Sakki had made a sappy mess of the branch before Hatame spoke again. She tried to ignore him, grinding noisely on the wood with draconic teeth. Sorry sorry sorry...well, it wasn't good enough for the crap he put her through!
Ugh!
Then what the hell was it she wanted from him anyway?? Gah, this was so damn annoying!
Crap, she was annoying herself now!

She stopped for a moment, hearing something that genuinely caught her attention. Sorry...for hurting her? But...
Blinking, she glanced down at him through the branches. What sort of impression was she giving off? He hadn't hurt her...just upset her...
Damn.
She must be confusing the hell out of the poor guy. And she...she didn't really want to do that. She was just angry...at alot of things. Maybe Hatame had just set them off...
It wasn't really all his fault...

Without much warning, Sakkata lept from the tree and landed softly beside Hatame. She had managed to keep the jacket from fluttering too much. She stood to the side, watching him from the corners of her eyes. She didn't look angry at all anymore.
"Well, you are a jerk sometimes, I won't argue with that." She mused at first, before continuing with the more important matters.
"You didn't hurt me Hatame, just ticked me off. I guess the frustration of everything that's happened was triggered by your prank...I wasn't really that mad at you, just htings in general."
She sighed, shutting her eyes for a moment.
"Thank you for apologizing Hatame. And...if you still don't mind, I would like to go flying sometime. Really."

Of course, she wanted some clothing before she tried that little activity out.

Rhindeer

Sakkata was quiet, and Hatame was growing even more fidgety. Erk. Maybe this was one of those times when he should just keep his mouth shut? Yeahh..seemed like one of those times. Seemed like everything he was saying was just going to anger her more, so, for now, perhaps it was a good idea to just withdraw andâ€"

Hatame actually jumped when she suddenly landed down next to him, and for a moment he thought he'd blown it yet again, said the wrong things or something. Which, of course, wasn't intended, but he did have a knack for that! Yes, she was confusing the hell out of him, but...hey, what was new? He'd experienced her many sudden mood-swings time and time again, though, of course, that didn't make them any more expected.

Speaking of sudden mood-swings...as he glanced cautiously over at her, he noticed she no longer looked angry at all, and her next words reinforced that.

Relief visibly flooded through him at her words, and he gave a nod of understanding. Yeah...he could certainly understand being angry, and she had every right to be angry after what had happened. Hell, it had only been yesterday that...well...everything happened. Everything was still fresh, even to him, and as for Sakkata...

She seemed like she was holding everything in...and she'd been through a hell of a lot more in those few days than he had in his entire life.

"You know...you don't have to hold everything in like that, Sakki..." he told her after she had finished, and trailed off himself. No...he didn't want to push the issue. Everyone dealt with their hardships differently, after all, and besides, he didn't exactly know what he meant to begin with. Just that...well, yeah, it bothered him to see someone hurt or angry or both; no one should have to feel alone in their suffering, like they had no one to turn to. He knew that feeling all too well. But, his kind were also more social; Drygans seemed more solitary. It was probably a lot harder than Sakkata let on...

He quickly switched subjects. "Thanks for accepting my apology. And I'd gladly take you flying, Sakki. Anytime ya want. Well...when I figure out how to do it again, of course..."

Sakkata listened to his words and mulled over them slowly. Hold everything in...? That's what she was doing, wasn't it. And Hatame was right, Drygans were very solitary. But not by choice. There just....weren't enough of them. Maybe that was why Sakkata didn't leave Hatame, even when he was being unbarebly annoying. She valued the company too much, the attention. Neither were things she got much of. If only there were more of her kind, then maybe...
Maybe she wouldn't hold it in and hurt herself...

She gave a small half laugh at his last statement. What an interesting visual that produced...she couldn't wait for him to try again. She'd probably get a kick out of it.
But the humor didn't break the mood, not yet. She still couldn't stop thinking about the first thing he had said.
Holding it in...

