He missed by an inch.
Maybe less, judging by the few hairs that had caught on the head of his arrow. Sighing, Theoden frowned in the direction his spooked prey had bolted, tapping the shaft against his leg. There probably wasn't much point in going after the thing now- besides, he already had enough game to make some decent trades in the nearest village.
Deciding that was his best bet, the elf made his way back to the quick camp he'd set up in the shade of a massive oak tree, starting to pack up his things. He'd lost three arrows on this trip, one broken and two vanished into the underbrush, so he'd have to make up for those soon.
With a soft grunt he hefted his now filled pack and set off toward civilization, moving silently through the trees with the ease of many years of practice, the three hares and half dozen pheasants he'd shot strung together and slung over one shoulder.
It shouldn't take him long to reach the trading outpost, at least he didn't think so. He'd only been in the woods for three days this time, he couldn't have wandered too far from two-legger settlements. Right?
Putting the thought from his mind, he began to sort of enjoy the walk, even whistling softly to himself as he strolled along. He wasn't hunting anymore, there was no need to keep silent.
Ugh, where is it!
Stygia's eyes narrowed as her massive, streamlined body cut through the late afternoon air. Damned elven ruins and their well camoflauged locations! How the hell was she supposed to spot a stone entrance no larger than a man through this foliage?
Shaking her head, she decided to circle about, but that was right about the time she heard a very distinct sound.
Whistling?
She focused on the source, and her silent wings brought her down lower so she could pick up a scent. She picked up the distinct smell of a man, combined with... elf?
An elf, then. A wanderer of the woods? She could smell the wilderness on him.
Perfect.
In a silent flash of black smoke, Stygia shifted into her half-human form, and glided down on her wings a fair distance away from the elf. Once she landed, she assumed a completely human fom, and, after a moment's consideration, decided to add a point to her ears and to make her skin just a bit fairer.
Her wings folded around her body and turned into a functional, yet form-catching travel robe, complete with a white shawl to go around her neck and over her head. The travel robe didn't show much skin, as she paired it with silk gloves that went up to the elbows and black boots with a little bit of heel to them, but it captured her perfect curves and plentiful features in a way that eluded words.
A pack to complete the look, and she merely opted to walk until she'd intersect with the wanderer's path, hoping to draw his attention by making sure to walk as casually through the woods as possible, stepping on any twigs in her path with prejudice.
Theoden suddenly stopped whistling, hearing the distinct sound of someone else's passage through the trees. He frowned. That was odd- he hadn't though he was that close to the trading post.
Instinctively wary, he moved toward the sounds, peering through the trees with a well practiced eye. He caught a flash of white and started to relax. No self respecting thief wore white, far too eye catching.
Still wary, but now decidedly less so, he moved toward the flash and the persistent crackle of underbrush. "Hello?" he called, trying to be friendly. Perhaps this stranger was lost? Whoever it was certainly wasn't used to the forest, what with all the nose he- or she- was making.
Stygia pretended to be oblivious to the approaching elf, only "noticing" him when he called out.
She stopped in her tracks, and as an added touch, put herself against a tree, peeking out from behind it in Theoden's direction.
"Who's there?" She called out, her acting as fine as ever.
Shoot, how did he respond to that? "Um, no one of consequence," he called back, moving toward the tree he'd seen her peek around. And her voice indicated she was definitely a she. "Uh, pardon me...ma'am...but are you lost?"
He stopped a few paces from the tree, not wanting to startle her, and shifted from foot to foot awkwardly.
"Lost?"
A gentle laugh from behind the tree, and Stygia made herself known. She had her white shawl drawn up over her head, contrasting her silky raven hair and her eyes (which were a piercing green in her fully human form).
"Far from it," she said, and she smiled at him as she placed a hand on her hip.
His eyes went very round and he could feel himself becoming tongue-tied before he'd even opened his mouth. "Oh, uh...well then I-I..." he stuttered out. Flushing he cleared his throat and reached up to rub the back of his neck, glancing away.
Gods, why did she have to be pretty?
"My apologies, miss," he mumbled, feeling as though his face was on fire. "I'll just- ahem- I'll leave you to...be about your business." Feeling awkward and silly, he shuffled his feet and turned to go.
"Oh, please remain a second!" Stygia said, and she quickly obstructed his path, making sure to keep her chest puffed out.
