Xanti forcefully shoved the demon out of her head AGAIN. Really, this was getting quite tiresome. Even the giants were nothing but annoying. He had expected the mental walls of an untrained child mage. Instead, he had encountered the impenetrable walls of an experienced survivalist who had spent 14 years doing nothing but building walls. That was the one area where she was very, very practiced.

Watching the demon and the soldier face off, on the brink of battle, she didn't know what to do. Really, what she should do depended solely on whether Soules believed she was a mage or not. If he did, she should use her magic to help him and hope he'd spare her life for it. If not, she dared not show any indication that Chenaank was right.

"young madam, I need you to listen to me, soon as I move I need you to run around the corner and into the Library find a lady by the name of Lunabelle tell her we have a demon, NOW RUN" He yelled to Xanti. Drawing his saber in a clean smooth arch Soules adjusted his position so that he was between the demon and the path Xanti would have to take if she was to escape.  He did not want to fight but it was obvious here was going to be no talking his way out of this mess.  Pressing the attack he faked high then with a twist of the wrist brought his blade down low and extended his arm in a thrust aimed for he demons gut.

NOW RUN

Bold were the words ringing through the air like as if it were beside Hjaldire. "hmm?" Hjaldire looked up to see what was going on but could see nothing continuing to walk off but slightly to where he thought he heard the noise. Just before rounding the Hjaldi saw the flash of the saber and then he saw it a demon! "by the gods is there demons everywhere in this land?" Hjaldi jumped to the side climbing nimbly up to a roof where he could observe in relative peace. Watching all these people not from his clans he was used to offered new views on swordplay and war tactics Hjaldi was a devoted disciple of his swordsmanship but knew the talent and strengths other styles took to master them and watching them also offered him a chance to see possible errors, if ever he was hired to combat or assassinate them.

But this was not the case so he would observe until he felt the blood lust or the need to. Hjaldire looked in curiosity at what might the demon do but was no less at the ready incase things were to turn awry.

Chenaank paid attention to what the soldier said to Xanti. Truly, this mortal must have been an idiot to say that out loud. He paid little attention to Soules, instead homing in on the presence above them. Some kind of barbarian looking thing was observing the entire debacle, but Chenaank cared little about this as well. As soon as Soules told Xanti to run, stone walls sprung up at both possible exits of the alleyway, and the sky above darkened. He watched with some kind of sick amusement as Soules feinted and then went in for the stab. The blade of his sabre bounced  off of his  abdomen with a dull thud, and Chenaank laughed, dropping his disguise and revealing his true form. (Too lazy to describe it, go read Chenaank's bio)

Promptly, Chenaank thrust his hand forwards, using the soldier's no doubt momentarily lost balance against him as his hand surged with energy as it rocketed towards Soule's chest. Should the hand even partially connect, the force and energy would launch Soules several feet backwards. At the same time, his walking cane became wreathed in blue fire as it flashed into an impeccably beautiful scimitar, crackling with energy and covered in blue flames. At the same time that he thrust his hand, Chenaank swung the scimitar towards Soule's hips making it so that unless Soules was some master contortionist, he'd really only be able to avoid one blow. "YOU'RE IN MY REALM NOW, INSOLENT MORTALS!" His voice screeched as it tore through the minds of everyone he took with him into a pocket dimension with a recreation of Uthlyn in it.

Bringer of Fenrir

Watching the walls fly up Hjaldi laughed with amusement. "He really shouldn't have told her to run... what a fool... As he watched the sabre hit it's owner's target the grace of it was amazing, all be it such a blade should be wielded with by a female in his culture. The dull thud rang through the alleyway, and watching the demon reveal him true self was awe inspiring almost making him wish he had such an entrance he could do but Hjaldi much rather have people not see him coming and then reap the stories of something killing everything and the rumors that would follow.

As he watched the demons cane morphed into a blade with blue fire. Hjaldi thought the blade fit it's master. Then the amazing moves the demon performed swiping at the sabre wielding man. As the blade performed it's dance through the air, as well as his hands burst forward like a arrow from a bow. Hjaldi watched wondering what would happen being careful to watch what the demon attempted as he had noticed the demon acknowledged him sitting and watching the skirmish.