Leaning against the large tree, Sakkata hung her head, white bangs hiding her eyes from view. Was she...crying? Again? Damn... Why was she crying...?
She tried to blink them away, but one or two escaped to run away down her blue cheeks.
Suddenly, slender fingers had clasped onto Hatame's sleeve. It wasn't a death grip by any means, just a simple hold of the fabric.
She would be ok...she was fine...
It was all over...
She was fine...
And he was right here...

Sakkata took a few deep breaths, trying to stop the burning in her eyes that signaled more tears. Her fingers convulsed a bit on Hatame's sleeve, her other hand hanging limp at her side.
She would be fine...

Rhindeer

She was crying. Even with her head hung and hair shielding her eyes, he could tell she was; her sudden long silence, the few fugitive tears that trailed down her cheeks, and her sudden change in body posture easily gave her away to someone who had grown up learning to read body language among a species in which it was used as a part of everyday communication.

She was holding everything in...he had known it. And it seemed like she knew it, too. But, then, it was pretty obvious. Her, acting so calm only the day after everything went all to hell...it was way too soon for that act to be genuine; she was always putting up a tough front, only this time it was failing, crumbling at a touch as she fluctuated between emotions. And the way in which she suddenly clasped onto his sleeve reminded him suddenly of the way in which she had gripped his pant-leg only the day before...once again, just like she needed something to hold onto...

Hatame might have before felt awkward and confused as to how to act around her, given her rapidly changing moods, but for this situation, at least, he was less lost as to what to do. She needed support and comfort, and he was more than willing to give it to her as best as he was able. Anything to make her feel better, if only a little. He may be a jerk at times, and annoying, but he really would do anything for her that he could. And for all his playful perviness, he never would hurt her, and even now, sparsely dressed as she was, he hardly even noticed that fact. Or, rather, he did but didn't care. It didn't matter.

Her fingers convulsed a little on his sleeve as she breathed deeply to try and stop the tears, and Hatame wordlessly shifted closer to her and wrapped his arms around her in a comforting embrace, drawing her close just as before. "You're gonna be okay, Sakkata..." he told her quietly, simply holding her, though he did raise his hand to brush her bangs back from her face. "It's okay to cry...you don't have to hide around me." But, then, that was easy for him to say, he realized...

He just wished there was a way to ease the pain she was feeling.

She stopped for a moment as she was embraced, but it was what she needed. She just needed to be held...
Sakkata clung to him, teeth clenched as she battled with the raging emotions within her. Unwanted tears were spilling over onto her cheeks, and she was unable to curb the flow. Hatame's words just made so much sense...

"Dammit..." She sobbed and just stopped trying. She let the tears fall unhindered, shoulders quivering as she cried. It was so odd...to let someone see her emotions so openly. It was a safeguard to keep her emotions hidden, a way to protect the delicate insides she held. But...here she was, crying on Hatame again. Being comforted...
"I hate crying..." She mumbled, face buried into his chest, both eyes closed as the tears ran. She hated it because it made her feel vulnerable, weak. And, in a way, it reminded her that she was an emotional woman. Not something she permitited herself to feel like very often.
Maybe it was all because of the fact she was a Drygan...

Screw it. It didn't matter. She was Sakkata, the Chosen. Her species shouldn't matter so much, however lonely it made her. Hatame was some poor, confused gryphon who had a perverted streak a mile long, and here he was comforting her. None of her own would ever do that. Nobody would ever do that, really.
Then again, Hatame was definately not your ordinary being.

Sakkata sighed and hugged him a bit tighter, the flood of tears finally ebbing away. The hurt that plagued her was slowly numbing, throbbing dully in the backdrop. It would take awhile for her to completely get over it, if she ever did. But...maybe so long as Hatame was around, she'd be able to deal with it.
She hoped...

Rhindeer

He was quiet as she cried, one hand rubbing her back softly and slowly as she clung to him and he communicated his support and concern for her nonverbally. Some things just couldn't be accurately or effectively voiced, and this was just another one of those many things Hatame had no words for. But, it didn't even seem like words were needed to begin with; the message go through well enough. Or, so he hoped. He'd do his best to just...be there for her. And if she ever needed a shoulder to cry on, well, he had two. He didn't mind. He just...wanted to see her happy again. One day.

