Without a doubt, someone had given him fake money, somehow. Now, besides the troubling factor of why he was targetted, was how would he be able to tell his money, real from fake. Ignoring his idiotic thoughts that were not really important, he wondered who would give him fake money. As the regent, if he was found with fraud, murder, or theivery, or any other big . . . well he would just be sentenced to death.

Roose had said that they did not need to burn anymore . . . he might as well burn it all, not knowing which ones were fake, which were real.Ah well, Drauis thought. Things couldn't get much worse this. Dris noticed that Roose checked all his pouches too, checking to see if anything had been taken or given. Obviously nothing from Roose's expression. Then the Twill asked if he had met anyone before him. Dris was probably 99% sure that he hadn't.

"No, no . . . I am pretty sure." Dris said. "This is very troubling."

Yes, despite his muzzled aspect... despite his other facial differences... Roose made clear his emotions, through position and movement of ears and seelers, pulse of Eye, curl of lip, flick of tail's tuft, poise of body and flare of nostrils... made clear his emotions, even to a being not 'Twill.  Of course, 'Twill had such wide exposure to otherworld cultures, they had, perhaps, picked up some expressive habbits a humanoid intelligence would understand.........

Unfortunately, due to his lack of specific training in the specialized skill of Pattern Tracking, and the limited range-usage of his present med-gear, to solve this mystery, it would take the skills of a local professional to investigate this... Yes!... very troubling situation.  Roose didn't know all the details, not to the extent Dris did.  The human elf knew more of motivation, and other possibilities.  Unlike primates, 'Twill didn't have the play of politics in their psychological outlook.  Gregarious omnivores, 'Twill had developed from a less competative, more cooperative species.  Less prone to argue, less prone to fight amongst themselves.  Not that they were either "cute" or "fluffy"... their way had helped their kind to survive, from long, long ago till now.  So, Roose had no basis from which to ascribe either motive or implications from this odd act.

However...

...  "Then I can only assume it happened just before you left home... or after we met.  When did you first take note of your money-pouch... when did you first check it, today?"

Roose held out his free hand, a claw-gesture towards Dris' wallet...

...  "While you ponder, I can check what is good and what is not........."

Drauis was getting extremely tired of all this work, he did not like it at all, having someone giving him money. Roose was making a good point, he had not really checked his money pouch pretty much since he left his residence. The first time he looked at it was just a few moments ago. Before that . . . nothing for a few hours. It was already strange that no one was out and about around here, what was more strange was that his money had been added.

Unconsciously almost he handed his money to Roose and let him sort out which were fake and which were real. He was slightly in daze from everything that was happening. Or was it a drug? He cursed quietly, unable to curse any louder. It must have happened when he burned the bill. He grabbed his head and he stumbled a bit. This was not good, the drug could have been any kind, and he did not know how to get rid of it. He began a spell to remove drugs but he did not finish it. He was already unconscious.

Roose had noted the odd smell, but, being unfamiliar with this world and its pharmacology, he'd had no way to identify the type and nature of any drugs present.  And not being human, or even humanoid, whatever the fake bills had been doused with, they did nothing to the young 'Twill.  Even his close sniff, touch and lick had resulted in no ill effects.  However...

... Dris hadn't been that "lucky".

Barely had wallet been handed over, before Roose noted the odd shift in his companion's pattern, his reactions and use of magic, again.  Unexpectedly, before Roose could do more than tuck wallet behind belt and begin to inquire, Dris... passed out.  Fortunately, 'Twill reflexes resulted in a very swift response, so Dris ended up gently lowered to the floor, rather than limply fallen, with a thump.  Fortunately, the manager... a little woozy, yes... still kept his feet.  And no one else had been close enough to inhale the smoke.  So, the manager found a chair to sit on, and Roose found himself back on crouched haunches, snort breathed out his nostrils, tissue accelerator in hand.

One of the interesting uses of this device also included a pattern feedback diagnostic, so it not only served to accelerate tissue regeneration, but provided medical data on living beings, in a fashion similar to what had occured with dead ashes.  Yet, in order to interpret the data... well, that knowledge had to be in the head of the user.  Roose had some medical training, exo-paramedic, to put it in more precise terms.  Even so, there existed limits on what could be understood from the feedback, in such a short time.  Scanning the ashes had provided some information, but this drug had been an unknown wildcard, something Roose hadn't encountered, before... or expected.  And Dris had passed out shortly after, while Roose had himself been pondering the device's feedback data-layers...

