Title: New location: Fell!
Post by: Rhindeer on October 10, 2010, 02:30:17 PM
Yeeep, we has a new location, playing off of some of the history shared between Serendipity and Connlaoth. :3

The location? Fell (//http://spiritsoftheearth.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=214)! And it's the cursed ruins of a once great nation (//http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/wiki/index.php?title=Fell%27s_Curse). Huzzah for magical plagues, eh? 8D

Go wild. x3

Quick question 'bout the curse: Are magical artifacts affected as well? o.o

[strike:211cyr3e]Goood question! o.o I would say the curse would probably affect them, make them go haywire and corrupt it, so the solution would probably be destroying the item or dropping it back off at the ruins (and making sure no mages touch it D8).[/strike:211cyr3e]

Magical items are unaffected. xD Only living beings can contract and transmit the curse.

So basically if you posess even the tiniest amount of magic and set foot on the tainted ground, your already infected?

Just exactly where on the map is this place?

Under the Kilanthro Mountain Range, but west of Connlaoth. So that clear area west of Connlaoth.

That puts it in the Niahi woods?

No, above that

Above that is in Connlaoth....

I thought Connlaoth was inside the mountain range, and that Fell is outside the mountain range to the west.

No? When I made Connlaoth, I used Gold's map and that was cleared by Rhi. And Connlaoth goes from one sea to the other in that little valley

Then we will have to wait for Rhi to tell us! Because I have no idea where it is now on which map xDD

It's in the woods xD

Also, the curse is transmitted through touch. xD Tweaked that so it's a biiit harder to spread than just "O HAI ARCA! *kaboom!*" xD Now an infected mage would need to touch a non-infected mage to transmit it.

Location-wise, on Gold's map (//http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=82321#p82321), it's by the K of Southern Kilanthro Mtns. Below the mtns and above Niahi.

So what about shapeshifters and the like, who don't actually have spells? How would the curse affect them? Would they just lose control of their shapeshifting?

What if they don't know they're a shapeshifter? -coughMockingbirdcough- Or people like my Mirikaine, whose sole magical talent is to screw with genetics.

Or magically-created species, who don't actually have their own inherent magic?

What about people with spells on?

The shapeshifter could only be infected if their shifting was magical in nature, which would make them a mage; if it's not a magical ability, then they wouldn't be at risk for infection. As to how being around someone with the curse would affect them, that'd be up to you to decide. x3 The effects of the curse on the environment and people around it are generally chaos and madness and entropy, so if you felt having them lose control of their shifting would be good, then go for it!

The curse could only infect a magically created creature if they possessed magic of their own. :3 As for how being around someone cursed would affect them, well, same as above! That'd be up to the player to decide. x3

If they have spells on, but don't have magic of their own, it would make those spells go haywire for as long as they were in the ruins/around an infected person, but the person wearing them could not be infected unless they were a mage themselves.

Basically, if you are a mage, you can be infected. If you're not a mage but have a magic item/spell on your person, that item will go haywire while you're exposed but you can't be infected or anything. x3 Whether or not there's permanent damage to the item/spell, and what exactly those affects are, I'll leave that up to the players to decide. ^^ React however feels appropriate.

Doesn't the Wiki say magic items are unaffected by the curse? Or does that just mean they can't transmit the curse, but are affected by the chaos if they're in range?

She even said that they weren't in a previous post. I don't know.

Sorry, yeah, that's what I mean. x3 They can't transmit or spread the curse, but they'll be affected if they're in range. Edited the wiki page to clear this stuff up!

Updated Fell to include a cure. x3

Aw, it was better when the only cure was death. Also seemed like an easier one xDD

It has to be hard so that it can't be cured on a large level and this way, if people get their characters infected, they can still cure them. It's just haaaard to do