Just as Sakkata had forged a bond with him, so had he formed a bond with her. It was an unusual thing, considering how their relationship usually was, but...it was there nonetheless. And such bonds ran surprisingly deep, and were scarcely broken. Loyalty lasted for life.

Though, then again, maybe it wasn't so odd. Sure, they were polar opposites in nearly every respect, but didn't they say opposites attracted? Whoever they were to begin with. Whoever had come up with that theory might well have observed Hatame and Sakkata's dysfunctional friendship, though it actually functioned quite well for a pair that was constantly fluctuating from violence to tender moments. It was odd. Very odd. But proof enough for that theory. Odd how it worked...and needless to say, he was grateful for life's little oddities.

The silence was broken, though, when Sakkata mumbled something, her tears coming freely now and once more dampening his shirt. "Yeah, I know, it sucks..." He hugged her closer as she cried, her face buried in his chest as he held her securely but gently against him, his own green eyes closed. "But..you know...there's nothing wrong with it...nothing at all. It's nothing to be ashamed of, Sakkata. It helps." But he knew it was hard for her. She wasn't the type to easily show her emotions, as he had well learned. And wasn't crying the ultimate act of revealing deep inner pain? It must really be awkward...

He just hoped she knew she really didn't have to feel that way around him.

Well, at least, not where it wasn't intended.

Sakkata took a few sniffing breaths, finally relaxing a bit in Hatame's arms. It was a short, violent cry, but it was helpful none the less. Arms wrapped around Hatame as much as his were around her, she clenched her fingers into the fabric of his shirt.
Deep breaths Sakkata...

She turned her head to the side then, able to hear his heartbeat and steady breathing. Her hair was still down, never having been returned to it's original braided state. The thick white waves fell alittle below her waist. She would have to deal with it soon...

Both eyes shut at his words, and she nodded weakly. "Thank you Hatame..." She said softly, letting her eyes open partially yet again.
"I think I soaked your shirt again..."
A small grin managed to appear, though the fresh pain still throbbed in her heart.

Rhindeer

Eyes opening to gaze down at her as she spoke, he smiled softly. "Anytime, Sakkata," he told her genuinely before he gave a small chuckle at her comment. Indeed, the front of his shirt was quite wet where she'd sobbed against him, as the fabric wasn't the all that thick, but he didn't mind it. He'd hardly noticed. He just didn't like to see her hurting and was just...well, happy that Sakkata felt comfortable enough around him, even after all his pranks and everything that had happened to her, to be able to open up enough to allow herself to be comforted by him. To trust him.

Yet, it also didn't surprise him. After all, he'd found out just how much she trusted him the day before. Well, okay, maybe there was still some surprise there, considering not minutes ago he'd played a pretty...er...jerk-ish trick on her, but...ah, whatever! He wasn't going to analyze it! All that mattered was the here and now.

And he was glad to see that small grin on Sakkata's face, even though the pain was still clearly there. But...that would take a while to heal. Even then, it would still probably leave a scar. He couldn't imagine it not. But hopefully it would dull with time, and maybe even fade a little, and, in the meantime, he'd be there. And after, too.

He gave a small grin of his own. "Yeah...but it saves me the trouble of having to wash it myself," he teased gently.

(Oo... *cringes at post...tries to make it better...much shame!*)

Sakkata laughed, if not a bit hoarsely, at his remark. She shook her head as much as she was able to still all pressed to Hatame as she was. "Oh Hatame...never change..." She chuckled softly again, but her comment was odd. She realized it was. There was no 'you' in 'never change'. Had she really just told him not to change?
Great, she'd just signed herself on for another term of annoyance...
And still she grinned.

Finally, feeling a bit embarassed yet again for hugging on Hatame like she was, Sakkata dislodged herself from him and took a step backward. One hand dashed away the remnants of her tears, and she took another soothing breath. Her hair was really starting to fall into her face, and she knew it would get knots galore if she didn't rebraid it soon.
"This is sort of, ah, odd but...could you...well, could you help me put all this hair back into a braid? It's a real pain when it's down..."
She'd never actually asked anyone for help with her hair before. She usually muddled by ok on her own, keeping it in that braid as much as hygenically possible. When she could no longer keep it clean with a bit of well-placed magick, she'd let it down and wash it. Then, the hours long process of brushing and braiding it all would take place.

