Lorin heard and saw the young man turn the corner.  He looked around, but didn't see her, backed up against the wall, in the dark.  Lorin was breathing heavily, in fear, but then she realized that, in the dark, he couldn't see her.  He was turning an a circle, trying to glimpse her, then he started to use magic.

Lorin leaped aside as a projectile of force shot past her.  He was firing random shots, hoping to hit her.  She almost laughed, though it wasn't perfect, her vision in this light was better than the young man's, even if he was part elf.

Lorin ran around him until she was positioned directly behind him.  She raised her dagger, and winced, she didn't much like violence, especially against innocent people, but in her job, it was sometimes necessary.  Lorin had never killed an innocent person, though a few other thieves and murderers had met the wrong end of her blade.  Lorin steeled herself and brought the butt of her dagger down sharply towards the young mans' head, hoping to hit him and knock him out.

The feari followed Valyn to his home, all the while wary of him.  They got there and when they went inside the elf tossed the feari a piece of meat.  The creature leaped onto it immediately, devouring it within seconds.

But as soon as it was finished it retreated back into a shadowy corner of the room.  It's wary eyes locked upon Valyn.

"Maria!" Kirl and Oax walked through the brush, side by side. They had recently met a young girl named Maria who could turn into a lion cub!  Kirl had decided to try to help the girl and they were now in Serendipity. They had found no help in Adela and had traveled here.

"Maria?"   Kirl called out again.  They had been walking and Maria had run off ahead.  "Maria!  Where are you?"  Kirl called.  She opened her mouth to call again when she got a warning from Oax.  The hyena and young woman had a special connection; Oax could let Kirl know what the hyena was thinking by sending emotions.  The hyena perked up its ears and raised it hackles.  She growled softly, and then tore off deeper into the brush.

Kirl dashed after her, and a moment later they burst out next to the river.  Maria was in the clearing with a strange little man.  His hands and feet were clawed, he wore brightly colored clothing and had a feathered tail, but Kirl wasn't interested in any of that, for the man seemed to be threatening Maria.

Kirl expertly drew her blades, the two long curved daggers appearing in her hands in a flash.  Oax let out a barking growl and leapt for the small man, hoping to barrel into him and knock him down.

The feari looked at the bag, then back to the elf, then to the bag, back to the elf.  It hissed in pain as its stomach twinged again.  It could feel its heart beating wildly.  This choice could change its whole life.

It hissed quietly and slowly slinked over to the elf, eyes downcast.

Lorin saw that there was a ring tied to the purse, she was just about to examine it more closely when she saw a flash of light.  She narrowed her eyes, trying to see where the light had come from, then she heard the sound of footsteps.  Running footsteps.  She sucked in a breath, great!  She was being chased.  She took off running, sprinting away.  She mentally kicked herself, she had been a fool to look at what she had stolen right behind the alleyway, and now she could be caught.

"Oh, no!" Lorin thought. "I will not be caught, not this elf!"

She was familiar with the tavern she had just left, but the part of the town around it was strange to her, she knew these streets no more than the person chasing her, as she suspected it was the young elf/man.  She turned a corner and skidded to a halt.

"No!" A dead end.  Lorin looked frantically around for an escape way.  Lorin was an excellent climber, but the walls of the dead end were smooth and tall.  There was nothing in the alley for her to climb onto to get over it, and she could heard quick footsteps approaching.

She backed up against the wall and drew her two small daggers.

(OOC: A fine idea, Aleron.  It's up to Wicked Basket now!)

Monster, freak, creep?  Weren't those bad things? The feari thought.  It didn't really want to go with this elf, it didn't like his demeanor.  Then the feari winced as a sharp pain pierced its stomach.  It was starving.  The feari looked into the elf's eyes and knew them that it did not want to go with him.  It would eat the meat in the bag, that would hold back the hunger until it found some more food.

The feari shook its head, slowly retreating back behind the pile of garbage.

