Winters-Feather

Sha-Razi watched from under the shade of a tree as the women servants tittered and splashed each other with the river's water. Guards were stationed around them to ensure their safety, as well as the clothes. Even though they were close to the edge of the jungle by the village, it was still a dangerous place. Nothing much happened in this part of the Kishahn, for many came by to wash clothes in this area, but thieves were just as common as snakes and scorpions in these parts. The women had helped  with most of the items, but the work was soon done and now they were waiting for the colorful array of cloth to dry. That's when Razi felt the most lonely. She was surrounded in the company of these women, yet they saw her as something different; not quite them, but not quite royalty, and certainly not anywhere near the naga god's level. Razi was an in betweener, and, thus, even though they mean no harm by it, she found herself more or less isolated in their tossings of playful insults or bits of gossip.

However, Razi was more than just lonely- she was bored. The woman bit her lip and rose her feet, pulling a veil over her head. She walked past a guar by the shore line, who seemed concerned by her movements.
"Ma'am, it's not safe to go alone," he said.
Razi smiled at him. He was one of hers and a favorite, a  young man named Jiipa with bronze skin and a naive look.
"Then come with me," she said in a carefree manner as she continued to stroll along the shore line.
"Yes, ma'am," he muttered, wondering if this was okay or not.
I won't be miss if it's for a few minutes,  and don't stray too far, she thought as the voices of the women by the riverside become fainter.

This was definitely going to be the last time Zsiree would look for employment in this part of the continent. She actually hadn't been particularly fond of the idea in the first place. The Kishahn Jungle had been a little far from the major nations and ports for her taste, but the potential payoff had been way too tempting for her to turn down. She really could have used the money. Unfortunately she would never actually make it to the meeting place and now here she was, lost with no idea where she was.

Most of her morning had been spent swimming up the river in hopes of coming across a village sooner or later, but so far she'd had no luck. She was just about to give up and hunt for something to eat when she sensed something moving onshore. As she raised her head above the water she caught sight of what appeared to be two humans, one male and one female. Also judging from the way the man was dressed he was a warrior of some sort, perhaps even the woman's bodyguard. Whatever the case was if they were out here the chance of there being some kind of settlement being nearby was pretty high. Zsiree watched them curiously for a moment before slithering through the water toward the shore.

"Excuse me," she hissed, her eyes wandering back and forward between them as the rest of her abdomen rose out of the water. She wasn't exactly wearing much in the way of clothing, but anymore would have had too much of an impact on her stamina in the water. All she really needed was her breastplate, the short armored skirt around her waist, and a few pieces of jewelry on her wrists. She also carried a fancy-looking sword and bow on her back, both covered in a special coating to keep them from degrading.

"Are you two from around here?"

A few moments before the Kigzesl woman sprung out of the water, Jiipa detected her presence, first. His eyes narrowed on the water as he protectively pulled Sha-Razi away from its banks.
"Something's coming," he whispered quietly, his hand ready by his waist.
Knowing better than to question his judgement, Razi nodded and stepped away, pulling her long, pleated skirt up a bit so that she wouldn't trip if she needed to run. Razi arched a brow as she examined the  pale blue Kigzesl. She had met a few of the naga in the past, though it was rare for them to travel out to here to meet their cousins.

"Ma'am?" Jiipa asked.
Razi nodded. Despite the woman kigzesl's weary appearance, she still was armed.
"Yes, we are," she kindly replied to the kigzesl.
"My name is Sha-Razi, companion of the Holy One Charik. My guard and I would like to know your name and the purpose of your travels here with such equipment."

Xphy

Zsiree tilted her head to the side slightly, noting the caution in the actions of the two humans. At first she had assumed it was because of her appearance, but judging from what was said it was actually her gear that was the problem. The female had also mentioned something about some kind of 'Holy One,' which caught her ear. With her limited knowledge of the people of this area she could only assume that this Charik was some kind of prophet to them.

"My name is Zsiree of the Cyllan Isles," she replied calmly. "And I was supposed to meet with someone about some work in this jungle, but it would seem that I am lost. Is there a village near here by chance?" She could only hope there was, if only to try to get her hand on some kind of map of the area. It would also save her the trouble of having to hunt her own food, at least if they ate meat anyway.

Winters-Feather

"You've traveled a long way," Razi replied to Zsiree's answer. In truth, the answer of Cyllan Isles hadn't surprised her; what surprised her was her making the effort to come this far. The kigzesl's vague answer wasn't dousing her curiosity, either. A well armed lady such as her self with the intents of conducting "business" in the village seemed suspicious, though Sha-Razi didn't want to go running off to irrational conclusions. Still, Jiipa and her had the safety of the people to think about. The woman frowned as she posed her next question.
"We'll escort you," she declared as she gave her guard a nod.
"But first, tell us about your business. Who is this person you are supposed to meet?"