What compelled her to ask...well...she didn't really know. But she had asked, and it would be much easier if he did help...

Rhindeer

Never...change? Had she really just said that? Of course, Hatame was who he was and couldn't change even if he wanted toâ€"though he was working on being a bit more gentle with Sakkata; some small changes couldn't hurt and could only help, and these last few days had effected them all, and it was all still so freshâ€"but the statement still shocked him, and he blinked a few times down at her grinning form. Heh. She was saying that now, at least. She'd probably kick herself later for blurting that, he imagined with amusement. Or, more likely...kick him.

Oh man. Yeah, she confused the hell out of him all the time, but that was her, and that was why he loved her, mood-swings and all. "You too, Sakki," he told her with a chuckle. He couldn't imagine her any other way.

Releasing his hold on her as the embrace was broken, he was surprised yet again by her following awkward request. He'd thought he could never be surprised again by anything after everything, but...apparently he had been very wrong in his assumption, as Sakkata had managed to do so at least two times in the past few minutes. But, he should have known better; this was Sakkata, after all.

And he had nothing whatsoever against helping her out. "Yeah, no problem." That would be a pain to do on your own. That was a lot of hair! His own hair was pretty long, well, for a male, and reached only halfway down his back, but it was annoying at times, though he never had to worry about sitting on it as Sakkata might. Hers went past her waist; how did she even manage to braid it on her own to begin with? And the tangles must be a nightmare...he knew his could get bad, but he'd never really thought about cutting it. Might be practical, but he was a Gryphon and still had something of their habits, and Gryphons never snipped their fur orâ€"

And why was he even thinking about that right now?

Walking around to stand behind Sakkata, he carefully began gathering her hair all together in the back, lightly brushing stray strands of long white hair off of her face and neck and finding her hair surprisingly soft. "Tell me if I hurt you," he said, being as gentle and light in his touch as humanly possible but still not wanting to accidentally pull her hair. They obviously had no combs or anything on them that he was aware of, and her hair was a bit tangled, so he just had to make due with teasing the tangles out carefully with his fingers.

And, well...he couldn't say he'd ever, ah...brushed someone else's hair. Or even messed with someone else's hair. He'd never even thought about it before. It was actually pretty cool...if for some reason oddly awkward. He wasn't quite sure why he should feel awkwardâ€"it was such a rare feeling for himâ€"but right now, brushing out Sakkata's hair, he did kind of feel that way...though it was a weird, different kind of awkward that wasn't really awkward but...was. Whatever that meant. He was just confusing himself, now. And, even more, it wasn't a bad feeling, which was even stranger. Whatever the case, it wasn't just because he was afraid of yanking on a knot, but...

He mentally told his psyche to shut up.

"Man, how did you ever do it on your own? I never realized how much hair you had..." he asked as he worked, more just as to have something to say.

She had realized, as soon as she had asked, that Hatame would not decline. She just knew. Perhaps she was getting to know him a bit too well...
If they started finishing each other's sentences, then she'd know for sure.

Sakkata felt a bit awkward and nervous, though she thought it a stupid reason to be so. He was just going to help with her hair, why was it embarassing at all....?
Maybe because she'd never gotten help with it before. Hair was precious to Drygans, as had been made obvious. It was a direct relation to your power, showing exactly how much you had. To have it cut was a grave punishment, saved for only the worst criminals, and it took years upon years to grow back a second time. Drygans never cut their hair willingly.

And since Sakkata was the Chosen, her hair was most precious of all. Nobody dared to touch it. And she never dared to let anybody. It was like some unsaid law, that no one was to touch her hair aside from her. Ever.
So, nobody did.
Her shoulders hunched a bit with a chill that ran down her spine, a result of his fingers brushing the hair away from her neck. Ack ack ack...
That felt....oddly good...
Maybe it was the same sensation for a dog...?
Ah, that was a weird thought!

