The hood on his head was soaking with rain.  The cloth was thick, but its moisture didn't surprise him.  It was very earlier in the raining season from what he read in the stars before the clouds covered them up.  Their alignment was just right; it was always like this in this part of the world when the wandering Serpent sign was about to manifest in the sky.  It could take from days to weeks before it would show up.  But when he'd been here before, he there wasn't a doubt that it would be coming soon.  His luck always seemed to worsen when that constellation was present.

Maybe it was the mere knowledge of its arrival that caused nearly his entire life to cascade before his eyes.  Maybe, but he wouldn't bet money on it.  He needed a rest, some respite, some time away from the tribe.  And where the mountains of the Thunderblacks usually afforded that, he'd spent to much time there already.  He needed to see a different kind of wilderness before he would return.  There was no concreteness of how long he would be away.  That was all up in the air, much like this rain that was pounding down on him.

The small merchant boat lurched in the waters as it sailed forward.  The rains, while calm, were a good indicator that a storm would be well on its way.  Their gentle patter on his darkened, tattooed face was calming, perhaps as nature's way of trying to reassure him that this migration for a time was the right decision.  Perhaps he shouldn't consider this running away.  It was a more of a time to commit to something else for a while.

The first mate of the ship tapped him on the shoulder, holding a lantern for sight.  He was human and couldn't see in the pitch black like an Umbraeon could.  Hysaeda turned and looked at the middle-aged man.  He wore spectacles that were running down with streams of rain.  "How're ye doing there, sir?"

"Good," Hysaeda replied simply.  He'd refused to wear the tarp that was offered to him.  Instead he was content with the green and brown robeshirt he wore.  It wasn't like his old cuirass, but that was too mangled, beyond repair, to be worn anymore.  He didn't care to fix it before he departed from the Thunderblacks, but it didn't matter anymore.  It was a remnant of the self that he left back in the mountains.

"The cap'n wanted me to tell ye that we're five points off the shore of Thanatos Island.  We should be 'riving in the next half hour, sir."

"Thank you."  He nodded to the first mate as he about-faced and walked off back to his cabin.

Even though he was getting wet to the core, Hysaeda preferred to stay out here.  He liked the rain, it was soothing to him even as his mind race.  He'd asked the captain of the ship, which was aptly named Asunder, to make a drop off at the tip, in the wilderness parts rather than letting him off at the main city's port.  From there she would rendezvous back to her original destination.  The apprentice paid well for his passage and asked to be left alone despite most of the crew's curious eyes.  They probably had never seen an Umbraeon before.  That didn't surprise him.  Most didn't as his kind was cooped in the darkest recesses of the southern Adelan mountains.

The half hour came and went like nothing, and before he knew it, the smaller rowboat stopped off before hitting the shore.  The rain didn't let up even now as Hysaeda waded through the water, watching the rest of them slip away into the water and back to Asunder that was anchored not to far away.  As they did so, his feet marched onto the moist soil and through the treeline ten feet away.  He didn't know what he was looking for in this wilderness.  But more likely than not, whatever it was it would find him.

The cloak around him was heavy from its wetness, but he tossed it over one shoulder and reached for the bow on his shoulder and unleashed an arrow from his quiver.  He pulled it slightly taut and carried it in front of him.  This would be a new hunting season and there was game to be had in this wilderness.

Hmph. Trust them to be to pristine for dirty work. Mhaji had always been the one that was made to do everything, none of the other girls had even offered to go collect flora for their new dance routine so she was nominated by the other girls. Perhaps it was because she didn't get along with any of them but she knew it was because they all envied her skill. It wasn't like it was that much trouble anyway, Mhaji had gone out and collected flora loads of times, the only thing that worried her was the feeling of the wilderness. To her it felt as if she was being watched, every step she took something would move in the distance, but right now she had to ignore the feeling; All she had to do was a grab a few flowers and leave.

Mhaji stepped into a little clearing remembering that there had been some beautiful flowers in here last time she had came in search of them, this time was no different. There were probably around ten or so different types and she took two of each and pocketed them into a little bag that she carried over her shoulder. As she straightened herself up she got an interesting whiff of something, it didn't seem, well, natural. It smelt foreign, like it didn't belong. Curiously Mhaji stepped out of the clearing and walked towards where the odour was coming from, she was getting it in little drifts sometimes she would catch it but then it would suddenly disappear.

Becoming angry with herself Mhaji turned around and trudged back towards where she had came from, just as she took a step a crunch arrived in her ears. She whipped around her ghostly white hair flowing into her face; it seemed as if she wasn't alone.

"Hello?" Mhaji said hesitantly her thanati accent clearly audible, she tilted her head from left to right looking around for the source of the sound.

