whimpering and getting back on its feet. The other wolves soon realized Kave was more trouble than he was worth and began to withdraw into the forest, the alpha soon following...

"Yeh... N'stay away ye nasty dogs." He breathed, watching the wolves fade away into the darkness of the forest leaving him and the fallen woman alone. Soon Kave's memory snapped him back to attention as he remembered what he had been doing and he turned to the woman. She had fallen over... That didn't look good. "Oi! Lassie, you aight?" He called out as he ran up to her. He took a knee over the woman and scanned her body, trying his best to gauge her health. She was breathing at least, so that was good. He gripped her shoulders lightly and turned her head to get a better look at her face. "The dangers passed fer now lass, are ye alright? You dun look great." He remarked, hoping she was fine.

Zakram could've sworn he'd passed the place by now, but the possibility of it still being a little farther ahead was also an option, even if he wasn't exactly sure. The young noble, despite his obvious look of confusion didn't stand out among the crowd thankfully. Zakram had learned a long time ago not to rely on his father's money or influence so he had gotten used to blending in with the general populace of Essyrn. That being said, it didn't exactly help his navigation skills as much though. He had never visited this part of town before, and to him it looked just like every other busy street in the capital. Crowded with people, mostly human but he did notice a few other races as well stuck in the mix.

Sighing to himself Zakram lifted a small piece of parchment from his coat and studied the information written on it closely once again. He cocked his head around once more to see if he was anywhere near the right place, and as luck would have it, he was! Giving an internal sigh of relief, the noble carefully made his way through the crowds of people and into a small back alley. Caution hadn't left him just yet, as he carefully inspected the surroundings and taking note of any suspicious individuals that also eyed him just as much. He couldn't lie to himself and say he wasn't nervous... If any of these sketchy people knew who he was they'd likely take full advantage of his situation and leave him bleeding in the alley with all his valuables gone. Of course, Zakram had to come to terms with that when he agreed to meet here after all. He didn't know much about his contact, other than she had a reputation for guarding caravans and the like through dangerous parts of the desert. That's exactly what he needed. While it was true Zakram could not make his dream possible without the help and influence of some of Essyrn's nobles, he trusted the lower class far more than them.

Finally finding the door Zakram gave a nervous nod to a muscular man standing next to it and made his way inside, lowering his hood as he observed the tavern. It was quiet, and didn't have a lot of people in it. Good, the less eyes the better. He scanned for several moments before spotting a young woman clad head to toe in black clothing. Zakram felt nervous just looking at her. He had to admit he hadn't had a ton of dealings with these kinds of people before, so he wasn't quite sure what could happen... However he had to trust in the promise of payment as his shield for now. Besides, its not like she knew who he was.

The noble shifted the bag on his back slightly before making his way over to the woman, sitting at her table across from her. He made no trouble to hide his face as he observed her. "You're my contact, yes?" He asked, his voice shaking slightly as he slipped the piece of parchment onto the table so that Ragya could see it. It acted as proof that Zakram was the man she was supposed to meet. Even if Zakram was currently dressed as a commoner, it was obvious he was not in his element...

Of course, Mavis should've guessed that no matter how much Arthur hated the smell of her food, he'd be too lazy to actually do anything about it. She wondered how much longer he could continue to open his mouth and talk before he got too tired and just stopped. Something told her though that wasn't going to happen anytime soon. Sighing Mavis returned her attention back to her meal and was prepared to try and enjoy it as best she could, despite the conditions that were forced upon her when she came into this hall.

When Arthur was about to say something Mavis internally groaned and prepared herself for another earful when all of a sudden the entire room went quiet with the tapping of a glass. Her curiosity piqued and the girl turned her gaze to where everyone else was looking, her eyes widening slightly at the site. A woman of unnatural body size and age began to address the entire hall and Mavis could only stare with a look of shock and concern. "W- What.. Is she a teacher?" Mavis asked with a slight quiver in her voice, completely forgetting her irritation with the pillow wearing boy as the question was directed towards him.

