The moonlight flooded its pale light onto the forest's dense, emerald evergreen trees. The long grass swayed in the wind, and a creature stepped into a clearing. It was a wolf. He was larger than the average male wolf in height, and was a black in color. His eyes were a startling red, with a bit of orange and yellow flakes. His fur was unusually clean, seemingly nothing had dirtied or matted it. It was long fur that created a mane around his shoulders. He, oddly enough, had no other wolves around him. He sniffed the air, and spotted a rabbit. He ran after it. Shortly, he caught it, and it shrieked as he snapped its spine. He devoured the rabbit quickly, as any wild carnivore would. He washed his face in a stream, and lifted his head to look around. Then, he ran to a spot in the clearing, tilted his head to the sky, and howled.

((lol, I had that christmas song stuck in my head...'and a partridge in a pear tree...'))

Night was always the time for the hunt to begin.

As was usual, the young wolf awoke before most of the others had stirred. It was her job to wake most of the others anyway. She began her inspection of herself, carefully grooming the twigs and knots from her hair. She wasn't a wolf, far from it, but she behaved like she was. Her hair was a soft grey colour, but not from age, just from design, though it was very long, having never been cut before. The tanned skin was marred with dirt and had a few red marks here and there. These were from another wolf of course, but it hadn't been something bad, they had been playing.

She often played with the other wolves, mostly the younger ones, as when they got older playing wasn't their top priority.

She ran her hands through her hair, carefully nibbling at it to remove any knots or foreign particles. That was something else, she had hands. Thumbs. She wasn't a wolf, she thought herself very strange from the other wolves, but they treated her like she was just one of them. That was always nice actually. They didn't consider her different. The rest of the wolves were being roused from their sleep. They would go on the hunt, but she didn't find herself that hungry.

There was something that made the wolves uneasy, she could sense it. This usually meant that there was something that wasn't supposed to be. Last time it had been some two legged creatures, but this wasn't the same uneasiness. The last time they had been like this, it meant there was some other creature, perhaps one of those very large deer that had the giant antlers. They were dangerous, the sheer bulk, the hooves, and the antlers were very dangerous and deadly. However, it was a good meal.

The woman decided she would take it upon herself to find out. With a purposeful crawl she left their den and started her run. She would crawl amongst the wolves like they did, but when on the run, she found that becoming a two legged was a lot more efficient. She could run fast, and she could manoeuvre quite a lot easier.

There was a lot to be done, but it was soon apparent that it wasn't a large deer that was out there. The howl that broke the air meant it was another wolf, one that wasn't part of the pack. However, it wasn't another pack like they sometimes encountered, but...just one wolf. Just one howl.

She slowed down as she approached a clearing, noticing the shape within it. Her eyes were adjusted for night, she could see in it clearly, very clearly, her life had been darkness usually, during the day she stayed inside the den to ensure she could see at night. The wolf was a lot larger than the wolves in her pack, save for the alphas, but he didn't have normal looking fur...and the eyes were not normal either.

She let out a low whine, getting down on her belly with her legs tucked in. A sign of submission, in case the other wolf was in a foul mood. She didn't want it to attack, she knew she'd never be able to take it. Angering the other wolf would be most unwise. Perhaps it was just passing through, just walking through the forest. That was a hope to say the least.

Tristan, after his howl, realized another being had approached him. He turned quickly, in case they were hostile. Instead, he saw a human woman, who was definatly not hostile. He was confused for a moment. But, he figured, that anything could happen, and he shouldn't question nature and it's oddities. He approached her, showing no signs of hostility. He didn't want her to be scared off. He was quite curious of the 'wolf' before him. He sniffed her, in a friendly introduction. He knew, in the wild, that being friendly could lead bad places, but he didn't think she would attack unless he did first. Plus, he was larger.

Anonymous

She let out a definitive whine as the wolf approached her. She had to act properly, make sure she didn't give off any improper signals that couldn't be misconstrued. She didn't want the other wolf to get angry or view her as a threat. He was the larger wolf, the actual wolf, though the strangest one she had encountered before, but he was probably the more powerful. Slowly she raised herself up inch by inch until she was on her knees with her arms horizontal, supporting her as she sniffed him.

He smelt of blood.