"I'm looking for something rather specific, and you look like a..."
She motioned to Theoden.
"Forester of some persuasion."
He stopped dead in his path, eyes flicking down for a moment before he realized that was not a safe direction to look and determinedly focused on her face.
"Oh. Well..." He offered a sheepish sort of smile. "I know these woods, ma'am, if that's what you're getting at." He tilted his head and ventured, "You need a guide then? That's what you're sayin'?"
"Oh, yes." Stygia said, and she smiled brightly.
"You look rather burdened, what with your haul. Are you headed to town?"
She stepped in close enough to test the boundaries, and joined her hands.
"If you are, I'll accompany you back. We can discuss terms there."
"I am, actually," Theoden mumbled, shifting his pack and his catch. He froze when she moved closer, skittish as a cat, then forced himself to relax. She was just being friendly.
"That sounds fine to me, ma'am," he said with a quick smile, turning slightly to start off back to town. After a moment he added a- perhaps slightl belated- "My name's Theoden, miss. What should I call you?"
"Stygia. Rather fortunate that I happened upon you, Theoden," Stygia said, and she moved to walk besides him.
"So you're a hunter?" she asked, and turned her head to look up at him (for he was rather tall!).
"Yeah." He shifted his catch slightly as he glanced down at her. It probably was a good thing they'd run into each other, for her sake. "How long have you been out here?"
"Oh, the better part of a day, I'd say. I came from the city."
Stygia put a hand on her chest, just above her breasts.
"I'm a student of archeology."
"Ah." His eyes instinctively followed the movement of her hand, then flicked quickly away and he flushed a bit. "Could I, um, ask what it is you're looking for, exactly?" he ventured cautiously. If she wanted his help finding it, he should probably know what "it" was.
"I'm looking for a rather old set of elven ruins," Stygia said.
"The underground village of Tír Tandölír, to be precise."
Theoden's eyebrows shot up and he looked at her, giving a low, appreciative whistle. "Well, you certainly are ambitious, Miss Stygia," he noted. "I'm no archaeologist, but I was under the impression that village has been considered lost for a good long time now."
Did she think he could help her because he was an elf? He hoped not- she was going to be disappointed.
"I' narrowed it down to these woods, I just..."
Stygia sighed. She let down her shawl in order to let her hair go free.
"It's a lot of ground to cover."
He nodded, snorting softly. "It is at that," he agreed. Stepping out of the trees onto a well traveled path, he glanced back at her over his shoulder. "Um...if you don't mind me saying so, Miss, you're dressed awful nice for a tramp through the woods. Maybe we can stop and grab you some more...practical clothes after I get rid of this lot." He hefted his catch as he spoke, letting his head tilt slightly at her.
"I'm dressed just fine," Stygia said, and gave Theoden a confident smirk.
"I'm a sorceress, after all."
"Oh." He blinked. "Well, um. Alright then." A sorceress. He was so out of his depth.
It seemed pretty clear that she could handle herself, but he couldn't help casting concerned glances at her as they walked along. She just didn't look like she should be so comfortable hiking through the woods like this.
"So," he said eventually as they were nearing the trading post. "Just what kinda help were you looking for. Course I'll do what I can," he added hurriedly. "Just wanna make sure I can live up to your expectations."
"Just a guide," Stygia said, and she looked him over. She smiled.
"I'm sure you won't disappoint."
Flushing, Theoden mumbled, "I'll do my best, ma'am."
They had reached the trading post now. "You'd best stick close," he suggested, glancing at her sidelong. "These people aren't always...polite."
"Don't you worry, I'll be just fine," Stygia said, and she led the way, putting a nice amount of sway to her hips.
"I'll be in the tavern. Don't keep me waiting," she hummed, and gave him a pleasant little wave as she headed over.
Letting out a breath, Theoden watched her go, shaking his head. Damn. What just happened?
Trying to focus, he made his way to Vern, a rugged man who usually bought his game for their pelts. After some good-natured haggling, he managed to score a few coins.
Well, the woman had said not to keep her waiting. He made his way to the tavern, giving a quick nod and smile to the few regulars who recognized him and raised their voices in welcome. His eyes flickered around the dimly lit space. Where had she gotten to?
Stygia waited in the back, occupying a small booth for two. She waved at Theoden, giving him another bright smile.
