Night was starting to fall on the forest. It meant that it would be time soon for them to leave the den and to hunt.

Normally this wouldn't be something new if you understood the predicament at hand. However, things were a little bit strange in this circumstance. One of the particular den-dwellers, amongst the pack of ten wolves, was not a wolf at all. Though, you'd never really care to argue that she didn't seem at least part wolf. Her grey hair was marred with dirt, the hair coming just down past her waist. It was ripped and torn in some placed, the ends were frayed and she had a number of small twigs and leaves stuck in it. She had yet to bathe herself, so it was understandable.

Crudely created clothes of fur covered her body, barely held together by gut and sinew, she didn't know why she felt shame at her naked body, she just knew that like wolves, she felt better with a bit of fur covering herself.

She awoke from her sleep with a stretch, nestled between two of the other female wolves in the pack. She began to clean herself, clearing the twigs and leaves from her hair to make herself a little more presentable. After all, she was going hunting, and she needed to look a bit more graceful for that. Her long fingernails, sharpened into claws carefully got the knots and tangles from her hair, as well as any debris she had picked up while sleeping. Other wolves began to stir, awaking and starting to lope outside and prepare for the night.

One wolf howled outside of the den, which meant they would all be starting soon. It was like a bell at a monastery, intoning that the day was over.

The young woman finished cleaning her hair and calmly walked on all fours outside of the den. Once outside however, she did stand on her hind legs. The other wolves didn't much understand it, but she found that she could run faster this way, for whatever reason, her front paws were not very good for running. Though, they were a very valuable asset, considering that she could grip things easier with them. This made her invaluable at times, like clearing large bunches of rocks and sticks from the den, or helping to tear apart a fresh kill.

Tonight wasn't like any other night though. Some of the wolves were a little nervous. There were things in the forest that weren't usually there. The wolves knew them to be dangerous, they walked on hind legs like one of their fellow wolves, but they clad themselves sometimes in strange shiny rocks, that could cut through things with large sharp rocks as well. They were best to be avoided of course, all things considered.

So the hunt went on however, and soon the pack had taken down a couple of deer. Death wasn't really understood, they needed to eat, and it wasn't their fault they had been born to eat creatures. The one wolf, the wolf who wasn't a wolf, would admit she had tried eating grass, leaves, and these weird little round things that grew on bushes and actually liked them. They all thought her a little weird, so she stopped it, though grass did seem to settle her stomach, and so did those round things at times.

The deer were delicious as usual, and the wolf girl waited her turn as the Alpha male and female got their fill, and then the rest of the pack was allowed to eat.

Something was off about that night though. It was in the air, a strange smell. She could barely remember the time the forest had been under a large storm, and light flashed in the clouds and loud noises accompanied them. She could remember when a few of these flashes of light struck the ground, and the trees had burst into a brilliant display of light and heat. There was probably a word for it, but the wolves just knew it was dangerous.

However this didn't seem to be like then, where there had been a lot of it, it was just a wafting smell, while the other danger had given off a LOT of the strange acrid cloud. Despite some whines from her pack, she decided she'd go and investigate the smell anyway. It couldn't hurt, it was night time, and most of the two legged things that would walk or ride the four legged non-deer creatures through the woods usually stopped. Ah! That's right!

The smell was from the Danger that they created. They always seemed to find a clearing and then make the strange light in the middle. It did do a good job of deterring most animals she noticed, the wolves didn't like the idea of looking for food in there, though the flying creatures didn't much care and would perch in trees and watch them. So she would do the same. She was coming close to the strange light, creeping silently like any of the wolves would. She wasn't hunting, but she was using all her experience to make sure that she wasn't spotted. These things could often be dangerous, the hot light could burn, and the two legged creatures could have strange sharp and shiny rocks with them. She just...had to be careful.

Careful.

It was a cold night. The moon hung high in the sky as wispy gray clouds cast shadows onto the ground. A cold breeze floated across the forest, causing animals and humans alike to shiver, the trees themselves seem to tremble, their long branches quivered. A lone leaf was plucked from its perch high in the sky and sauntered vaguely downwards. It floated downwards, in no particular path, and landed on a roughly made path, as a carriage rumbled down the road, torches lit around it. Drauis sighed. Forests, really great places, but he hated them at night. Well . . . not really, he just hated having to cast a bubble of air around him to keep the bugs away.

