Name
Razia of Issynaranna

Age
37

Gender
Female

Species
Nhoplani

Height
6'8"

Occupation
Princess and warrior

Residence
Issyrimati

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description

In battle, Razia is well-armoured enough that it's difficult to make out specific details about her body- though most people would probably take notice of her massive scorpion half and the fact that she towers over almost anyone and swiftly decide to start running the other way. Those fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to come across her outside of the battlefield will be greeted the dark skin and hair that are typical of Nhoplani, as well as a remarkably muscular build that she takes exceptional care in maintaining. She makes heavy use of intricate jewellery ensembles, body art, and decorative armour pieces to accentuate her body and maintain the image of a warrior even when "off-duty". Being a royal child, she's also permitted the use of a specific plant with blue flowers and golden leaves, a privilege that she takes full advantage of by frequently incorporating them into her outfits. Best for people to understand just who exactly they're dealing with, after all.

Personality

Like many Nhoplani, Razia believes herself to be a descendant of the creator goddess Issyri, and thus considers herself responsible for exemplifying the power and majesty of the goddess' children. She has little interest in becoming Holy Dynast herself, instead preferring to practice her own form of "control over life and death" by participating in combat with Nhoplan's enemies. In truth, she believes herself to be closer in spirit to Issyri than the Holy Dynast is, but this is a sentiment that she mostly keeps to herself.

She has no interest in chasing down and slaughtering non-combatants- not out of mercy or anything like that, but because she believes there is little to prove by defeating an opponent who can't or won't fight back. In other words, it's simply a waste of her time and talents. Besides- there's almost certainly a better use for them than outright killing them. The goddess wouldn't have created them just for that, would she?

Regardless of the outcome of any particular conflict, she'll find a way to interpret it as evidence of her own superiority. She comes out on top without much difficulty? That's only to be expected for a child of the Goddess. She gets injured somehow along the way? That's a perfect opportunity to demonstrate her physical and mental resilience. The enemy refuses to fight her at all? Clearly, her fearsomeness knows no bounds.

She loses a battle? Well, that simply does not happen.

Magic/Abilities

An exceptional warrior in terms of both skill and raw strength. Although she is trained in the use of a wide variety of weapons, she favours a pair of wicked and imposing claw weapons, using them to tear opponents apart or to hold them in place long enough for her stinger to finish the job. She is extraordinarily strong even by Nhoplani standards, to the point where some speculate that she possesses some manner of blessing from a deity that complements her natural strength.

Relationships

Adored by her own people and presumably feared or hated by everyone else.

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description

Fen is on the tall side for a Shijie-ren, and strong enough to pull people bigger than her out of danger when needed... which is quite often. She likes to keep her hands and forearms relatively unobstructed in case she needs to jump into action quickly. Otherwise, she typically doesn't bother much with keeping a neat and tidy appearance, although she does has a particular fondness for flowers and will often decorate her hair with at least a few of them. An odd quirk of hers is that her heart, which is always proudly on display, shows some subtle hints of pink along with the orange base typical of Houhu-ren and seems to glow brightly regardless of the emotional state she happens to be in. Perhaps a little too brightly...

Personality

Fen is kind and loyal, often to a fault. She finds herself getting attached to people who were previously strangers easily, and when she cares about someone, she cares about them a lot. This makes it near effortless for her to make friends and build bridges, but also comes with the unfortunate side effect of making her easier to take advantage of. Having her faith in someone be abused and broken hurts, but it would take them committing an extremely grievous transgression for her to outright refuse to forgive them. She understands that she has a gift for helping people in many ways, and has no intention of allowing that gift to go to waste. That's not to say that she won't point out problematic behaviour when she sees it, though- a crucial part of helping people out is getting them to realize that there's a problem in the first place, after all.

Fen is an idealist and optimist at heart, constantly doing her best to bring out the best in herself and others- and it often works! She just has that sort of energy that makes it hard to say no to her or give a poor effort when she's around. But that's not to say that she doesn't have her own breaking point. As much as she tries to look on the bright side and keep her spirits up, there are moments when pressure and emotions get the better of her and she feels the urge to lash out as a result. When she recognizes that she's in such a state, she'll look for a way to excuse herself and self-isolate as soon as possible- just because she's in a bad mood doesn't mean other people need to be dragged into it, she believes.

Magic/Abilities

Fen's heart is unique among Shijie-ren- while there is a process that allows energy to be transferred directly from one heart to another for the purpose of feeding those too young to eat, Fen's abilities go far beyond that. Her heart is capable of draining energy from living entities- regardless of whether they have a heart themselves- and using that energy herself or redistributing it to others. This energy can be used for promoting healing, invigorating those around her and boosting morale, and even temporarily warding off death in a pinch. The strength of her abilities depend strongly on her proximity to her target, being at their strongest when direct contact is made with her heart. Although it is theoretically possible for her to drain energy from animals or other people if needed, she strongly prefers to absorb the necessary energy from plants and will carry a decent supply of them with her in case of an emergency.

Relationships

Family - Her parents have worried and fussed over her since birth, which is something she's never really understood. They clearly care about her, but their insistence on trying to keep her away from any kind of potential danger has always been frustrating for her.

Pan Huan - Longtime bestie. She's more than happy to patch him up whenever he winds up injured (as well as engage in some playful teasing if he's not hurt too badly) and laugh along with him and his antics, but in truth she worries about him more than she lets on. What if he ends up getting hurt so badly that she's not able to help?

Adela / Valerie, Monster Hunter
August 24, 2023, 08:16:18 PM
QUICK STATS

Name
Valerie, AKA Val. If she has a surname, she's not particularly forthcoming about it.

Age
30

Gender
Female

Species
Human

Ethnicity
Indeterminate. Apparently, her parents aren't from Le'raana.

Height
5'10"

Occupation
Monster hunter

Residence
Formerly, a village in Adela. Currently, she doesn't have a permanent home.

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description

Valerie is a tall and sturdy woman with dark tanned skin and wild reddish-orange hair. Though she originates from elsewhere, she could quite easily pass as Adelan at a quick glance. Due to her frequent travels and the rough nature of her occupation, she's very rarely "tidy" looking, frequently sporting cuts and bruises as well as disheveled hair and clothing (why bother cleaning it all up when it's just going to get messed up again, she says). She wears an eyepatch over where her left eye used to be, having lost it in a particularly horrific encounter against one of her tougher opponents. It's also rare to see her without some kind of weapon on her person.

Personality

Strong-willed and assertive, Valerie is extremely stubborn when it comes to her beliefs and values and has little interest in keeping her opinions to herself, resulting in many verbal altercations... and a few physical ones. Having experienced more than her fair share of loss and grief, especially in recent years, one might expect her to be more hesitant when it comes to forming new bonds and growing closer to people for fear of once again losing someone important to her. In reality, it's quite the opposite- she grows fond of new acquaintances quickly and will go to great lengths to defend those she cares for, which can lead to bouts of overprotective behaviour. She's highly confident in her own abilities, but she also recognizes that regular practice and refinement is necessary to maintain those skills and thus tries not to get too complacent.

Magic/Abilities

Although she's never been professionally taught, Valerie has trained extensively in the use of both sword and shield. She's pretty damn strong and often relies on that to give her an edge in battle rather than focusing on proper technique. Typically her work involves fighting off monsters and other beasts, but she can hold her own in a fight against other people in a pinch.

Relationships

Lesley - Her former lover, as well as a student of her father.
Lemmick - Her estranged father. Deceased.
Amara - Her mother. Missing, presumed deceased.

