Lorin finished her drink and ordered three more.  "Having fun?" Lorin asked, laughing. "Am I!" After the fifth, she was feeling a little light-headed, but she wasn't going to let that stop her!

She ordered another.

Lorin wiped her eyes, sniffing. "My name is Lorin, Lorin Silverith.  And a meal would be great." She looked to Aleron. "About your offer about killing monsters for pay, I don't like fighting, but perhaps we could tweak your idea to fit both of us.  Either way, I'll have to think about it."

Her eyes widened as Inigo gave her some coins.  She smiled at him, but shook her head. "I can't take these.  Not now."

Oax gripped the mans' arm in her strong jaws.  If she wanted, she probably could have broken the bone right there, but the hyena, now, was not trying to kill the man.  Being an animal, her senses were heightened, and she had seen the small change as well as Maria.

Kirl stood back, seeing that Oax was doing fin by herself, and Kirl didn't want to get in the way.

Oax pinned the man down, growling even as she held his arm in her teeth.

Kirl saw the doubt in Maria's face, and softly smiled. "I know that your lion form is new for you, and I know that you, as of now, have no control over it.  But the next time you change, I will, hopefully, be able to calm you down and we can maybe even 'talk'."

Kirl gathered some dry grass and put it onto the wood.  Then, crouching next to it, pulled out a flint and steel.  Bringing them close to the dry grass, she struck.  The sparks flew and the grass started, soon starting the smaller sticks.

Oax came and sat next to Kirl, pushing her nose under her arm.  Kirl laughed and petted the hyena. "I'm sure Oax will be able to help you too," Kirl said. "If you happen to get out of control in your lion form I wouldn't be able to stop you without hurting you.  Oax, on the other hand, is bigger than you will be in your other form and will be able to subdue you without hurting you.  Though I hope that it never comes to that."

Kirl sat back, scratching Oax behind the ears. "If you ever feel yourself start to change, cry out, if you can, then we'll be able to ready ourselves."

"I've been traveling since I left my town," Kirl said as she knelt next to the pile of wood and stacking it into a teepee. Then at Maria's next question her eyes grew wide. "That's brilliant!" she exclaimed. "If I can communicate with you when you are in your lion form, I will be able to possibly calm you, help you get in control of yourself when you're in you're lion form!"

Lorin knew that most halflings could hold a considerable amount of alcohol, and actually doubted that she, Lorin, would win.  But hey, it would be fun!

She picked up her second mug and drank it down.

The feari stayed in the corner, but it hissed, "I don't have namessssss." It watched Valyn sit down and pick up a book, but it didn't move. "Why did you have the bag of body partsssss?"

Lorin grinned and slapped a hand on the table. "You're on."  She pulled some coins from a pouch on her belt. "I'll start with twelve."

Then she tipped back her mug and downed the rest of her drink. "Do you think you can out-drink me?" she asked playfully.  Then she ordered another mug.

Lorin looked up at Gen's face, taking deep, shaking breaths.  She shook her head at his question of her being embarrassed to be seen with him. "N-never, I would never be embarrassed." She took a few more breaths. "Thank you," she looked to Aleron. "Thank you as well."

She shakily got to her feet and looked at the ground. "I'm sorry," she lifted her gaze to Aleron's face. "I'm sorry I stole from you."

Lorin stopped, and she felt tears running down her face. "I need the money-!" She let out an involuntary sob.  Then she sank to the street, sobbing uncontrollably.  It wasn't just the situation she was in this moment, it was her whole life, she couldn't keep the emotions in anymore, like she had for the past twelve years.  She hadn't cried since she had left the workhouse where her parents had left her when she was born.  She had been six when she left.

The weight of her whole life crashed down onto her now.  The path she had taken was a hard one.  It was stressful, physically trying, and difficult.  Some days, she loved being a thief, the freedom, the adventure.  Other days, when she was starving and cold, she wondered why she hadn't chosen an honest profession.  She really was only a thief for the adventure, and these men were being so kind to her, despite what she did.  Now, as she sobbed on the street, she regretted her decision to become a thief.