Sakkata chuckled lightly at his words, though was moved by the fact he was afraid he might hurt her. Not that she'd let him know that.
"Thanks, I think I can handle it." She answered, but with a surprisingly low amount of her usual attitude.
In any case, having her hair brushed out (even though it was Hatame's fingers and not a real brush) by someone else felt really good. She hadn't known what she had been missing.
Not that she'd make a habit of this if she could help it...
Closing up again Sakkata? No, of course not...
Yeah, right.

Wrapping her arms around her waist, as she had realized she really couldn't help Hatame at the moment, she listened to his words with renewed, pointy ears.
"It looks like alot less when it's in the braid. And it's a total pain in the ass. Usually takes me hours to get it all straightened out by myself. Um...would you rather sit down? It will still take awhile..."
She didn't mind sitting, and actually would prefere doing so. Standing for hours was never pleasent...
Well, she hoped it didn't take hours, since she didn't want to put Hatame through that.
It really was a pain...

Rhindeer

Indeed, Hatame soon found out that this was no quick process. It might have been quicker with a brush, but even then, Sakkata had a lot of hair, and he could easily see how it could take the hours she said it did. Especially doing it on her own. Having only his hands to disentangle her hair with, it was a bit more difficult, and he had to be a lot more cautious not to snag a knot. But, lucky for Sakkata, Hatame was a Gryphon, and one of their lesser known qualities was the ability to be amazingly gentle.

To some, it might be a surprising quality. After all, Gryphons were equipped with some pretty lethal parts: claws, talons, a sharp, hooked beak that could easily crush and sever bone. But, if you thought about it, it only made sense. Because of the way they were built, they had to take a lot of precautions, learn a lot of self control, and know their own strength inside and out so as not to inadvertantly injure themselves or others. They generally learned very early on about the importance of knowing their own strength; even gryphlets, cuddly as they were, had a beak that could easily chomp down to the bone.

Even as a human, even if he unwittingly identified with his human side more now, this trait carried over. It didn't ease his concerns or level of concentration, though; the last thing he wanted to do was tear out a clump of her hair, even with her reassurance. And he knew how important hair was to Drygans. As for all the connotations and specifics...well, all he really knew was the the more white, the more power, that the Chosenâ€"Sakkataâ€"was the only one with pure white hair, and that "control"â€"well, nevermind that thought, not a good thought to remember. That was about it. He didn't know power was lost with cutting it...nor did he have any idea that Sakkata had never let anyone else touch her hair.

If he had known that...it might have thrown him for a bit of a loop.

Hatame listened as Sakkata spoke, and then nodded, even though she couldn't see him, at her question. That was true...it would likely be a while. He wasn't even yet halfway done. "Ah, good point. Still got a ways to go here...not that I mind!" he added quickly. He was actually finding it quite fun, really, even with that strange awkwardness that triggered an uncharateristic level of quietness in him. But that could easily be mistaken as concentration. Maybe.

Well, maybe to someone who didn't know him, and didn't know how gabby he was.

Letting go of her hair, he settled down on the groundâ€"hey, here was as good as anywhere else in this areaâ€"and waited for her to seat herself before he went back to carefully taming her hair. "So...have any preferences with the braid style?" he asked at length, starting to work her hair into smaller, individual sections that would be easier to manage. He continued on seriously, "Well, you have some choices here! We've got your standard braid, regular braid, and...normal braid. Hard decision, huh? Take you time. You've got plenty of it."

Hey, he was no beautician! But anyone knew how to at least braid. Even him. As for the complicated stuff he'd seen some people wear...forget about it.

Sakkata was severely unacustomed to all of this. The gentleness, the quiet, and the fact she was letting someone touch her hair willingly for the first time. It was all very new, and very odd. And so, she was very uncomfortable.
But it wasn't as though it was a bad experiance. It was just that...well...a life-long habit of no hair-touching was now being broken.