History

Her parents split when she was young, with her mother taking her to live a relatively quiet life while her father continued his travels as a wandering swordsman. Valerie spent most of these days helping her mother out with odd jobs around the village, practicing swordplay in her free time. Regardless of who may have been at fault for her parents' separation or how complicated the situation might have been, the young girl ultimately ended up blaming her father, seeing as he couldn't exactly defend himself or offer an explanation. Perhaps this was what inspired her to take up the sword herself- there was a part of her that had always wanted to knock him down a few pegs, coming across him on some fateful day and utterly humiliating him by challenging and handily beating him at his own game. As she would eventually learn, though, that day would never come.

A student of her father came to visit one day, bearing news of her father's death. Valerie was hesitant to talk with the man at first, seeing as she hadn't been particularly fond of her father and thus viewed those associated with him in a negative light, but the man proved to be much more pleasant company than she'd expected. The two bonded quickly and eventually fell for each other, with Valerie even finding her opinion of her father softening due to how fondly her now-lover spoke of him. For a while, she was happy to be spending time with what could have been her lifelong companion, even being content to ease up on her training now that her initial motivation behind it had died out.

It wouldn't last, though. A great white dragon attacked the village where she had lived, resulting in the deaths of many of her friends as well as the disappearance of her mother. Enraged and grief-stricken, Valerie set out to hunt the beast down, determined to prevent it from destroying any more lives. Her lover moved to stop her, believing that the dragon may have had a good reason for attacking, but Valerie was far too upset to hear him out and the two ended up parting ways. She now spends her days hunting down monsters of all shapes and sizes, honing her skills in preparation for the day that the white dragon eventually returns.

Name
Clover. At least, that's what she tries to communicate to people, but it doesn't always go as planned and often leads to unwanted nicknames (she's not called "Lucky", damn it!)

Age
Early twenties

Gender
Questionable, typically presumed female and doesn't seem to object to it...

Species
Human

Ethnicity
Ambiguous. Looks to be some sort of Adelan/Serenian mix.

Height
5'0"

Occupation
Adventuring and doing odd jobs. Basically whatever people will pay her to do.

Residence
Travelling!

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Clover is not a large individual by any means, but she's quite athletic, built mainly for agility and flexibility. Her ethnicity is difficult to pin down- she has darker skin indicative of Adelan heritage, but the odd silver colouring of her hair and eyes suggest some amount of fae blood. She generally prefers clothes that are unlikely to get in the way in the event that she needs to jump into action, but she admittedly has a fondness for scarves which add a bit of unnecessary flair to her movements. She can always be found wearing a pendant depicting a four-leaf clover (she'll gesture at it in order to tell people her name... or at least attempt to) and will get extremely upset if it's ever removed from her person.

Personality
Clover is quiet by necessity- she doesn't appear to speak at all, though whether this is due to choice or disability is unknown. At the very least, she is quite capable of understanding words being spoken to her. It would be a mistake to interpret her silence as her being shy or cold, as in reality she's easily excitable and greatly enjoys interacting with others despite the occasional roadblocks that arise when attempting to communicate with them. She's a highly expressive person, partly to aid in making her thoughts and feelings known to others and partly because... well, that's just who she is.

Clover is rarely satisfied with the conclusion that something "can't be done", and takes great pleasure in overcoming supposedly impossible challenges with a clever solution or simply through sheer force of will. She can be highly opinionated and is quick to jump into action whenever she feels as though she can solve a problem or make a positive change, which happens... often. She thrives when she's facing a challenge and gets pretty down on herself when she's unable to overcome one.

Those skilled with abilities such as divination, telepathy, or even particularly strong instincts may feel that there is something "off" about her, though it's difficult to place exactly what it is (besides the whole not-speaking thing). Animals don't tend to be too fond of her either, which has led to some dicey encounters with wild animals as well as her being hurriedly ushered away from certain areas in order to prevent all hell from breaking loose.

Abilities
Clover is a skilled swordswoman as well as an experienced dancer. She's at her best when combining elements of the two, incorporating fluid and flashy moves into her swordplay which definitely looks cool but is probably more trouble than it's worth at the end of the day. Don't tell her that, though- she'll probably start sulking. She uses a lightweight, intricate-looking blade in battle.

History
Explaining her own background to people would be a challenge, for what should be obvious reasons. Not that it would help much if she could, considering the fact that she can't seem to remember most of it herself. As far as she's aware, she's always been an adventurer.

Wanderers and Independents / Jora, Troublemaker
March 29, 2023, 12:56:28 PM
Name
Jora. Or at least, that's the name he tells people. Gods only know if that's his "real" name.

Age
Unknown

Gender
Male

Species
Demon(?)

Height
6'0"

Occupation
Shadow Ranger of the Vigilant Shadows (supposedly)

Residence
Clockwork City, although he probably spends significantly more time outside the city than he does inside.

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Jora has the ability to take on multiple different appearances- the one that most people encounter him in is mostly humanoid in form. There are two main characteristics that stand out on first glance, with one being his hair and the other being his horns. His hair is a fiery mane of red, gradually fading to a darker shade at the tips, while his horns are black and resemble those of a pronghorn. Aside from that, he's pretty tall, decently athletic, and highly expressive.

Jora's true form, and one that much fewer people would know about, is that of an odd, jackalope-esque creature. It greatly resembles a rabbit, albeit significantly larger, similar in size to a wolf or large dog. It has black fur, beady red eyes, and the same horns that he has in his humanoid form.

Personality
It might not be a surprise to learn that Jora holds some quite... interesting views on morality and society as a whole. Conventional views on what constitutes "good" or "evil" hold very little sway over him. Instead, it seems that what he values most is, well, chaos. It seems to him that many (if not all) attempts to force sentient beings to act in a strict and orderly fashion are nothing more than futile attempts to turn living beings into efficient and unfeeling machines. As far as he's concerned, it would be for the best if everyone was true to themselves, and if he needs to plant the seeds of conflict in order to push people to let loose and reveal their genuine feelings, then so be it. Whether or not he actually cares about the lives of the people he interacts with is anyone's guess, but if one thing's for sure, it's that he definitely finds them entertaining. If nothing else, he can at least help to weave some interesting stories.

It is worth noting, however, that Jora is far from an unthinking fool. He's well aware that being completely open about his beliefs and goals would make him plenty of enemies, and although he's quite powerful in his own right, he's not under the impression that he couldn't be beaten by a strong enough opponent (or group of opponents). As such, he's willing to lay low and influence people in more subtle ways and even play the hero at times in order to stay on someone's good side. He's in no rush to achieve everything he wants as soon as possible- in fact, he finds that gradual change can be just as fascinating as rapid change, if not more so. As long as he sees a way for a particular action to contribute to a more chaotic outcome somewhere down the road and he deems it to be sufficiently entertaining, he's typically willing to go along with it.

Abilities
Jora possesses many abilities typical of Shadow Rangers- short range teleportation, heightened senses and reflexes, and the ability to blend easily into shadows. Whereas many Shadow Rangers might use their abilities to summon more conventional weapons into their grasp, Jora typically opts to create small portals, pulling lengths of chain, whips, and even thorny vines from within to lash out at enemies before disappearing back inside just as quickly. He's also pretty skilled at creating and manipulating shadowy illusions. It's anyone's guess which of these abilities are due to Shadow Ranger training and which are unique to him.

History
How Jora arrived in the mortal realm is not something he's particularly forthcoming about- in fact, it's largely unknown that he "doesn't belong" here in the first place, although there are certainly those who have their suspicions about his origins. What is known is that at one point he managed to convince the Shadow Rangers to allow him into their ranks, and while many of them are rightfully wary of him, they're an odd enough group in their own right that he doesn't stick out too much. His exact motives for doing so are unclear, but he's happy enough to take on long missions that leave him out in the field for extended periods of time, secretly taking plenty of detours to accomplish his own goals on the side.

