Milo walked through the village, keeping close to the buildings out of habit. This place looked different in the day than at night when he’s usually here, busier too.
He didn’t take up his usual fast pace in case his guardians wanted to browse around first and to keep close. Pink eyes glanced around; he wasn’t too fond of crowds, even though they were useful to slip away in. He wondered if this was going to be the last time he saw this place, not that he’ll miss it much, it just seemed weird leaving everything he knew behind, plus he was going with two total strangers that he only just met today and adopted him.
It was scary in a way, but Milo decided it was exciting just the same; he was going on an adventure!
With that in thought he allowed himself to grin.

“Streetz! A boy called, weaving through the crowd. Milo recognised him as Tug, a boy that he’d hang around sometimes and Streetz was the rat-boy’s nickname.
“Whatcha doing? Tug asked, stuffing his hands into his pockets. Tug was part of a gang of kids that lived rough, only a few of the Orphaners were allowed to join.
“Been adopted. Milo replied grinning which received an ‘oh’ and a nod.
“Wuz wondern’ whys you were ‘ere at this time. The boy replied with a smile and an odd glance to Tully and Maeryn before starting to leave.
“Gud luck wif that. Well got ta go! Bye!

Streetz watched him go then turned to his adopted family.
“Need get something. He said waiting for their permission.

Tully had been chatting rapidly to Maeryn, in words that began to stream and blend together into a barely coherent sentence. She skipped beside the taller woman - and she didn't seem like she was a few years older then her. She spun and grabbed Maeryn's arm, swinging it with her as she tugged and giggled and spun again as Maeryn barely had the generosity to spare her a glance. What could she do with Tully? She just let her do her own thing, spaz and giggle and freak.

Like a little kid.

Milo was more grown up then Tully. Sheesh.

When the other boy came up, Maeryn appraised him with the quickest glance of her revealed right eye. It trailed back to Tully, who was leaning against her and watching. She brushed her brown reddish hair out of her hazel eyes that glistened slightly, watching with a steadiness then hinted at something other then her obvious hyperactivity.

When Milo turned to them she smiled and nodded, stretching and using Maeryn to hold her. Maeryn barely moved, just allowed Tully to do whatever she wanted.

"Sure. Just come back quick, alright? Not to be a bitch or anything, it's just the fact that people can be a little odd," she said, her voice holding a certain motherly tone that displaced her usual character only slightly.

Maeryn glanced at her friend. Was Tully really caring for this kid or was she acting? She didn't know - Tully's life revolved around lies and lies, circling and entangling herself within them. She was lucky to know who she really was admist the confusion she had created for herself over the years. And Maeryn was the only one who knew - having been dragged in herself. They wrote down everything about their characters and themselves on pieces of paper. Sometimes it was so hard to know who they were.

(no problem, wow, I'm sorry I didn't post at the orphanage! been busy with drama and whatnot)

Milo had to roll his eyes with a grin, she sounded so motherly already, a hyperactive one, but a mother nonetheless. Odd? Boy did he know that about people. And geeze, there was that feeling again, a feeling of familiarity, but not quite. Shrugging it off mentally Milo nodded to his guardians. “ok back quick. And ran off down the nearest alley. She should be around here somewhere.
After going down a few more alleyways and asking the odd rat if they’ve seen her about he arrived at her nest, well sort of, it was in the building but the entrance/exit led to this alleyway so she should hear him.
“Screech! Screech! Where you? He hissed crouching low to the ground and rummaged in the bins for her with no luck.

Streeeeetz! A shrill voice squeaked quite literally as a rodent form darted at top speed from the building and climbed up his trouser leg to sit on his right shoulder kissing his face affectionately before the boy could react. Laughing, he stroked her chin with his finger, which was grabbed by the rat’s little hands and licked enthusiastically.
Why Streeetz here? Streeetz not here light-sky. Streeetz here dark-sky. Why Streeetz here light-sky? The agouti rat chirped in supersonic rat-speak stopping the finger bath she gave the boy then tickled his ear with her whiskers by stuffing her head in his hat, ran to his other shoulder and back then diving down his top, her tail smacking Milo in the face before she turned around and climbed back out and perched herself on his left shoulder again cleaning her own face with her little hands.

“Been adopted. Milo replied leaning against the wall, folding his arms with a small smile, not sure if she had understood he added in rat. “Going away. Got family.
Screech hopped to his folded arms and looked up at him with her big black eyes that seem to well with tears.
Streeetz gone? Not here with Screeech? Screeech alone? Her voice was filled with emotion, her ears fell with despair. The bright-eyed, hyper rodent was sitting still, her little hands leaning on his chin, her black eyes gazing into his. Man, she can really make a guy feel guilty.