Kunata / The Shadow In The Flames [Private]
September 30, 2020, 07:25:40 PM
The brilliant orange glow of the village lit up the tropical night as the moon rose high above the clouds. It cast its white light down on the island, clashing with the colors of the burning coastal village. Among the sounds of burning timber and crashing scaffolding the choir of human distress hovered across the destruction. There were people everywhere, though none could bear to stand! They yelled and screamed in pain as they tried to crawl through the mud, the flames searing their skin and cooking their blood! Among the shadows of the flames a single figure stood, draped in darkness and glowing with a multi colored gaze. The long black hair flowed violently in the windswept smoke as the fire climbed higher and higher into the night. Her coat of darkness let the wind guide it as well, tempting the flames with its tattered edges. She just stood there, in the middle of the destruction and chaos, her form unchanged by the heat while others burned beside her. Her expression dark and her brows furrowed, she turned her head towards her left foot, seeing a young man, mid teens, clutching to it in pain.

"This is the price for your ignorance, fool!" She growled, leaning down to grab the teenager's neck. Her black steel gauntlets tightened around his throat and elevated him off the ground, the sound of their joints echoing above the fires. He choked and gagged, flailing his weak arms towards the woman, but she did not relent. Only her eyes got darker, and her hand tightened more. "Killing you would be a mercy for what you made me do... No, you shall be made to suffer the loss of everyone you have ever known... Every single person in this village will die. Except you." She told him coldly as he watched her in horror. "Next time rumors float around your village about a sacred magical tome... Make sure they're verified, less you have people like me travel across the entire world to find... Nothing." The woman growled before dropping the man. He landed on his knees, coughing and panting while the woman walked past, straight through the flames, and into the night...

"When the town is naught but ashes and the bodies of its inhabitants are being feasted upon by hellish abominations... The Blood Wolf howls."

[Disclaimer! Dark Themes Ahead!]

__________________IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
On the surface Edith appears to be a regular human with some minor deviations. She stands a little taller than average for a human female and has quite the muscular build. Her skin is white as snow, as per the usual with any vampire, however unlike other vampires her left eye is almost golden in hue with a black marking surrounding it while the other remains a blood red. She has very long messy black hair that looks like it hasn't been cared for in a very long time (which probably isn't far from the truth), and no shirt. Instead Edith prefers to sport a very long black trench coat that contains tattered and frayed edges, suggesting it is a fairly old piece of clothing. Edith likes to keep the coat open, using white bandages that wrap around her chest and back to cover her breasts. She also wears dark reddish brown pants that lead into black boots. Lastly, Edith also uses a pair of gold rimmed steel gauntlets and shoulder pads she keeps on her at almost all times.

Spoiler

(This was a commission made for me!)
[close]

Personality
There was a time long ago when Edith was known to others as kind hearted and loving. However, endless years of blood, death, and unimaginable mental torture soon changed her. Something inside the woman snapped and she descended into madness, becoming extremely cold hearted and cruel. For the most part Edith keeps to herself. While it is true she is a wanderer, the woman still prefers to keep her distance as much as possible when it comes to interacting with others. She doesn't enjoy small talk and is never looking for friends, and as a result spends most of her days in the wilderness, far from civilization. She is quite moody and sullen most of the time, being easily annoyed and hard to approach. Because of this, Edith rarely talks at all.

However, in the rare cases that Edith does not resent conversation she can be quite barbaric. She has no love for the people of this world, and has no problem communicating that. Those that annoy her she is sooner ready to curse at the first chance she gets, or let loose a horde of her monsters to massacre their village. In the end their lives mean little, as they are nothing but tools for her to use and manipulate in an effort to bring about her end goal... Death.

