Razia of Issynaranna

Age

Gender
Female

Species
Nhoplani

Height
6'8"

Occupation
Princess and warrior

Residence
Issyrimati

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description

In battle, Razia is well-armoured enough that it's difficult to make out specific details about her body- though most people would probably take notice of her massive scorpion half and the fact that she towers over almost anyone and swiftly decide to start running the other way. Those fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to come across her outside of the battlefield will be greeted the dark skin and hair that are typical of Nhoplani, as well as a remarkably muscular build that she takes exceptional care in maintaining. She makes heavy use of intricate jewellery ensembles, body art, and decorative armour pieces to accentuate her body and maintain the image of a warrior even when "off-duty". Being a royal child, she's also permitted the use of a specific plant with blue flowers and golden leaves, a privilege that she takes full advantage of by frequently incorporating them into her outfits. Best for people to understand just who exactly they're dealing with, after all.

Personality

Like many Nhoplani, Razia believes herself to be a descendant of the creator goddess Issyri, and thus considers herself responsible for exemplifying the power and majesty of the goddess' children. She has little interest in becoming Holy Dynast herself, instead preferring to practice her own form of "control over life and death" by participating in combat with Nhoplan's enemies. In truth, she believes herself to be closer in spirit to Issyri than the Holy Dynast is, but this is a sentiment that she mostly keeps to herself.

She has no interest in chasing down and slaughtering non-combatants- not out of mercy or anything like that, but because she believes there is little to prove by defeating an opponent who can't or won't fight back. In other words, it's simply a waste of her time and talents. Besides- there's almost certainly a better use for them than outright killing them. The goddess wouldn't have created them just for that, would she?

Regardless of the outcome of any particular conflict, she'll find a way to interpret it as evidence of her own superiority. She comes out on top without much difficulty? That's only to be expected for a child of the Goddess. She gets injured somehow along the way? That's a perfect opportunity to demonstrate her physical and mental resilience. The enemy refuses to fight her at all? Clearly, her fearsomeness knows no bounds.

She loses a battle? Well, that simply does not happen.

Magic/Abilities

An exceptional warrior in terms of both skill and raw strength. Although she is trained in the use of a wide variety of weapons, she favours a pair of wicked and imposing claw weapons, using them to tear opponents apart or to hold them in place long enough for her stinger to finish the job. She is extraordinarily strong even by Nhoplani standards, to the point where some speculate that she possesses some manner of blessing from a deity that complements her natural strength.

Relationships

Adored by her own people and presumably feared or hated by everyone else.

Clover's attention snapped in the direction of Jin's voice, and she shuffled around awkwardly to face him. Or at least, what she thought was him- in truth her vision was distorted enough that she couldn't make out much more than a vague shape. His voice, on the other hand, was quite unmistakable.

But... he wasn't trying to run away anymore. Why? Was sticking around to poke fun at her really worth the risk of getting caught? He was willing to steal from her and break into someone else's home in an attempt to get away, and now all of a sudden he was going to change his mind?

Following his voice, she stretched out her arm to demand her pendant back once again, only to come to a sudden stop when the shaky image finally came into focus. Immediately she noticed the cut she'd inadvertently caused, her gaze tracing back along the quickly forming trail of blood. Had he not noticed it yet? He didn't seem to be particularly concerned about it, but whether it was due to her own shock or out of genuine concern, she couldn't help but point it out, her hand coming dangerously close to touching his face.

"...I see. You mean my magic, then." She nodded, thankfully deciding against giving him another brief demonstration. While she couldn't say that fear of magic was particularly common around these parts, she supposed she couldn't blame him too much for being cautious, especially after witnessing the kind of destruction she was capable of. "So when I grabbed your arm back then, it must have been pretty frightening...

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to- it's just, well, sometimes I guess I just kind of do things without thinking them through all that much. And there wasn't much time, and... I'm making excuses, aren't I? Okay, the point is that I'm not going to do that anymore if you don't want me to."

With that, her attention shifted down to the ashes piled on top of the bulbs. She frowned a bit at the sight, clearly confused and unsure of the reason for his doing so. She'd never been a particularly neat or picky eater, but... surely getting food dirty on purpose wasn't going to make it taste any better, right? It took a moment of her shifting her focus between the fire and the ashes for her to make the connection.

"Oh!" She looked back up at him, her eyes practically sparkling with excitement and curiosity. "That's so smart! I gotta try that out myself sometime. How'd you learn to do that?"