Animal blood however, which was a good thing. It meant that he had hunted and probably was not interested in much more than relaxing. Wolves got lazy after a nice meal, they would clean their fur, maybe play a little bit, but they were more agreeable after a meal, which meant so long as you could fill the belly of a wolf, you could last another day.

She kept her head somewhat low, and tried to keep her neck exposed. She wanted to show that she knew he was the stronger, and that he was in control. However, she felt the proper thing to do would be to bring this wolf to the pack. She gave out a small yapping noise before she turned and started walking back the way she came. She did turn to look at him and yipped before she started running off, having hoped she conveyed her want for him to follow. He should meet the Alpha at least, to let him know that he wasn't a threat. Wolves could be terribly territorial, and when there was a pack-less wolf involved it could be made all the worst. Sometimes it could be disastrous, the new male was looking to become pack leader. A fight could ensue...but the wolf hadn't bit her or wanted to fight her, so she was sure that the Alpha male would be safe in his Alpha position.

Tristan realized she wanted him to follow, and trotted after her. He figured he should go along with this, or else he would most likely get in trouble with her pack. He didn't want trouble. He didn't like hurting others, unless it was needed to make things better in the end. He ran after her, noting how she ran and her appearence. When he reached the pack, he kept his nice conduct and got curious and cautious stares from the other wolves.

Anonymous

The other wolves int eh pack regarded with curiosity, but it wasn't because of what she was, but because she had brought something with her. It was another wolf, and that put them on edge. It was apparent that the wolves didn't see her as something strange, they openly accepted the woman as one of their own. She noted that the pack was a bit lighter, it meant that some of them were out on the hunt. However, trotting from the cave were the Alphas of the pack, their leader and his mate.

When the leader, the biggest wolf of the pack regarded her, she instantly dropped to her belly again and let out a low whine. The leader slowly trotted over, his teeth slightly bared as he saw the new intrusion, this new wolf that wasn't part of their pack.

What the wolf did next would decide the entire outcome. He could issue a challenge, or submit himself to the Pack Leader's will. She let out a whine, indicating that he wasn't a threat, and perhaps that she wished he wouldn't kill the new wolf. There was always the fear that a new wolf would try such at hing, but she didn't believe this Wolf had such intentions. He was already bigger than the average wolf, and if he wanted a pack, he'd have one by now. But she had found him alone in the woods, which meant quite the opposite.

This was not a wolf that was a threat, at least, that was her general hope.

Anonymous

Tristan copied the she-wolf's action, and submitted to the leader. He didn't want trouble. He wanted to be a friend of the pack. Allthough he wasn't allways a wolf, he respected them a lot. He waited carefully to see what the leader would do. He really did hope this wouldn't go to violence. After all, he just was trotting in the forest and hadn't really meant to run into these wolves.

Anonymous

The large wolf sniffed the new wolf carefully, cautious, teeth still bared. However, with his action of submission, the tense atmosphere slowly relaxed. With one last sniff the Alpha turned and went back to the entrance of the Den and lay down, his mate taking up a spot beside him. Slowly the girl got back up and yipped happily.

He had been accepted to a degree. The wolf wasn't thought to be a member, but his presence was accepted and would be tolerated for the time being. Usually by day the wolf would have to leave, or else prove that he wanted to join the pack.

The rest of the wolves relaxed a lot more, some coming up to sniff the new, strange wolf. The girl sat patiently on her haunches, panting as wolves did, her tongue lolling out the side of her mouth as if laughing. She had seen wolves do this on occasional, once when a rather proud young wolf had spilled down an embankment into a mud pile. The wolves had found it quite humorous, and the young wolf had spent hours with his tail between his legs in embarrassment. When the rest of the wolves had finally moved away, she moved to sit beside the wolf. Her stomach was slowly telling her that she was getting hungry. She gave a small bark at him, as if inviting him along before she started out for the forest once more.

There had to be a small creature around that could be caught, or perhaps the wolves that had left tracked something bigger. She'd have to investigate, and that wouldn't be too difficult. They had specific areas that they stayed in and hunted usually, where the creatures usually were.

Tristan relaxed considerably when the Alpha had accepted him...for now. It was always a good thing when relations with others went well. He greeted the other wolves back. He had just eaten, but went along with the she-wolf when she barked. If the other wolves treated her as one of their own, then he would too. He sniffed around as he followed, looking for something to catch. He saw a rabbit, and darted after it. When he came back to his new friend, he placed the rabbit on the ground and nudged it twords her. He wasn't hungry, and felt like being nice anyway. He was thankful that she had been nice to him so far, and felt like repaying it.

