Once inside the carriage Eid started to take note of the shrieking left, forward wheel. The sound of boots against dirt road, horses panting lightly from the stretching ropes and the driver shifted his weight.
It must have been another one of those, odd sight's for the young lord to see. His usually calm butler methodically taking steps, preparing a particularly large crossbow he had pulled out from under the comfortable bench, Adelan hard oak and blacksmithing bolt's.
It was time to calm down again, feeling his heart rate slow. He couldn't completely loose his composure here, this was just another one of Scott's lessons.
"Lord, this may sound silly but allot of Adelan Noble's die trying to copy their heroes of old and that in itself is not a concern of mine, I am quite capable of protecting you from projectiles." Eid listened to his lords heart rhythm, while focusing on his face. He had taught Scott what it meant to lead men into battle, but the lord was not exactly an experienced one. He would have to join the army to get a firmer grasp of military warfare.
"If the men outside are attacked, will you exit this carriage and override Sir.Stevens order's with your own. Or will you trust his judgement? I may be your butler and the decision is yours but I'd prefer it if you made it now rather than on the spot. It gives me time to prepare. Against this sort of foe, Preparation is most appreciated."
Sir. Stevens did not have much awareness about what was going on about in the carriage nor in the forest. All he knew was that Eid would never have acted like this unless it was a serious chance that they would be attacked. After having made preparations, put out the fire and ensured that each man was prepared for the worst it was only a matter of time.
Out of the 10 man escort, he was the only experienced in mounted combat, all ten carried their throwing spears, sword and shield at the ready. Then it was a matter of their mercenaries. the two mercenaries had been double checked and checked again by Eid. Nothing had turned up. Steven shrugged his shoulders, eyeing the terrain lazily again. Then a shadowy silhouette crossed over the dirt road. A silhouette many adelans only saw once in their lifetimes, but easily recognizable. Noble, large and majestic. Even from that high up you could see it wasn't a bird. It sent that familiar tingling emotion he had felt since his first real battle down to his very core. "DRAGON!"
The urge to flee and hide in a corner as it did a pirouette before landing in front of their defensive lines, nonchalantly raising an eye at their futile barrier before roaring with brutal, cold vigour.
Sir.Stevens didn't manage to dismount nor hold on, hitting the ground with a metallic clang.
Experienced with this sort of landing he quickly rolled over and rose. The horse stood still despite the large threat to every one's life.
"Hold the column, don't engage unless it strikes."
It wasn't from round here, that much was noticeable. The blue scales and melting icicles where a dead giveaway. It's presence chilling the ground, pervading the air with its unnatural cold and causing frosted breath.
Stevens knew his men were no match for it, Simple math and experience. Sharpened steel against dragon hide never tended to work. "I am here for Eid. I know he is here!" It roared out, commanding they showed themselves.
Inside the Butler could feel his cold sweat chill into tiny droplets of ice.. He only knew one blue dragon arrogant enough to actually step out from the cold north to speak with him.