Magic/Abilities

Mark of the Blood Wolf
Edith carries the blood of a long dead demon in her veins. This demon was once very powerful, and chose to take on the form of a monstrous wolf when it displayed itself to mortals. Because of the blood she carries, Edith is now cursed for eternity. If she tastes or drinks the blood of another, she undergoes a horrific transformation that turns her body into the Blood Wolf as well. She has no thoughts or control while in this form, and as a result she rampages around and kills any in her path. This process puts extreme mental and physical stress on the woman and she absolutely resents the curse for it. Not only that, but the more she transforms the longer she stays a wolf every time. Edith fears that this curse will eventually consume her, and she will become the Blood Wolf permanently. Another side effect of the curse also torments Edith as well. The stories say that no matter where the Blood Wolf goes, she brings sadness and death to those around her... And this also includes anyone she forms a bond with. None can evade the curse, and as a result Edith has seen every person she has gotten close to die in some tragic and horrific way before her.

Vampirism
Edith is a vampire, and as such she has many things attributed to vampires. Pale skin, hatred of sunlight, and the overwhelming hunger for blood. Because of the nature of Edith's curse, becoming a vampire was a stroke of extremely bad luck. She cannot survive without drinking the blood of the living, but every time she does the curse of the Blood Wolf is triggered and she transforms. Because of these results, Edith tries her hardest to starve herself for as long as she possibly can before consuming blood, but she has found it increasingly harder and harder to do as the years pass. However, there are still a few perks that come with being a vampire. Edith's speed and strength have increased ten fold and she has the ability to manipulate the shadows to her liking.

Curse Casting
Due to the nature of Edith's condition, she had become obsessed a long time ago with curses. Desperately looking for a way to end hers, Edith sought out every piece of knowledge she could. She wandered the continent, learning and studying the effects of different curses from across all cultures and magics. As a result, Edith became quite capable at casting curses herself. She has mastered all manner of hexes in an effort to destroy her own, but she is often more than willing to use her knowledge against her enemies as well.

Demon Craft
In addition to learning curses, Edith also became quite interested in the demonic plain. Hoping she could find a being powerful enough to either end her curse or her life, she relentlessly studied this field as well. However, as she learned more and more about the nature of demons, Edith discovered something quite fascinating... The building blocks of demonhood. With this newfound knowledge Edith has been able to create her very own demons and monsters. Over the years she mastered the lost art, and is capable of creating fully sentient and extremely powerful demons by corrupting mortals. She calls them "Fallen Barons". The Barons were originally created with the purpose of being used against her. She wanted to create something stronger than herself so that she could finally end the curse that had plagued her existence for so long. However, to this day none of her creations have succeeded and Edith locks the failures away inside magical objects and tosses them aside. Many of her creations now lay scattered across Le'ranna, waiting to be found by others.

Immortality
Edith is immortal. Her vampirism keeps her looking youthful while the curse of the blood wolf makes her immune to death entirely. That may sound like a boon, but given the amount of time Edith has been alive for she sees it as nothing more than a cruel curse.

The Black Weapons of the Blood Wolf
Throughout Edith’s many long journeys across the continent she came into the habit of creating powerful magical objects in addition to her demons in an effort to find a way to break her curse. These cursed objects can be anything from a legendary sword to a dark amulet, all possessing extreme magical power of some sort or another. However, due to the nature of their origins (all are an extension of the Blood Wolf’s power) They almost all have some sort of dark side effect that effects the user in some form. Similar to the demons of the Blood Wolf, when the Black Weapons failed to prove their worth to Edith she quickly abandoned them and left them to the hands of fate. To this day an unknown amount of Black Weapons still lay scattered around Le’ranna, corrupting their surroundings with their dark power, waiting to be found...

Relationships

History
Almost nothing is known about the Blood Wolf. She has been around for many many years, and as a result legends and stories about her existence have popped up all across the continent in some form or another. She is a being of hatred and cruelty, bringing about misery and death wherever she goes... Or so the legends say.

Edith Lockmyre was a kind girl. In the town she grew up in she was known to everyone as a carefree, happy child. Innocent and untouched by the cruelty of the outside world. That did not last. On one fateful day the girl was taken from her home by a vampire lord. He came in the dead of night and kidnapped the young girl from her home, bringing her to his coven in the dark fortress Dreadmoore in northern Hyoite. It was there the effects of her curse soon became apparent. The vampire lord saw potential in the young woman and wanted to craft her into a loyal servant of his coven, so he turned her. The transition was painful and all of Edith's innocence died in that castle...