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description

Fen is on the tall side for a Shijie-ren, and strong enough to pull people bigger than her out of danger when needed... which is quite often. She likes to keep her hands and forearms relatively unobstructed in case she needs to jump into action quickly. Otherwise, she typically doesn't bother much with keeping a neat and tidy appearance, although she does has a particular fondness for flowers and will often decorate her hair with at least a few of them. An odd quirk of hers is that her heart, which is always proudly on display, shows some subtle hints of pink along with the orange base typical of Houhu-ren and seems to glow brightly regardless of the emotional state she happens to be in. Perhaps a little too brightly...

Personality

Fen is kind and loyal, often to a fault. She finds herself getting attached to people who were previously strangers easily, and when she cares about someone, she cares about them a lot. This makes it near effortless for her to make friends and build bridges, but also comes with the unfortunate side effect of making her easier to take advantage of. Having her faith in someone be abused and broken hurts, but it would take them committing an extremely grievous transgression for her to outright refuse to forgive them. She understands that she has a gift for helping people in many ways, and has no intention of allowing that gift to go to waste. That's not to say that she won't point out problematic behaviour when she sees it, though- a crucial part of helping people out is getting them to realize that there's a problem in the first place, after all.

Fen is an idealist and optimist at heart, constantly doing her best to bring out the best in herself and others- and it often works! She just has that sort of energy that makes it hard to say no to her or give a poor effort when she's around. But that's not to say that she doesn't have her own breaking point. As much as she tries to look on the bright side and keep her spirits up, there are moments when pressure and emotions get the better of her and she feels the urge to lash out as a result. When she recognizes that she's in such a state, she'll look for a way to excuse herself and self-isolate as soon as possible- just because she's in a bad mood doesn't mean other people need to be dragged into it, she believes.

Magic/Abilities

Fen's heart is unique among Shijie-ren- while there is a process that allows energy to be transferred directly from one heart to another for the purpose of feeding those too young to eat, Fen's abilities go far beyond that. Her heart is capable of draining energy from living entities- regardless of whether they have a heart themselves- and using that energy herself or redistributing it to others. This energy can be used for promoting healing, invigorating those around her and boosting morale, and even temporarily warding off death in a pinch. The strength of her abilities depend strongly on her proximity to her target, being at their strongest when direct contact is made with her heart. Although it is theoretically possible for her to drain energy from animals or other people if needed, she strongly prefers to absorb the necessary energy from plants and will carry a decent supply of them with her in case of an emergency.

Relationships

Family - Her parents have worried and fussed over her since birth, which is something she's never really understood. They clearly care about her, but their insistence on trying to keep her away from any kind of potential danger has always been frustrating for her.

Pan Huan - Longtime bestie. She's more than happy to patch him up whenever he winds up injured (as well as engage in some playful teasing if he's not hurt too badly) and laugh along with him and his antics, but in truth she worries about him more than she lets on. What if he ends up getting hurt so badly that she's not able to help?

Clover made up just enough ground to catch a glimpse of Jin disappearing through the window, and she wasted no time following closely behind. Fortunately for her, unconventional climbs like this had never been much of an issue for her. It definitely helped that she was on the athletic side, but there was also something about it that felt natural to her. Maybe she'd done something like this a lot in the past, but had lost that memory along the others? It was worth taking into consideration, but right now she couldn't afford to focus on anything other than catching up to Jin.

She made it through the house easily enough, gradually making up ground as she went. She maintained her speed as she approached the stairs, but was caught completely off guard by the sight of Jin celebrating at the bottom. It was far too late for her to bring herself to a stop, so instead she ended up going flying down the steps at full speed, skipping a bunch of steps before finally touching down near the bottom of the staircase. Her momentum caused her to lose her footing, sending her helplessly crashing into his shoulder before landing and crumpling to the ground next to him.

Clover lay still for a moment, seemingly knocked out cold by the impact, but it wasn't long before she pushed herself off the ground and lifted her head, revealing a twisted expression of shock, distress, and rage. She shakily got to her feet, still intent on confronting the thief, but she barely managed a single step before losing her balance and falling back down to her knees.

"Oh. That's..."

Axia trailed off and considered his answer for a moment, staring deep into the growing fire as she thought to herself before eventually turning to meet his gaze. She still struggled to fully accept his argument- they would still be killing for their own selfish reasons, wouldn't they? Did it really make that much of a difference whether they killed someone to harvest parts or killed simply because someone got in their way? At the end of the day, someone was dead when they didn't have to be. But from the way he spoke and the look he gave her, she could tell that digging further probably wasn't a great idea.