Mhaji spat in the direction she thought it was coming from, but clearly she had been hearing things, there didn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary here.

Hysaeda was trained in the arts of stealth and discretion.  Back home, hunting, especially by night, was exceptionally rewarding when one was able to maintain their cloak of night.  Hysaeda had trained his hunting skills for more than a century and a half, learning to use his environment to his advantage, managing to stalk prey twice his size and take it down with a single arrow when they least expect it.  He was dangerous when he was in his element.  And an evening like this, especially with the rain pattering down to obscure a normal person's view, he was most definitely in his element.

Of course, he didn't just come here to hunt.  By no means was Hysaeda just a heartless killer.  No, there were rules to the hunt.  Here in this wilderness, he wanted to use this as a sort of retreat.  There would be no endless, brutal slayings of the fauna here.  A person could never successfully survive in the wild without working in tandem with nature herself.  She was one female, he would always be able to respect, no matter what.  Hysaeda endured her harshness and cruelties enough times to know that she would claim the respect she demanded, even if she had to squeeze it out of you.

This was a foreign land, one he could recall visiting before.  He'd been to Thanatos Island before, but the capital city where he would trade his skins and other goods for supplies and trinkets to pass through to his home tribe, but never in the wild.  He never saw the need.  Even now, he wasn't sure what to make of this place.  The plants were larger, wilder, than he imagined they would be.  It was almost warm despite the wind.  A shiver passed through him at the thought of a similar setting he remembered from many years ago.  From then, he gripped the bow tighter and pulled the string until he heard it stiffen against his fingers.

Hysaeda ventured forth carefully, his sandal-boots making light, if non-existent prints in the underbrush of the soil.  Something was near, he could feel it.  Then he heard a female voice nearby.  Dear Umbra!  Hysaeda turned in the direction of the voice.  There were a few trees between him and a figure he could make out with moonlight clarity and he was ready to launch the arrow if she gave him an excuse.  He crouched low and, with the hood of his cloak over his head, he would have probably looked like some ghoul.  "Halt!  You there!  How dare you spit at me?  Who do you think you are?"

Hearing the voice Mhaji couldn't help but jump of fright into the air. She hadn't been expecting to run into anything this evening. What made everything worse though was the constant patter of rain, it wasn't harsh rain at all but it still obscured her view of whatever it was that had just spoke. Despite the patter of rain it wasn't cold, it was warm and for some reason it made Mhaji feel a little vulnerable. She wasn't used to this situation at all; in fact, she had never been in this circumstance before in her life and she wasn't sure whether she was going to freeze up of fright or run away as fast as her little legs would take her.

Looking around for the source of the sound Mhaji noticed a shape crouched behind something, she couldn't see exactly every single feature of the person but the voice had sounded masculine. Mhaji was hesitantly questioning herself on what to do next, her parents had always told her that if someone approached you in the wilderness to run. But she was curious, it didn't seem like whomever this person was wanted to harm her, if they did they probably would have by now.

Flicking her long pale white hair behind her Mhaji directed her attention back to the being crouched on the ground. She took a couple of steps hesitantly to where they were situated, and simply stared at the thing waiting for them to show themself. It obviously wasn't a Thanati resident because most of them, well all of them knew who she was. She went around all of Thanatos with her dancing group showing people what she could do and people would always come up and tell her how good she was and how she should go and show other people all over the world, that of course was what she wanted to do but she didn't have the money to travel at the moment, she had to keep saving and keep doing shows so that one day she could finally leave Thanatos.

"Well excuse me, ya the one who startled me!" Mhaji announced, staring at the being crouched in the shadows.

"Get up you! Who are ya?" Mhaji questioned putting her hands to hip; she was ready to run if this person gave her a reason to, but for some reason she felt like they weren't here to hurt her. So why were they here?

Lion

Well this was unusual, and rather awkward to say the least.  But at least she wasn't afraid.  He had a feeling that if she was and decided to bolt, he might have to give chase to this female being.  There wasn't any way he was to know whether or not she didn't have a passel of crossbow-armed guards waiting around or something.  If she did run...she wouldn't get very far, this he would guarantee.  Hysaeda didn't yet get up from his crouch, but instead kept the bow steady in case she made any sudden fast moves.

He shifted slightly closer, without disheveling his aim too much.  Keeping his weapon trained for as long as he had took time and patience, both of which he had plenty off in his experience.  He was a foreigner to this land, there was a good chance that she was apart of some scouting party, looking to attack any unsuspecting travelers if they had the chance.   She sounded tart and a bit taken aback by his sudden outbust toward her.  Couldn't blame her.  He would do the same thing if he were in her position.