It was in those dark dungeons the woman spent a good portion of her life. The vampire lord who turned her wanted to break Edith's mind so that she would be more easily controlled, and as a result he starved her of blood for many years. She got just enough to survive, but was left chained and isolated for the rest. Over time her fragile mind began to crack, and Edith descended into madness as her overwhelming thirst for blood caused her to go completely feral. She spent many nights in her cell screaming and clawing at her own skin, trying anything she could to end her suffering but nothing worked. Eventually, the vampire lord thought she was ready to become completely submissive to him, and offered her blood in exchange for her servitude. A cruel joke, as Edith had broken long ago and would have taken the offer long before this point.

All thoughts of kindness and benevolence within the woman had all but vanished completely. When a human prisoner was dumped into her cell she didn't even think twice before tearing them apart and drinking their blood! However, when she did so Edith felt a much more sinister presence stir within her body... The Blood Wolf had awakened. An overwhelming dark presence enveloped the woman in a cloud of shadow, and the pain in her body became unbearable! The vampire lord looked on in horror as her screams of pain soon morphed and changed into monstrous howls of rage! She had become the Blood Wolf, a massive beast with bright yellow eyes and uncontrollable anger.

What followed was a massacre. Every single vampire in the castle tried to stop the Blood Wolf, but nothing worked. She slaughtered every single one of them, her corruption seeping into the walls of the old fort as the monster raged. Eventually the screams and sounds of battle faded and the Blood Wolf was all that remained within the castle. After Edith awoke she soon pieced together what had happened and became terrified of herself. She left the castle behind and made her way south, hoping to find help in civilization...

The follies of this plan were soon discovered. Edith became more and more hungry for blood, and when she could no longer resist her feral instincts took over and she murdered anybody she came across if they carried blood in their veins. What soon followed was another transformation into the Blood Wolf and Edith eventually came to accept this was the cycle of her fate. Sadness and depression washed over the woman and she vowed she would find a way to break the chains of her curse. Hardening her heart she set off on her new quest, traveling the world searching for a way to break her curse... Or die.

Edith eventually returned to Castle Dreadmoore. The old fort had remained untouched since she left it many years ago, and the dark north kept it perpetually veiled in shadow. Though the memories of the place were horrific, Edith decided she would use it as the epicenter for her power. Cursing the lands around the castle, Edith caused the region to become infested with dangerous monsters and demonic creatures so all the knowledge she had gathered over the years could be stored deep within the dark and windless halls of Dreadmoore...

Absences/Returns / The Ghoster Returns (My Apology)

Hey all.

Not sure how many of you remember me, but I thought I'd make a thread confirming my return. For those that do know me and may have mixed feelings about my flaky behaviour I understand and apologize. I know me coming back to the site isn't exactly a surprise, seeing as I've left and returned several times in the past and now I'm here again. And each time I did leave I gave zero notice or warning or explanation to those who I was involved with. This was completely unfair and extremely rude on my part and I completely understand if you don't have an interest in being my roleplaying partner because of my lack of reliance to stay on board. There was really no excuse for the choices I made and I will be eternally sorry for that.

I would like to say that I'm back and here to stay (even though I know that might be hard to believe due to my past of ghosting this site) and if anyone is still interest in sharing their character's stories with me, my door is open.

The longer she sat next to this strange kid the more she felt she was unwillingly learning about him. He seemed rather lethargic and didn't exactly burst with energy. Even this menial tasks that involved sitting and eating proved to be above the line of effort he was willing to commit. Not that it really mattered much to Mavis in the end, though. She would just have to try and ignore him if she could... However that plan wouldn't last long.