As Hatame agreed and settled down, she glanced back at him, unable to mask the look of slight unease she felt. She turned back around quick enough though, and sat down as well, trying to figure out how to sit in the coat comfortably and yet without flashing anything.
Just in case someone appeared suddenly, she didn't want to have her legs open or anything.
She finally had to pull her legs to the side a bit, keeping her knees closed. Not the most comfortable position, but it worked. Her long tail curled around the other side of her, out of Hatame's way.

A laugh broke free at his comment, head shaking slightly so as not to interrupt the brushing process. "Now that's a hard choice Hatame." She humored him, smirking with amusement. What a goof-ball...
"I guess I'll just have to go with the....normal braid. Now, don't strain yourself Hatame. No need for you to get hurt trying such a tricky hairstyle."
She just couldn't help it. She had to add to the joke. It had just been a bit too quiet and uncomfortable earlier. She was grateful for the levity of the situation now.

Rhindeer

"Aw, jeez, you just had to choose the most difficult one, didn't you? You're always so difficult...Gods Sakkata," he bantered back, still teasingly deadpan as he tackled the tangles. "If I pull a muscle here, it's all your fault." It certainly was a nice relief to have something to talk about right now, weird as the topic was; he'd caught that look of unease from Sakkata when she'd glanced back at him, which made two oddly nervous people for whatever reason they had. Really odd. He'd never been nervous around Sakkata. Ever. He was never nervous around anyone. Why now? It made no sense! And he'd never seen Sakkata nervous. Embarrassed, yes, many times. Nervous, no. What was with this? He was only fixing her hair...

He had no reason to feel awkward. She didn't either, he didn't think. Well, escept she was kinda almost naked and stuff, but then they'd been hugging all over each other with no problem. Weird, weird, weird.

Hair divided up into smaller sections, the job became a lot easier and went along a bit quicker. And besides...from what he could see of how Sakkata was sitting, she didn't look all to comfortable, legs all twisted to the side while he had all the blessed, pants-wearing comforts of sitting indian-style. But, you couldn't really sit in a comfortable position wearing only a jacket and be modest. Anyway, he didn't want her legs to get all cramped up or anything.

Before too much longer, without compromising any gentleness for speed, he finally finished the long ordeal of combing out her hair. Gathering her hair back together again and straightening it out, he then split her hair into three sections and began part two of Operation: Grooming. Carefully, after smoothing out the hair yet again, he began the process of weaving the long sections together and was sure to make the weave firm enough so as not to fall out or get messed up but not tight to the point where it would pull at her scalp and give her a headache or anything. Her braid had always looked so precise and neat. He doubted he would have the same luck, but, hey, he'd try his best.

And he found he was really quite enjoying this part the most, awkward or not.

"Heheh, you're gonna have to let me do this more often, you know, Sakki. Never knew what I was missing..." he said as he braided his way down her hair. Maybe it was because it wasn't his hair, or maybe it was just because, more specifically, it was Sakkata's hair, which was long and soft and fun. He didn't know. But playing with someone else's hair was just...fun...and he randomly found himself flirting with the idea of putting her hair up in those funny high pigtails he'd seen some villagers wear. She had so much hair...there were just so many possibilities! Human hair (or humanoid hair) was just so neat! Not when it was your own, really, but wasn't that how it worked with pretty much anything?

Luckily, the pigtail idea was put off for now as he was trying to be good, and he had nothing to tie them up with, anyway.

Wait...speaking of which...

"Hey...do you have anything to tie it with?" Erk, stupid question. Of course she didn't

Sakkata laughed at his ridiculous antics, shaking her head very gently. It was so stupid...but so funny anyway. It helped to break her nervousness, which was good, because she hated being nervous almost as much as she hated to be embarassed.
And she HATED being embarassed.
No wonder she reacted so violently to Hatame, eh?

She managed to sit patiently through the combing out, if not uncomfortably. But she'd dealt with severe discomfort before, so she'd manage. Having someone else mess with her hair for a change was not only much easier, but it actually felt kinda...good. Maybe it was simply because she had never let anyone else groom her hair before...
Did other people think it felt good to let someone brush and braid their hair? She had never really thought to ask anyone...
Oh what the hell was she thinking about? This was stupid...
He was just brushing and braiding her hair for her. She had asked him to, it wasn't a big deal...