She looked clearly humanoid now that he was closer and was short for what he assumed to be was human, certainly shorter than him.  As long as she didn't run, she was quite safe.  He could faintly make out her hair line, a paleish color much like his own, snowy white hair.  A runt woman?  If she was that, he didn't think he had much to fear from her if she was armed.  He knew how to deal with short people.

When he felt, he was close enough that she wouldn't get far if she tried to dash away, he finally did stand to his full height, the cloak flowing freely.  He tossed his head back a moment to shake the hood off his head, revealing the braids in his growing hair and elongated ears.  He still held the bow up, which probably made him appear all the more menacing, but he didn't care.

"All right.  Here I am," he replied.  "My name's Hysaeda and by business is my own.  Who are you and why are you alone out here?  I swear if you try to run, this arrow will pin you to that tree behind you forever."

Perhaps it was the sudden outburst that scared Mhaji the most, or maybe it was the menacing tone that erupted from his mouth? Whatever it was she had no choice but to stay put, there was no way she was going to risk running for help; this thing looked as if he knew how to use a bow. He called himself Hysaeda; even the name had Mhaji on edge. As he revealed himself Mhaji couldn't help but stare, not in confusion or disgust, but in curiousity. Really he wasn't that different from herself, he had the same ghostly white hair, his skin wasn't a husky bronze nor did she have pointed ears but surprisingly Mhaji didn't care.

Perhaps it was because she was used to seeing a lot of different people? During her travels in Thanatos she had encountered a lot of interesting people from different places in the world, if someone else was in her situation right now perhaps they would scream and run? Mhaji wasn't sure. But she knew for a fact that this Hysaeda guy wasn't kidding, he meant what he was saying and the only way she could get out of this difficult situation was to come up with something tricky, something that would fool him. He didn't look like someone who was easily fooled but it was the only thing that Mhaji could think of, either that or she would have to stall him and wait for someone to find her, but she knew that that wasn't going to happen. Who would be out wandering the wilderness at this time?

Why did he care about her being out here alone anyway, it wasn't like she was doing him any harm. "Right. Business is ya own huh?" Mhaji questioned, eyeing Hysaeda carefully. "What if I said business is ma own?" Mhaji said confidently, whoever he was Hysaeda obviously had never ran into people out in the wilderness before, it was something that had happened to Mhaji, she often ran into hunters or scavengers not that they had harmed her.

"M'a names Mhaji anyways" She said looking at Hysaeda curiously, there was no way that she was going to let an interesting outsider get away even if he had threatened to kill her, even if she had tried to run away would he have killed her? If so, she wasn't quite aware of the danger standing directly in front of her.

She was a real feisty one wasn't she?  That in itself had the potential to make things both better and worse, with varying degrees.  He found something admirable in that.  He could respect a person with tenacity even in the face of a deadly arrow pointed right at their faces.  Took a lot of guts to do something like that.  But that wasn't enough to convince himself to drop his weapon.  He had some interrogating to do and there was no telling what she would do.  He'd meant every word he said, and despite her guts, he was glad that she recognized that too.

"You can say what you like, 'Mhaji.'  If that is your real name.  But I don't think that's a very wise answer.  It would be very easy to kill you, if that's what I wanted.  But no, this arrow aimed right for that little spot between your eyes is merely for precautions.  I don't want to have to kill you, but I will have no regrets for doing so if I had to.  You see, I'm a hunter of sorts and not about to let you go running back to whatever band of people you might be traveling with.  If you swear not to run, and truly hold up to your word, I'll lower the arrow.  If you run after I lower the arrow, I'll be on you faster than a jungle cat."  He tried to sound reasonable, even if something in his tone came off as a little more than harsh.  He hoped she would take the offer as well.  For the first time in a long time, he was tired of needless killing.  Besides, she looked too young, she had a lot of life left to live.

"All I ask is that you tell me your purpose here and where you came from, then if, possible, take me there.  You seem kinda young to be out here by yourself.  So what do you say to my little proposal?" he added, still maintaining the bow's tautness onto her.

[Whoops!  Shorter than I'd like, sorry!]

Mhaji was usually a timid person who didn't engage in conversation a whole lot at all, but when she was threatened or disrespected she wouldn't back down from a fight. The only problem with this was that she hadn't nothing to fight this 'Hysaeda' with, even if she did he looked like the type of person who had fought and battled things his whole life and she was beginning to realise that it was too risky to continue on stalling him, he explained that if she took him from where she come from that no harm would be done to her and that seemed good enough for her. All she wanted to do was return to the dancing academy with her flowers that she had collected and be done this was guy once and for all.

"Well, I'm from Suna and was requested to come here by ma dancing instructor to collect various fauna for a routine," Mhaji answered unwillingly, "I'ma travelling by myself so put that darn thing down!" Mhaji said eyeing the bow clutched in Hysaeda's hand. She stared at him for a while waiting for him to release the bow but he didn't. He obviously wasn't going to hurt her unless she made a move.