Xphy

It seemed that Sha-Razi had heard of her home before. Zsiree couldn't help but wonder if she had met one of her kind before as well. It wouldn't have surprised her. Her people traded with a lot of different civilizations, and it was entirely possible for her to have come across a few.

"Thank you," the kigzesl replied, taking a brief moment to think. The man she had spoken to hadn't exactly given her a lot of details on what was needed. Only the name of the person she was to meet, and that the pay would be good. "And I had heard that a man called Garph was looking to hire someone for some mercenary work. I don't really know why though, and by now he's probably already found someone."

Winters-Feather

Razi did not need to turn towards Jiipa to know that they needed to keep Sziree close as the kigzesl politely answered her questions. It didn't seem that she was lying. Not too many would outright admit their status as a mercenary, though the woman was not too certain if Zsiree had given her all the details or not. Either way, this was a case worth looking into. Mercenary work wasn't illegal, though it wasn't the most honest of professions.

We must look into this, Razi thought, keeping the name Zsiree had given  fresh in thought. She knew Jiipa was most likely thinking the same thing, for his grip on his weapons became tighter.
"Maybe," Razi replied with a smile, "But perhaps not. In any case, don't fret about lodging and food. You may stay with us for the night. Follow me."
Jiipa flashed her a surprised look. It was clear the man wasn't comfortable with her decision about keeping the kigzesl so close, but Razi didn't mind. She turned on her heel and began walking back to the flock of women and the washing. Jiipa sighed as he motioned for Sziree to do as she bid.

Xphy

Zsiree couldn't help but wonder why these people were so tense, the male in particular. She didn't recall doing anything wrong, and she wasn't exactly threatening them or anything. Her suspicion was almost enough to make her refuse the girl's offer, but she wasn't about to turn down free lodging and food. Whatever little money she could save would only bring her that much closer to her goal of buying a new boat for her wife.

Plus if worst came to worst she could always hypnotize them as she made her escape.

"If you say so, though I wouldn't want to be a burden," she replied, swimming to the water's edge and slithering onto the shore behind them. "Out of curiosity how far is it from where you live?"

Winters-Feather

"You won't be," Razi reassured Zsiree.
She couldn't help but to admire the kigzesl's scales and examine her armor before quickly diverting her eyes towards ahead of their path.
"The temple is not far," the woman explained, "Once we get towards the edge of the jungle, we'll be by its gates."
They soon found themselves once more in the company of the woman doing the laundry. Their lively chatter was hushed as they all gawked at Razi and her new guest. The woman ignored their stares and turned towards her guest.
"These are some of the temple's servants," she explained, "The're good people, though we don't often get guests such as yourself, so please forgive their rudeness."

After a few minutes, they finally found themselves at the gates of the temple. Guards opened a door for the trio to pass through. Razi started to lead the way towards her compartments, pausing only to instruct a passing slave to inform the kitchens to send food to her spare room. Jiipa stood by the door as the woman made her way towards the center of the airy room, where there was a table surrounded by giant and colorful cushions.
"Come sit with me," Razi instructed.
She paused before continuing.
"Should we send out someone to look for this Garph? I don't want you losing business, if you came out so far."

Xphy

The kigzesl simply nodded and followed behind, taking in the area as they walked. After being lost for the last few days she wanted to learn as much about the area as possible. She paid especially close attention when they arrived at the village, only occasionally glancing at the gawking maid as they passed by. She was already used to that kind of reaction.

When she was finally led to the temple and invited to join the girl at the center of one of its rooms she slithered closer. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt, although I would hate to occupy one of your servants with such a task." As she spoke she shifted her tail as best she could to prop herself up on one of the cushions. "This is a nice place by the way. Your husband has good taste." She remembered the woman saying that she was the companion of this Charik so she could only assume that they were married. She also knew that humans tended to have those odd male dominated marriage so she figured this Charik person was probably the one in control here.

Winters-Feather

"It's no trouble," Razi smoothly replied, though she was quietly unhinged by the next statement.
Husband.
The woman gave a thin and worn out smile at that statement as she bowed her head. She was quite used to this reaction from foreigners who didn't understand these customs. Besides, Razi wasn't raised to be ashamed of it. In fact, she has and was still able to prove her worth and had freedom plenty.  However, she was still bitter at the thought of being practically sold into her station, and loathed the judgement that some silently passed onto her that was clearly presented in their eyes.
"Thank you, though the king is not my husband," she replied quietly with firm eye contact, "He has companions other than myself, though I also have official duties."