She tried to say something more, but she couldn't.  Unable to stop she sobbed quietly, her face in her hands, sitting on the dirty street.

It's nice to meet you, Maria," Kirl said smiling. "I can communicate with most animals.  I only realized this power when I met Oax, though."

Kirl got to her feet and walked to her pack, which she had set on the ground long before. "You say you've traveled, at least a bit, and you know how to hunt, so we should be at the city by dark tomorrow."  She looked up at the darkening sky. "We should stay here for the night.  WE'll start early tomorrow morning.  And don't worry about the wolves, Oax keeps them away just with her scent."

Kirl took a few dead branches from the forest floor and started to make a fire. "The fire will also help keep them and other animals away."

"I'm sorry, I really am," Lorin said, shaking her head, her eyes wide. "But I've had a bad week, nothing I've stolen has had anything of value, even the purses." She was on the brink of tears. "I haven't eaten a good meal in more than a week.  If I give you the coins I'll have nothing, I need them," she wasn't lying, she could feel the pang of hunger in her stomach, and the purses she had just stolen had had only a copper coin or two, not nearly enough for anything substantial.

Lorin had taken the coins out of the purse and put the ring into it.  She had put the coins in another pouch and she now took the pouch off of her belt that held just the ring. "It's in here."  Her voice almost cracked.  She tossed the purse on the ground in front of Gen.

Her heart was pounding madly, and she turned around and started to walk away.
#2273
Lorin swallowed. "I didn't come back to give back everything," she said nervously, for even as she said it she wondered why she didn't, just give it all back and get out of there, but she continued. "I came back to give him the ring, not the coins.  I could have not come back at all, then he wouldn't have anything, but I did.  So I'll give him the ring and get out of here.  That's my deal.  Please take it, I hate to fight."
#2274
Lorin could feel her heart pounding in her chest, and her hands were shaking.  "Y-yes, you're right. But-but if I give it back to him you have to promise not to hurt me.  And you have to let me leave here."
#2275
When she was sure she was safe for the moment, Lorin turned off into an alleyway and leaned against the wall.  She untied the ring from the pouch and held it up.  She saw that it was a woman's ring, and as she looked she realized how sorry she actually felt.  She wondered why, she'd stolen rings in the past and had never felt this kind of guilt.  Maybe it was that the young man had been ignored by the bartender at the tavern, then she had had to knock him out.  She almost never used force, and that must have had something to do with it.

She sighed and retied the ring securely to the pouch.  Then she stepped out of the alley and started to walk down the street again.

She stole a few purses as she walked, unnoticed, and these thefts gave her no guilty feelings.  But even as she stole, the guilt of stealing the ring gnawed at her.  Finally, she couldn't take it any longer.  She walked up to a sewer grate in the street and untied the ring.  She crouched next to the grate and held the ring over it.  She knew she wouldn't be able to sell it, so discarding it would have to do.

She sat there for a whole minute, her hand poised over the grate, unmoving.  Then she sighed and stood up, she couldn't do it.

She knew what she had to do.  She turned around and started walking back the way she had come.  She would have to give the ring back. Not the money, just the ring.  She started to walk faster, and soon she was sprinting through the streets back towards the alleyway.  When she got to the bend she peeked around it, and saw three people there.  The young man who she had taken the ring from, another young man, and-!

The blind swordsman.  She gulped in fear and steeled herself.  Sure, she was scared of him, but she knew she had to give the ring back.

She stepped around the corner and into the alleyway.

