The cock thrashed beneath her spear, but Yasmin held it steady, gritting her teeth and leaning all her weight into it. Adjusting her grip, she gave the spear a quick, vicious twist, and the croc spasmed violently and then went still, save for some twitching. It always took a while before reptiles realized they were dead.
Her heart beat wildly in her chest, because during all this, she wasn't unaware of what had happened. Red Sun was in the water, Cassius had gone in after her, and meanwhile she could see more movement in the waters around them as more and more crocs were attracted to the blood and commotion. But Yasmin could do nothing to help them; she wasn't going in that water!
The only thing she could do was try to keep the other crocs occupied, to fight them off as well as she could.
Not before she got her kill, of course.
She pulled the croc's body toward her boat, planted her foot on its belly, and wrenched her spear free. Then, reaching into the water, she hefted it into her boat with a grunt. It was smaller than the last one, only about six feet with the tail, but sill formidable. Then, standing again, she watched the waters with her spear raised and ready, her stomach a mess of nerves. She didn't know either Cassius or Red Sun longer than this afternoon, but she still didn't want to see anyone get torn apart by a giant lizard! She wouldn't wish that upon anyone.
"Hurry up, you two..."