For the first time in a while, the dragon found herself at a loss for words. What was the right way to respond to something like that? Should she be apologizing for asking the question? Try to console him, maybe? Did he even want her to say anything in response? She'd never been great at navigating conversations when they got too serious. They made her feel trapped, like there was no good answer for her to give. And she really didn't like feeling trapped, so instead, she decided to not-so-subtly try to shift topics.

"...Um. Are you still afraid of me?"

Oh, he did NOT just do that.

Clover stood dumbfounded for a moment after Jin snatched the necklace from her and made his exit, a silent rage quickly overtaking her. Maybe he didn't understand the significance of what he'd just taken from her- her name. He treated the whole thing like a game, shouting to himself like a maniac as he disappeared around the corner. But at that moment, she really couldn't give less of a damn about what his intentions were.

What she knew for certain was that she wanted it back. And that she was going to get it back. Immediately.

Jin might have had a slight head start on her, but he was highly underestimating her if he thought he was going to get away easily. She bolted into the alley after him at blinding speed, barely bothering to keep her head up as she focused all of her energy into catching up.

Eln's solemn response took Axia rather by surprise- of course, they were dealing with some dark subject matter, but considering everything they'd been through so far, she honestly didn't think that what she'd said was particularly shocking. If there was one lesson that had been drilled into her countless times as a hatchling- even if she constantly ignored it- it was that the wilderness could be a dangerous place, even for the strongest of creatures. Still though, this was clearly something that he felt strongly about, and she didn't wish to risk invalidating those feelings by pushing back too much.

"Well. In that case, I bet you'll fit in pretty well in Adela- if you do end up wanting to stay here, that is. Maybe meet some more dragons! I'm sure they'll appreciate the extra protection." She offered him what she hoped was a reassuring enough smile, before returning to a more neutral expression as her head tilted in thought. "I have to admit, though... I'm a little bit surprised. I wasn't really expecting such a strong reaction. I mean... it's not like those hunters weren't going to attack you. They were willing to kill whoever they needed to in order to make their profits, dragon or otherwise. I guess I don't see much of a difference between them and regular old bandits."

"Oh, you know. For teeth. Scales. Maybe bones? Basically anything that you could reasonably sell as some sort of trophy or good luck charm. People will pay a lot for that stuff since it's pretty hard to get, for obvious reasons." She answered rather impassively as she knelt down near him, her attention drawn to the steadily dwindling embers. The idea of her kind being hunted for profit was evidentially not a new concept for her. "But yes, it could speak. Not like we're speaking to each other, though. When they bond with someone, they can communicate without speaking. It's... pretty intense. I've heard that a lot of bonded partners never recover if one of them dies."

Clover's expression only darkened the more the man ran his mouth. Every. Single. Time. Why did it seem like everyone she met insisted on screwing her name up? There was absolutely zero chance it was that difficult to get it right.

And the way that he spoke to her- yeah, he was definitely making fun of her. How on earth he expected her to be able to communicate effectively using his nonsensical signs without simultaneously shouting at the top of her lungs like he did was beyond her. He was burning through her patience astonishingly quickly, but he was at least expressing an interest in talking to her. Maybe if she tried to meet him halfway...

Out came the necklace again, this time lying freely in Clover's palm. She proceeded to point at Jin, then at herself- hopefully recognizable enough as a request for help. The next part was probably the trickiest one, and she had to think for a moment before eventually pinching the broken ends together and mimicking a gentle hammering motion. Holding the ends together, she lifted the pendant up in front of him and allowed it to dangle freely- as if the damage had been repaired.

"That's- I did not-" She started, but the words died before they could leave her mouth as she wrestled for control against her roiling emotions. What the hell was this guy's problem? It was like every time he spoke, he changed his mind on whether he wanted to blame her for taking too long or not taking long enough. In an outburst of sheer frustration, she buried her face in her hands and wound up leaning back a bit too quickly. A dull thud sounded out as the back of her head collided with the wall, and she immediately regretted her action as her killer headache from the day before returned with a vengeance. "Fuck. Okay. Look. Do you want me to be here or not?"

Oh. OH. He was asking her to talk about herself?! This was going to be good.

