The winter solstice. A time when the land was sapped of life, when the snow fell, and the leaves shriveled. It was also a time of reunion. For some, it meant spending a week with loved ones, sharing stories and gifts. For others, it meant remembrance of loved ones passed on. For Jy'aad, it meant going to the underworld.

Being in Connlaoth this particular day, he found the into entrance to the underworld in the country, which was far from any sort of town or village. It consisted of a few concentric rings of standing stones around an elaborate circular center piece, carved from obsidian. This was the entrance.

Sitting in the center of this ring of stone, Jy'aad began a strange ritual, summoning violet fire and lighting the standing stones, one by one, until all had been lit. He began chanting, an ancient spell rolling off of his tongue like it was his own language. However, something was wrong. The gates of the underworld didn't open for the prince of Death. Once again, he performed the ritual, and still nothing happened. For a third time, the strange ritual of fire and tongue was performed, but again, the gates wouldn't open.

On his hands and knees, tears streaming from his eyes, Jy'aad let out an agonized cry. He felt abandoned and lost. With a loud voice, he let out a plea, a desperate prayer:

"Agapi̱tí̱ mi̱téra, akoúo̱ ta lógia tou paidioú sas !
Eínai i̱ ó̱ra chrísma tou étous , o chrónos pou échete mou ti̱lefó̱ni̱se xaná kai xaná gia na episkeftheíte sfaíra sas , gia na deíte to próso̱pó sas , o̱ mi̱téra ! Kai páli tha mou ti̱lefo̱ní̱sei, allá oi pýles tou thanátou den tha anoíxei , den tha apoférei sti̱n entolí̱ mou ! Écho̱ kánei kápoia láthos ? Meriká esfalméni̱ práxi̱ pou mou odi̱geítai apó ti̱n agápi̱ sas ?"

((OoC: For ease of reading, here's what he's saying:
"Dearest mother, hear the words of your child!
It is the anointed time of year, the time you have called me again and again to visit your realm, to see your face, oh mother! Again you call me, but the gates of Death will not open, will not yield to my command! Have I done some wrong? Some erroneous deed that has driven me from your love?"))

OOC: I am not writing a bio for my character. Not yet at least. I might write stuff as information about him gets revealed, but seeing as he's only going to be in this thread, I'm going to let you figure things out as it goes along. However, here is an image of him for reference: https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/524001_10201808112387119_1687459811_n.jpg

IC:
Reuben poked the crying Soinhai boy's back with his long, black cane. The frown on his face was made even more apparent by the wrinkles it caused and the irritation in his eyes. "Hurry it up, won't you?" he asked grumpily, completely indifferent to the boy's obvious pain.

Reu stood with the end of his cane rested lightly on the ground, obviously putting no weight on it. The top of the cane had an intricately carved dragon which he was clutching with his left hand. The gold ring on his ring finger had a large blue diamond that shined brilliantly with the the light hitting it. Following upwards, the old man was wearing a short, dark gray cloak that had an almost white shirt peeking out underneath it. He had black pants that matched his top hat. All of these combined, of course, formed a very nice and formal looking outfit.

The old man wearing this outfit, however, was not very nice and formal. He poked the boy again, figuring it might speed him up. There was no reason for the boy to be here except to open the gates to the underworld, but instead he was just crying.

Reu looked around impatiently. Finally noticing that the stones were actually lit, he realized that maybe the boy had tried to open the gates... and failed. Seemed like the Goddess of Death was still planning on keeping him out of the underworld. He scoffed before returning his gaze to the Soinhai boy.

Xerordir's transformation had been completed, unbeknownst to Jyaad, and the death spirit walked the underworld, until it felt life trying to get in. Xerordir looked over towards the direction of the people trying to get in, and let out a ghastly sigh, clearly unimpressed. He was granted a portal out, where he walked out into the snow in front of the immortal spirit and the demigod.

"What do you want? Astraea is not accepting visitors or cold callers right now. If you would like to arrange an appointment, we can sort that out now, or you can come back in..." Xerordir stopped sarcastically, appearing to think about the word he was about to use.

"Forever." He stood, scythe balanced as a staff for his skeletal body to use.

"So if you have no business here, and right now the only accepted business is immortal affairs, and news from the god realms, leave." Xerordir didn't recognise Jyaad as the prince of the realm he was guarding, and the immortal man could bugger off for all Xerordir cared.

Jy'aad's giant scythe, Soulbane, materialized at the spirit's throat. He was already pissed off with the old man, and didn't need some new guardian spirit setting him off.

"As Prince of Death, I command you to let me pass!" He said, his eyes flashing with the violet flames of the river Phrygian. What he didn't know was that the old man that had rudely interuptted him was what was keeping him out of the underworld.

Reuban looked over at the grim reaper, the harbinger of death. Last time he had checked, death angels weren't supposed to have attitudes. Not like it mattered, anyway. Grim reapers couldn't do anything about his situation. They served the Goddess of Death, and she wasn't letting him anywhere near her. So it didn't matter. He didn't even find the need to point out that seeing as he was immortal, his affairs were immortal affairs. The reaper wouldn't be able to let him in to the underworld.