Smiling in return, Theoden wove his way across the room to the booth and slid onto a seat. "So." He propped his elbows on the table and rested his chin on his hands. "What exactly is it I can do for you, Miss Stygia?"
"Well, like I said, I want to hire a guide to take me to Tír Tandölír. I can describe the surrounding area, but I'm not familiar with the area," Stygia said.
He shrugged. "Like I said, I'll do what I can. Any description would be helpful- it may even be possible I've gone by the place without knowing it was there," he said with a small chuckle.
"Well, I know that the place lies downriver in a glen of rare trees. There are a lot of white flowers in the area as well."
Stygia cleared her throat.
"The entrance is set into the ground. The whole village lies beneath the earth."
Theoden tilted his head. "White flowers?" he repeated, musing. "Uh...are the petals sorta angular? Do you know?"
Maybe a little too specific of a question, but glens with flowers weren't exactly uncommon in the woods. He could think of two or three places that fit her description.
"Yes! Angular petals, those are the ones. "
Stygia thoguht for a moment.
"The glen's filled with white flowers, though. Just white flowers."
"I think I know the place," he said excitedly, giving her a quick grin. Scratching at his cheek, he asked, "You wanna head out now, or buy a drink or something first." He nodded toward the bar. "You said you'd been out there most of the day, you probably should at least have some water or something..."
"I'm fine," Stygia said, and after a few moments of silence, she looked back up at Theoden.
"Listen, I don't have any gold to pay you with, but if you get to where I need to go, I'll be very grateful," Stygia said, and she leaned forward a bit, putting her bust on display.
His eyes flicked down and back up, face going red. Was she implying what he thought she was implying? "Th-that's-" He winced slightly at the stammer and cleared his throat. "Um, don't worry about it. It's no trouble, really."
Face burning, he stood quickly and nodded toward the door. "Shall we then?"
Oh, was he going to do this for free? Even better! Still, he was a handsome one, and Stygia'd be lying if she said she wasn't curious. She'd never been with a wood elf...
"Thank you, then!" Stygia said, and she stood up.
"Let's go."
"Right. Let's." He flashed a quick, slightly awkward smile and led her out of the tavern, through the trading post and back into the woods.
Almost the instant he was in the trees Theoden began to relax. This was much better. Feeling more comfortable, he glanced at his companion as they walked. Should he make conversation? "So, ah," he started slowly, "what's got you so interested in this hidden ruin anyway? I mean, specifically- I know you said you're an archaeologist, but is there something...special about this place?"
"Well, I'll be the first archaeologist in Tír Tandölír. I can just imagine the potential for new discoveries."
She batted her hair.
"My bloodline runs back there as well."
"It does?" he gave her a quick, curious look and his eyes caught on her pointed ears. Ah. "You are an elf then," he noted with a smile. "I thought you might be, but I wasn't sure."
Flushing a bit, he added quickly, "Not that it matters or anything." Didn't want her think he was some sort of racist elitist.
Stygia gave Theoden a look, then a smile.
"Thank you for helping me. I'll be sure to credit you in the discovery."
"Oh, uh..." He rubbed the back of his neck, grinning sheepishly. "No need for all that, Miss. It's really no trouble, I'd be heading this direction anyway. Haven't hunted up this way in a while."
"Wow, you're pretty set on not accepting my thanks, aren't you?" Stygia teased, and she crossed her arms as she walked.
"A lot of guys would love to have my gratitude."
"No no, that's not what I meant!" Theoden said hurriedly, face heating again. "I just, uh, don't want you to be beholden to me. Or something." Ducking his head, he mumbled, "I appreciate your gratitude. Really."
He just wished she would quit crossing her arms like that. It was drawing his gaze to a place he really should avoid looking at.
"I don't feel beholden to you," Stygia said, and she managed a smile.
Gods, this one was thick, wasn't he?
"Folks've got all kinds of ways of showing their gratitude."
"Well. Um. Good," he mumbled, looking away. His face was positively on fire. Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair and said quietly, "Look, I- I'm sorry about- well, I'm not really good with people, and I'm sure I'm just coming across as this crude dunce-"
He snapped his mouth closed, going even redder, if that was possible. "And now I'm babbling. Sorry." He sighed again, dragging his hand down his face. Perfect. Just perfect.