Gods, is it really necessary for us to learn all of this? When on earth am I going to use any of it? I bet not even the people who wrote this damn thing can remember any of it...

Katarina's thoughts ran wildly off track as she idly flipped through the pages of the hefty textbook placed in front of her. Magic theory had never been a strong point of hers- she picked up on things much quicker through hands-on experience than she did through reading, and even then, her methods of using magic relied much more heavily on raw intuition than knowledge. She'd spent her fair share of time scanning through books, for certain, but she couldn't get the information to really sink in for the life of her.

Several other Airelos University students went about their business scattered in different locations throughout the study area, many of them forming small groups and discussing the material amongst themselves. It might have done Katarina some good to join up with a group of her own, but for whatever reason, people always seemed to be too exhausted to stick around with her for very long and weren't too keen on approaching her while she was studying.

The cat-eared student made one final effort to understand what exactly she was looking at before suddenly letting out a frustrated sigh and burying her face in her hands, apparently oblivious or uncaring of any odd looks she may have earned by doing so. How was she supposed to make sense of any of this? She'd never even seen that damn symbol in her life! What she wouldn't give for a good distraction right about now...

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description

It doesn't take too much for one to guess at Katarina's strong fae-blooded origins. She's a small and compact girl sporting a head of bright pink hair accompanied by vibrant turquoise eyes. For whatever reason, she also has a pair of big and fluffy catlike ears (touch at your own risk!) as well as a matching tail, both features having fur colour matching that of her hair. As far as clothing is concerned, she has an affinity for black and other darker coloured clothes that contrast with and complement the lighter colours of her body. She can also typically be found wearing a few small bells, chimes, bracelets, and other assorted accessories that make subtle jingling noises as she moves about.

Personality

Katarina is a highly expressive and passionate person who isn't at all afraid to let her true feelings be known on any particular matter. Her emotions run deep and it's not at all difficult to discern how she might be feeling at any given moment. Fits of laughter, tears, and enraged ranting are not uncommon sights, and a lucky (or unlucky?) observer might get the chance to witness them all within the span of a day. If there's any emotion she doesn't seem to be particularly prone to, it would probably be fear- she is quick to step up to a challenge in defence of herself or someone she cares about. This makes her a fairly obvious target for someone looking to pick a fight, verbal or otherwise.

Relationships with Katarina tend to fluctuate quite a bit depending on recent encounters and what mood she happens to be in at the time. It is easy for her to get upset over a hurtful comment or action (intentional or otherwise) and she can hold feelings of resentment for a long time if she feels that the offence was severe enough. That said, she does place a lot of value on whatever relationships she's managed to build and is usually willing to talk it out and patch things up. As much as she might hate to admit fault in an argument at times, she'd much rather do so than ruin a friendship that she cares deeply about. At the end of the day, the feeling she hates most of all is loneliness.

Magic/Abilities

Katarina is exceptionally talented (although not particularly disciplined) at performing healing magic. She has a natural gift for it, although it has proven rather difficult to improve upon it through conventional learning. Instead, the strength of her healing abilities tends to fluctuate along with her emotions. A more intense emotional state results in her magic being amplified, although it doesn't seem to matter which emotion it is as long as she's feeling something. Katarina's magic has enough raw strength to mend serious wounds, but the process is typically direct, forceful, and unfortunately quite painful.

Other stuff!

- She is severely allergic to iron, to the point where simply being in the vicinity of it can be uncomfortable for her. Direct contact with it causes burns and wounds caused by it can result in her falling seriously ill.

- She's absolutely vicious in a fight and can be surprisingly difficult to keep down in spite of her small stature.

- She has a strong appreciation for music and other sounds she finds pleasing to the ear, finding them to be a calming presence among her frequent storms of emotion.

Fell / The Beginner's Guide to Undeath [CounterfeitFish]
February 25, 2022, 09:45:45 PM
(TW: Character Death. Not too graphic, but it happens.)

-----

It had only taken a moment.

The lone Haevar, Taltiu, found herself collapsed in a large patch of rocky landscape not too far from the Fell. Perhaps it shouldn't have been too surprising- after all, it was only natural that a location so close to the cursed ruins would be rife with danger. Actually, the reason she was there in the first place was to accomplish a task that she expected to be dangerous. Rumours of a large number of undead in the area had caught her interest a while back, and while she felt a great deal of sympathy for the creatures, it wasn't uncommon for them to lash out as she attempted to put them to rest.

What she wasn't expecting, however, was the volley of arrows fired at fire by a group of hidden assailants. By the time Taltiu realized what was happening, three arrows had already hit their mark, sinking deep into her back and dropping her to the ground in a sudden fit of pain and shock. In the distance, she could barely make out a round of shouts and hollers, celebrating their latest catch.

Bandits. They were going to kill her.

Despite her greatest efforts attempting pick herself off of the ground or crawl to safety, her body refused to comply. Whatever fight she still had in her quickly faded as she repeatedly landed hard back on the ground, and in just a few seconds it was taking all of her energy and focus just to remain conscious. As she finally lay still, Taltiu could do nothing but wait for the inevitable and reflect on what what would come next.

It was said that Haevar who died away from their home island would never find peace in the afterlife. Without proper guidance, their spirits remained confined to their lifeless bodies, doomed to wait until the body wasted away and released the vengeful spirit back into the world. While Taltiu had never witnessed such an occurrence firsthand, the sounds of heavy boots surrounding her and a blade being unsheathed made it clear that she would soon discover the truth for herself. Though her eyesight was far too blurry at this point to make out anything more than vague shapes and colours, she could hear well enough to make out some parting words.

"Sorry, girl. I'll make it quick for you."

There was a pause, then a final flash of pain, and then there was nothing.

-----

"Damn. How many of these things did she have on her?" One of the bandits muttered as he counted yet another knife hidden away by the Haevar, picking up the blade and toying with it in his hands. The group had removed the arrows from her body and laid her on her back, making it easier to rummage through her belongings.

"Quit screwing around. Just take whatever's valuable so we can get moving." The leader of the group spoke up, reprimanding his underling and receiving a mocking sneer in return. "What, you afraid of ghosts or something? You know those rumours are made up, yeah? Prolly just trying to keep someone from poking their nose where they shouldn't. Guess the knife bunny shoulda listened to 'em". The first bandit chuckled to himself, earning a swift smack to the side of the head from his leader.

"I'm serious. Get to work."

With that, the leader stepped away from the rest of the group to survey the surrounding land, leaving his subordinate grumbling to himself as he went back to going through pockets.

(OOC: Yeah, I know that this isn't actually taking place in the Fell. I just figured this was probably the most appropriate place to put it considering close it is.)

Name
Taltiu

Age

Gender
Female

Species
Haevar

Height
5'0"

Occupation
She is what Haevar would typically call a "Seer", but most people would refer to her a necromancer. She can communicate with the dead and specializes in bringing peace to violent or otherwise restless undead... often times by force.

Residence
Zantaric, for the foreseeable future.

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description

Taltiu's overall appearance can be difficult to pin down- she's sort of cute, a little bit eerie, but mostly just plain odd. She's certainly on the shorter side for a Haevar, and while her long ears could potentially contribute to her height, it's rare to see them fully extended unless she feels that she's being threatened. Her skin, hair, and furred ears all come pretty close to a light tan, but her skin leans toward a darker, honeyed shade while her hair and ears are a lighter, cream-like colour. It is fairly common among Haevar to wear earrings made of bone, and Taltiu is no exception, taking it even further than most by commonly wearing necklaces and bracelets made of the same material.