Anonymous

She had started her hunt, but was surprised when her new friend had left and reappeared with what appeared to be a rabbit in his mouth. She was rather impressed by his skill, but she couldn't fault him. He had better senses, while hers were tuned from living with wolves they would never be up to the same senses that wolves had. They were built for better abilities, and she sadly was lacking such things. However she was able keep up with them just fine despite the lacking abilities. She got down low and began to dig into the rabbit, tearing it and gnawing at it, ripping it apart to get at the delicious flesh.

She may not have been a wolf, but she seemed to have no problem eating raw meat. That was from her upbringing however. If you didn't eat raw meat, you didn't eat period. It became a staple to her diet. When she was done she began to clean her face and hands off, ridding them off dirt and blood. When she was done she made a satisfied noise before playfully nipping at her new friend and then running off. While some felt tired after a meal, she felt more alive and more alert, and found she had so much more energy to burn.

Anonymous

Tristan was happy to see her accept the food thankfully. He had never seen a human eat raw meat, but he figured she didn't have much a choice on that. It was probabaly good to her, anyway. He didn't expect the nip that he recieved and the playfull running off. He ran after her, equally playful. He nipped her back, and ran off, giving her a soft bark. He ran through the trees, and he panted.

Anonymous

She responded to his bark with one of her own, turning on heel and going after him. She was fast, there was no doubt about that, she was easily able to stay at a run with the pack. She caught up to the other wolf and barked at him, nipping at his haunches before she made a dash to the nearest tree, quickly scaling it with ease. One thing she had learned, was that climbing had the best advantage. She could wait for an unwary creature to pass underneath and she could jump it, and if she wanted to get away from another predator, most of them couldn't get her in the tree.

She sat precariously on a branch, once more panting and her tongue hanging out before she barked at him a few times. She did however climb back down, sitting on her haunches as she stared at the other wolf, once more her tongue hanging out in a silent laugh. She always did like meeting new wolves, and this one was a very nice one at least.

Anonymous

Tristan barked back up at her when she went in the tree. When she came down, he trotted over to her and sat next to her. He joined her in her silent laugh, also amused. He looked up at the sky. The gazed at the moon, the stars, and the inky blackness. In joy at finding food and a friend, he howled at the sky once more.

Anonymous

Her eyes followed the curious gaze of the other wolf as he looked upward to the sky. She always found the sky to be...interesting. She didn't really understand what she saw, but she found them relaxing and peaceful. They didn't hurt her eyes either to look at, not even the big white thing that seemed to grow and shrink with each night. During the day, the large bright thing make her eyes hurt, but nothing at night did that. She liked that.

Her new found friend began to howl, and she lifted her head and let out a long howl as well. It was no surprise that it sounded just like a real wolf, she had years of practice and had to learn to howl like them. She didn't howl a lot, but this was a very special circumstance.

After the howl, she sat back and watched her friend, as if expecting him to know what to do next. She had played a little bit, eaten, and howled at the moon. The rest of the time was usually spent with the pack, caring for the young or clearing the den of any sticks or bones that had been dragged in. Now though she had a companion! A new wolf that wasn't part of the pack, she was at a bit of a loss. She also felt a little responsible for him, since she had brought him to the pack and vouched for him in a way.

Anonymous

Tristan got up and stretched. He was rather tired. It had been a long day for him, and he had traveled great distances. He was happy to be around other wolves, but he knew he wasn't truly accepted. He trotted off, knowing they wouldn't let him in their dens. He barked a goodbye to the she-wolf he had became friends with and ran off. He made himself a sleeping-place and closed his eyes.

Anonymous

As she watched her new friend start to go off, she tried to voice something...anything. All she could manage was a half whiny bark. She couldn't actually ask him to stay, more so because...well, she wasn't the Alpha. She liked this new wolf, there was something refreshing about him. Maybe it had been so long since she'd met a new wolf, the whole thing was a novelty. She did hope that he wasn't leaving the forest and moving on. He had just seemed tired, and it was probably for the best that he didn't go back to the den. The Alpha had been generous enough to allow him into his territory, asking to stay at the den probably would have pushed it.