Xphy

"I see. Then I apologize," Zsiree replied quietly. For the life of her the kigzesl couldn't think of any possible reason why a male would want or need multiple companions, if any at all. There was simply no benefit in it. But human concepts of relationships in general made very little sense to her so she chose not to over think it.Instead she decided to ask about something else the woman mentioned.

"Duties?" She was genuinely curious what kind of duties Sha-Razi had. She definitely seemed to have some importance based on what she had seen so far.

Winters-Feather

"Yes," Razi replied, grateful to be rid of the matter.
The woman sat up straighter in her place.
"I'm a translator and act as ambassador in foreign countries, sometimes," she explained before launching into a story about her recent travels to Serendipity. The woman stopped midway when the food arrived, carried on large trays brought by two teenage girls. The scent of spice filled the air as the two were presented with eating utensils, bread, vegetable and meat dishes, along with tea and wine. The girls tried their best to appear humble, with their heads bowed , though every now and then, they'd peer curiously at Zsiree, one even muttering something about Ziya.

Razi beamed as she instantly began to pour tea for her guest and herself.
"Please," she encouraged, "eat as much as you'd like."
The woman was secretly ecstatic to have company, however odd it was. At least here was somebody who could talk to her properly.
Even if her business is still questionable, Razi thought.
The woman coughed, trying to figure out how was the most delicate way to approach the situation. Her green eyes peered at the kigzesl, watching her reaction, her every subtle movement.
"Zsiree," she began to slowly ask, "I'm curious... How did you catch wind of a man seeking employment in Matlal? Our city is a rather isolated one, after all."

Xphy

Zsiree nodded as the woman spoke of her recent travels, listening intently to all she had seen and learned. Her attention would however shift when the servants arrived, her eyes carefully examining the food they brought with them. She was particularly interested in the meat dishes, her kind being mostly carnivorous by nature.

The kigzesl wasted little time before sampling each of the entrées when Razi told her to have as much as she wanted. She had actually been quite curious about how the people in this part of the continent seasoned their meats, and from what she could taste they had some interesting native spices. Some were similar in taste to those found in her homeland, while others were unique but still tasty.

When the girl asked her next question she paused briefly before swallowing what she had in her mouth at the time. "Actually a man I met in Southern Adela told me about the job. He pretty much told me that someone called Garph was looking to hire a few mercenaries and that the pay was good," she replied with a shrug. Zsiree was beginning to wonder what Razi really thought of her story; whether she believed her or not. Still she couldn't really blame her for being curious about it. She too might not have believed it if it hadn't happened to her.  "But like I've said he didn't say why.

"Is something wrong?"

Winters-Feather

OOC: I realized I forgot to explicitly state that Razi had sent out somebody, though she did. Whoops>< Also didn't explain the man in case you had a specific look in mind

IC:

Sha-Razi stared pensively down at her juice as Zsiree talked, her fingers tightly coiled around her cup. Her words only seemed to rise more questions instead of dispelling them. As far as Razi was concerned, their kingdom was by no means enemies with Adela, though they weren't necessarily allies.
He didn't give a name.
All of this sounded very suspicious to the woman, but she only pressed her lips together and opened her eyes widely when Zsiree's direction question snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Hmm?" she replied,  with a slight laugh, "It's nothing. Please, enjoy yourself."

Her eyes wandered towards her guard, who gave a slight nod. If someone needed to warn Charik of potential danger, they'd be ready. However, it was best to keep quiet about such suspicions, for now. Still, the suspense on such an exciting and dangerous matter left Razi without much of an appetite. She  quietly nipped on small portions of food, awaiting her servant's return.

She didn't have to wait long.  Fifteen minutes later, her breathless attendant arrived at the door way, and bowed before the lady and her guest.
"Mr. Gaph is in the general drawing room," she explained.
Sha-Razi didn't have to be told twice; the woman sprung to her feet and smoothed out her skirts.
"Please follow me, Zsiree," she said as Jiipa politely waited for them to leave before taking the rear.

Razi lead the way to an elegantly designed room which glowed in the light of the giant windows. The brown walls decorated with giant panels of mosiac in beautiful gold, red, and orange hues.  Standing by a low rise polished wooden table a bit nervously and a little cross was the employer in question. Sha-Razi gave him a nod in acknowledgement.
"Good afternoon," she politely greeted as she boldly glared at him.
