For a few moments, he was actually worried that he'd have to pin her down and cut her hair off. Honestly, he didn't want it to come to that, which may have seemed a bit odd considering what he did for a living. He made a living off of stealing and kidnapping, never asking his "employers" any questions--he simply took the money and did the job, simple. Runaway slaves, runaway wives, runaway prostitutes...it didn't matter. He'd heard all their weeped stories as they begged him not to return them to their former lives, but...he did it anyway. It was what he was paid to do; simple as that. Just a job. What happened after he'd done his job just wasn't his business.

So why the hell would he care about hacking someone's hair off without permission?

Eh...because he'd never, in all his line of work, had to actually hurt someone. That was the only type of job he wouldn't take, stuff that involved him actually physically hurting someone. Nah, cutting hair didn't hurt; but it could still be humiliating, and he wasn't trying to treat her like some sheep, shearing her and all. His job was to just keep her out of Adela. That was it. And sure, one could say that kidnapping someone was hurting them...er...probably more than cutting someone's hair. But in all those jobs he made sure not to get close to anyone, not to talk to any of his targets. He kept the whole thing coldly impersonal...like a delivery boy, you could say. Just delivering a package.

This whole plan, though? He'd be with her for a long time. There was no "delivering"--there was no way to keep it impersonal. Thus? Well, considering the scale of the whole thing, it was kind of important to stay on her good side, in an odd way. Even if he clearly wasn't at the moment. Oh well...she'd get over it...

For a few moments, it was like a stand-off. But then, finally, she huffed and turned her back to him, and he relaxed a little. Well...that had been easier than he'd anticipated.

Turning the dagger over in his hand to grip it by the handle, he wasted no time. Gathering her hair up in his free hand, he paused. "Thank you and...sorry about this."

...Even though he wasn't. He was just in a hurry, and he didn't want her to be all mopey.

That said, he began the process of sawing her hair off, doing his best to be gentle and yet quick. There was no time to make sure it was all even, and by the time he was, the edges were quite jagged and her hair was short enough to expose some of her neck. "Done," he announced, holding the thick hair he had just cut off and showing it to her, then looking about the alley for somewhere to dispose of it. "Sorry. Your hair's not very even now, but it helps the look, heh. You can even it out later..."

Drea cringed internally as she felt her hair being sawed through, fingers curling until her nails bit into her palms. Outwardly, though, she forced a straight face. 'It's just hair, it's just hair... It will grow back.' Sure, eventually.

She managed to mantain that flat expression, too. At least, she managed it until she took a look at the severed hair in his hand. At that, her face scrunched up a bit and she looked, just for a moment, ready to cry.

No, no... That wouldn't do. She didn't like to cry, especially not in front of a near-stranger. Besides, tears on dirty faces looked terrible!

With a small, unhappy little sigh, she reached a hand back to finger some of the uneven curls against the back of her neck. Geez, it really was short... She didn't recall ever having her hair this short before! "Now, would you like to cut off a finger or two, just to be really certain no one recognizes me?" she asked sulkishly. "Or can we go now?"