Taltiu likes to keep her nails sharp, but while they would probably hurt if she attacked someone with them, they're not nearly deadly enough to make reliable weapons. No, she leaves that part to her assorted collection of knives- she's acquired quite a lot of them through various means, and it's not at all uncommon for her to have one (or more) of them on her person at any given time. Her knives serve a variety of different purposes- many of them are used as tools, others are for ritualistic purposes, a few are specifically for self-defence, and some don't appear to have a specific purpose at all- but a lot of them incorporate some sort of intricate design, and all of them are kept very, very sharp. She doesn't typically bother to conceal whichever one(s) she happens to be carrying, finding them a useful deterrent to those who might otherwise have tried to take advantage of her.

Besides her knives, Taltiu usually carries a few other items with her as well. Charms, trinkets, vials filled with various substances, and the like. It's worth noting that some of them give off pleasant aromas, but it isn't immediately obvious what they're actually used for. To many people, it would seem that the only purpose of her collection is simply to look pretty.

Personality

Taltiu is someone who seems to constantly have some sort of guard up. She is slow to trust and open up to others, and there a few reasons why this is the case. For one, Zantaric isn't one of the safer places to live- trusting too easily or showing weakness is bound to get you into some sort of trouble. It's best to keep a safe distance until you know exactly what you're getting into. Even if she figures that a particular person has no ill intentions, though, she'll still try not to get too close to them. There's always the slight chance of someone growing a little too fond of her, which is something that Taltiu knows she wouldn't be able to reciprocate in quite the same way.

Taltiu often deals with self-conflict, struggling with herself over what is "right" and what the best course of action would be. It can be difficult for her to come to a final decision on some things, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she'll be easy to sway- in fact, once she does make her mind up about something, getting her to change it again can be difficult at best and near impossible at worst. She can actually be pretty brave and determined when it comes to something she really believes in, occasionally ignoring warnings from others for doing something they view as foolish.

Magic/Abilities

Like many Haevar, Taltiu was born with the magical ability to communicate with, interact with, and even raise the dead. While she isn't quite as adverse to the idea of reanimating the dead as others of her kind might be, she doesn't often find herself in situations where doing so would be too useful, so that aspect of her abilities has so far gone unused.

While she hasn't exactly been trained in combat, she does know how to use her knives to hunt, and she isn't afraid to use them against potential threats if it came to that.

Relationships

Not many. She doesn't have a Saengi and most of her family still lives on the island.

History

Taltiu's life was rather peaceful and typical of a Haevar during the years leading up to her Coming of Age. She was a bit of a dreamer, excited and anxious to find out who her Saengi might be- the one who would care for her for the rest of her life, and who she would care for in turn. She wanted nothing more than that- at least, that's what she thought at that point in her life- so it understandably hurt when a couple years passed and she still hadn't found the one she was supposed to be looking for.

Not one to be so easily discouraged, though, Taltiu continued to search for her Saengi with the remaining time she had left to find them. There were even a few times when she thought she'd found "the one", but there was always a reason why it wouldn't quite work out. As each potential mate passed, she began to get the feeling that she would never really feel quite the same towards others as they felt towards her, and at the time, that was a terrifying thought.

A couple more years passed, and Taltiu's search grew more desperate. Not having many other options left, she turned to the ancestors for help, seeking their knowledge on the subject. Who was her Saengi? Why was it taking so long for her to find them, despite her best efforts? Why was it so difficult for her to feel something that seemed to come naturally to everyone else she knew? No matter how often she asked, though, the ancestors never seemed to have a clear answer for this particular subject. Eventually, the period of time during which she was supposed to find her mate passed her by.

It took her a while to come to terms with the fact that she hadn't found a Saengi and almost certainly never would, but having her friends and family around did help. They made it known that she was still accepted, mated or not, and that she was still an important member of the community despite her apparent differences. She slowly grew to accept herself for the way she was in time, but she could never shake the feeling that she was still different than the others. So, after a few more years of learning and growing as a person, Taltiu set off on a journey to the mainland. It was never made clear when she would return... if she decided to return at all.

Human

Ethnicity
Connlaothian

Height
5'5"

Occupation
Sentinel of the Red Legion.
Former Knight of the White Lily.

Residence
Wherever the Red Legion needs her to be.

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Considering the amount of fighting Maddison has experienced as a result of the nature of her job, her body shows surprisingly little evidence of this. She seems to be remarkably devoid of scars or bruises- if she even has any, they would be hidden underneath whatever clothes or armour she was wearing at the moment. Very few people, if any, know what she looks like underneath, and she doesn't exactly have plans to be changing that any time soon.

Her movements in the midst of battle are swift and graceful, seemingly unhindered by the burden of her armour. Perhaps her ability to effortlessly control the flow of her attacks and counters is what has allowed her to remain relatively unscathed.

While her training and experience as both a Knight of the White Lily and a Sentinel has left Maddison rather well built, the rest of her attributes are rather typical for a Connlaothian. She has long red hair (perhaps a little longer than it should be, considering what her job is) and curious green eyes.

Personality
Maddison suffers from a lot of inner conflict, much of it involving the issues responsible for the civil war that plagues her country. Being raised a Connlaothian and later as a Knight of the White Lily, she has a few reservations about the usage of magic. While she does believe that it is capable of causing wide-scale destruction, she also thinks that it could be used for good. Either way, she doesn't blame mages for being capable of using magic, but she is cautious of what they might be capable of- even if she doesn't have much reason to, considering that her abilities make her immune to most of it. This can make her rather tense around the mages that she sometimes works alongside.

Although she was raised to be very much religious due to her Adharaism, her inner turmoils have certainly shaken her faith over the years. She'll always be cautious around magic, but she could never bring herself to harm a magic user who wasn't hurting anyone- her opinion is that the needs of the people should come before her own reservations and the teachings of her faith. It doesn't help much that, despite her faltering faith, her Adharaism has remained seemingly unchanged. Surely if Ansgar was displeased with her stance on magic, he could simply strip her of that ability, right? At the very least, she doesn't believe in Ansgar in quite the same way that many other Connlaothians might.

She may no longer be a White Lily, but the values instilled in her have led her to remain celibate. The thought of getting too attached to someone is a frightening one for her- it's far too easy for someone to fall in battle, and even if she did end up falling for someone, she'd hardly know how to express those feelings properly. That being said, she can't help but feel at least a bit curious of what that might be like, and part of her longs to feel that kind of connection with someone.

Despite her inner conflicts, Maddison tries not to let her past influence her actions and attitudes in the present. She does what she can to inspire people with the image of a reliable leader- any misgivings or vulnerabilities are shoved deep down where hopefully none of her onlookers will find them. After all, she can't very well hope to lead people who have no faith in her to begin with.

Magic/Abilities
Maddison possesses the rare form of Mordecaism known as Adharaism, which surrounds her with a field that negates any magic or psionic abilities within it. Her particular field is on the smaller side, just enough to cover herself and perhaps a couple others if they were standing very close by. She also has extensive training in the use of polearms, as well as an understanding of military tactics. It is not uncommon to find her fighting alongside those she commands, being very capable at cutting through opponents with her glaive.

Relationships
Members of the Red Legion, mostly. Her relationship with her parents has become more strained over the years, and contact with them has recently slowed to a halt.

