This wasn't what he would consider a normal hunting expedition.  As a matter of fact, it was far from it.  What he hunted for now was not a creature of legend or a monster terrorizing a village, but rather something far smaller and a lot less life threatening.  Or so he assumed.  It was seemed partly important enough that had him traveling this far away from his home in Connlaoth.  He would never travel so far unless he had great motivation to do so.  In any event, he would find this so called M'Derax Amulet, no matter what the cost.  It was unknown as to what exactly this artifact was but it was certain to be something of great value.  Or so the old woman claimed when she bade him to retrieve it for her.

Because he never did anything for anybody without equitable compensation, Venaede had been unsure if the elderly lady was capable of paying him back.  He had significant doubts about the woman's claims that the amulet was an old family heirloom that was locked away in some ancient tomb.  Hm, well, that made things all the more interesting as he figured he would definitely be able to bash some heads along the way.  Anything that might trigger his violent response was bound to get their head cleaved in two.  And aside from vampires, Venaede couldn't stand the undead.

These mountains were an unusual set of terrain and if he wasn't dodging smaller beasts, he was avoiding the natives hidden in the caves.  Because it seemed he hadn't been here in ages, he didn't know what he could find.

Natives weren't the only things hiding in the caves.  Although, Amara wasn't exactly hiding.  She'd been sleeping, having decided to take a break after hiking this far into the mountains.  And she wasn't pleased at being up here, but sometimes she just had to back off, and let things in town cool off.  It wasn't the first time someone had tried to hunt her down after figuring out that she wasn't exactly alive.

And she was probably going to be spotted soon, with the way she was sitting just at the very edge of the cave.  She was trying to spot whatever had woken her up earlier.

((OOC:  Oh god, I suck.  Sorry for the delay, and the shortness, Lion.))

If he trusted his instincts, much like he always did, he knew that he could catch a glimpse of the smallest details that would miss the scrutiny of most.  Venaede was sure he was unparalleled in his intelligence where as certain beasts were surely capable of tearing him limb from limb, he could outthink them on most occasions.  Most creatures of hell relied upon sheer instinct to drive them to destroy their prey, but for the vampire hunter, his brain was the only other tool he needed to destroy his prey, the ax-whip just being the device to carry out the desired action.

As Venaede kept walking though, something didn't quite feel right.  He was nearing the tomb to be sure and wasn't thinking that he might have to hunt this night.  But again his instincts had never been wrong.  He could almost smell something was not right here.  Along the mountain pass there were several crater-like holes that were embedded into the surface of the mountainsides.

Venaede brandished the shaft of his weapon, gripping the handle in uncertain and caution.  At one of the higher crater-like holes was a cave, and by the light of the moon, he saw something fleshy shimmer off before receding back into blackness.  He stayed closed to the side upon seeing this and steady began his climb up the rocks that jutted out.  "Is there anybody there?" he called out in a decidedly calm voice.