... had been more concerned with solving the real/fake issue.  In other words, he hadn't... to be honest... even been looking for drugs, so his missing this aspect could perhaps be understood.  The device focused on what the operator focused on....

Now, what with Dris on the floor, Roose's focus had reason to finally take aim in the right direction.  Soon as he had Dris settled, staff laid along his side so both hands were free, a quick diagnostic scan linked 'Twill energies with humanoid energies, and gave 'Twill the information he needed.  Both hands free, one hand held the device over Dris' forehead, while the other reached into another beltpouch, removed a small stone, and... with practiced ease... slipped it under his patient's tongue.  This, while the device lit Dris' face with its glow.........

It was a strange feeling. To be unconscious yet at the same time to feel more alive then he had felt in a long time. Drauis was suprised to find that he enjoyed the feeling, more then enjoyed, he was getting addicted. That was not good. It was SO strange, how did it come to this? Was it the smoke? Gah, He really hated not knowing what had caused it. Struggling, Drauis tried to wake up. It was as if something was trying to stop him from getting back into the living, breathing world. Strange as it was, he would get back.

Suddenly he was jerked back into the real world by some kind of machine. It was probably Roose. It took a bit but with a sudden jump, Drauis was awake, sweating furiously. "What happened?"

(OOC: GAH WRITERS BLOOOOOOOOOOOCK! NOOO!)

Roose couldn't sweat, at least not like a human.  Oversized ears, heat-exchanging sinuses... other physiological differences... well, under normal circumstances, he had no need to sweat.  So, fur dry, all he could do was puzzle out what this was all about.  Of course, he came up dry in his ponderings, as well.  No idea what was going on.  And not very happy about the situation under claw.  Fortunately, his mental state didn't keep him from noting his patient's rise to consciousness...

... so, when his patient... when Dris woke up under his ministrations, the young 'Twill moved hand, claws and TA device away from the human elf's forehead, so when he jerked awake, no "CLUNK!" of head to device occured.  Not that Roose wasn't a bit surprised by the suddenness or the sweat, enough that his tail's tuft swept ceilingward, and his crouch on haunches became just as suddenly a sit on butt.  Or what passed for a butt on a 'Twill.

Fortunately, Roose managed to keep his legs from kicking out.  Managed to prevent such a reflex from kicking Dris across the room, which would have been to the detriment of his continued health and wellbeing.  A bit awkward.  A bit uncomfortable.  A bit of a hiss, to go with the wince, as his tail bent a little farther than it should.  Not serious, nothing injurious, but it smarted...

...  "Hrrrrr... what happened?"

Roose managed to push himself back up onto his haunches, hand rubbed to tail's sore base, before a wave of TA over the spot took away the pain...

...  "Something unpleasant...."

His own minor incident taken care of, the TA went back into its beltpouch, and another beltpouch produced a sealed tube... empty.  One clawed hand reached for Dris' chin, the other popped the seal on the tube, and held it up...

...  "Spit the stone into this... don't swallow!"

Jumbled thoughts. Hahaha, are those stars I see? Thought Drauis. Wow I am seeing stars! Is it night-time? Drauis was confused. Was he also seeing moons and suns? That didn't sound right for just being unconscious. Dris thought only stars were normal. Was that a wolf? and a cow? and a doppleganger of himself? His head was in a pickle. A pickle? Was he seeing that now too? Was he going normal, er crazy? Was crazy now normal? Drauis was making his own head hurt. Or was he just hullocinating that his head was hurting?

Shaking his head hard and slapping his head a few times, he looked around trying to find Roose. It was odd but it seemed his eyes passed over the 'Twill quite a few times before actually landing on him. He had absolutely no idea what had happened or what was going on but he knew for certain that it was strange, unfortunate, and unpleasent. He relucently took and swollowed the rock, and almost choked on it, but he forced it down. It was strange but he seemed to go down easily after that.

"I am sooo conufused at what happened." Drauis said. "Do you, Roose?"

Obviously, something had been lost in translation.........

Roose couldn't think of any other reason for what happened, when Dris swallowed the stone the young 'Twill had put under his tongue, whe he should have spat it out into the offered tube.  Not that there wasn't another reason, no.  But his words had been so clear!  A warning... a.........