History
Maddison's ability to negate magic was discovered at a very early age, and the Church subsequently took great interest in her. They started training her how to fight as soon as she was strong enough to hold a weapon, while also educating her in several other areas. She showed plenty of potential both in combat and in tactics, so it was no surprise when she was eventually recruited into the Knights of the White Lily. However, over a few years of service, her superiors began to suspect that she might not be entirely loyal to the cause. In a test of loyalty, she was ordered to perform an execution on a mage who had been found guilty of using their magic. When she refused to do so, she was punished for her insubordination, and went missing a few days later- she'd run away without a word, taking almost nothing with her aside from her weapon.

Being now homeless and unemployed, Maddison immediately began searching for some sort of income, which she got in the form of mercenary work. It was during this time that she came across another mercenary by the name of Roland Harker, and along with several others, they created the company that would eventually become the Red Legion. She still works with them, now serving as one of four Sentinels within the legion.

Ethnicity
Uhhh. Purple? Kinda?

Height

Occupation
Wandering. Former leader-in-training.

Residence

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Lavender is abnormally short and, well, small for her species, which is one of a few mutations which make her stand out from the rest. The other noticeable one would be her scales which, although primarily coloured a light purple, have several patches of white scales scattered about. There doesn't appear to be any pattern behind the placement of these patches, nor any particular area where they are the most concentrated. This anomaly shows up in other areas, too; her "gem" contains a faint swirl of white, and her hair, which otherwise matches the colour of her scales, also has a few streaks of white. Other than that, she's pretty much the same as the others, just... smaller. The scales are at least all in the right places, and her claws and tail are pretty normal as well. Her eyes are rather plain and have an orange colouration to them. Despite the fact that she has little reason to do so anymore, she tries to keep her hair all done up and pretty.

She has one other mutation, although it's a lot less obvious to onlookers- Lavender is actually completely colourblind. She has no way of telling different colours apart, save for differences in shading.

Personality
Lavender is... well, a bit odd. She was spoiled somewhat by the other members of her tribe- her purple and white colours made her particularly adored and desirable- but she's not necessarily a brat, either. As a result of how she was raised, she believes herself to be sort of "special" in comparison to others, and typically expects to get whatever she asks for. She wouldn't throw a fit if she didn't get it, though- that would be selfish, and being selfish was frowned upon.

...although she would probably be pretty disappointed.

She does, however, enjoy the company of others- partly because she's used to being showered with compliments. Back in her tribe, getting overly attached to others was a problem, but... well, it's not a problem anymore. So, now she's all clingy. :L

She also miiiight be a bit crazy. Just a little.

Magic/Abilities
Lavender has the ability to conjure and control fire, which is something she believes to be a gift from the First Flame itself. Her abilities aren't all that impressive- she can't create fires any larger than her own fist- but they mean the world to her.

Like many Kulshedra, she also has a very good sense of smell.

Relationships
Do former tribe members count? :[

History
From the moment of her birth, Lavender was seemingly destined for greatness among her tribe. Her purple scales were a rarity among her species, and therefore she would be appointed a more specialized job. Then there were her white scales- even rarer then the purple ones, they indicated her future position as a leader of sorts. As such, she received plenty attention as she grew, quickly becoming the pride of her tribe. She became convinced that she was somehow "special", that the colour of her scales signified that she was indispensable.

These feelings only grew when she first discovered that she could conjure flames. Her tribe saw this ability as a blessing from the First Flame, and began to praise her even more than they had before. However, they did make one thing clear- while Lavender's magic may have been bestowed by the First Fire, it wasn't part of it. Therefore, it was strictly forbidden for her to use it to light the Flame under any circumstances. While she wasn't too pleased to be essentially barred from using her abilities to their fullest, she decided to obey- after all, the punishment for such a grave sin would almost certainly be exile.

Well, at least she obeyed for a while.

Several years passed rather uneventfully- Lavender eventually got to the age where she was expected to start trying to have children, which she did quite happily (although, for some reason none of the tribe members were sure of, she didn't appear to have any preference for colour in her mates), but that was about it.

Then the Fire went out.

Nobody was really sure who was responsible, and were too busy panicking to worry about that. They didn't have enough of worth to trade for some of another tribe's Fire, and without any form of warmth, they would soon freeze to death. Lavender knew this, and though she knew what the consequences would be if she got caught, she figured it was better to provide a fire and face exile than do nothing and watch her friends and family die off. So, when she was absolutely sure nobody was looking, she snuck up to the barren bonfire pit and used her magic to light it.

It didn't take long for everyone to figure out who lit it again; they didn't have any other way of making fire, after all. Sure enough, when they confronted Lavender about it, she quickly admitted to her crime and accepted whatever punishment they deemed fitting. She was exiled shortly afterwards in accordance to the tribe's traditions, but nobody was too pleased about it.

She has no idea if the Fire is still burning, or what she's going to do now that she's in exile.

Occupation
Guard
Residence
Dreamhaven

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Cyrillis is, for the most part, nothing too special to look at. Pixies have a rather odd aging process, and thus his age is somewhat tricky to discern, but he looks to be about middle-aged. He has short, auburn hair that he is in a constant struggle to keep tidy due to the nature of his job. His eyes are coloured a deep brown and his skin, though naturally pale, is lightly tanned due to constant exposure to sunlight. As might be expected of a guard, he is well built as a result of constant training, but not so much that he could take a hit from something much larger than him. One of his most identifiable features would be his teeth- his canines are noticeably sharper and more pointed than usual, giving them an almost animalistic quality. The other noticeable feature would be his wings, which resemble and function like those of a hummingbird. The backsides of his wings are coloured with vibrant shades of blue, while the undersides are a more plain light brown.

Cyrillis can usually be seen wearing a set of light armour- heavy armour would be too much for him to fly very well with- and a short sword held in a sheath near his waist. He doesn't typically wear a helmet, as they tend to obscure his vision... and they mess up his hair.

Personality
Cyrillis is somewhat of a perfectionist, always trying to keep himself well versed in all areas of life. He is hard-working, and constantly pushes himself to improve- perhaps more than he should. He has a tendency to be hard on himself, especially after making a mistake, and will go to great lengths to rectify said errors. The last thing he would want would be to let someone who trusted him down because of his own weakness or incompetence.

Perfectionism aside, he's fairly pleasant to be around when it comes down to it. He encourages others to be the best they can be but also tries to keep them out of trouble, which can make him seem overly protective at times. He keeps a confidant aura about him whenever he can, although this can quickly be shattered the moment he makes a mistake, or at least what he perceives to be a mistake.

Magic/Abilities
Cyrillis' wings are capable of beating at an incredible rate, which allows him to be very versatile when it comes to aerial maneuvers. He can dart through the air at great speeds, change directions in mere moments, and even hover in place if he really wanted to. Since it requires a lot of energy to keep his wings moving at such a rate, though, long flights can be a bit of a problem for him. While this is less of an ability and more of a strange phenomenon, his wings produce a pleasant- musical, even- humming sound while in motion.

His magical abilities are focused in nature magic and, to a certain extent, glamour. He, like quite a few other members of his species, possesses the ability to temporarily change his size to something more human-ish. He's not great at it, though, and can only hold it for a few minutes at most. This is one aspect of himself that he strives to improve.

Lanai

Gender
Female

Species
Siren? Harpy? Something like that.

Ethnicity
Unknown. Possibly non-applicable. Could probably pass as Yoreiqi if she looked more human.

Height
6'2"

Occupation
"Hero". AKA suddenly inserting herself into people's lives, hopefully helping them out in some way, then disappearing just as suddenly.

Residence
Wherever there's people in need!

