BASIC INFORMATION

Weight: 239 lbs
Race: Elf
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Residence: Clockwork City

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Tershal isn't exactly what you expect to see when thinking of an elf. He's rugged, broad-shouldered, heavily muscled, and square-jawed. His blue eyes are hard and sharp, with a soft slant. Bushy white eyebrows match a shaggy mane of long hair that is kept swept back in a partial ponytail; the bangs hang loose down past his chin. Where most elves have smooth, hairless faces he sports a goatee, mustache combo that gives him a rather dashing countenance – or so his wife claims.

As a heavier combatant, he favors leather padding under heavier armor when out of the Clockwork City, inside the safety of the walls when not on patrol he tends to wear simple, comfortable clothing. His right eye is covered by a leather eye patch. If you were to lift the covering you'd find an empty socket peering back at you, an old wound healed over a long time past. There are lots of small, undistinguished scars on his body, but none of great note.

PERSONALITY
Outwardly Tershal Nallvir is a very cool, distant man. Those that know him only in passing would take him for a rather cold, emotionless individual of few expressions and little humor. People that know him just a little better consider him to just be quiet and private, but still approachable. The truth is Tershal really doesn't much care what other people think of him – it isn't his business how other people think or feel. Got a problem with him? That's your problem.

Want to defrost him? See past that chilly exterior? Just take a peek at him when he's with his wife and children. Maybe he isn't one for big emotional displays, but there is warmth to his eyes and smile when he's looking at his beloved wife, Constance, that is not there at any other time – not even when looking at his children. Not to say he doesn't care about his offspring. Quite the contrary, he loves them very much, but he is a very driven individual when it comes to what he does, and that leaves something to be desired in the father department.

His missions and assignments take him far from the Clockwork City often, and there isn't a minute when he's gone that he doesn't miss his family, but he doesn't let himself be distracted. Not being focused on the job at hand can get a Shadow Ranger killed.

BACKSTORY
Born outside the Vigilant Shadows, Tershal doesn't speak much of his early life. When he joined the Shadows as a Fledgling, he severed his ties to the outside world and the family he had there - though his father was a knight and his mother a lady. Why he joined the Vigilant Shadows is his business and he doesn't talk about it. Later in his life he did find out that his mother had died and was more deeply affected by the news than he had thought he would be.

In his grief he found comfort with a fellow Shadow Ranger, a woman by the name Lenora Parish. A night of anguish-fueled passion resulted in a son – Jachan. This was a mistake; neither of them expected or wanted a child to result from their extremely brief fling. Lenora gave birth and immediately returned to her duties, allowing Dark Mothers to take and raise Jachan for her. Tershal did make a point to know his son, although the two never grew very close.

Tershal saved a beautiful blonde-haired girl from being brutalized a little less than fifty years ago. Her name was Constance Greene. She was very young, and terrified, both by those that had attacked her and the strange man that had unexpectedly come to her aid. After some gentle and patient coaxing the girl found herself in the elf's arms as he carried her home to her bed. She awoke the next morning thinking that she'd merely had a horrifying nightmare.

It was nearly ten years later when Constance found herself again in trouble. Her life had always been poor, instable, and hazardous, but for some reason, she seemed to never have quite as hard of a time as other girls in similar positions. Young and naïve she attributed her good fortune to having a guardian angel watching out for her – she had no idea that her thinking wasn't entirely inaccurate. Despite never showing himself to her during the long decade, Tershal had been checking in on her life regularly, from a distance and from the shadows.

So when she found herself being forced upon by a man that wished to push her into a life of prostitution, a figure from a half-remembered dream appeared from nowhere to whisk her to safety again. It was surreal to find that a man she'd dreamed of since she was a little girl wasn't just a dream – he was real. Tershal had intended to leave Constance once more in her bed, safe and sound, but before he could leave she'd grabbed ahold of his arm and begged him to take her away from the life she lived. He didn't have a choice after that, so he simply told her to go to sleep. The next morning she awoke within the Clockwork city.

It took Constance three years after arriving to finally wrangle Tershal into marrying her – the elf was as slippery as the shadows that he used and had avoided her as often as possible, but there was little that could stop a determined woman. Especially a Dark Mother! Of course there was something else Constance wanted from Tershal and she wouldn't feel like a proper Dark Mother until he gave it to her. Their son Andral was born within the year of their wedding. Just a few years shy of Andral being old enough to begin his training as a Fledgling; Constance gave birth to her second child, daughter Tesha.

When his daughter was just old enough to begin training as a Fledgling the battle of Blood Moon erupted. It was during this devastating battle that Jachan was killed and Tershal lost his right eye. The healers could have saved his eye, but he stubbornly refused to see them for something so trivial, their energy was best spent on those in dire need of healing. By the time a healer did see him, it was too late to save it, leaving him with the hallow socket he has now.

His daughter Tesha was eighteen and a full-fledged Shadow Ranger when daughter Kassa was born four years ago.