She turned her head to face Arthur when he remarked on how her food smelled. With a raised eyebrow Mavis looked back at the small plate of salmon and sniffed the air before looking back at Arthur with a scowl. "If the smell bothers you, you are free to sit anywhere else." She told him, despite knowing that there likely wasn't a single spot left in this hall.

After a few seconds of nothing Mavis finally opened her eyes and noticed that almost nothing had changed. Other than the giggling of the few boys next to her she looked at them cautiously before turning to face the gargoyle and relaxing a bit. Her tense muscles fell a bit and she sighed, lowering her arms and letting the barrier dispel.

"That wasn't very funny..." She scowled at Kana. She honestly had no idea what to expect from this place, so she was sooner ready to believe that the gargoyles were living monsters as she was the sky was blue if someone told her... But of course now she'd need to get that faith checked. She swallowed the lump in her throat before awkwardly glancing at the other students looking at the commotion before sighing once again.

"Y- yeah it took me a little bit to learn how to summon her." Mavis admitted to Liam. She wasn't now sure what he was saying was truthful or not, but she mentally noted that there would likely be little gained from a harmless lie like that. "Do most of the other students here share your... sense of humor?" She asked them cautiously while her gaze wandered a bit to some of the others in the courtyard.

It seemed the boy was as disinterested in getting past their previous encounter as he was with the menu of food. Mavis stared at him for another moment before giving a defeated sigh, slumping back in previous position and lazily looking at the menu of food. This was going to be a long year to be sure. Courtesy was dead here it seemed, so much for trying to be polite.

Mavis wasn't exactly thrilled at the menu choices either. They didn't have any of her favourites. Growing up in a castle would often numb the tastebuds of its owners to the delicacies of the outside world. Mavis was no exception. The boy muttered something under his breath but Mavis tried to ignore it before choosing a random dish.

"Uh.. Salmon steak?" She said outloud in a somewhat quiter tone. In an attempt to mimic Arthur, she assumed this was the way to summon the food. Sure enough it appeared in front of her in a perfect portion.

Mavis chuckled when Kana complimented her little conjuration trick. "No, she doesn't." She said truthfully. Mavis did not really use this summon as often as she used to when she was younger. From what she could remember, the girl only called the bird "Birdy". It used to fly next to her as she explored the Hyotian tundra near her home, the flames keeping her warm even in the coldest of blizzards.

Mavis was willing to learn whatever she needed too, and she figured that following the boy's advice would be the first step to doing that. She followed them, admiring the surroundings as they drew nearer to the school. It was quite beautiful, and not exactly what she had expected. This was where her ancestors used to learn magic? Is this where their reputation all fell apart? Mavis wondered curiously as she admired a large gargoyle statue. Much to her surprise, the eyes began to glow and it came alive! She backed up suddenly, but smiled again as she was quite impressed with the magical creature... That was until the boy named Kana made mention of where she was standing.

Mavis didn't hesitate to step off the flagstone and put her hands in front of her! Without warning a massive protective dome formed around her and she braced for the worst.

To no surprise, the boy seemed just as unhappy to see Mavis as she had been to arrive at the same conclusion. However, based on crowded the hall was it didn't really seem like there was an option for her to just get up and find a new place to sit. Mavis did try to spy another spot instantly afterwards, but to no avail. With a low sigh she slumped forwards.

Mavis tried to ignore him for a moment, but soon the menus began to materialize... And the situation looked grim. It seemed as though there was considerably more students at this table than there was meant to be, so the ratio of menus to student was not exact. Mavis stared forwards as one of them materialized directly in between the two of them. She simply rolled her eyes and turned to face Arthur. "Look, we may have gotten off on the wrong foot mister... uh.. pillow wearing.. guy." She stammered, still trying to get over the fact that he had a pillow on his head.

"L- Look. My name's Mavis." She said, hoping to help defuse the tension as best she could.

Hivan Ocean / Wicked Minds Think Alike [M] [Savage]

They said it all. Everything she needed to know. Not one bit of information was held back. Mythica was sure of it. The fidgeting of their arms, the slouches of their backs, and of course the constant tapping of a nervous man's foot. A smile formed upon her lip. She had them.

