"Oi!" Jayari grunted when her plan backfired and she went down with him, and for a moment it wasn't so terrible, because he had landed atop her (score!). Except for the part where he rolled right off and bounded away before she had the chance to insert a little playful innuendo.
Killjoy.
Rising to her feet, Jayari darted after him, now that much more determined to win. She wove through the trees, quickly gaining ground--and then jumped when an arrow hit a tree off to her right and front. She cut a look at Ki'adan, eyebrows raised.
It was like he wanted to lose!
Suited her just fine!
She had just nocked another arrow and was moving swiftly forward when the deer bolted ahead of her, white tail flashing as it wove through the trees a few dozen yards away, zigzagging swiftly. Jayari froze, pulled her bow taut and aimed, and waited, carefully telegraphing its progress--and then let fly.
It struck the animal's flank and it stumbled, then fell.