"YOU'RE IN MY REALM NOW, INSOLENT MORTALS" the demon bellowed

"Foolish demon are they all so prideful? why would he not keep that bit a secret?... Maybe he is that strong as he can be boastful?" Hjaldi talked to himself. Looking behind him a mist began to form unnaturally light blue as if a unearthly ghastly light was inside of it. "I'm not fighting yet so calm i may not even spill blood here..." Hjaldi talked to the mist a growl emitted from all over the fog.

At the appearance of the walls on either end of the alley, Xanti hissed in frustration and ran back through the school instead, dodging teachers and questioning glances. She'd probably get detention for missing class, they loved to give her detention, but this was far more important. Finally out on the street, she raced for the library. Fortunately it wasn't too far. All the while, she was thinking about how fortunate it was that the soldier had a friend nearby. Maybe she wouldn't have to use her magic. Maybe he wouldn't have her killed when this was all over.

She crashed into the library like some kind of hooligan. There was nobody around. Deciding she had no time to waste, Xanti hollered as loud as she could, "LUNABELLE! LUNABELLE YOU'RE NEEDED BY A SOLDIER TO HELP HIM FIGHT A DEMON!"

nahash

Lunabelle had detected a strong magical presence and was just pondering what it could be when a young student burst into the library and started calling her name.  She dropped the scrolls she was holding and rushed to her desk.  For this girl to run to her and call for her by name narrowed the list of people that could be outside greatly.  It had to be the great and noble Soules always sticking his nose where it did not belong. She shed her lose outer robe, it would only get in the way in a fight and grabbed up a deck of talismans each with a verse blessing from Ansgar on them.  She also took up a staff, it looked like a shepherds crook but the curved top was a blade.

She did not even look the see if the girl was following her.  With the tools of her trade in hand Lumabelle sprinted out the door and around the corner to the alley.  Seeing it blocked by a magic wall she drew a card and uttered a sharp command over it before flicking it as wall.  The words on the card started to glow a unworldly blue and when the card touched the barrier it creaked and then vanished as the Confessor strode walked through.

Soules twisted his wristed and redirected his blade into the outstretched arm of the demon while stepping back and to the side to miss the scimitar aimed at his midsection.  He demon had brute strength but Soules was an experienced swordsman quite capable of holding his own. For a while anyways his blade just could not cut the skin of a demon and there was no doubt that he could not match him in stamina.  He would have to hold out till Luna got there.

SilverShadow

Xanti wasn't following Lunabelle because she had already taken off back the way she'd come. She got to the school yard and ran around the building, all the way back to the alley. She got there about the same time Lunabelle broke through the wall. She was out of breath, but not out of magic. Tired, distressed, fearful, and angry, she could no longer hold back, and she let it rip from her like a tsunami, all the elements set out to destroy the demon.

She had no control over her magic, but since her magic was directly tied to her emotions, it went straight for the demon and left Soules and Lunabelle well enough alone. She stood there in the alley, her eyes bright red with the power she was unleashing, and the storms began. Far fiercer than the storm that had previously threatened, this released a torrential downpour upon the alley, thunder cracked over head, lightning struck all around them trying to hit Chenaank, and in spite of the rain, the cobble beneath the demon caught fire.

watching what transgressed before him Hjaldi saw that the man with the sabre would eventually fail and be taken over in the fight. "Shall i interupt such a fight? can i even penetrate the field?" Hjali thought to himself, every moment he waited the mist and fog seemed to grow as did the growls all around. "Alright i get it!" Hjaldi snapped glaring through the mist with an annoyance. Glaring at something turning back to face the fight .