Kirl shook her head. "Not really, not the kind that you have, or the kind mages have.  But I can communicate with Oax and other animals.  They can let me know what they are thinking through a mental link." She smiled. "When I was twelve a little hyena pup stumbled into our backyard.  It was thin and its fur was dirty and thin.  Her parents had been killed when they were stealing sheep from a nearby farmer.  I took the little pup in.  It was Oax, and as soon as I saw her i knew we had a connection.  I was right.  I was kicked out of my village for taking her in, since hyenas are hated in the village I lived in."

She scratched Oax on the top of her head. "Oax is not a regular hyena, I learned a few years after we had met.  She is a Gann Hyena.  They are the same as a regular hyena in every aspect except they are a tad bigger and will live nearly six times as long."

"As for where to start? Hmmm." Kirl frowned and put a finger on her lips. "The nearest city is 25 miles away, and it would take me nine hours to get there from here. . .  Have you ever traveled before-?  Oh, my gosh!  I don't even know your name!  I'm Kirl Moonharber, and you know this is Oax, what's your name?"

Lorin smiled and took a long drink from her mug. "My parents weren't the kind of people who should have become parents," she said.  "My earliest memories are of the workhouse in which they dropped me off into when I was born.  Working there was horrid, that's why when I was six, I ran away.  I started to steal to get money and food and other necessities, then I became really good at it, and people started to hire me.  Then I got involved with the Soot Wolves at twelve.  I'm not technically a member, but I do work for them every so often.  When I'm not on a job for the Wolves or some other thieves guild, I work on my own."

She took another sip of whisky. "I've never had a real home, but that's fine with me.  Sleeping in alleys and trees and on the tops of buildings is fine with me!"
#2278
Lorin winced as the young man crumpled to the ground.  She bit her lip, she really hated violence.  She backed away and then turned, running down the alley away from where the young man lay.  As she neared where the inn was she changed course, she didn't want to run into the blind guy.  Though he was blind, he looked tough, not like most of the blind people Lorin saw, small, frail.

Oh, no, this guy had been the exact opposite of that description. He had been more than six feet tall and muscly, not to mention the sword at his hip.

As she ran, Lorin tied the money pouch onto her belt.  She wondered how much the ring was worth.  Then she realized that the ring may have had sentimental value to the young man.  The ring of someone he loved who may have been lost.  At this thought Lorin stopped in her tracks.  She felt a sharp pang of guilt, but then she shook her head.  She was a thief, stealing was what she did!  If she gave back every ring or piece of jewelry, she would be starving or dead.

She shook her head again and started to move again.  She was now in a busy street and with all of the people and horses around, it would be hard to find her in the crowd.

She just hoped that the blind swordsman didn't come after her.

Wants and Limits / JackieCat's Wants and Limits

PLAYER WANTS

What types of plots are you interested in playing?
Most plots I'm fine with, but I really like adventure and conflict, especially with two morally conflicted characters!  I'd possibly do some slice-of-life stuff, but I'm not very good at it!  (I'll usually end up throwing in a bandit attack to liven things up! :P)

What types of plots are you not interested in playing?
Excessive violence and I am not comfortable writing intimate love scenes/sex.

How often can you reply to any given thread?
It depends.  Sometimes, I'll post a lot for a few days straight, then there'll be a few days where I don't, followed by a few days that I do. Generally I'll reply at least once a day or more. If its been a  long time and I haven't replied to a thread, feel free to PM me a reminder, don't worry, I won't mind!

What is the longest you're willing to wait for a reply to a thread?
If I have to wait? A month, well, actually forever if the other person PM's me with a reason they can't reply for a while.  Of course, I would rather not have to wait long, but everyone has a different life and times a day they can be RPing!

Are you open to RPing over instant messengers? If so, what's the best way to contact you and what times are you generally available?
Nope, forum posting is the best for me.

Are you open to post volleying?
(Where you and another player post rapidly back and forth in a thread with each other. If so, what's the best way to set that up?)

Yeah, most of the time I'm for it, it's fun!  I haven't really ever set one up, but I'm game for it! So if you want to set one up, just PM me!  I love post volleying!