"Shh," Stygia said, and she just put her finger on his lips.
"You talk too much."
She stood up on the tips of her toes and left a kiss on his cheek.
How he hadn't actually caught on fire at this point was a complete mystery to him.
Where before he'd been babbling, now he was rendered utterly speechless, gaping at her in silence. When his voice finally returned, all he could manage was a spluttered, "U-um...right. Sorry. I'll...shut up now."
Stygia giggled, and pat his cheek where she'd kissed it.
"Don't go burning down the forest."
She stepped to the side.
"Lead the way?"
"Lead the-? Oh! Yes, right." Turning on his heel, he set off at a rather brisker pace than he'd been walking before, willing the heat in his face to calm down.
"It shouldn't be much further," he said over his shoulder, trying to restore some normal conversation. "We'll be there well before sunset."
"Excellent. We'll have time to make camp and bed down," Stygia said.
She kept pace next to Theoden.
"Are all wood elves as tall as you?"
Make camp? He supposed he should have been expecting that- after all, she'd probably want a few days to explore the ruins. But we? Would she really want his company that long.
Shrugging it off as something he could address later, he glanced down at her and smiled a bit. "Most are," he answered with a soft chuckle. "It's not exactly a requirement though. And I believe I'm rather on the tall side, even for a wood elf."
"It's rare to find an elf bigger than most orcs," Stygia mused.
"You brought a bedroll, right?"
"I- yes," he answered, a little startled by the abrupt question. "But, I mean- I only have supplies to make camp for one. I wasn't exactly expecting company." A thought struck him and he mused, "But you're a sorceress, right? Can you, I dunno...magic up a tent or something?"
Stygia waved the issue away.
"Oh, no bother. We'll just share."
Theoden choked on a breath. "Um, are you s-sure?" he stammered out, looking at her with wide eyes. "I mean, I don't mind exactly, but that doesn't seem entirely appropriate..." She was some fancy learned sorceress, she shouldn't be sharing a bedroll with a common hunter.
Stygia gave him a look. Of course, he didn't mind.
"Well, it wasn't appropriate to offer you a night with me as payment for helping me out, but I still did," she said, and then smiled.
"Besides, the nights get cold around here. The extra warmth'll work wonders."
"Well, yes, I suppose that's true," he mumbled, flushing at the reminder.
Mercifully, they had almost reached their destination. He stopped a few lengths away from the glen and looked at her. "Does this seem like the right place?" he asked, gesturing at the masses of white flowers ahead of them.
"It does," Stygia said, and she knelt down to examine a flower. Angular petals, like she'd said.
"Let's find a spot for camp."
Theoden nodded, glancing around. Moving toward the shadow of a large tree without too many protruding roots. "Will this do?" he asked, looking at Stygia. It was sheltered by the tree's branches, and the ground was clear enough for a small fire.
"That'll do just fine," Stygia sai, and she looked back to Theoden. She stared u;p at him, trying to catch his eyes. She smiled.
Her met her eyes and swallowed, offering a small smile in turn. He was being ridiculous, he needed to relax. "Why don't I get a fire going?" he offered quietly, kneeling and letting his pack slip from his shoulders to the ground. "It'll get a bit chilly once the sun goes down."
"That would be best," Stygia said.
"I'd rather conserve my spellpower."
Nodding, Theoden laid out his bedroll and set about clearing a space for a fire. Satisfied, he stood and stretched his arms over his head. "I'll go get some wood. Er, you just...relax a second." He nodded at the bedroll with a sheepish smile. "It's not much, but it's better than the ground."
Theoden went to go get wood, and Stygia got comfortable. She slipped out of her robe, leaving her in silky undergarments that existed more to show her off than actually cover her. She slipped into the bedroll, and she held her hand out, a book appearing into it.
She read it while she waited.
It didn't take him long to gather enough wood for a small fire and he returned quickly enough. "Hey, would you mind grabbing some flint out of my pack-"
He glanced up and actually registered Stygia and his voice suddenly choked off, heat rushing up over his neck and face. The pile of branches he held clattered to the ground and he yelped, "Sorry! I didn't- um- you're- why-"
He whipped around to put his back to her, trying to remember how to breathe and force his body to not react the way it was. She really was quite attractive... No, stop that!