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Lanai could generally be described as... somewhat humanoid. She is tall and considerably well-built, certainly enough to pick up and carry most people out of danger or fend off an attacker in a fight. Dark skin, black hair, and a set of swirling tattoos snaking up from her right hand to her neck suggest potential Yoreiqi heritage, although it's easy to overlook these features in favour of some of her more... unique ones. She has large, animalistic ears that are covered in black feathers, giving them a fluffy, almost catlike appearance. Her nails are sharpened to the point where they could almost be considered claws, and her feet closely resemble those of a bird's- they are dark, scaly, and digitigrade, with toes ending in sharp claws (or, perhaps more appropriately, talons). Given the general lack of suitable footwear, she basically never wears any.

By far her most striking and unusual feature, however, would be the absolutely absurd four pairs of feathered wings emerging from her back. The feathers are coloured various shades of yellow, orange, and blue, reminiscent of sunlight reflecting over a body of water. Her wings are far more than what would be necessary for her to achieve flight, and can often be more trouble than they're worth. It's common for them to get tangled and messy over the course of a day, although they always seem to somehow be in miraculously pristine condition whenever she shows up somewhere new. Interestingly enough, the amount of wings she has at a given time seems to be somewhat mutable- she initially only had one pair. Then, after intervening to rescue a particularly imaginative child, she started showing up with two pairs. A while later, it was three, then four...

Personality
To put it simply, Lanai is the kind of person who thrives when she's the object of people's attention. She has few reservations about making her presence known in any particular situation, and it can be difficult to get rid of her once she's decided that someone- or something- is worth her time. She has a high opinion of herself in many ways, and she's willing to go to great lengths to get others to think similarly highly of her. To that end, she'll adjust her behaviour slightly over time as she gets to know someone, shifting in whatever way she believes they would respond well to. There do appear to lines she's not willing to cross in this respect- she has little interest in acting outright evil or mean-spirited even if it would appeal to someone in particular, although it's debatable if this is due to her own moral code or if it's out of a desire to maintain a generally positive image. She doesn't seem to be particularly receptive to insults or otherwise negative comments, instead seeing many of them as an opportunity to disprove "mistaken" opinions about her.

Abilities
Lanai has no need to eat, drink, or sleep in order to survive, although she may choose to partake in those things if the situation calls for it. Instead, she receives energy by interacting with others, holding their attention and eliciting generally positive emotions from them. Helping to turn someone's negative emotions into positive ones is highly energizing for her, hence her particular fondness for swooping in to rescue people from dire situations. She seems to have the uncanny ability to appear exactly when people need her the most (well, in her opinion, at least).

...she can also fly, is decent with a spear, and has a really pretty voice.

History
Honestly, there's not too much to say. Nobody seems to have a clear idea about who she is or what she is, let alone where she came from. She doesn't have any sort of traceable family or history, or at least none that are known to members of the general public. To those who have experience dealing with her, the truth seems to be that she just sort of... showed up one day and started doing her thing. Even then, accounts of her appearance vary considerably enough that some chalk her existence up to the product of exaggerated rumours and overactive imaginations...

Arca / Busy Streets (CyclicalCycal)
December 03, 2016, 04:08:47 PM
Arca wasn't exactly the kind of place that Juliana liked to visit frequently. Sure, it was certainly pleasing to the eye (for the most part, at least), and there was a new or interesting artifact being presented almost everywhere you looked. If you wanted to learn about magic, there were few other places in all of Le'ranna that could better suit that need. Considering that gaining knowledge was one of the woman's primary goals, it was a little surprising that she didn't enjoy being in Arca. Well, while the capital of Serendipity had its positives, it also had a certain quality that made it equally as off-putting as it was intriguing.

There was just so many people.

Yes, being the capital of an entire nation came with the unfortunate side effect of being incredibly busy. Crowds of people constantly scurried about the streets, chatting amongst themselves and checking out whatever exciting new discoveries the city had to offer. It was ridiculously easy to get lost in the massive crowds if you weren't familiar with the surroundings. Fortunately for Juliana, she'd been to the place enough times that getting lost wasn't an issue. No, what bothered her was the constant noise emanating from the crowds. She'd always been sensitive to noise, so getting barraged by it was enough to make her irritable, to say the least.

Yet, here she was, despite the fact that she could barely stand the place. While lots of people meant lots of noise, it also meant lots of idiots getting themselves hurt. Considering that she got paid to heal people, Arca was a pretty good place for Juliana to find work despite its flaws. Right now, though, she wasn't in the mood to be healing anyone. She was giving herself a break; while her magic was rather powerful, it was also very draining when used excessively. As such, she wandered the streets in a similar fashion to the rest of the people. Instead of her robe, she wore rather plain clothes so she wouldn't be bothered by someone looking for a healer. This also meant that she was temporarily without a weapon, but it wouldn't be necessary in a place like this. All things considered, she blended in pretty well with the other people, the only oddities being her seemingly permanent frown and her tendency to stick close to the walls of the buildings.

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Galvan is rather young (for a dragon, at least), meaning that he's not all that big. He's large enough for most people to ride comfortably, but he's not gigantic by any means. Rather than scales, Galvan's skin is covered in white feathers with his wings resembling those of a bird's. His underbelly is leathery and light grey, and his whole body is remarkably clean despite its light colouration. He has dark, curvy horns that spiral around and needle-like claws. The only hint of colour on his body are his eyes, which are a light blue.

Personality
In general, Galvan is exceedingly hard to read. He's very good at keeping his emotions in check (aside from anger, on occasion), refusing to let them impact his decisions. When he does end up expressing an emotion, chances are that he's just faking it. He also tends to lie a lot, becoming quite experienced over the years. Rules and moral codes mean little to him, and he's unlikely to feel any kind of remorse after breaking them... in other words, he's a sociopath.

Galvan seems to have a particular talent for getting under people's skin. From a few minutes of interacting with someone, he'll usually be able to find out what kind of things upset them. He's more than willing to use that knowledge, and he gets a sense of enjoyment from messing with people. Of course, most people would find this behaviour incredibly irritating, but Galvan doesn't mind much. He'd even do the same kind of things to people that he considers to be his allies, though it's more like playful teasing at that point.

Though plenty of what he says is questionable at best, Galvan's dedication to his research is clear. He would go to incredible lengths in order to learn something new, including manipulating others and partaking in some rather... shady practices. Whenever someone criticizes the extreme measures he's capable of taking, he just interprets that as someone being too cowardly to achieve their goals. Sometimes, you have to do something "bad" in order to achieve something great.

Magic/Abilities
Galvan's magic abilities are limited to a few areas, but they can be very potent in the right situations. He can enchant his words a small amount of magic, influencing the thoughts of whoever hears them. This helps to make what he says more believable, as long as he doesn't say anything too absurd. Galvan finds that this magic works better of the target is irritated, or otherwise unable to think clearly. Of course, this kind of manipulation isn't going to work on everybody.

His most unique magical ability, and the one most relevant to his research, is his ability to enchant objects. These enchantments seem to work better on certain materials- for example, metal works very well, while something like wood is harder to work with. This enchantment causes the object to act as a focus, amplifying or altering the effects of magic directed through it. Whenever the object is in direct contact with someone's body, Galvan can force that person's magic towards the focus against their will (though this requires a large amount of concentration to do).

Galvan has a couple other magical abilities, too. His eyes can produce a hypnotic gaze against anyone who stares into them, which is very effective in combination with his manipulative tactics. He also has mild telekinetic abilities, being to pick up and move small objects without touching them. More impressive, however, are the physical capabilities of the dragon's body. He has the ability to breathe fire, of course, and his claws can secrete a fluid that renders people unconscious when it enters the bloodstream. For bigger creatures, a higher amount of the fluid would have to be used in order to be effective. Smaller amounts, however, produce feelings of dizziness, nausea and weakness.