"If you want ma ta take ya back ta Suna then I suggest you follow," Mhaji said turning around and walking back the way she had came. The only thing that she was worried about now was running into more hunters, after already having to deal with such a frightening one now she didn't think she could deal with handling anymore.

Lion

He was the only one.  That was how it should have in the first place instead of having strange women walking around by themselves in the wilderness.  She perfectly interrupted any hope he had of a respite alone here in this foreign land.  That seemed to be a pattern in his life of late.  First it was that damn drow,  then that Serenian, now this.  For a good moment, he considered not traveling altogether, maybe that would stop strangers from tumbling in on his peace.

Mulling over that wasted precious seconds he could be following this strange woman.  She assented, thank Umbra, to his little deal and with that in mind, he breathed a sigh of relief.  There didn't have to be any blood this evening.  That would just kill the whole mood of this little trip right quick.  "I'll follow you," he said solemnly and put the weapon down like she directed him.

Hysaeda stalked forward more and looked like a grim giant.  He didn't exactly put his weapon away, but kept it loose and as unthreatening as he possibly could.  There was no use in making his new guide fear him unless he really had to.  He didn't really like having people be afraid of him if there was not exactly a logical reason behind it.  Its not like he was some sort of tyrant that like oppressing people for the hell of it. It was just that he was Umbraeon, and instinct usually ruled out against logic and understanding first and foremost.  And instinct said it was better to be ready to kill first and ask questions later than to get killed and not be asked questions at all.

It was motto he couldn't easily get rid of.  And why would he want to?

Hysaeda shoved that notion to the back of his head and he tried to smile softly toMhaji.  "Lead the way, if you please.  I'll trust your instincts."  He stared at her for a good long second, a curious speculative expression as he really got a chance to size her up and furrowed his brows.  "Are you sure you're a dancer?"

If anyone had been watching from the distance it would probably have been quite an odd sight. A small scrawny woman leading a toned giant through the wilderness, nothing like this had ever happened before in Mhaji's life. Her average day was waking up, dancing academy for most of the day, come home and go to bed. It was a routine that had happened most of her life, there were exceptions of course when she went and held various shows in Thanatos but otherwise her life was really dull.

When Hysaeda agreed to follow her Mhaji gave him a little nod and started walking in the direction of Suna. She knew exactly where it was and there was no way that she was going to get lost, she had been this way a hundred times in her life when she had to go collect other things for her grandmother or for the academy. Of course having a total stranger following you put some un-needed pressure on her but she knew the way and she didn't want to give Hysaeda a reason to harm her, she wanted to lead him to Suna so she could be done with him and never come into contact with him again.

When Hysaeda questioned her about being a dancer, Mhaji kept walking as if she had never heard. The way he said it didn't sound as rough as his last tone which kind of made Mhaji a little calmer, "Mhhmm, I go all over Thanatos showing people my dancing," Mhaji said bluntly looking back at Hysaeda as he walked. He obviously wasn't local here if he didn't know who she was, that or he didn't follow dance at all, either way she was confident that he wasn't going to receive a warm welcome from the people in Suna.

She was about to explain to Hysaeda her dream. Her dream of travelling around world showing people what she could do, but she remembered he was a total stranger. Why on earth would he care? She figured that she was so determined to actually go and do it that she needed to tell someone other than her parents. But as if he would care anyway, he was nothing but a hunter. Or so he had said.

"Im'a not sure whats the point of asking, because I know you won't tell me, but what's ya business here?"

Lion

She didn't have the look of a dancer, he thought.  Or at least, she didn't look like any of the dancers he'd known in his life.  Because of his penchant for seclusion, he didn't meet many traveling dancers that traveled farther than their troupe.  They seemed to clump together and stay in their own little spot.  He'd watched some little troupes, or a caravan of a couple dozen families gather together and carry on in jovial fashion, but never actually got to encounter one up close.  But thinking of watching from the safety of bushes made him feel like a creepy stalker man, which he most certainly was not!

Hysaeda frowned, lost in his own thoughts for a moment, until they were interrupted by her answer.  It was simple at that but he didn't really expect her to go into detail.  "All over Thanatos, huh?  That must be why I've never heard of you.  I don't go to Thanatos often.  It just seemed weird to me...I always thought dancers were a little...taller than you are.  Not that you being short is a bad thing."  He tried to make his words seem as harmless as possible, but with the way he greeted her there wasn't a good chance of her not taking it the wrong way.

At her next question, he took a great long pause, considering her answer.  "I...I guess I just came here to experience something new and different than from where I come from.  I'm just trying to get away for a while.  You probably don't care, but I know some dance too.  I probably know things you've never seen before."