Hjaldi noticed a person appear producing a card and whispering something barely loud enough to notice but too quiet for his ears to hear. The being stood upright and with a determination throwing the card at the field and then a flash of blue light. and the woman strode through the barrier. That was Hjaldi's chance without delay Hjaldi lunged forward as a beast would leap after it's prey hands first Hjaldi landing on the ground glares quickly at his target and with a burst of energy surging through him leaps for the spot the woman had made

Hjaldi in a flurry plunged himself through the barrier, noticing a burst of magic behind him from what he could sense was the young girl who had ran off "Such power in her! lucky i had moved while i did". Hjaldi knew what he was doing was foolish and non profitable but if he were to  help a reward may be in his view, if success made it through the crack in the barrier that is. First things he noticed were the massive demon, bigger then he had first observed and thought, second was the sabre wielder had not taken damae at the demon's flurry of attacks, and third that the fog had not followed him and that the being in the mists were at the border of the barrier trying to get in... "Well you wanted me in here!" Hjaldi bellowed at the being.

Turning back to the beast and the two opponents he stayed near the edge of the border hands on his swords at the ready for what ever may come his way but not trying to get in the way. He observed the two humans and the demon and their stature. It was odd completely different from what he knew, the way they stood and how they treated the tools they used. Too human for his likes, Hjaldi stood hunched over close to the ground and hands always on his swords ready to draw and continue in a slash.

But for now Hjaldi would wait and see if or even who he would lend his blades and skill too...

Cheenank barely felt Soule's sabre hit his exposed arm as he regained his posture and took a few steps back to survey the situation. He ignored the fire at his feet, too high up in the heirarchy of demonic power to even consider it a nuisance, as well as the lightning. It was then that he noticed all the humans that showed up. It sort of irritated him, really, how as soon as one was in trouble, there just happened to be an entire menagerie of mages an warriors just around the corner. Another thing was the librarian, who he immediately identified as being anything but. When one had been around as long as he was, one learned to spot anti-demon magic and the objects associated with it.

He expelled some air through his nose, frustration evident in his eyes. He grinned suddenly, and he clenched his free hand. From the ground below him, molten gold started to seep up, and then he pointed his scimitar at the group of humans in front of him. Suddenly, the gold sprung up into a tidal wave that encompassed the entire width of the alley. As the wave surged forwards, forms appeared in it, like the furiously snapping heads of beasts or half constructed gold warriors with their scimitars raised. The heat of the molten wave was so intense, that it glassed the surface of the cobblestones as it passed.

SilverShadow

Xanti and Soules were suddenly surrounded by what could only be described as a frozen hurricane in a can. the rain collected around them in a whirlwind, the water freezing cold and some of it actually turning to sleet. It sizzled as it hit the molten gold, cooling the air to freezing temperatures. Xanti's face was red from exertion, for while she had no control over what it did, it was still her magic and therefore used her energy.

Bringer of Fenrir

hjaldi saw the wave of golden fury surge forth and also observed the hurricane surrounding the two humans, it was too strong to hope to jump into it and he did not wish to go where he was not yet welcomed. All Hjaldi knew was that this demon was no friend and so his lot was cast aside his fellow humans. But first this wave of death and yet wealth needed to be dealt with. "Hrothgar king god of all the other gods and father to the lessers i pray your blessings upon me and my line to come..."

Hjaldi drawing up his hands, in them clasping at the handles of his swords he leaped to the side bouncing off the wall to the other side in an attempt to leap over the golden wave in mid flight Hjaldi contorted his body so he began to spin and on his back revealed a shield which was obvious now was going to take the brunt of the attack and hopefully dis spell the rest.

Feeling the heat hit the shield Hjaldi felt the gold spray burning parts of him and quickly began to see the beasts and partial soldiers sweeping gnawing biting at him and started with his own fury fight back slashing at them until he came to a thud on the ground the attack had injured him      and where the golden beings had touched were burns and cuts lining his arms and legs where his shield and chain mail did not cover him.

"By the gods did not think that would work so well..." Hjaldi muttered out. Standing up looking around Hjaldi noticed the fog had now penetrated the border. "Took you long enough..." Hjaldi spoke and in reply an unearthly flurry or growling, howls and barks began to sound out of the fog sounds that would make any normal being flee in fear of This nether lit fog this unearthly mystery...