"Ohhhh man. Where do I start? Let's see... alright. So, I'm what's called a 'dragon'. Remember- the big scaly flying lizard thing from before? That's what you could call my 'true form'. As in, that's how I was born. I mean, I wasn't born exactly like that- of course I was a lot smaller back then. Actually, I'm still pretty small in comparison to a lot of dragons. Guess it's 'cause I'm also pretty young for a dragon. We can get to be pretty old, you know. I might even be older than you! But I dunno, I never really bothered to keep track of that kind of thing.

"Anyways- dragons. They're big, they're strong. Tend to be a bit on the territorial side. A lot of them keep these things called 'hoards' where they collect a bunch of stuff and put it in one place so they can... well, they don't really tend to do much of anything with it. I guess they just like knowing that they have it or something like that? Personally, I don't see the appeal of it- always seemed like a big hassle to me, and it's not like I have anywhere to keep one anyway. I don't really like sticking to one place too much, after all.

"Oh, right. Remember that dragon you found earlier that the hunters shot down? Had a sort of bracelet-looking thing? That was an Adelan dragon. Adela- that's where you are, by the way- kind of has a thing for them. They have a whole system where they can bond with 'em and then they go flying around together. Killing one of them is considered, like, basically one of the worst crimes you can commit. Probably why those hunters were so on edge when you bumped into them, now that I think about it. As for other dragons like myself, we're decently well protected? Not as well as the ones they bond with, but I think you'd still get in pretty big trouble for hunting one, so it's a relatively safe place for me."

She finally stopped to take a breath and actually think about what she'd told him so far, before nodding to herself in satisfaction. "Yeah, I'd say that about covers the basics. Want me to elaborate on anything?"

Clover went wide-eyed as the odd man began to raise his voice and flail his arms about, seemingly criticizing her signing while simultaneously demonstrating his own. That... could not possibly be correct. Right? She'd never seen anyone do anything close to that when signing, and she certainly couldn't match those signs up to what he was actually saying. Was he making fun of her? Or... maybe he was just using a different language? It would have to be a pretty obscure one, but it was at least possible, so she refrained from judging him too harshly for the moment.

The man introduced himself as Jin, and in a manner that seemed almost practiced, she responded by briefly pulling her pendant out, gesturing towards it with one hand, then pointing to herself.

Clover.

She quickly stowed the pendant away again afterwards, preparing to sign again- she wasn't convinced that he actually understood her, but it was at least worth a shot.

["I've never seen someone use those signs before. Are you able to understand me?"]
#14
"I was worried about you, okay?! I didn't want to be gone for any longer than I had to. I wasn't about to go start running a damn bath," she growled back at him, her tail beginning to lash about indignantly as she got worked up.
"Besides- I do not reek. You must be imagining it."

(OOC: I'll be writing Clover's signing ["like this"])

Well... he was definitely friendly, alright. Maybe even a little too friendly- the way he leaned in so closely caused her to subconsciously shift away from him a bit and tighten her grip on the pendant. He was just... a lot. She immediately felt herself getting overwhelmed by the way he conducted himself, and there was a part of her that just wanted to turn around and see if she could find someone else to help.

But that wasn't really fair of her, was it? Oddities aside, he was at least being kinder towards her than a lot of the people she'd come across already. She had no right to complain if she was going to turn around and treat him poorly, so after shaking off her initial state of shock, she loosened her grip on her pendant enough for him to get a decent look at it before slipping it into her pocket to free her hands up for signing.

["I really need to get it fixed. Do you know if there's anyone around here who can help with that?"]

It was a puzzling answer for sure- in Axia's experience, what Eln had described was quite often very much not the way of things. Maybe that was just the way they did things in... wherever the heck it was that he was from. Yet another bit of information she'd have to add to her gradually growing knowledge base about him. It was progress, at least!

She nodded and began to follow behind when Eln told her to follow, only to quicken her pace a moment later to walk along side him, tilting her head up to offer him a smile. "So. Do you know how to start a fire? I'm guessing you do, right? You do seem like the type. But if you do need any help with it, well..." Her eyes lit up with an excited (or perhaps mischievous) sparkle. "Just give me the word. I'm pretty good at that kinda thing."
#17
Clover frowned to herself as she stared down at her pendant, resting gently in her hand instead of its usual position around her neck. It had certainly seen better days- while the pendant itself was relatively unharmed, the chain responsible for actually allowing her to wear it had been damaged in a recent encounter with a less-than-friendly wild animal. It was for this reason that she now found herself wandering the streets of Ketra, searching high and low for somewhere she could get the chain repaired. Asking some of the locals for advice would probably go a long way towards finding one, but so far, her attempts at doing so hadn't gotten her any closer to her goal.

