Physical Description

Like many of her kind, Navarre has gently pointed ears, pale skin and long waist-length white-blond hair. Her eyes are an almond-shaped green-grey, accented by a button nose in a round face. For all appearances, Navarre could be deemed a child still with her youthful appearance.

Her figure is very slim with a trim waist and long limbs. She tends to be dressed in blacks and reds due to her master's tastes. Even the cut of her clothes must meet very specific standards or else she would face punishment. For one, her back must remain covered at all times and must never reveal the "abhorrent protrusions and scars" she has. Navarre's hands must always be covered so as to not contaminate her master or his things with her filth. Finally she must never remove the pendant she was given as a child as it was a gift from her master and it would displease him to see it lost. Aside from those three rules it is also highly suggested that she wear relatively form-fitting outfits that are pleasing and enticing to the eye.

The aforementioned protrusions are actually what remains of Navarre's wings although she does not know it. They are two inches in length of skin-covered bone that are attached at the top of her scapulas near the center of her back. As they are part of a joint, she does have the capability to move them in circles much to her master's revulsion. She tries not to but they do move instinctively when she is startled by something. The bones also make it impossible for her to lay flat on her back due to tissue damage that built up and prevents the bones from being able to lay flat as they were meant to. It causes her a great deal of pain to stay laying on them for long periods of time and therefore something she tries to avoid as often as possible.

Her only form of jewelry is the gold cross-shaped pendant that her master gave her. He told her that the shape was a sign to protect her when in truth the necklace was imbibed with several debilitating spells meant to prevent her from accessing any of the magic of her heritage. Not even her ability to heal quickly has been left to her.

Personality

Navarre appears to be quite the sweet and innocent young woman until one actually takes the time to listen to what she is saying. Since she was small, was raised at her master's knee, soaking in his poison and lies with the eagerness and desire to please of a child. Now grown, she lives by those lies, truly believing that elves, especially her kind deserve to be slaves, that they are animals who need human guidance to survive.

She also believes that she is doing a favor to those she lures into slave traps by helping to protect them. Navarre does not have any other concept of what the world is like other than her skewed and limited perspective. It is what has made her ideal for her master's plans as he has groomed her over the years to become his second, an overseer among his own slaves that willingly rats them out without any sense of disloyalty to them.

One thing that Navarre loves though are birds. Not only is she very good with them, she has the uncanny ability to tame them and sing to them. When permitted to dream, she thinks of nothing else but flying, though she does not understand why as she never learned of her heritage or even what species she is other than the "lowest breed of elves still alive." According to her master, there were once a species known as Wild Elves but they went extinct long ago, leaving Avariels the new bottom link of the chain.

Despite her best efforts, Navarre is not always the most obedient slave. Her master has a fickle nature and has been known to turn on her in the blink of an eye whenever it suits his fancy. Her most effective punishment to endure is then to be locked into a small, dark box that forces her to curl into a cramped ball and remain there with the lid closed and locked for long periods of time. Like many Avariel, Navarre is claustrophobic and has trouble staying long inside a room let alone the box. Release from her confines traditionally leaves her very flighty as well as clingy, much like a frightened bird.

Magic/Abilities

~Avian Speech: Navarre does not realize she has this capability because of her life extreme isolation and suppression as well as the compulsion of her pendant
~Quick Self-Healing: Another capability that she sadly does not realize she has thanks to the pendant
~Sword-fighting: Although not very strong, she is quick on her feet and quite graceful. Fighting is like a game to her, not unlike dancing for her master
~Flight: This capability while something she was born with has been forever stripped from her

Relationships

~Family: Navarre has the slightest of memories of who she thinks her blood parents might have been but she has repressed it after years of being forced to not ask questions about herself or them.
~Master: Navarre views him as a father and a good man when he is nothing but a manipulative, slimy piece of work that treats her like a privileged pet on a very tight leash. He goes by the name of Kreios.

History

Born in the Terrin Mountains of the Adelan border, Navarre does not remember much of her life before her master. She carries the barest of memories of her mother and father who were murdered before she could walk, let alone fly.

Her soon-to-be-master Kreios had with a group of men had invaded the small mountain village, stealing those Avariels that would turn a profit and murdering the rest. Navarre herself was nearly murdered for her constant squalling had it not been for the interest of Kreios' daughter, Katherine, who had demanded that her father let her keep the little babe as her newest toy. He relented and Navarre was saved, torn from her mother's desperately clutching arms moments before she was beheaded.

One of the conditions though of keeping the Avariel slave was the immediate removal of her fledgling wings. Katherine plucked every single one of the soft down feathers from Navarre's wings before her father laboriously worked to sever them from the tiny babe's back. Navarre fainted after one of the first cuts and remained so through nearly the entire process. She did occasionally wake to excruciating pain only to fall unconscious once more.

Unfortunately due to the nature of wings' attachment to her shoulders, all but two protruding bones had been removed. These were carelessly treated and later resulted in serious infection and the eventual mass of scar tissue that knotted at the base of them.

Katherine easily grew bored of her ailing and disfigured "doll," often leaving Navarre uncared for and unattended for long periods of time, even days. Her end though would come soon enough as she caught an illness that filled her lungs with fluid until she passed, unable to breathe.

Distraught at the death of his daughter, Krieos despaired, wondering at what he would do until he caught sight of a then walking Navarre. She was just over a year old and suddenly the slaver had the most diabolical idea ever. A life for a life. He blamed the Avariels for the death of his daughter, claiming they made her sick. For that he would make a child of their own a traitor to them all.

Navarre was raised at Kreios' knee and while in some ways treated as a daughter she was in all ways slave. From that time on she was made into a slave lure, a trap to anyone with a kind enough heart willing to help a poor lost child in need. Her beauty and innocence brought many to their death or loss of freedom.

It is not to say though that she lived a truly happy and privileged life. Navarre was often punished, sometimes without reason, tortured physiologically, and constantly reminded how she was completely inferior to everything around her. She was the lowest of the low and should be eternally grateful to the man who had sullied himself with ensuring her survival.

Kreios molded her into the perfect little pet who had no qualms about turning in those who she led to their ends or who devised to attempt escape. One moment she would be making promises to help and the next she would be whispering the names in the ear of her merciful "father." He has almost complete trust in her, believing that she is nearly ready to take over for him in the slave business so that he may create other endeavors. However, he has grown equally paranoid over the years and often will blame her for things she did not do or force her back into her punishment box without explanation.
