The night was still as the moon began to reach the peak of its climb in the sky above the capital of Connlaoth. Standing still on top of an old church, Fade watched the ground with her blank red eyes, observing... Listening. It was true, the capital was usually busy and filled with life, but up here everything was so much more quiet. Peaceful. The church Fade had been posted at was near the edge of the city, but even here the crowds merged in a large quantity, creating an odd shift on the ground far below her. Tonight was the night. Everything had lead up to this point.

Ever since Fade was a little girl, she had been trained, prepped, and educated for a mission like this. While her band of assassins shared little sympathy for either side of the war, the pay off for this job would be huge. And it would definitely help the freedom fighters in their efforts. Not that Fade cared really, but a job was a job. For weeks the group had been planning for this mission, but Fade had been preparing for years. She was finally being sent to face her own kind. The Mordecai.

"Fade! The caravan's coming!" The girl snapped her attention off the horizon and turned to the shadows of the rooftop. A taller man, dressed in a black cloak, adorned with various straps and buckles to hold his various weapons. He'd simply nod with his head, motioning for her to follow. Creeping under the shadows, the two would stand at the edge of the roof, observing the busy street far below. He'd motion with his hand down below... And she saw him. As the guards pushed aside the crowd, Fade's red gaze narrowed on the man in the front of caravan. Riding his horse was the Grand Mordecai, Artorias. Her target.

"They in position?" Fade would ask coldly, staring down at the caravan of Mordecai. "They should be by now. This will be quick and clean." He'd chuckle. "Well let's get started then." Fade would respond.

Near the caravan, two hooded figures stood, before looking upwards at the roof of the church. Fade would simply nod in their direction before disappearing. The two cloaked men would then fade into the crowd, holding something in the shadows of their cloaks. The first would speed walk through the crowd far in front of the caravan, before ducking into the doors of a small towered house. The second would do the same, but behind. Both of them would take out a large metal object and place it neatly at the base, before using some flint to light a small fire. The objects had tiny fuses on them, so it was quite obvious what their purpose served. All it took was a little spark...

Suddenly, out of no where a large explosion erupted in the crowd! Not far in front of the caravan, the base of a house would be covered in flames before the tower it was connected too creaked and ripped apart, falling into the middle of the street! Citizens ran and panicked before a second explosion appeared, this time behind. The same thing, a wooden tower fell onto the path. The street burst into a terrified panic, as all but a few were running. Coming out of the crowds on each side of the caravan, a large group of cloaked figures would silently push their way through until they stood on both sides. Before long each figure would open their cloaks to reveal various weapons. Until suddenly they all charged the caravan and the guards.

As the battle broke out, Fade was no where to be seen. Not until a shadow flew over the street and landed directly on top of the large wagon in its center. There in the firelight Fade stood, Vairu unsheathed. Her red gaze focused on Artorias... Within an instant, she dashed forwards and jumped off the wagon onto the street where the battle between the assassins and guards were taking place. A few trained their attention on Fade. A spear man yelled and lunged his weapon towards her. She elegantly sidestepped the blow, grabbing the shaft of the spear with her free hand, and causing the guard to stumble as she shoved the handle into his armor, making him let go. She then spun around, spotting the other guard's incoming assault seconds before. Her Katana ripped through his exposed neck, causing his blood to spill as Fade proceeded to jump onto the first one with the spear in hand, driving it straight into his neck as well. Before long she ducked and rolled underneath a blow. Parry, slash, sidestep, roll. The dance went on until Fade's bloody sword sang through the air, aiming straight for Artorias...

The caravan was immediately on alert, the soldiers guarding them springing into action and defending against their assailants with military precision. After all, these mordecai were a thoroughly trained unit. And even in the face of fire and being closed in, they fought valiantly.

Though, the enemy made a mistake. They attacked when Artorias was present.

And that was a factor that would decide the outcome of this battle. Complete annihilation on the side the mordecai grandmaster was up against.

The blade from the rather young assassin went towards Artorias throat. And- nothing, a loud clunk resounded as the giant of a man caught the blade. An assassin appeared behind him to stab him in the neck from behind. His fist closed around the blade and he grabbed the assailant behind him, before slamming his face down on Fade's blade.

Fade's arms would lock for a brief moment as her weapon was caught directly by her target... Something she wasn't expecting at all. No one had ever matched her speed before today. She simply held her ground staring at him wide eyed for a moment, until he began to deal with an Assassin who attempted to get him from behind.

"Eugh!" Fade would stagger a moment as he smashed his head on her blade, causing her to whip it backwards as two more Mordecai assaulted her. In the heat of battle, she'd duck under a sword swing, grabbing the man's arm and pulling it upwards with her free hand to parry another blow from his friend. As their weapons locked, she'd use her foot to deliver a hard kick in the exposed joint of the man's leg armor. he staggered for a moment, enough time to let Fade spin around and cut the back of the neck from the first man, and then turning her attention back to Artorias.

her blade would sing with precision, attempting to strike his leg. If that failed, her blows would pick up speed, aiming for various fatal blows.

Arnsgar be damned, Artorias wouldn't let his men be killed off like that.

As the young girl went for the neck of one of his subordinates, Artorias forced himself inbetween the two, taking the hit on his chestplate.

The blade for his leg would only slam against the metal plating. The mordecai grandmaster was clad in massive armour. And he hadn't even drawn his blade yet. Another assassin wen to shank him from the side, but instead, was aimed in a slam against Fate.

