Physical Description
Pale, with jet black hair and large, dark eyes, Nyla cuts a rather striking figure. Though rather slight of frame, she maintains an air of dark power around her- which admittedly is somewhat lessened by a kind smile and an easy blush. She's pretty enough, but most people would probably call her an "interesting" kind of pretty, with her stark coloring and slim frame.

She favors practical clothing, but always with a small flair or a few little accessories meant to catch the eye for just a moment, then be forgotten.

Personality
Kindhearted, with a gentle nature that was repressed for much of her life, Nyla often has to fight an ingrained wariness of showing that she actually cares about...well, anything.

But she does. Her greatest flaw tends to be caring too much. Her bakery has become known in the lower districts for low prices given to struggling families, and free bread passed around to those who have nothing whenever she has the chance.

Magic/Abilities
Her natural magic ability is rather small, but when augmented with blood magic she can perform massive spells that would normally require multiple casters all on her own.

Additionally, Nyla can call a variety of demons through the Veil, or simply contact them, if she chooses.

Relationships
Joseph Whitewood: foster father, teacher (deceased)
Isabella Alloran: mother
Lannor Alloran: father
Berrick Alloran: "uncle", actually her father's cousin, Alloran patriarch

History
Nyla was born to a family of powerful blood mages, people who augmented their natural magical abilities with their own and other's lifeblood through a variety of ancient spells and rituals passed down through their line for generations. Living and working on the outskirts of society in Serendipity, the Allorans were once a political force to be reckoned with, but by the time Nyla was born had faded to not much more than scholars, occasional teachers, and mercenaries.

Already a promising young mage, at the age of eleven Nyla showed she had another ability beyond her magic: a connection with the Veil and the ability to summon demons through from their plane. Natural born demonlords, those that come by the beginnings of their power without the aid of a demonic contract, are rare, and immediately Nyla's family began plotting about how she could be used to further their own ends.

Her training took a dark turn. The scars of their traditional blood magic already marked her body, but now they were joined with marks from burns, teeth, claws, all earned as she was forced to summon, fight, and eventually subdue more and more powerful demons. But she submitted to the training without argument, believing that her family new what was best.

At least for a few years. But Nyla was a gentle creature, and gradually the constant pain and violence began to wear away at her psyche. She dreamed of leaving, of just packing up and going somewhere else, anywhere else.

The darker sides of her family's traditions started to become more clear to her. She looked deeper into their history, past the power her parents and grandparents spoke of wistfully, to the boiling hatred and betrayal that marked their line. Ruthless assassinations, remorseless slaughter of innocents all in the name of furthering their power.

When her uncle, the family's patriarch, demanded she summon a demon and compel the creature to kill, she finally snapped. She summoned the demon, but instead of siccing the creature on the  stranger that had been thrown before her, she ordered it to attack her uncle. In the ensuing chaos, she grabbed the man she'd been ordered to kill and ran.

Joseph Whitewood, the man she'd saved by betraying her family, turned out to be a mage himself, a rival of her family. After hearing her story, he took Nyla under his wing, promising to teach her how to control her power without demons or blood magic. They grew quite fond of each other, and though without blood magic Nyla's power was mediocre at best, for some time she was happy. She even learned to contact demons through the Veil that were not creatures of violence and destruction, occasionally summoning them through to ask for help with a task or just to chat and learn more about her demonlord abilities.

Unfortunately, this peace only lasted four years. The Alloran family tracked down their wayward daughter and demanded her return. Joseph tried to fight them off, to protect her, but he was quickly cut down. Terrified, Nyla used the powers she'd forced herself to forget, and just barely managed to escape with her life, but bearing a long scar from her left shoulder to her right hip, a gift from her demon-ravaged uncle.

With no better ideas, she came to Connlaoth and forswore her magic altogether, blood magic or no, with the hope of hiding in the last place someone might expect a mage to go.

Well- except for the occasional flame demon summoned to help her out in the bakery.