Relationships
None right now. Relationships with Galvan tend to end rather quickly.

History
Like with most dragons, the first few years of Galvan's life were a constant struggle for survival. Along with other hatchlings, he was quickly expected to learn how to fend for himself and adapt to the dragon society, or be left behind to die. Galvan managed to survive these difficult times without too many issues, but at one point he realized that with a few well-placed words (and some magic that he wasn't yet aware of), he could convince others to do work for him. However, since Galvan was inexperienced with using said magic, it became obvious to most people what he was up to and he was given a stern warning. In defiance, he continued to practice this technique and slowly began to understand how the magic functioned. Each time, he was confronted about his actions, but he would always find some way to avoid being punished. Over the years, he lost respect for the rules of society, eventually getting to the point where he completely disregarded them.

After he realized that his ability to influence people was somewhat rooted in magic, Galvan started pushing himself to see what else he was capable of. It was during this period that he developed his telekinetic abilities, being able to use them with great precision. They weren't exactly powerful in the grant scheme of things, however, so Galvan directed his attention elsewhere. He started to research the magical talents of other people, wandering and making notes until he eventually came across the Fell. The legends of the magic capable of levelling an entire nation fascinated him, and made him wonder how one could create such a destructive force. He wasn't really planning on using it, though- he was more driven by sheer curiosity alone.

More recently, Galvan finally realized the last of his magic abilities. He was rifling through the possessions of a human he'd recently killed in order to feed himself when he came into contact with a metal trinket. A small surge of power started coursing through his body, and he realized that he could lift heavier objects than usual with his telekinesis as long as he stayed in contact with the metal. After a few experiments, Galvan determined that he could replicate this effect with many different objects, and that they would still enhance his magic from a distance as long as he made contact with them at some point.

One night, a thief snuck into the cave that Galvan used as his home while he was away. The thief picked up one of the dragon's newly created artifacts, examining it thoroughly before attempting to leave. Unfortunately, he lingered a little too long and soon found himself face to face with Galvan. Another surge of power washed over the dragon, and he quickly discovered another property of his enchantments. The thief, who happened to be a pyromancer, suddenly felt his magic backfire and was promptly consumed by his own flames. Greatly intrigued by this, Galvan started to form a new question in his mind: what else could he could he achieve with this kind of manipulation?

Physical Description
Harvey is, for the most part, what you'd expect from a man of Connlaothian descent. He is about average in terms of height, and has a light skin tone. His build is a little above average, due to his constant travelling and training. He has blue eyes and light blond hair. His hair is short, and he usually doesn't bother styling it as it tends to get messed up over the course of the day. Despite moving to La'marri, Harvey is most comfortable with Connlaothian fashion. He can almost always be seen wearing a leather jacket, to the point where he considers it a "signature" of his. He also carries a sword with him, which is particularly lightweight and built for speed and precision rather than raw power.

- - -
Soma is incredibly small in comparison to most other dragons, being small enough to comfortably perch on a human's shoulder. His body seems pretty standard, being quadruped and winged much like many other dragons. His skin is leathery and almost entirely white in colour, except for the underside of his wings and belly which are a dark blue. He also has dark blue eyes of a similar shade. When he's not in action, Soma can usually be seen resting atop one of Harvey's shoulders, his tail draped over the other.

Personality
Whenever he's not investigating, Harvey appears very calm and collected. He's pretty agreeable, keeps a sense of humour about him, and doesn't take very many things seriously. Sometimes he's prone to bouts of sarcasm, but is unlikely to get seriously angry. When he's on the case, though, his personality becomes more eccentric and unpredictable. He'll be a lot more excitable and reckless at points, then immediately turn dead serious at others.
- - -
Soma is generally the more reserved of the duo, preferring to let Harvey do most of the talking rather than speaking up himself. He's not really shy, though; most of the time, he's just trying to see if he can pick up anything odd about people or the surroundings. He responds well to compliments, but also responds equally poorly to insults and criticism. Soma is capable of extreme bursts of emotion, usually negative instead of positive. He ends up getting into a lot of arguments, at which point he becomes anything but quiet.
- - -
Both Harvey and Soma are very passionate when it comes to their investigations. They are extremely protective of one another, both willing to sacrifice themselves in order to save the other.

Magic/Abilities
Due to the sometimes dangerous nature of his work, Harvey has trained himself extensively in martial arts. He is proficient in unarmed combat and using improvised weapons, being able to hit hard while taking as little damage as possible. He's also a skilled fencer, being capable of duelling with plenty of agility and grace. He carries a concealed pistol, but it can only fire one shot before having to be reloaded. Because of this (and the fact that the sound of the gun hurts Soma's ears), he doesn't use it very often.
- - -
Soma is unusually sensitive to all kinds of stimuli, giving him heightened senses. He can detect things that most creatures wouldn't be able to notice even if they tried. To some extent, he can even sense the usage of magic in an area, making it a sort of "sixth sense" of his. These heightened senses are especially useful for picking up on small clues during investigations, but they can also be a hindrance. They make him especially susceptible to getting disoriented, and make strong stimuli very unpleasant (bright lights, loud noises, intense pain, etc.). When it comes to combat, Soma is even faster and harder to hit then Harvey, but is also a lot less durable.
- - -
In combat, Harvey and Soma work together to take down enemies. Usually, Soma will attempt to disrupt an enemies attacks, while Harvey is the hard hitter of the team.

Relationships

Even as a child, Harvey was always fascinated by puzzles and mysteries, particularly those that were seemingly impossible to solve. He'd spend hours, days, and even weeks on them, refusing to move on from them until he'd figured out the answer. It was this fascination that drove him to become an investigator, a decision that was wholly supported by his parents. He eventually did achieve this goal, and almost immediately started working. Unsurprisingly, most of the cases he came across involved hunting down a magic-user, as using magic is one of the most serious (and common) crimes in Connlaoth. Eventually, he grew tired of doing the same kind of cases over and over again, so he decided to search elsewhere for more interesting mysteries.

Recently, his travels have brought him to the village of La'marri, which he now uses as a sort of "base of operations". There, he was investigating a case that was proving especially difficult. He didn't have any leads or clues of any kind, and very well might have had to give up if he hadn't met Soma. The dragon was also intrigued by the case, so the two decided to work together in order to solve it. Using Soma's powerful senses, the duo managed to overcome the odds and finish the case. Seeing how much they'd each enjoyed solving it, Harvey decided to take on Soma as his partner. Now, they're operating as a team, hoping to get out there and make a name for themselves.

Sionad Tundra and Valleys / Hell Frozen Over (ValamLym)
September 24, 2016, 03:49:01 PM
When people visit the Sionad Tundra, they typically have a really good reason for doing so- it simply wasn't worth the trouble otherwise. The whole place was, more often then not, entirely covered in snow. Combined with freezing temperatures, the deep layers of snow made the tundra traversable only to those who were prepared to deal with harsh conditions. There were places of interest, sure, but they were near impossible to come across unless by a freak accident or by someone who knew of their location beforehand. Besides that, there wasn't much to see- aside from the trees and shrubs, any signs of life were typically buried under the constant snow before anyone else came across them.

Despite all this, though, people still ended up wandering the landscape for one reason or another. Some were treasure seekers, searching for valuable artifacts or materials that other people refused to brave the cold to retrieve. Others were wanted criminals, counting on the fact that their tracks would be covered up and that their pursuers would rather give up than wander blindly into unknown territory. Still others travelled in search of an adventure, treating the harsh conditions as a challenge rather than a hinderance.