While Dris spoke, Roose quickly returned TA to hand, plucked out another quite different stone, after returning tube to pouch, then... a bare instant after Dris asked his question, shoved TA against the humanoid's stomach hard enough to put Dris back on his... well, back.  Hand with stone held over Dris' now open mouth, Eye flared...

... Click!...

... and the lit-up patterns on the stone over mouth, the intent glow of TA at the other end, forced the swallowed stone back up the way it had come, horked up so the pattern glow of the held stone captured the swallowed stone like a magnet.  Swiftly, Roose made sure the recovered stone was secured safely into its tube, the helper stone was returned to pouch, and the TA was returned to Dris' forehead, after a wave over stomach, chest and throat, to relieve any discomfort from this forceful expellation.  Fortunately, Roose had caught the medstone juuust before it entered the stomach.

But he didn't feel all that happy.  Clear head or no, now, Dris couldn't fail to note Roose's downed ears and seelers, or the narrowed gaze and slight flash of teeth...

...  "Dris... focus!  Never swallow a stone like that a......... *"

Roose got a hold on his emotions, but he could feel the nervous twitch of his tail over the floor, as the adrenal surge started to clear...

...  "Try not to do that again, hmmm?"

Horrible. That's what that rock was. Horrible. Drauis guessed he deserved it. He had swollowed a rock that Roose had specifically said to spit the stone into a container and not to swallow it. He was already confused at what had happened. Everything had happened so fast and it was making his mind more confused. Had the toxic air caused him to dream of pretty stars? Was that a sun there too?!

Something had definately been lost in his state of mind. He had completely missed half the words Roose had said.

He was not really aware of what was happening to him while he was dreaming of bunnies and nice, soft clouds that he decided to lay down on. Things were perfect in the dreams, he was the head mage, the king had returned, everything was juuuust fine. Wait! He was the head mage? NO! He had to get that position fair! He would not take the position without a fair fight for it!

This woke him up a bit. In the worst possible time. It was when Roose had somehow gotten the stone back up is throat and out his mouth. It was painful, but probably not as much as it WOULD have been. He groaned and heard vaguely what Roose said.

He sounded angry, but Dris did not hear it well. It was in a world of its own.

"Yuea, Neer a-in, Oooz." Dris said, tongue tied. (Yeah, Never again, Roose.)

Over his brief burst of anger, Roose couldn't help but be puzzled by how Dris acted.  The manager looked a bit confused, as well, but not to anywhere near the same degree.  So, all the young 'Twill could do?  Give Dris a sideways look, then stand, then remove the tube with the swallowed stone from the pouch he'd so recently placed it, for examination.  Yesss, yes... dark, mottled... exposure to TA pattern manip brought out... hmmm.........

Another glance to the manager, a quick order for a specific alcoholic beverage... specifically, a 2-1-1 ratio mix of beer, bourbon and tequilla... then another stone dropped into the mix, shaken, and poured into a chilled glass, stone carefully strained out, dried and returned to pouch.  The resulting beverage, held out to Dris...

...  "Drink this........."

Roose was ready, just in case, another chilled glass and half a tumbler still available, should anything happen.  Of course, if anything happened, there would be more unpleasant consequences, this Roose made sure and clear in his facial expression.........

Drauis was dreaming of black bunnies, black cards, black humans, black pure black, everything had turned black. It was all strange, once again, this had never happened before to him. Everything to him was the opposite of what it was in reality. Black was white, white was black, his left hand was his right . . . everything was opposite. Drauis had to get out. If he stayed like this too long, he could lose his sight, or even worse, lose his mind.

In reality, someone gave him a drink. Almost unconsciously, he drank it before he cursed. Alcohol. Something that he could not tolerate. Roose had put something in it too. Drauis screamed and shot up, awake, and wink away. It was probably not what Roose had intended, but something had happened. Drauis was somewhere he could not make out. His hands were sparking with power.

He headed in a random direction, but after what seemed like hours, he was no where. The only light was his own power, lighting the way. Everything was pitch black and this was no longer a dream.

He was trapped in what looked like the abyss.

(OOC: Lol, I ran out of ideas for a moment, so I made up something to help me out here. Got questions? PM me lol)