He wanted to do this more often?? Amber eyes blinked rapidly, and she tried to turn around a bit but thought better of it. "Er..." Well...how was she supposed to explain this? It was akward for her for a very good reason...
Maybe she should tell him why? It wasn't anything he was doing per say...
Ugh.
"Um...maybe..." She shifted lightly, moving her legs a bit to try and get a bit more comfortable, but to no avail.
"This is the first time anyone aside from myself has ever touched my hair with permission. Ever."
There, it was out. Maybe now he'd realize why she was so uncomfortable.
And she still didn't know why she had asked him to do this in the first place...

(Oh good god that was crap. *cringe* sorry x_X)

Hatame was nearly finished with the braid when Sakkata shifted and made some sound of hesitation. One would have had to be completely daft not to have noticed the discomfort that radiated off of her, and he found his progress slowing for a moment as Sakkata searched for words and he listened in. Something he said seemed to have thrown her out of whack, though that in itself was no surprise...except that this time he hadn't meant to say anything that would embarrass her. Heck, right now he was trying not to embarrass her for a change! He wondered what it was that had done the trick. Oh, wait...his comment about doing her hair again...

And it soon became obvious why as she finally offered up an explanation.

And then it was Hatame's turn to blink his green eyes rapidly, pausing completely in mid-braid as he stared ahead at her.

"It...is?" he asked slowly, and oddly enough his own sense of awkwardness increased right then. He felt a twinge of sudden annoyance at that odd emotion, and tried to shove it back. He was only braiding her hair. She'd asked him to. So he was. Only fixing her hair. Why the hell should he feel...odd...about it? So he was the first person she'd allowed to touch her hair...it wasn't a big deal. Really.

No, it was. Sakkata was acting odd enough about it to let him know it wasn't just some small little favor. Well, yes, it was! It was just a small favor! It just wasn't a favor she was used to asking of people! That was all! And it wasn't a favor he was used to performingâ€"crap, that sounded wrong...and he wasn't even trying to sound wrong, not even in his own head, not right now, at least.

Thank Gods that was all confined to his own mind. And why was he suddenly so bloody nervous?! This wasn't a big deal and certainly not something to get all weirded out over. This was just...silly.

Still, he swallowed slightly. "Wow...well...ah...you're the first person who's hair I've played with. Ever. Well, aside from my own of course, but, er, that doesn't count, I mean other people and...stuff..." His voice trailed off to a mumble toward the end as he began braiding again, a bit quicker than before though he wasn't aware of that.

Leave it to him to get tongue-tied not when he was actually throwing out sexual innuendos or hugging on someone, but when he was just doing someone's hair! Jeez, what was wrong with him...and what was he tongue-tied over to begin with, anyway?!

Soon enough, he had finally completed the task of braiding Sakata's hair and, once that was done, he haphazardly went about making her a little makeshift tie. A small part of his shirt was torn, a little thin strip of cloth, and he used that to tie off the end of her braid. It was no big deal...he needed to get new clothes, anyway, as these ones were pretty thrashed from days of travel and then, well, everything that had happened.

No big deal...

"There! Done! Hope it's okay. First time doing that..."

Sakkata had never thought Hatame would get nervous over something as simple as braiding her hair. He didn't seem to get flustered over anything as far as she knew. It was just her hair!
Man, now they were both nervous and uncomfortable and neither of them really knew why...

His response quickly became mumbled and trailed off. Amazing...he was actually tongue-tied! Oh man, had hell frozen over? This was crazy...maybe they shouldn't try doing this again...
Waaay weird.

She heard him pull the bit of fabric from his shirt, and waited for him to tie off her braid. One slender hand came around to feel at it, just to see how well it had been done. Well, for his first try, that was a pretty damn good braid.
Her hand lowered, and she sat in silence for a moment.
Finally, she cleared her throat.
"Why was that so damn weird?"
She ventured, glancing back at him with amber eyes.