Codex

Fade's blade clanged hard against the Mordecai's armor as the grandmaster intercepted her strike against his man, and again the armor would prevent her sword from finding its mark. He was fast, faster then anyone she had faced before, maybe even herself. But how? That armor looked massive, and the being underneath must have been equal in size. She didn't have time to think about it however, her objective still stood. She needed to find the chink in his armor.

Suddenly, an assassin was sent flying towards her. Fade would elegantly sidestep the impact and then continue to run straight towards Artorias. Using her small frame, she'd use a broken wagon to gain some height before running her feet up his armor, planting a kick to his chin, ending with a backflip and landing on the stone again. She did this hoping he'd stagger, allowing the girl to witness what parts of his armor were exposed underneath. As soon as she found a place, she'd plant her sword in it...

Yet, even with her momentum, her small frame was too lithe to make him as much as stagger. But hitting him was even a difficulty as he stepped sideward, the steel gauntlet shooting up to grip around her ankle.

And if he got a hold, she'd be smacked into the nearest wagon, face-first.

Codex

Fade would feel the tight, cold grip of a metal claw wrap around her ankle for a moment, before the air rushed past her face. She'd be thrown straight into a wagon. The splinters cracked as the dust erupted around the impact. A few moments went by of silence, until Fade's shadow staggered out of the wreckage... Wiping blood from her nose as her blade was held out with her free hand. Her eyes were filled with vigor and flame... If there was one thing about this girl, is that she was tough. Breathing in slowly, he'd hold Vairu in front of her in a battle stance, her red gauntlets clinked as she gripped tighter. So... A head on approach wasn't the best way to fight him apparently. Breathing in, she'd take a quick look at her surroundings. The fire from the explosions had all but spread to engulf the surrounding buildings as well, as the battle raged on the street.

And that's when she saw an opportunity... Glaring at Artorias, she prepared for another go. The girl would begin running at him again, about to strike his arm when at the last second she ducked and rolled right between the man's legs! Behind him Fade would roll back to her feet, swinging her long blade at an unstable chain connected to one of the burning buildings. The chain had been holding up a massive net of heavy stone rocks used in construction. And it was directly over top of the Mordecai. If that didn't kill him, it would make him move enough for Fade to spot the weaker parts in his heavy armor.

Artorias wanted to pick the girl up as she rolled between his legs, but she gave him the slip. As the rocks came crashing down on him. He didn't seem to make any move to dodge, letting out a soft sigh.

And the rocks slammed down on him. But the sound wasn't of rocks denting metal. Rather of rocks cracking on rocks with a dry sound. Those rocks she tried to kill him with slowly crumbled past a massive, stone shield that seemed to sprout from his forearm. Completely unharmed.

Fade felt something that she hadn't felt for a long while... Shock. Who was this man? Sure she had heard he was probably the most skilled Mordecai in the order, but she couldn't have imagined he held THIS much power. Especially against Fade! She was a master assassin, and had taken down dozens of magic users, so why should someone who doesn't even have magic be any problem? She couldn't afford to lose this fight, not when so much balanced on it!

Gripping her sword tighter, Fade would breath heavily, preparing for another strike. However, there was an unusual sound behind her... Slowly turning to the source of the creaking, Fade witnessed the building behind her completely enveloped in flames! The supports were giving out as splintered wood cracked and sang through the air, and soon the entire building began tipping! Knowing she could afford to ignore Artorias for a few moments, She quickly turned and began sprinting to the side... A futile effort it would seem, as a large pillar of wood fell directly into her path, blocking the girl's escape. It was too late to jump over or roll under, as the building came tumbling down on top of her head...

All she saw was the burning flames, and then the silent dark...

Artorias glanced at Fade, who was looking up to him with the according amount of shock. Good, then she could at least comprehend how powerful he was. A beast forged for war, only born for conflict.

Artorias glanced down at Fade and slowly unsheathed his greatsword. A soft sheen across the flat blade, humming with a dull, grey energy. As the building came down on them, Artorias just walked foward. The building coming down ontop of him as well.

Several minutes later, Artorias trudged out from the collapsed buildings, shouldering Fade's lifeless body. She was still alive. And she could answer quite some questions for him. The other, surviving Mordecai joined him, some calming the horses, others tending to their wounded.

Fade would wake in a cell, chained up completely.

Codex

As light slowly returned to Fade's world, her red gaze slowly opened to a rather dim interior... Slowly staring at her surroundings, her situation soon became clear to her.. Feeling the cold grip of steel cuffs around her arms and ankles, chained to a stone wall behind her. She was still alive? How? Why? She clearly made herself a public enemy by attempting to assassinate a key figure in the Connlaothian military, not to mention killing a few Mordecai on the way...

She wore nothing but rags, but understandably her weapon was nowhere to be seen. Fade had no idea how to react to this situation. She had never been caught like this before. She'd never let this happen.., she was a failure...

She simply lowered her head and awaited execution.

"Such tenacity in the field," a cold and mighty voice stated. Artorias took a torch from thethe wall and drew up to her cell. The bloodsoaked armour sheening in response. On his shoulder was the massive greatsword, stained in a dark red hue. "You're the last survivor. All your surviving friends have been beheaded." He let out a soft snort.

"All of them were adults. But you. You're but a child. Explain yourself, assassin." It wasn't a question. It wasn't even a statement. It was a command.