The carriage continued along, guards on horse around the carriage. It was as if he were the king or something. No, wait, if I were the king, there would be double the guards right now. Though Dris. He sighed again and took out a spell book. He needed to work on his magic. Though the noise was loud, he could hear wolves howling, and strangely, he felt a slight bit of fear. Wolves were incredible creatures . . .

Drauis sighed. He could tell. It was pretty dark out. He nodded to himself. He was sure he was not going to make it to the foot of the moutain range by nightfall. He knocked on the front of the carriage, telling the driver that he wanted to set up camp.

It took not too long, but long enough that many of the guards fell asleep right away. Drauis was one of the few that stayed awake. He sat on a boulder, a single personal guard leaned against the bottom of it. Drauis sighed again, night was a nice time of day.

Things were as quiet as they should be at night. Some birds stirred, some creatures moved around, and she was on the hunt for the new creatures that had wandered into their forest. She wasn't too sure what they were doing here, they usually only passed through in their strange beasts that were hard as the trees and had paws that were circular and just seemed to glide across the ground. They had one of the two legged things on top that seemed to also drive the four legged beasts at the front.

So many beasts for just one of the two legged creatures to stay inside of it. That was always weird, it make her think that it was maybe not a beast, that very large one, but instead it might have been some sort of mobile cave. She wasn't even sure but...it just didn't seem alive. After all, it never really reacted to anything, in fact the four legged beasts were some of the few that seemed to get scared.

The woman sauntered along, following the creatures, but they seemed to be stopping, as they all slowed down in a clearing of sorts. She didn't really want to get too close, she had no idea how dangerous these two legged might be. They would be very dangerous if they carried those strange shiny rocks that were sharp and deadly.

They had danger setup within no time, that brilliant display of heat and light, contained though within one area. She'd be careful of it. She waited, crouched low in the grass as she observed the two legged creatures. They didn't take long to fall asleep, which made her more comfortable. Something had smelled good...something they had done to meat with the danger. She wanted to investigate. Creeping in without a noise she carefully sniffed, looking for any leftovers. She didn't disturb any of the sleepers, her steps were planned and observed. She found some of the meat discarded in the grass, carefully taking it and biting into it. The taste was strange, it wasn't bad but it was...well it was new.

She wasn't sure if she liked it, but meat was meat. Of course, it seemed rather inefficient and wasteful to use the Danger to make it go dark...but it was still rather juicy. The flavours seemed to be encased in the meat almost. She took her meat and wandered away from the fire and sleeping two legged creatures, unbeknownst to her that two others were still awake and near a large boulder. She thought she was safe there, and dug in near it and began to chew somewhat noisily on the meat.

Despite his . . . appearance, his attitude toward some certain things, Drauis was quite a formidible opponent if he were to have to fight. He had impossibly fast reflexes with both weapons and his powers. Dris had incredible hearing and sight, though he tended to put them to waste most of the time. He was after all, a regent, who tended to have many guards to do the job for him, even when he did not want them to do it. Guards and servants. They all did things for him, or took care of things for him. Sometimes, they were helpful, but much of the other times, they just annoyed him, reminding him, that he was in a place that was needed to be protected.

Drauis stared into the night sky. He loved the nighttime. It was his time to get away from all of them, he rolled his eyes, and glanced downwards at his personal guard that was far more loyal then any of the rest. Well, most of all of them. He returned his gaze to the sky and lost himself in the stars, the moon, the blackness. Not as odd as before, his thoughts turned to Chailyn, the head mage of Serendipity. His heart felt strange as he thought of her, but he could not tell what he felt. Could it be love? It just might. He sighed and scratched the back of his head. His life was so complicated. Sometimes, he wished he lived in the wild, where everything was just much more simplier. Like it was as he sat upon his large boulder.

A noise. Dris snapped his head toward where the same was coming from. He could see the outline of something, or someone eating noisily. He paused before addressing his guard so softly, the guard had to strain to hear it. "I want you to go capture and kill an animal for me, so I can eat a bit more, please."

The guard looked at him strange. It was the middle of the night. But he had to obey, so he ran off quietly, a bow and spear with him. Drauis waited for the guard to come back before he decided what he was going to do next. The guard had brought back two rabbits. He nodded appovingly before he spoke again. "Please go and rest for a bit, I have a quick matter to address." The guard started to protest, but Dris covered his mouth. "Its all right, I am not leaving the area, just go and rest your body, I will be back in a few minutes." The guard finally gave in and walked back to where everyone else was. Drauis watched him go before he crept closer to the shape in the darkness. When he was close enough to cast a net, he quickly did, a moment after, he shouted. "Who goes there?!"