Luna walked straight towards to raging torrent of molten gold.  At the last moment before it washed over her she stabbed the butt of her staff into the ground.  The wave continued on but broke upon her staff and flowed around her leaving her unscathed.   She risked a quick glance over her shoulder to see who had followed her through the barrier but quickly snapped her attention back to the demon before her.  She called out to Soules over the raging tempest that the young mage had called up.  "take our young friend and flee, you cannot win here and she is to untrained to help, I will cover your retreat." She barked a few sharp commands to her cards and let six of them fly. They encircled the demon and started drawing off beads of energy.

Soules found himself enveloped in a wall of ice and rain.  The flood of gold steamed and sparked as it rapidly cooled. Soon a half circle of solid gold stood between him and the demon.  He could just hear Luna's voice over the driving wind.  He grabbed for Xanti's arm and ran back towards the weakend barrier.  "Break the shell" he called back to his demon hunting friend.  At the sound of his voice a card shoot past him and pierced the wall.  It started closing instantly and Soules found that he was hard pressed to make it through in time.  There was an electric arcing sound behind him as it sealed back up.  There was only one place the demon could not follow, the temple of Ansgar.   He Scooped Xanti up into his arms so he would not lose her as he ran.  Dashing through the streets he quickly made his way to the temple and ran up the stairs. As he crossed the threshold he felt a great weight melt off his shoulders. They were safe for now.  He sat Xanti down just inside the door and stood catching his breath.

At first Xanti screamed when Soules grabbed her, but then Luna's words registered in her head and she understood what was going on. Promptly she stopped fighting and started cooperating, even allowing Soules to pick her up and carry her into the temple.

As they fled, her magic waned, then vanished completely. Her vision got faintly fuzzy as her eyes changed back to their regular deep blue, and that's when she realized she'd lost her contacts. Panic settled quietly in her chest, but she pushed it down and refused to acknowledge it. For the moment her eyes weren't a problem, and she would soon have far more problems than that to contend with.

Hjaldi stood there as the mist over came him he could feel it numbing the pain. a strong sensation of uneasy and an itch came over the burns as the tissue began to heal from the mist slowly but noticeable. Hjaldi watched in astonishment and annoyance as the people who fought the demon one by one left "gods why do you they run is this demon a true nightmare that humans of this realm run?!" Hjald bellowed in question to the woman who threw the cards. "do not your gods offer protection?!"

Hjaldi was now annoyed at the number or people fighting ran for fear or to better themselves he honestly did not know but the way he commanded to earth he thought nothing could truely stand in his way or hinder him. He was wounded from this demon but he could see that the true base of this attack was not one directly aimed towards him. He was wounded yes so his lots may be cast but Hjaldi was a warrior of fortune as well as honor.

Readying himself again after giving himself a second once over nothing was serious only discomfort in pain some possible scarring and his armor would need be repaired as would he need a new shield now. Looking around Hjaldi looked for the gold somehow thinking that if he could gather some it would help in purchasing  new equipment.

DaGlobster

"No, they don't." Cheenank said as he stepped forwards. The ground behind Hjaldi was coated in slowly drying gold, and it still bubbled intensely. Without so much as a movement the cards trying to sap him of his energy exploded in bright flashes. "They depend on their gods to shield them, yet they are struck down screaming their names. It amuses me. They think they can hide in their temple. I spit on its steps last week, and laughed." He hissed, and he turned his head to Hjaldi.

"They run because they think they can escape me, because they do not know the extent of my power. They run like a wounded stag runs from the hunter, only delaying the inevitable and dying tired." He continued, his scimitar burning bright with demonic power. "And now, the man courageously leaves the woman to die as he escapes with a damsel. Tell me, barbarian, what is your price?" He said, and pointed his scimitar at Luna. From the tip of his scimitar, thousands of diamond needle-shards no longer than an arrowhead burst forwards, ricocheting down the alleyway in unpredictable trajectories towards her. At the same time, he threw up a shield with his free hand, the translucent barrier shielding him from possible retaliation.