Or so he thought.

But then the petty boy spoke. The Prince of Death? Reu didn't remember the Goddess having a son... but she wouldn't have told him if she did. And he doubted the boy would create a lie like that. Surely the Goddess of Death would want to see her beloved son. So maybe this would be his ticket back into the underworld after all.

Turning towards the grim reaper, Reuban asked, "Hey, Reaper, talk to your employer and tell that ***** that her son is here." When she found out that Reu was there, too... well, he could only hope that she'd let them in anyway.

Xerordir would have thrown them both an unimpressed look, if he had a moving face.

He sighed before continuing to talk.

"Look kid. However much you wanna go see your parents down in the underworld, you don't wanna meet Astraea. She will kill you four times over then feed your body to a demon." Xerordir's voice was patronising as he looked at the kid, and patted him on the head like he was some child.

Then he looked over at the immortal man and his skeletal jaw opened. "You don't get to make demands of the god of death, both of you. I'm pretty sure I would know if there was a prince of death, considering I play doorman to this realm now. Only the dead may enter unquestioned, and as dead as you look, I have been specifically told not to let you in. That I CAN'T let you in, under any circumstance. Sorry buddy. Just doin' mah jooob..." Xerordir turned to reopen the portal to go back to hell.

That did it. Both this new doorman and this old man were going to get it.

Without a thought, he summoned four skeletal warriors from his own personal guard. Not that he needed them, but they would be a good indicator as to who he was. Next, he summoned a ring of wicked, black rock around to old man, then raised a large stake of black rock, impaling the bastard.

As for this doorman, he was about to just shatter him, but something told him that wouldn't be a wise course of action. Instead, he bound him to the ground using shackles of violet flame. The Prince of Death smiled from beneath his black cloak. Retrieving his scythe, he once again pointed it at the skeletal spirit, his undead soldiers keeping an eye out for trouble.

Reuban watched indifferently as the Soinhai boy summoned some skeleton fighters. He had met many necromancers who could do that. He just kept standing still, pretending to be using his cane. Reu didn't even scream or whimper or anything when he was impaled. Instead, he just uncomfortably pulled the stake out of him.

He started walking up to the boy before being interrupted by a skeleton. Irritated, Reuban just poked the skeleton with his cane and said, "Move, bub. I have to go visit my favorite lady in the underworld." He scowled at the skeleton, though it wasn't likely the skeleton noticed. Or even understood his words.

"Here's the deal chaps... I have not been instructed to let either of you two in. I have specifically been told to definitely not let you in Reuban." Xerordir sighed about the flame shackles. As doorman to this underworld he would do his job, and let in the dead when they came. The living are not permitted.

"And you can keep me here as long as you want. I have the rest of eternity to live. You don't demigod. And Reuban, well..." Xerordir lulled his skull around in a sarcastic fashion.

"You'll be here forever. Try another afterlife if you can find them. You know, considering that this is the only one I know with a door. The rest require damned angels to come and pick you up, teleport you to some other realm and repeat that process. So you can abuse the doorman all you like, he's doing his job. And I can create portals for individual souls, so you could still keep me here in these shackles and I can do my job." Xerordir grinned because he wasn't lying. He could create portals that allowed Reuban through but spat water at Jyaad everytime the prince tried to use it.

Jy'aad was losing his temper. He would've done something else, had his mother not shown up.

"Xerordir, why are you barring my son from entering the underworld?" She asked. She was Astraea, Goddess of Death. In her simple black and silver dress, she didn't look like she fit the role, but her tremendous power said otherwise.

Releasing the doorman, she then walked over to Jy'aad, and smiled.

"I suppose I should've told you that he'd be doing doorman duties." She said, putting a hand on her son's shoulder, then, quickly pulled him in for a hug. Jy'aad was a bit surprised by it, his mother never actually having hugged him like that before.

"Now, as for you, Rueban, get lost." She said, releasing herself. She then walked over to the old man, and summoned a ghastly sword at his throat, not that she could hurt him, but it would help get her point across.

Reuban scoffed at Xerodir's comment about him. He was about to reply, telling the poor reaper that they could both stay there forever. And that would be much more unpleasant for the reaper than it would be for him. There was a reason he was barred from the underworld, after all.

But then she came. With a sly smile, Reuban realized just how smart it was to stay with the boy who claimed to be her son. He wasn't lying, and now he got to see his least favorite and yet still most favorite person in the world—underworld included, of course.

He glanced at the sword pointed towards his throat without care, and merely pushed it away with his cane. "Tish tosh, no reason for that to be there. It's not like I'm going to try to hurt you, Astraea. I only have a small favor to ask," he said, a slight tone of sadness hidden deep behind the confident voice he was projecting.

Xerordir bowed to the goddess when she arrived.

"I did not know it was him mistress. I apologise." Xerordir bowed in apology.

"I can escort Reuban elsewhere if you wish mistress." Xerordir drew his scythe and stretched his wings, ready to fly off.
