Roose had noted the odd smell, but, being unfamiliar with this world and its pharmacology, he'd had no way to identify the type and nature of any drugs present. And not being human, or even humanoid, whatever the fake bills had been doused with, they did nothing to the young 'Twill. Even his close sniff, touch and lick had resulted in no ill effects. However...
... Dris hadn't been that "lucky".
Barely had wallet been handed over, before Roose noted the odd shift in his companion's pattern, his reactions and use of magic, again. Unexpectedly, before Roose could do more than tuck wallet behind belt and begin to inquire, Dris... passed out. Fortunately, 'Twill reflexes resulted in a very swift response, so Dris ended up gently lowered to the floor, rather than limply fallen, with a thump. Fortunately, the manager... a little woozy, yes... still kept his feet. And no one else had been close enough to inhale the smoke. So, the manager found a chair to sit on, and Roose found himself back on crouched haunches, snort breathed out his nostrils, tissue accelerator in hand.
One of the interesting uses of this device also included a pattern feedback diagnostic, so it not only served to accelerate tissue regeneration, but provided medical data on living beings, in a fashion similar to what had occured with dead ashes. Yet, in order to interpret the data... well, that knowledge had to be in the head of the user. Roose had some medical training, exo-paramedic, to put it in more precise terms. Even so, there existed limits on what could be understood from the feedback, in such a short time. Scanning the ashes had provided some information, but this drug had been an unknown wildcard, something Roose hadn't encountered, before... or expected. And Dris had passed out shortly after, while Roose had himself been pondering the device's feedback data-layers...
... had been more concerned with solving the real/fake issue. In other words, he hadn't... to be honest... even been looking for drugs, so his missing this aspect could perhaps be understood. The device focused on what the operator focused on....
Now, what with Dris on the floor, Roose's focus had reason to finally take aim in the right direction. Soon as he had Dris settled, staff laid along his side so both hands were free, a quick diagnostic scan linked 'Twill energies with humanoid energies, and gave 'Twill the information he needed. Both hands free, one hand held the device over Dris' forehead, while the other reached into another beltpouch, removed a small stone, and... with practiced ease... slipped it under his patient's tongue. This, while the device lit Dris' face with its glow.........