(OOC modified)

Hjaldi quickly sheathed one of his swords and urgently grabbed his now heavy shield because of the gold that clung to the wood crouching down so the shield could cover his whole body waiting for the diamonds to penetrate the shield... And yet they did not looking up he now saw the Fog in full covering him he could see with in the fog the wolves of the afterlife, these beasts had followed his people since they could remember. Beasts that had died before battle truly sated them so even in death they climb and fight themselves out of the grasps of death to stand by Hjaldi's side and fight to sate themselves now in death.

The wolves growled at the demon. Hjaldi noticed though the attack was not aimed at him it was only poor placement of where He stood still behind the woman. Hjaldi now stood tossing the shield in annoyance of the uncomfortable and normal weight of it. "Price, you offer me money? Why you seem more content to kill me then to hire me ... beast" Hjaldi did not know what to call the hulking demon before him because all demons of his land were careless beasts. The intelligence of this demon honestly took Hjaldi by surprise

"You offer a price for my swords? i will want new chain mail. new materials for a shield to start! That will cover the offence of the attack you have sent upon me." Hjaldi was cautious but now willing to listen...

Soules lead Xanti to a small prayer chapel, one of many such alcoves that ringed the main sanctuary.  On the floor were a couple of cushions in half circle around the perimeter for practitioners to kneel on while praying or meditating.  "Please sit, rest, I fear we have much to talk about" He said taking a seat himself.  He picked a cushion so that his back would be to the wall and he was facing the door.  His sword and sheath were free from their harness and both sat in his lap.  "you don't need to worry about controlling your powers in here, this place is sanctified by Ansgar and will suppress your powers as long as you are within these halls." He said calmly.  You could tell that he was still on edge but there was no hostility directed at the young girl before him.  "I'm in a difficult position now so I think it might help if you tell me a little about yourself."

*   *   *

A cold sweat beaded on Luna's forehead, she had nerves of steel but this demon was like nothing she had ever faced before.  None of her attacks seemed to have any effect on it. True none of his magic could touch her but that still left them in a stalemate.  Then there was the wildcard, the barbarian that had rushed in to join the fray but did not seem to want to commit himself to a side.

She drew a card holding it vertical as she enchanted it. A light blue translucent shield appeared before her and the diamond projectiles from the demon vanished with hisses of steam as they struck the barrier.  "Are you a friend or foe, this demon only wants unwanted destruction, there is no honor in that." She barked to Hjaldi.

Bringer of Fenrir

"And you? what do you wish for? he offers coin for me to turn a blind eye possibly more to turn my blade on you?" Hjaldi was now amused more than annoyed. Hjaldi over looked the woman and noticed how she was clad in small trinkets and tools for a mage. "Women do you serve the goddess of magic? the god kings wife?" Hjaldi looked about her questioning. now seeing no harm in either of the dueling beings and realizing he and the fog was the tipping point of this skirmish.

Hjaldi quickly resumed his face glaring at the woman and demon cautious of both but trying to weigh his options. "Do you offer me payment? Or give me reason to think your fight for honor sides with me" Hjaldi clenched his sword tightly and the wolves all bared their fangs and hunching over preparing to lunge at whoever attacked first.

"Destroy this world, as if!" Chenaank bellowed out, a dangerous look in his eye. "Even for an excorcist, a so called expert on demons, you lack the foresight of a child. This world, and all its denizens, are so much more profitable for me just the way they are. I didn't come here to hurt anybody, but it was your friend who started this fight, and it was your friend who abandoned you to your death!" He venomously spat, and he held his other hand out. Another scimitar, identical to the one he had in his other hand, flashed into existence. He stepped forwards, and hit the edges of both scimitars together. The sparks created from this flew up into the air, and then to his sides, turning into an extra pair of spectral arms, each of them charging a spell.

"If you help me, barbarian, not only will I replace your gear, but the weapons and armor you receive will be of even higher quality." He said, and returned his attention to Luna. "Nervous, exorcist?" He whispered. Both the spectral arms thrust out, producing bright beams of energy. One went directly for her, and the other intentionally flew past her and doubled back, attempting to hit her from behind.