"Um, I dunno..." That was a good question. They'd both been acting weird and all over something they really shouldn't have been acting weird over. Well, he could kinda understand Sakki being nervous and awkward, because she was just so easily embarrassed like that, but as for himself...he never felt that way, ever, and...it was just weird. Too weird. And it wasn't a bad feeling, not at all, but it was so damned foreign, strange, and completely out of the blue that it was driving him nuts, especially since he couldn't place a finger on the source of the feeling. Well...yeah...doing her hair triggered it. Duh. But...why? Of all bloody things. And what did it mean? And...maybe he was overanalyzing again.

Uh...it was probably just because he'd never done it before, and he hadn't wanted to hurt her. Yeah. So he was just being extra careful. Erm...yeah. Made sense. Maybe. And she'd never let anyone else touch her hair. That might've had something to do with it. For some reason. Maybe because she was wearing hardly anything? No...made no sense, it hadn't bothered him before. Well, yeah, of course that hadn't bothered him, he wasn't gonna complain about her walking around in barely anything, but...that was completely beside the point!

Agh, he didn't know!

"Had no reason to be weird...aasn't a bad weird, though," he added, scratching the back of his neck thoughtfully, looking ahead at her with an obviously perplexed expression. "I don't think."

Maybe it was because he wasn't used to doing things for her, so her request surprised him? No...still didn't make sense... "Erm, so...is the braid okay?" Changing the subject!

She sighed and shook her head, unable to puzzle it out anymore than he. For now she was going to blame it on the fact she had never willingly let anyone touch her hair before.
Yeah, that was it.
Well, for now anyway.

Uncomfortable as hell, Sakkata stood, a bit unsteady at first since her damanble legs had begun to fall asleep from sitting in that odd position for so long. That long tail of hers whipped out, balancing her with little effort. She took a few steps away from his sitting form before turning to face him, still a bit embarassed wearing nothing but his stupid jacket.
"For your first braid, it's pretty good." She offered, feeling at it again. He'd done pretty damn well, really.
Maybe, if next time wasn't so awkward, she really would have him do this again.
Er...maybe...

She sighed softly, crossing her arms over her stomach. "I suppose...well, I guess you can mess with my hair again some other time...If you want..."
Aaack, was she crazy? After all that weirdness, she was going to let him try that again??
Oh man...
Maybe she wasn't as alright as she thought she was?

And, once again, Hatame was left blinking rapidly at her response. Wait, wait, wait...did he miss something here? Sakkata had been completely weirded out, he'd been weirded out, and yet...and yet she agreed to let him do it again? Not that he minded! He didn't, even despite it all; hell, he'd even had fun, he'd never realized that playing with someone's hair could be so...entertaining, for lack of a better word. He was just...gyahhh! This was weird. He was confused. And he still didn't know why.

What was wrong with him?

Maybe it was just the location. Yeah. The mountains were kinda high, and the air was thinner up here. Maybe it was starting to get to their heads. Lack of oxygen. Yep. That was as good of an excuse as any. It could do strange things to your brain.

No, wait...argh. He was a bloody Gryphon! Height and thinner air didn't bother him! He had no excuse! Well, maybe he did since he'd been human now long enough to call himself that, and he hadn't been in a really high up place since becoming a human until recently, so maybe he'd have to get acclimated to thin air all over again. That would bite. But he didn't feel at all light-headed or bothered by the acclimation, so...again that theory fell apart.

Yeah, it was about time to just do what he was good at and stop thinking.

Climbing to his feet and brushing dust off his pants that wasn't there, just to give him something to do, he gave a soft, almost nervous laugh. "Heh...ever get the feelin' you're going crazy?" he mused randomly, then shook his head quickly after. He didn't even really know what he meant...which perhaps only reinforced that musing. "Erm, nevermind! Yeah, I'd do your hair again." He was still surprised she would allow that. And that he was the only one she'd let touch her hair. That still amazed him, for some reason. "And ya gotta let me try out new styles, too! When I figure them out, that is...you'll be safe for a while in that area..."
