Aetius

Only the Fae know true freedom, an immortal race which serves no purpose other than their own mysterious desires.  Their responsibilities are only to their own kind, if a Fae becomes a guardian it is not because they are obliged but because it is something that gains their interest.  The race of Men and other mortal beings like them were placed on this plane by their gods to grow and expand their sheltered environments, their castles, cities, villages.  The Fae are content to remain in their forests, living eternal among the beasts; for they say those that live alone must either be an animal or a god.  The answer to which the fae best fit is a difficult question to respond, for most it depends solely on if you have incurred the wrath of the Fair Folk.  To be sure the immortal blood has been tainted and with that taint has come half-breeds with more mortal concerns.

This was not the case...

Sitting atop a high perched branch stood one of these free creatures, watching the dirt road that stood at the edge of her people's forest.  The fae did not hold allegiances to mortal kingdoms and so the Draconi Forest belonged entirely to them, any cutting of its wood or hunting of its game they merely allowed out of curiosity.  Ash'elin was the name of this particular fae, full-blooded and young though the fae hardly kept track of such trivial things as the years of their existence.  For more than a century this particular fae had known nothing outside her forest, but recently her intrigue brought her to the edge of Draconi Forest where she found this dirt path and gained a new interest.  For decades she watched what passed by this path, and had her cheerful little games with the passers.  Sometimes she simply watched them for hours, following the transport in the stealth of the forest.  Other times she enjoyed toying with them seeing how they reacted to a wide variety of illusions.  Nothing was ever done out of malevolence, however something was not quite right with the full-blooded faes of any sort and young ones were no different.

The girl watched the road with large emerald eyes, no plan in mind living practically for the day.