“No! Screech coming. Screech family too. Does Screech wanna come with Streetz? Before the sentence of squeaks had finished Screech had leapt for joy, kissed his cheek and dived down his body, head first, to her hole to probably tell her pack that she was leaving and in a second had ran back and was now happily perched back on his shoulder, making joyful chirping noises in supersonic sound.
Family have home where? She asked curiously.
“Don’t know-, travelling uh, gypsy family. He roughly translated, slipping back into rat, she understood some ‘human’ words and gypsy in rat really meant travelling. Sometimes she remembered that the ‘human’ word travelling meant that in rat, but she had a short attention span and it needed to be repeated several times before she would remember it or get bored.
Screeech gypsy rat! She squealed excitedly, which was an easy task to accomplish, and bounced about making Milo stand up and laugh.
“Screech hafta hide. He said firmly in ‘human’. Milo had made sure she knew her name spoken in ‘human’ and the word hide, making it easier in crowds to tell her if it’s safe to come out. Squeaking wasn’t really an option at times.
A disappointed ‘awww’ was given to the command, but she complied and climbed into a large pocket without too much of a fuss, the only problem being was that normal humans couldn’t hear supersonic sounds so Screech allowed herself to chatter away to Milo as he walked back to his guardians.

“Back. He said finding them, his hand in the pocket the rat was in to prevent her from peeking out as she would likely do out of curiosity and risk being seen, for that he received a few curse words that he would’ve be nipped for using in her presence.
Typical.

Tully had gotten into the slightest of problems. Of course, slight was just a regular understatement she used. By the time Milo arrived, they were standing casually, but not without some glaring directed towards the two women. Tully smiled and had just been about to speak, her mouth widening when a strange, foreign pressure squeezed her shoulder and spun her around, the hand leading to a burly man who looked about two times the size of Maeryn. He glared at her.

"I recognize you! Dirty filth," he hissed.

That comment didn't seem to even hurt or phaze Tully who just grinned.

"And what's THAT?" He asked, a finger jabbing roughly in Milo's direction.

Milo was just another way to bite at Tully and Maeryn. Just another way to egg them on. But Tully's grin faltered, and her years of masterful acting ability disappeared in a glimmer and with horror she looked at him. That? What in the world was he talking about? He wasn't talking about some... some object, but he was talking about a person, a boy. Flesh and blood!

"... That? There is no that! But a boy, as real as you or me," she ground out with ferocity.

"I refuse this fight, I refuse it! I wont touch you, not with my hands! I can't look at you, you sicken me, you're absolutely repulsive!" She shouted, her pupils slitting and her nails growing jagged.

Maeryn was there in an instant, she pushed Tully away and her fist thrust into the nose of the man, and kicked him sharply in the ankle as her knee raced and met his crotch with an impact that sent him howling and staggering, blood gushing from his nose in a delayed response as the purplish color rose along his face and he fell with a thud.

"Milo. This is the world you will live in now. It is our world, created by lies and facades. We are as real as anything but no more than actresses in our lives. We act our roles to the T. But this is us. Our days are expected to be full of conflict. But.. remember this. Regardless of that, you may be sure you always have a home. You always have a family and love with us. You wont be forgotten and you will never left behind. You will always be fought for. That is all we truly expect of you," Maeryn said, the longest she spoke in a long while and certainly to Milo. It seemed even apologetic.

Tully sighed and her shoulders sagged before the crowd erupted around them, and she grabbed Milo's shoulders and Maeryn ducked her head as they hustled onwards, pulling him into an alley and then into a network and then pushed him onto onto a side street, them following close behind. Maeryn paused and listened and ran a hand through her short hair, sharp blue eyes on Tully.

"You haven't done that in awhile," she spoke calmly to the shorter woman.

He felt the stares on them but refused to look, they were probably staring at his tail, something he was used to by now. He saw the burly man grab Tully and turn her around and went protectively to her side, glaring back at the bloke who promptly jabbed a finger at him. That? He looked behind him as if to say, surely you don’t mean me? His head whipped back to hear Tully’s defence and the boy held back a smile. Very few people would’ve stood up for him.

Tully was pushed into him suddenly after her rant, was her eyes always so slit? The sudden display of violence from Maeryn awed the boy, and he listened intently to her words.
With a serious expression he nodded.
“Accepted. He stated firmly, thick or thin a family stuck together and they were his family now, no way was he going back to the orphanage with his tail between his legs. He will adapt. “Str- I do same for Maeryn and Tully. He added soberly, thinking he would have to learn how to act now although he didn’t quite get that part.
Maybe like theatre people. They pretend being someone else. He mused then was quickly led away by his guardians.

Screech managed to poke her head out of the pocket and sniffed the air. She had missed something! Not fair! Although her poor eyesight couldn’t see what, she could smell the tension emitted from the humans. Two new scents were close by and the little rat rightly assumed they were their new family.
Family going on adventure! She chirped excitedly in supersonic rat speak, she would’ve climbed up onto Milo’s shoulder but being out in daylight didn’t appeal to her, so stayed fidgeting in his pocket, poking her head out often in curiosity.

Haven’t done what in a while? Get angry? Milo was confused, he would’ve got angry had someone grabbed him and insulted his family, the word still sent a tingly sensation in his heart, family, he could call someone that, but it was difficult seeing Tully angry, she just didn’t seem like the sort, maybe it had to do with that acting stuff they were on about before.

"What now?" He asked, he didn't want that angry man to find them, he might bring friends. Milo didn't mind going to another village, there was nothing he needed to do here.