She was too busy to even notice that there other people around. Her sense of smell and hearing wasn't quite as fine tuned as the actual wolves that she hunted with, but they were a lot better than most humans could attest to having. However, she was too close to the cooked meat that she had very little idea as to what was around her. All she knew was that the guards around the fire were still sleeping. She didn't know that there had been a couple of the two legged creatures by the large boulder that she was currently enjoying her meal.

The taste of the food was different, there was a lot less juices that dripped from the meat, but at the same time, the juices were different...the grease as it were, was quite a nice taste. The other wolves probably wouldn't care for it, they'd think it was burnt and disgusting, but for whatever reason the woman didn't mind it at all. That's how she knew she was different again, she found some things delicious, things that a proper wolf wouldn't.

She wasn't bothered however.

The wolves were just picky, that's all.

She didn't even hear the man as he came and cast a net at her. The moment it was on her, she began to struggle and growl angrily like a wild animal. There was even a bit of a barking noise as she was trying to rip and tear at the net. She even was trying to run away, to try and escape while the net was on her, but she had never encountered this sort of thing. She began to yelp and angrily thrash, trying to escape from the strange net that was encasing her. It was almost like a time she had ended up with a pile of sticky leaves on her. It had been very...confining. She didn't prefer either of them, but the sticky pile of leaves were at least easy to get rid of. This net was much different however.

There was more angry growling and yelping, more thrashing as she started to panic. The other wolves wouldn't come...not with the fire about, and all the men. They were smarter than that. She was...going to be alone in this whole situation.

He could hear growling and much more noise then he thought could be made from a single entity. Barking, growling, and much more. But what was strange was that it sounded strangely and vaguely human. He went ahead and completely froze an ball of air around the creature or maybe human that he could not see, blocking off the sound, but the creature could still breath. He used his powers and to bend light so he could see the creature.

Dris almost lost his concentration then and there, almost accidentally squeezing his ball around the girl, but he quickly regained his thoughts and quickly controlled his powers. He slowly lowered the human down to the ground and very carefully removed the net from her with his wind. He wondered how she came to be like she was. The wolves obviously raised her, he could tell. Though wolves wore nothing, this girl obviously had some fur wrapped around her. No matter how strange this was, he was going to have to help her. Though he really did not see what he could do. The young woman obviously did not know any english words.

He released his powers around the human girl to see what she would do as he plopped down onto the ground, his powers swirling from hand to hand, just in case. On the ground in front of him, were the two rabbits.

The net was perhaps a scary thing, but she could feel the air had changed very rapidly. She wasn't sure what was going on, but she started to act more like a caged or cornered animal. Her teeth were bared, her hands clutching to the ground, growling fiercely as she tried to figure out what was going on now. She could feel there wasn't a proper ground below her, that the ground had disappeared and she was almost being...lifted by some unknown force. That got her attention. She had never encountered magic, nor had she ever encountered a wind anomaly like this...or any sort of wind anomaly. Well, she had encountered before a sort of twirling wind that moved everything around and around but...nothing to this extreme.

She gave an angry bark as the air changed again, she wanted to escape, but this net, and this strange air was confusing her. Slowly however she felt the ground again, and everything that was stopping her, had left her. Even the net had disappeared, and the moment she realized this she stopped growling.

Then she bolted. This was a flight or fight situation, and from what she had just experienced, this was flight. She went straight into the darkness, away from the smell of the people, the fire, the horses, the meat, she was heading straight back into the safety of the dark forest, to find her pack, and warn them of the two legged invaders. They were to be avoided at all costs.

As he removed his barrier around the wolf girl, he had a sudden revelation. What if someone had left her here as a kid or baby? She needed a father or a mother, or someone to guide her, and not in the ways of a wolf. Drauis was definately not up to that. He sighed and as his powers flickered away, the girl bolted. He watched her go with a bit of sadness. She would never know what it was like to live as a human. Dris cleared away an area to make another fire and put his firewood there.

To create the fire, Draius whispered a quick spell and a small flame went up. He prodded the flame until it grew. Adding fire wood, he watched it grow from but a small flame until it was big enough to light up the area a bit, and warm him. He set up two "Y" shaped sticks on either side of the fire and cleaned both rabbits before impaling the dead bodies and put them over the fire. Dris slowly rotated them, clinging to the hope that if the wolf girl smelled the meat, she would come back.

As he finished cooking them both, he stuck on into the ground as he ate the other, it was time. Drauis began to eat, and he waited.