Stygia casually glanced up from the book, and smirked. She was having way too much fun with this.
She stood up from the bedroll, and knelt down by Theoden's pack.
"Oh hush, quit being such a child. Come get your flint."
She spoke as she stood back up, holding the flint in her hand.
On reflex, Theoden mumbled a petulant, "I'm not being a child." With a deep breath, he turned and gathered up the dropped wood, moving cautiously forward into their little camp.
"Thanks," he muttered, taking the flint from her while trying not to look directly at her. Gods what a day! Grumbling to himself, her struck a spark and nursed it into a small flame.
Finally, he chanced a look at Stygia, determined to appear as unaffected as possible. And failing miserably as a blush reheated his cheeks. "Aren't you gonna be cold like...that?" he gestured to her vaguely.
"No, I'll have you to keep me warm," Stygia said, and she joined her hands at her abdomen, pretending not to notice how that smushed her breasts together ever so slightly.
"Do you have an objection to that?"
"Um, n-no." He swallowed, trying to keep his eyes on her face. Failing. Trying again. "I suppose not, if that's what you want..."
Clearing his throat, he sort of shuffled around to put his back to the tree. "Well, um- if you wanna be up with the sun to explore these ruins of yours, we should get some shut eye." He decided to pretend his voice didn't squeak in a rather undignified manner at the end of that sentence.
"Mm, I'm in no rush," Stygia said, and she walked up to him, placing a hand on his chest.
"Gods, such a beast of an elf," she muttered to herself.
His eyes widened and he pressed back against the tree. Swallowing thickly, he glanced down at her hand and then back up at her face. Her strange eyes seemed to hold him captive.
"Um, b-beast?" he repeated, feeling more like a mouse. "I don't- ahem. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"
Stygia looked up at him, catching his eyes. She smiled.
"It's a very good thing," Stygia said, and her eyes wandered over him.
The hand on his chest went to a finger, and she trailed down him and stopped at his abdomen.
"I wonder if you're proportional..."
Theoden's breath hitched, skin burning in the wake of her touch. "I- I don't...ah-" He coughed out a nervous chuckle, pressing back against the tree so hard the bark bit painfully into his skin.
Stomach flipping, he reached up to grip her wrist and pull her hand away- but found himself simply letting his fingers circle around her forearm, staring at her with wide eyes. "Gods, you're beautiful," he muttered, almost sounding irritated about it. Then he flushed and dropped his eyes.
Stygia smiled at his little compliment.
"And you're handsome," Stygia said, bringing her other hand up to pass it over his cheek.
The hand on his abdomen remained still. She didn't want to push him too hard just yet.
"I, uh, I dunno about that," he muttered, but he was smiling a bit, pleased by the compliment and the soft touch.
Realizing he still held her wrist, he pulled his hand back quickly. "Oh, sorry." Well...now he didn't know what to do with his hands. They sort of hovered awkwardly near her shoulders, then fell to either side of his hips, palms flat against the ground.
Without really making the conscious decision to do so, he found himself tilting his head into her touch, a small sigh escaping him. He didn't get contact like this often- maybe he was a little starved for it without realizing it.
Stygia smirked, and decided that while insufferably awkward, he'd do. She was intent on getting the most out of this excursion. Besides, she'd rather experience him now, case she had to kill the little worm later.
Giving him a confident little smile, Stygia shifted so that she was straddling his lap, and she put her arms around his neck.
"What's there to doubt?"
Well, there was really no hiding the way his body was reacting to her like this. His fingers clutched at the ground and he sucked in a sharp breath, staring at her with wide eyes. "I- I don't- you-"
Words were not happening. Swallowing, he tried to glance away, but there was nowhere to look. "What do you want?" he asked quietly, starting to realize that he was on the edge of giving her just about anything she asked for.

"I want to thank you," Stygia said, and she smiled when she felt something tightening up beneath her. She gave her hips a tiny rock, eyes narrowing when she found what she was looking for.
"Will you let me?"
His breath hitched again, hips lifting a bit instinctively when she moved. "Um, I...okay," he murmured oh so articulately, still looking at her with wide eyes. He wasn't entirely convinced that the events of the past day weren't some vivid hallucination at this point.
She was just so bewitching. She'd said she was a sorceress- was she using magic on him? He realized he didn't really care either way, hesitantly lifting a hand to brush his fingers against her waist questioningly.