Axia, however, did not fit into any of the aforementioned groups. She didn't have a great reason to be out here, but she wasn't bothered much by the cold either. There was something that she was supposed to be doing, which she had little to no desire to do at the moment. Instead, she'd turned her attention to something she actually enjoyed: flying! Over the course of a few hours, Axia had done nothing but practice her takeoffs and landings, using the wide open landscape to her advantage. Unfortunately, she hadn't made too much progress, but she was determined to get it right this time.

Circling around in the sky, Axia took a moment to choose a spot to aim for before beginning her landing.  Finally making her choice, she suddenly folded her wings up and allowed herself to plummet towards the ground. With the hard surface quickly approaching, Axia once again flapped her wings and shot forwards with plenty of speed. In fact, it was too much speed, and as a result her landing was... less than smooth. She stumbled over as her legs made contact with the ground, causing her tail to smack into a nearby tree.

Such a landing was obviously undesirable, but nothing that Axia wasn't used to. Laying in the snow for a moment to catch her breath, she then sat up and brought her tail close to survey the damage. A few of her aberrant scales had been shattered, leaving a cut that slowly dripped blood onto the snow below. It wasn't a serious wound, but it was definitely a sign that Axia should take a break from practicing. Frowning, she shook the snow off of her body and started to climb the nearest hill she could find. If she couldn't practice flying, then maybe she could at least come across something interesting by using the top of the hill as a vantage point.

Hell if she knows. She's not the type to stay tied down to any particular place.

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Axia might not be what immediately comes to mind when one imagines a "dragon". She possesses two particular traits that would make her easy to tell apart from many other dragons. For one thing, she is noticeably smaller than what would generally be expected from a dragon of her age. Secondly, her scales have a strange quality about them- They take on a pearlescent shine when exposed to light, complementing their usual silvery colour. Other than that, though, her body is similar to many other dragons, standing on four legs and having wings sprout from her back. Her eyes have an unusually bright blue colouration, lighting up even more when she's excited or surprised.

Axia also has a humanoid form, though it had a few qualities that are... distinctly not human. She looks to be roughly the equivalent of a young adult, or perhaps someone in their late teens, and her build is not particularly remarkable. Long, platinum blonde hair flows down her shoulders, and her eyes carry the same light blue colouration that they have in her draconic form. As for the not-so-human qualities, they consist of features from her dragon form- Namely, her wings and scales. These features persist in her human form for whatever reason, although reduced in size to fit her new form. The wings emerge from around her back, and the scales are scattered around several parts of her body. They can be seen most prominently along her back, as well as the backs of her arms and legs.

Personality
Axia's most defining characteristic would almost certainly have to be her insatiable curiosity- she wants to know EVERYTHING. She knows that there will always be something more out there for her to learn, and she's more than willing to put in the effort to do so. Because of this, she has a tendency to push boundaries and occasionally poke around at things she probably shouldn't, but she's also likely to lend a hand to someone in need if she thinks she'll be able to learn something new from the experience. She's very familiar with the world changing around her and is quick to adapt to it (although this doesn't mean she can't be caught off guard- she can be quite the daydreamer and often gets lost in her own thoughts).

She also places a lot of value on her personal freedom, and attempts to assert control over her typically don't go over too well. "Because I said so" or similar arguments drive her crazy- if you're going to tell her that she needs to do (or not do) a certain thing, then there had better be a damn good reason for it. Being forced to stick around in a particular area or situation makes her anxious, and it's difficult for her to stick to routines.

Axia's mood can fluctuate pretty wildly as the world and circumstances around her change- it's a natural consequence of the way she adapts so readily to what's happening around her. In general, though, she tries to maintain an upbeat and optimistic attitude. After all, you can hardly learn much if you're too focused on moping around all day!

Magic/Abilities
Axia possesses some fairly powerful light magic. Not to be confused with holy magic, her abilities are more focused around utilizing radiant energy and bending the light around her. She can use her magic do things like throw bright pulses of energy, blind others with a brief flash of light, or manipulate light to create harmless illusions. However, she does have a limited pool of energy- in order to "recharge" her magic, she needs to be exposed to light and replenish her reserves over time.

Other fun stuff!
- While she can technically dismiss her wings temporarily in human form, it makes her uncomfortable to be without them for too long- the way she sees it, they're always part of her.
- She doesn't really maintain a "hoard". She's too temperamental to get attached to anything long enough to want to hoard it, and even if she did, she travels too much to properly manage one.
- Most certainly is not afraid of the dark, how dare you suggest such a thing.
- Probably falls asleep in sunbeams.

Relationships
Nothing too serious. It's rare for her to stick around for long enough to make strong connections.

History
Axia's thirst for knowledge started making an impact on her life at a very early age- she would make use of each and every opportunity she got to explore the areas around her home, including the particularly dangerous ones (much to the annoyance of whoever was tasked with taking care of her at the time). Her constant questions and boundary-pushing quickly wore down the patience and energy of the dragons who raised her, so there was little resistance from them when, at an age where she could effectively care for herself, she decided to strike out on her own. It was clearly pointless to try and keep someone like her tied down for too long.

She's come across many interesting things since leaving her home, but meeting humans for the first time would be the most impactful. An entire species filled with a level of curiosity that rivalled her own was endlessly fascinating to her, and she quickly found herself interacting more with them than those of her own species (although it was difficult at times- humans could be so skittish!) which eventually inspired her to develop a human-ish form for herself in order to more easily interact with them and her other surroundings. It's by this form that most people know her by at this point, and quite a few of them have a story or two to tell about her... for better or for worse.

QUICK STATS

Name
Juliana Gwynn
Age
20
Gender
Female
Species
Human
Ethnicity
Serenian
Height
5'2"
Orientation
Heterosexual
Occupation
Healer
Residence
Tirial, though she spends a lot of time away from home.

IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Juliana has fair, pale skin, typical of Serenians. She is rather short, and has a fragile build. Her long, light pink hair is a product of her Serenian descent, as are her light purple eyes. Her clothes are plain, consisting of whites, blacks, browns, and occasionally a splash of dull colour. When she's on the job, she can sometimes be seen wearing a white robe that covers the majority of her body. The robe has a hood, but she doesn't pull it over her head often. She wears a necklace that has a small bell attached to it, making a faint sound that is pleasing to hear. Finally, her right forearm bears a scar that is visible to others most of the time, except when she wears her robe.

Personality
Despite having the ability to heal, Juliana typically won't go too far out of her way to help others unless there's something in it for her. She has little patience when she isn't getting her way, and she isn't afraid to throw around insults which can often get her in trouble. The subject of magic is very intriguing to her, and offering her a chance to improve on her own magical abilities is one of the best ways to get her on your side. She isn't very trusting of people she's just met, and has a particular disdain for Connlaothians- especially Mordecai- due to their views on magic. That's not to say that she couldn't trust them, but it would take some convincing in order to get her to open up. However, Juliana does appreciate some good music or a well-told story, and is less irritable in quieter situations.

Magic/Abilities
Juliana has incredible talent when it comes to using Life magic. She has the ability to heal terrible wounds, whether they be her own or others. However, her spell casting abilities are unrefined due to her lack of schooling. As a result, her healing can sometimes be as painful as being wounded, and will often leave a scar when healing major wounds. The magic also drains some of her own energy when she uses it, depending on how serious the wound is.

Being a Serenian possessing powerful magic, iron and steel are very harmful to her. Simply touching them is enough to leave a burn on her skin. In order to defend herself in the event that she is attacked, she keeps a dagger with her whenever she can. She doesn't have any training with it, but it's better than nothing.

Relationships
None as of yet.