Lorin chuckled and ran her fingers through her long ponytail of black hair.  She had gotten out of the tavern and was now in the alley behind it.  She tossed the coin purse in her hand, the coins clinking together.  It was always handy to have a spare purse, one that could be filled with other small pieces of metal to replace the real purse with.  Usually the switch wouldn't be noticed until the thief was long gone.

"Why thank you, good sir.  I really try my best." Lorin said, bowing, and as she bowed she ducked away into the crowd.

Uhg.  Why did that blind guy have to show up?  She would have been able to slip away unseen if it hadn't been for him.  Well, she had slipped away unseen but not unnoticed.  The man had been kind of scary, tall, blind, shirtless, scarred.  She ran towards the door, but in the crowd, it was slow going, she looked behind her but couldn't see the young man or the scary looking one.

The feari narrowed its eyes and took a step back as the elf touched it.  It hissed warily, the same smell of the bag was on this elf, but it was fainter, a human wouldn't have been able to smell it.  It cocked its head to the side, the elf had said he had meat, and the feari was hungry, very hungry, but it didn't much like the look in the elf's eyes.

It could just eat the meat in the bag, it realized, but that wouldn't last very long, then it would be starving again. The feari tried to speak, but only a long hiss came out of its mouth.  The creature tried again, and the words were so full off hisses and growls it was hard to understand.

"Who are yousssss?"

Lorin snorted quietly in contempt at the young man sitting at the bar, he was obviously new to city life.  A farmer, most likely.  Though there was something different about him. . .  Aha!  His ears, they were a bit pointed, and he was built similar to an elf, but he had to much noticeable musculature to be one.  A Half-Elf, perhaps?  No, he was too human-looking.  A distant relative could have been an elf, who knows?

Lorin was leaning against the wall, arms crossed, in the shadows.  She was from Arca, but had decided she wanted something a little different from her normal day, something exiting!  Well, actually, her life was very exiting.  She was a thief, she stole stuff.  She was an expert at her craft, but she was still seen on occasion and chased.  She had only been caught a few times in her life, and all of them she had escaped from unharmed.  Well, not completely unharmed.  A bruise here, or a cut there, nothing serious.

Lorin had traveled a lot as a young teen, and she decided to come to a town called Edersden.  She had been to this town before, and was familiar with the tavern.  The ale wasn't the best, but it was cheap.

The tavern was starting to fill, even more than it had been before, and the lute player and her listeners were forced to move closer to each other for the other patrons to fit.

The young man Lorin assumed to be a farmer sat down at a table in the corner of the room that was empty.  Lorin saw his money pouch and immediately  stepped away from the wall.  She pulled a pair of fingerless leather gloves from her belt and slipped them over her green-skinned hands.  Then the young elf started to make her way through the crowd that now filled the tavern.  She slipped between two mug-holding dwarves and then she was behind the young man.  Lorin was an expert, and she reached for his pouch, effortlessly taking from him.  She was about to step away when one of the dwarves behind her backed accidentally into her.  She stumbled forward and right into the back of the young man's chair.

She swore colorfully.

Kirl wrapped her arms around the girl and listened as she told her about her ancestor. The girl seemed so afraid, and she should be, her life for the past days had been a jumble of emotions.

"Your mother meant that there are not only two sides of anything." Kirl said, and Oax sat down next to them, leaning against their bodies. There was more than your ancestor simply suddenly becoming an evil out of control beast. killing, and being exiled.  Your ancestor probably wasn't trained in her transforming processes," Kirl said softly. "So when she turned she was completely out of control.  It may not have been her fault.  Her family maybe wasn't supportive of her power and made no effort to help her control it.  They may have been so afraid of what she could become that they would keep her locked up, so when she turned into a beast she wouldn't harm anyone.  But if she was ever let out and then turned into the beast, she would kill people.  Her family was too afraid.  Both of her and what would happen if she was found out.  She was.  You're family was exiled unjustly.  It was not they who killed people, it was an ancestor that lived long ago.  They should have gotten help for you when they found out." Kirl shook her head sadly, still holding the girl tight.

