Physical Description

Anzu is not anyone's ideal image of a princess. For starters, she's taller than most of her people by a few inches, and her femininity is further undermined by a build that leans away from delicate and into muscular. And to top it all off: her hair is red.

This is belied by the harsh beauty of her face: wide-set kelly-green eyes, fringed thickly with dark lashes and angled sharply upwards with all of the ferocity of a large cat, set over a thin nose and a mouth that always seems to be very slightly quirked in a frown at the corner. The feline elegance is accented by the oval shape to her face and the pointed chin, with cheekbones that rake backwards across her face as sharp as the wind over the wetlands, and pointed ears and sharp canines that echo the imagery. These are mirrored by the auburn-brown swoop of her eyebrows, strongly lined and quirked slightly toward the ends in an ever-interrogative tilt, and the intense focus of her stare - cat eyes to those who speak kindly, witch eyes to those less generously inclined.

A shrinking violet in neither form nor face, Anzu is built strongly: muscled shoulders and toned arms funnel into a trim waist, the curve of her hip belying her stockier frame honed by constant exercise. Her form is typically swathed in dark colors, largely either forest green or midnight black, and often accentuated with vibrant silver embroidery along hem and sleeve.

Personality

Anzu is not any Rulastinian's idea of an ideal princess, at least not to look at. She is, however, the perfect prince in nearly every other way, applying herself aggressively to becoming the best potential leader that she could be - and far better than the brother than she never met could have been. Anzu is something of a scholar, with a mind filled to the brim with arcane knowledge of warfare and a thousand historic battles, their dispositions, and their outcomes; she takes a deep pleasure in teasing out the answers to puzzles and riddles, or finding clever solutions to difficult problems. Though hardly encyclopedic in her knowledge, she possesses a shrewd sense of the shortcomings of mortals, and can often predict the outcome of certain actions within the wider world of the court of her father. Though personally uncomfortable with intimate emotions, Anzu is knowledgeable about the motivations of people, and typically fairly clever at finding out what it is that gives her a key to a subject's heart and mind. Despite this, she struggles often to truly trust others, skeptical of their altruism and typically paranoid that it provides a cover for general ambition. Because of this, Anzu rarely finds herself tempted to take others into her confidence, or share her emotions with anyone but her father. In fact, in such situations where conversations of an intimate nature are unavoidable, Anzu typically retreats into herself: her face becomes cool and unreadable, her manner the frosty politesse that she would show to a new ambassador at her court.

To the outside world, the redheaded princess is vital and bright, an engaging mixture of charm, supreme confidence, and urbane interest in whomever she's speaking to. She fairly quivers with energy, usually finding it difficult to stay in any one place for too long and frequently snatching at empty moments throughout her days to wander through the royal libraries or sneak down to the docks and a stashed canoe. Despite the rangy, cagy youthfulness of her mobility, it is obvious that Anzu has been well trained from birth in the elegant courtly manners expected of a princess; after all, before her brother died, she would have been expected to twinkle under someone's eye and make a fine, fat prize for whomever her father needed to tie into his family or bind closer with a reward. To her family's credit, Anzu is bound by a strong sense of duty to her station and her bloodline, and would have put up with such a request had she been made to - though thankfully, no such demand has been made of her. Anzu feels quite comfortable in her single state, and is hardly motivated to push her father into finding her a suitor.

Anzu is not a particularly hard mistress to serve, but she is strict, expecting excellence in the behavior of those around her. Despite this, she's generous to those who serve her well, and never forgets a kindness done for her. Rather idealistically, Anzu believes that there is no greater duty than to wear her father's crown and to guide her nation, and despite her natural distaste for asking for help, has demonstrated that she knows that running a kingdom is a collaborative effort. She makes a point to surround herself with the best, the brightest, and the most skilled warriors, scholars, and poets, knowing that Rulastinia will never take its place in the world if it is seen as a dirty, backwards swamp. This is also evident in her personal tastes; Anzu loves rich things, having been born with a silver spoon in her mouth, and prizes fine fabrics, bright jewels, and rare manuscripts as much as any royal.

History

Being born the only daughter of an entire kingdom is hard. Being born the only daughter of an entire kingdom after your twin brother has died is even harder. To combat the natural skepticism of the Rulastinian people as to be worthiness to rule, Anzu has trained from a very young age in both physical and political pursuits. Despite the relative unpopularity of her father's policies, Anzu cleaves to her king and sovereign, while still trying to navigate a middle ground that won't alienate anyone upon the day that she is called to ascend the throne.