Theoretically, this was one of the few places where it should be relatively easy for her to communicate with others, many of the locals didn't seem particularly keen on interacting with her for whatever reason. A few of them even looked like they were afraid of her, which she really didn't get. Gods, what was with that? Did she really stick out so much for it to become this frequent of an occurrence?

She looked up from her pendant at just the right moment to witness a man stepping out into the street- perhaps she should try approaching him next. He certainly looked friendly enough, and his appearance stood out almost as much as her own- maybe he'd be a bit more sympathetic towards her?

Coming to a decision, Clover began to approach the odd man. She gave him a warm smile as she bounded up to him, raising one hand in greeting while the other maintained its grip on her pendant. It caught the light in a particular way as she approached, letting off a subtle glimmer as the light scattered off of it.

There it was again- Lady Axia. It still felt a bit strange to be referred to in such a manner- the number of people she'd come across that respected her enough to grant her a title like that were few and far between, and she still couldn't get a good read on how exactly Eln felt about her. At first it was borderline worship, then it was treating her like a child, then it was trying to kill her, and now... well, she supposed that if any version of Eln was going to stick around for good, she'd much prefer it to be this one, so it was probably best for her not to complain too much.

Axia acknowledged his warning about the hunters with a brief nod, but all things considered, she couldn't bring herself to get too concerned about the idea. She found it highly unlikely that they would risk their lives anymore that they'd already done, so while she did keep an eye on their surroundings while Eln got to work, she wasn't specifically watching for hunters. Instead, she took a moment to quietly scan the forest for anything interesting, her eyes lighting up ever so slightly whenever they caught a glimpse of a small animal or odd plant before her gaze finally landed back on Eln. The man hadn't said anything for a while, and he did look pretty focused on the task at hand, and maaaaybe she should try not to distract him too much, but...

Oh, screw it. She just couldn't help herself.

"I have a question," she blurted out suddenly, not bothering to wait for a response from Eln before continuing. "Why is it always 'Lady' Axia? You don't need to say that if you don't want to, you know. I'm not actually a 'Lady'." Okay, nope, that definitely didn't sound right. It was probably best to clarify what she meant. "Wait, no. I mean, I guess I am a lady. Just not, like, a 'Lady' lady. Like a 'proper' lady? Um... what I mean is that people don't usually call me 'Lady'. I'm not a noble or anything, soooo... usually it's just Axia. Or, uh... sometimes decidedly less nice names."

Tighearnán's movements did little to rouse Katarina from her sleep- if anything, she only ended up leaning in more heavily as time passed. It was only when she was verbally addressed with a question that she finally began to stir, her ears twitching as they picked up on his voice.

"Mmm... what? I am Kat. The hell kind of question is that...?" She quietly mumbled back at him, apparently still half asleep. It was at least enough to get her attention though, and she slowly shifted her weight off of him, stretching her arms up and letting out a massive yawn before one eye peeked open to shoot him a skeptical look.

"Wait. How'd you even know my name, anyway? I never told you that."

He didn't know. Again. It sure seemed like there was a lot about himself that he didn't know. Could it really be that he'd forgotten all of it? Or was that just the excuse he was using in order to avoid giving her any real answers?

It really did seem like Axia's questions weren't going to get any answers at this point, and every attempt to press him further only seemed to make him even more reluctant to respond. Maybe the best solution would be to leave it be for now and give him some time to come around, but... well, it wasn't like she could just call him nothing, and "Eln-of-I-forgot-the-rest-of-it" wasn't a particularly appealing alternative. She supposed he'd just have to be "Eln", at least for the moment.

She tensed up slightly when Eln asked permission to retrieve his axe, clearly not too thrilled with the thought of him with a potential weapon back in has hands. On the other hand, allowing him to take it would probably help to build up some trust- maybe there was still a chance for her to get some answers after all! Besides, surely he wouldn't be cruel or foolish enough to swing at her again, right?

"...Alright, you can take it. But..." She swiftly pushed herself off the ground and up to her feet, managing a hopeful smile despite the uneasy atmosphere. "I do want to go with you. Can't have you wandering off on your own, now, can I?"