Anything else?
Like I said probably a million other times on this post, no excessive violence or intimate love scenes and sex.

PLAYER LIMITS

What are you limits regarding powerplay/godmoding?
(For instance, do you mind if someone grabs your character? Picks them up? Punches them?)

Minor things are okay if your character has, like, some really powerful skill or something.  Your character can put their hand on my characters shoulder, or grab them, but I would have the right to have my character pull away from that grip and get out.  As for fighting a punch might be fine, but I would rather have something along the lines of:
(Insert Name Here) aimed to stab (Insert Name Here) in the leg and hoped for a hit. Rather than: (Insert Name Here) stabbed (Insert Name Here) in the leg.
Also, please don't take control of my character as in what they say, think, feel.

What are your limits in regards to romantic situations?
(What are you comfortable with and not comfortable with? Do you prefer to pre-plot relationships or let them happen organically? Are you open to IC-rejection or love-triangles? Age differences? Etc.)

I am really looking to write some romance!  And romance is fine, but not too intimate.  I haven't written much love up to this point and would be really exited to RP some!  Organic relationships are good, but pre-plotting would be fine as well.  Love triangles are fine too.  Age differences?  I would prefer to have characters who have romance to have about the same lifespan, give or take a hundred years.  As in, I wouldn't want a twenty year old normal human in love with a 5000 year old other being.  I don't find the actual age difference weird, just that they will die at such different times, but if one were to somehow change their lifespan, that'd be plottable (depending on if we want to change our characters!).  I am also open to any pairings, LGBTQ+, heterosexual, ect.

What are your limits in regards to sex?
(Do you prefer to imply it, fade to black, or play it out? Is there anything you won't write?)

Not something I'm interested in.  I don't write it and I don't want to have it heavily suggested in threads I'm participating in.  Of course, if two characters fall in love, and the thread takes place over a matter of months (IC) or something, it can be said that a person is pregnant, but not play out the exact sexual interaction. If my character and your character are in a relationship, and you think one of them should become pregnant, let me know, and I'll probably agree!  To sum it all up, I am perfectly fine with kissing and moderate touching, as well as flirting, (even shamelessly XD), but all in all, more innocent stuff.  PM me if you're not sure, I'm sure we'll be able to come up with something that appeals to both parties!

What are your limits in regards to pregnancy within plots?
(Are you okay with pregnancy in plots? Miscarriages? Loss?)

Yes, but I'd like to discuss it first.

What are your limits in regards to violent scenes?
(Are you comfortable with violent scenes? Do you prefer to imply it, fade to black, or play it out? Is there anything you won't write?)

Battle scenes are fine, but I don't want excessive violence, torture could be implied, fade to black, but I would rather it not be played out in excessive detail.

What are your limits in regards to abuse/rape in plots?
(Are you comfortable with such themes? Do you prefer to avoid them? Do you prefer to imply it, fade to black, or play it out?)

For rape.  No.  Don't want it implied, faded to black, or played out in any threads I am participating in.  No thank you.

As for abuse, I am okay with a little verbal abuse, and it being mentioned, but that's about it.

Are you okay with characters being transformed against their will?
(Think vampires and werewolves. Should a player ask before attempting to turn your character?)

I'd like to be asked and then I'll decide, it depends on the situation completely

What about healing?
(For instance, if someone plays a blind character they may not want people to try and "cure" the character.)

Ask me, and then I'll decide, same as the question above.  If its something really small, like a cut, then just do it, and I'll decide if it works or not!

Anything else?
(Anything else you want to add that other players should know!)

Not that I can think of!
#2280
Oax growled in pain as the man's claws dug into her sides.  The hyena had the man pinned to the ground, for the moment at least, and she saw Kirl and Maria advancing with their weapons out.

Kirl started to run to Oax and the man as the hyena shook the claws from her sides and opened her maw, her large teeth glinting in the sunlight.

She shot her head down, aiming to bite the man's face.