With a final bark as he left into the dense forest she decided to head back to the den. Some of the wolves had returned with a bit of food, but she had already eaten thanks to her friend. She did remember to bring back what was left of the rabbit, as some of the pups wouldn't mind the small snack. She set about cleaning the cave they all lived in, ensuring the bones were removed and the sticks cleared out.

Most of the night was spent playing with the pups and the younger wolves, or taking them down to the nearby stream so they could drink. It was just like a regular night, though she wondered how that strange-eyed wolf faired out in the forest. When the night was slowly ending her pack all retreated into the den for the day. Some would be standing guard and some would go outside, but after playing so much with the young wolves, she felt that she may sleep the entire day away, unless one of the wolves nudged her awake.

Always a possibility.

Tristan woke in the evening. He sat up in his resting place and looked around. He got up quickly and started running. He didn't really know where he was going, he just ran. The wind blew his fur against his body as he ran. He stopped next to a stream and lapped up the water eagerly. Tristan yawned and sat in the field of long grass where he had met the she-wolf. He wondered if he would see this friend of his today. He didn't want to just run off and leave her; he had lost all too many friends before in his life. Even his brother. This friend of his made him happy. It made him feel like he had a purpose of being around others. He called to the she-wolf with a bark she may or may not have heard. Probabaly would, if she was nearby.

Her sleep had been thankfully undisturbed, and the nightly ritual began once more. Ceena always had a good sense of when to awake, she had never really thought about why, but she liked being the only one up first. It gave her time to help out the den and clean up any mess that had been made. Sticks that pups brought in, or bones to chew on were removed to the outside, placed neatly near some bushes so they wouldn't be a disturbance to any of the wolves when they walked out. Then she began to comb through heir hair and remove any tangles, knots, or twigs. After grooming herself, she set out to find herself a light bit of food.

Her hunt managed to nab herself a somewhat older than most rabbit, one that was slow and unaware. She ate good however, and when it was over, her face and hands were covered with blood, a bit of fur, and some dirty. She headed to the nearest stream, having memorized most of the nearby locations of interest. Like the streams. She washed her hands and her face off, sadly she found she didn't have the tongue ability that dogs had to clean their mouths off.

After she found herself cleaned off, she heard something not far away. A bark. It was familiar to her, and she let out a resonating howl to answer to it before running toward the source of the noise. It was the wolf! The one from before with the strange eyes. She let out an excited bark as she broke into the clearing, slowing down and getting back into a more wolfy position. She barked once more at the wolf as she approached him. She had hoped she'd see him again, and she had been right.

Anonymous

Tristan calmly watched as she happily greeted him with an excited bark. He trotted over to her and greeted her. Then, he started to trot away, giving Ceena a bark to tell her to follow. He broke into a run, through trees and fields. He came to a stop near a waterfall. He lapped up some more water and invited Ceena to drink also. He jumped in, dissapearing into the dark water, and jumped back out. He shook himself off, mouth silently laughing.

Anonymous

Like an excited puppy, she barked in return, acknowledging that she was to follow, trotting off after him. Though, the moment his pace picked up, hers did as well, until she once more was on two legs, running after the wolf. She didn't tire, her stamina was matched to the wolf, and when he stopped, she did as well, jumping back onto all fours as she slowed to a stop as she noted the rushing water of the waterfall. She had seen one before, this one actually, and she was always impressed with it. The water though, was rather cold, but she happily drank of it like he did, barking afterward in satisfaction. Nothing wrong with a nice cool drink of water.

However, she did not expect him to suddenly jump into the water. Nervously she barked as he disappeared under the dark water, starting to pace along the edge trying to spot her companion. Her worry was for naught as her friend suddenly jumped out of the water once more, shaking himself off to clear the water. She let out a rather happy noise as she got sprayed with a bit of water, shaking herself as well to clear the water that had sprayed onto her. She wanted to run some more, she knew of a small cliff that was rather entertaining to look out from, so with a few barks she took off at high speeds.

She could remember where to go, the proper landmarks, the deadfalls, everything that was needed to find the cliff-side. It took a while, but soon she was slowing to a stop when she came to the edge of the cliff. It overlooked more of the forest, but this was as far as she had ever been. She always wanted to go down, there were ways, but it was so far from her den and her family, that she never would venture. Looking up at the moon she let out a long howl.