"Fuck'et! I fold!" One man said, dropping his cards on the table. "Aye..." Another soon followed. Now there was only one left, and he sat directly across from the white haired pirate. He stared at her with a calculating expression. Mythica on the other hand couldn't help herself but smile a bit and tilt her head. Her cards in a neat fold within her hands, blocked from everyone's view. "So...? What'cha goin' to do there, bud?" She questioned with a somewhat innocent tone, but with just enough venom underlying it to give everyone the hints for what she was really thinking. It wasn't any mystery after all. They were all pirates, weren't they? Finally, after a few more moments of silence the man dropped his cards on the table face up for everyone to see. "I ain't pussying out like these two! I'm going all in there, honey!" He laughed confidently. And by taking one look at his cards, it wasn't a wonder why. He had what many considered to be a clean winning combo. Two golden serpents and a Kraken. Mythica's eyes grew slightly wider when she saw the combo before her, and the man continued to chuckle after noticing her reaction. "T'is safe ta assume I can just take your things then, right?" He said through a yellow smile, shifting his large tattooed arms around the pile of loot that lay directly in the middle of the table.

Mythica sighed and shook her head. "Well, I guess it looks like you win." She said, and the man laughed again before he started to pull the loot towards him. "But." She said again and everyone stopped to look at her. "Looks can be deceiving." She said with a sinister grin. Within the sleeve of her jacket a gold rimmed card silently slipped out and into her hands. The action was so subtle nobody noticed. Especially since she had redirected their attention to her face. Perks of having wind magic. Mythica then lifted her hands and dropped the cards on the table. "That my friends is the white-gold leviathan. Combined that with the three golden serpents in my hand I take the round... And the loot!" Mythica laughed. They all looked at her in disbelief for a second before the two men who had folded earlier quickly burst into a cackle while the third man who had just challenged the girl slowly slumped back into his chair, his face red with anger.

Mythica leaned back in her chair and gave the man a mocking frown. "Awe, don't look so mad about it. T'is just a game! And, well... Your gold as well." She chuckled. Mythica then quickly grabbed her mug and downed it all in one gulp before slamming it on the table. "O- Oi! Take this shiet back to the ship!" She yelled snapping her fingers. Without warning two much larger pirates got up from a table near Mythica's and walked past her before grabbing all of her winnings and walking out of the tavern. "Better luck next time there, friend." The girl sneered, standing up and flicking a coin in his direction before tipping her hat and turning around.

By the gods she had missed this. The atmosphere of the tavern never got old. Before her was a rather large tavern. The air was thick with tobacco smoke and music from a few instruments droned out most of the laughing and swearing. Mythica walked her way through the crowded room towards the barkeep. Carefully stepping over a few knocked out sailors and making sure to avoid the drunk ones who were currently brawling over a mug of ale. She took a free stool and sat with her back to the bartender, leaning against the counter and observing the room.

"I'll take the Adelan red." She said promptly. The bartender quickly fumbled about and made sure to get what she asked before sliding a mug across the counter towards the captain. These breaks were nice, and Mythica didn't allow herself enough of them. She knew her crew appreciated it at least. She was just glad nobody here knew who they really were. Her ship had quite the bounty after all, and the waters were filled with many who'd skin your hide if they could make a single copper off it.

The kid stormed off after taking obvious offense to Mavis' comment about his hat. She simply glared at him as he turned the corner before straightening the last of her books and turning in the opposite direction... Now where was that cursed room?

Later that evening all the students had been gathered in a massive room for a feast. Not really knowing what to do, Mavis sort of followed the crowd. However the girl soon found herself shoved and pushed among the bigger kids until she had no choice but to find an open spot and take refuge at one of the tables. Quickly sitting down as her hat slid downwards from the speed of her movement, she quickly readjusted it and looked around her. Much to her surprise she saw a familiar face... But it wasn't a good one.

Her eyes narrowed as she appeared to be sitting directly next to the pillow wearing kid she had run into earlier.