But I'll help you."  She leaned back and put her hands on the girl's shoulders, looking into her blue green eyes. Then her face broke into a smile. "So, where do you want to start?"

"That makes no sense," Kirl said, shaking her head. "If your brother died by a knife, how could your other brother accuse you?  You did nothing to hurt him.
Kirl started to pace. "You said you tasted blood when you woke up.  You transformed, obviously, and the blood?  Hmmm. . . The blood. . . oh." Kirl's eyes widened. "You attacked.  You attacked the men who had killed your brother.  Your other brother saw that, and in his fear his memories could have been, well, scrambled.  His little sister had turned into a lion right after his brother had been killed.  It makes sense, emotional and physical trauma."

Kirl stopped pacing, and the frown that had been on her face as she thought disappeared as she saw the girl's expression.  Kirl walked up to her and knelt down so the girl's face was even with hers.

"You asked if I could help you.  I'm not certain, but I know one thing sure as day.  I will try to help you with everything in my power to do so."

Kirl's eyes grew wide, and she bit her lip. "That's, that's horrible!" she said, then she put her hand on the girl's shoulder.  "I was cast out of my town," Kirl said, "because I took in Lax when she was a pup." She shook her head. If you tell me exactly what happened maybe I can help you.  I know that this might be hard for you, but you need to tell me how your brother died, and why your other brother was mad at you.  Then I may be able to help."

The feari hissed as the bag hit it on the head.  It shot to a crouch, teeth bared, ready for a fight.  Then it saw the bag of rubbish lying next to it.  It sniffed the air, wait, that wasn't just rubbish, something else was in there.  Something that smelled good.

The feari tore open the bag and saw what was inside.  Though the feari wasn't evil, it still liked to eat all meat.  It was about to take a bite when a thought struck it.  Who had thrown this bag?  And why did they have a bag of body parts?  Then the feari heard a voice and peered over the pile of garbage.

An elf man was crouching in the alleyway, and the feari slowly started to climb over the rubbish pile towards him, curious about why he had had a bag of body parts.

Essyrn / Alone and in Feari
April 08, 2015, 09:10:02 AM
The feari hissed as it crouched on the top of the tall building.  Hissing again, it spread its small wings and glided to the next rooftop.  It landed softly, its long spined tail waving around it and its clawed hands and feet gripping the roof.  It opened its wide mouth and let its long black tongue snake out of its toothed maw to taste the air.  It looked down off of the edge of the building, its black eyes flicking about, looking to to the street below, where people bustled about, not seeing the black creature far above them.

The feari leaped on to the next building and then the small creature climbed vertically down the wall of the building and into a small secluded dead-end alleyway.  It crouched on the ground and looked around the small space, its large black eyes glowing slightly red in the dark space.  It sighed and sat back.

People thought that all feari were mindless cruel monsters who killed soldiers and innocents alike, the only gain was for the pleasure that it brought them.  But there were some feari who were actually good, and who just wanted to be accepted.  Those feari were usually killed when they came out into the light.  People feared them and killed them before the feari head time to explain itself.

The feari leaped on four legs behind a pile of rubbish in the alleyway.  It curled up in a ball, wrapping its tail around itself and spreading its wings over its body.  The feari didn't think that anyone would find it in the alleyway, the pathway out to the street was narrow and long, but there's was always a chance. . .

Kirl frowned, "Physically?  Possibly, but if he was trying to defend himself then I think that you wouldn't be able to kill him.  But if he was unable to fight at all, and you bit his neck or face, then. . .". Kirl bit her lip. "But I don't think that you could, even confused and scared in your loin form, kill someone that you did not want to kill.  Even if you tried to kill someone, I think you would have trouble."

Oax nuzzled the girls side and grunted.  Kirl looked at the girl searchingly.  "Why do you want to know if you can kill someone?"