Stygia caught his little questioning touch, and she lifted a hand to press his more fully onto her waist. Her hand passed over the fabric of his top.
"You're wearing too much," she said, and then giggled.
If this was a hallucination, he was okay with it. Her giggle brought a small smile to his lips and he shifted, wriggling out of his shirt and tossing it aside.
"Better?" he asked a little cheekily, though he was still blushing. He may be awkward, but he at least knew he didn't look terrible with his shirt off.
"Much better," Stygia said, passing a hand over his chest, visibly impressed by the muscles. She didn't even need to act that out, either! Beast of an elf indeed.
She paused, and looked up to Theoden, meeting his eyes. After a few moments, she leaned in to kiss him, and her hands went down to the buckle of his pants.
Theoden arched up into the kiss, a little hesitant but definitely willing. He felt her hands drift down and swallowed a small sound, reaching down between them to help her with the buckle before letting his hands slide up her legs to rest on her hips.
"W-wait. Wait." He pulled away, forcing himself to breathe even as he looked at her face. "Look, this isn't something I- I don't usually-" He wasn't quite sure what he was trying to say exactly, sighing in frustration and eventually settling for, "You sure about this?"
Jeez, how much talking did it take? Stygia was so used to having boisterous men who'd leap onto her with a wiggle of her finger. She'd forgotten what it was like to bed someone who wasn't as eager.
"I'm sure. I was sure when I asked you in the tavern, and I'm sure now," Stygia said.
Now, to see what he had in store for her.
Stygia lifted up a bit so she could pull his pants away, and she was pleased with what she saw.
"Big boy, aren't we?"
He flushed scarlet, but his hips lifted to make it easier to wriggle his pants off. "I, um, well..." He didn't know what to say to that, so he decided not to respond, instead reaching out to gently touch her face.
His hand trailed down over her shoulder to her back, fingers hesitating at the fabric of her undergarments. "Can I?" he asked quietly, meeting her eyes a little hesitantly.
"Go ahead," Stygia said, leaning into his hand on her face. One of her hands slipped downwards and between them, and she wrapped her fingers around his shaft, in order to get a feel of him.
Theoden moved to pull the flimsy garment off- but then her hand found him and his breath hitched. Inhaling slowly, shuddering, he closed his eyes for a moment as he tried to get a hold of himself.
His hand moved almost on reflex to free her of the article of clothing, fingers tracing hesitantly over her skin, just soaking in the feel of it. "Beautiful," he murmured absently, tilting his head at her. Cautiously, he let his hand drift down to the small of her back, then lower, hesitantly pulling her against him.
When Theoden pulled her closer, she ended up rubbing against him through the fabric of her panties, and she let out a sfot breath, her cheeks coloring slightly. She smirked at him, and stood up, giving him a great view of a particular area as she slipped the bottom half of her undergarments off.
She gazed down at him before lowering herself back onto his lap, giving him another few kisses before she pulled back, scooting backwards. She gripped his member a bit tighter, and brought her head down to its level.
"It looks even better up close," she said, before giving the head a short lick.
He moaned softly when she rubbed against him, unable to help himself, and watched with heated cheeks as she removed the last of her clothes.
Then she was back on him, kissing him, and he arched against her, hands gravitating toward her hips. He frowned a bit when she pulled away- then his eye went wide when he realized what she was doing.
He shuddered, head falling back a bit as he propped himself up on his elbows to look down at her.
Stygia delighted in Theoden's reactions. Truly, the squirming of a virgin was the sweetest squirming of all.
Or at least she was sure he was a virgin.
She swirled her tongue around the tip a bit, before she took him into her mouth, moaning softly.
"Oh gods..." Theoden groaned softly, resisting the urge to buck his hips with difficulty. His fingers clawed at the ground. He reached for her reflexively, desperately wanting to touch her face, her hair, anything to extend the contact.
Stygia kept Theoden's hips nice and steady as she started to bob up and down, giving out little moans as she worked. She opened her eyes and gazed up at him, and the corners of her mouth curling up into a smile before she took his entire length into her mouth.
A shudder ran through him and he clenched his fists in an effort to keep in control, nails biting so hard they drew blood. "Stygia," he gasped out, meeting her eyes.
