BASIC INFORMATION

Weight: 139 lbs
Race: Undetermined Mutt

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
On the shorter size of the height scale, Zander does not at all cut an imposing figure. With a slender frame you wouldn't think of a warrior when taking him in. To the eye his muscles are soft and undefined, certainly not giving the impression of one who has been trained for combat. Furthering the deceptive appearance is the fact that his facial features are androgynous at best, and delicately near-feminine at worse.

There is a distinct ageless quality about him, though. His appearance would belie a youth, but his eyes are too deep and knowing, and the way he moves is that of someone confident in his abilities and his person, not the arrogance or tentativeness of someone that hasn't yet learned their place in the world.

Zander is white. I'm not even talking pale, I'm talking glow-in-the-dark white. From head to toe. His skin is near translucent and unnaturally pale. The hair that rests upon his head is powdery and fine, and whiter than the purest clouds in the sky as it frames that delicate face in a light, feathery halo. The only part of him that isn't ungodly white is his bright pink eyes, marking him for the albino he is. Those eyes are as warm as the shade they are colored, often sparkling with a hint of amusement.

Ironically enough or perhaps he does it on purpose, Zander's favorite color to wear is white, and his clothes are always impeccably clean, although how he manages that living in an underground city is anyone's guess. Loose woolen whites cover him from head to his soft leather boots that have been bleached as white as the rest of his ensemble.

On those rare occasions that he ventures from the relative safety of the Clockwork City he will keep a hood pulled up, and a scarf around his neck and lower face so that little more of himself than his pink eyes are showing, and even those are shaded to protect his delicate eyes.

PERSONALITY
Zander is what he needs to be. Serious when the situation calls for it, calm and efficient when needed and comforting to those distressed. In general he tries to be pleasant and approachable to his fellow Rangers and his students, keeping a friendly air, warm smile, and laughing eyes.  Joking and relaxing with his comrades is common, but the relationships he holds are superficial.

While he maintains a pleasant demeanor, Zander is reserved and quiet, very good at learning about others, but not very good at sharing his inner thoughts. There is a deep cunning hidden in those unusual eyes, and a calculating intensity that would be frightening if ever expressed against you. It is one of the things that help him keep unruly students in line. One of his unnerving stares can quickly place a much larger fledgling back in line without even the need for physical altercation.

Although when it does come down to it, Zander is as well-trained as any Shadow Ranger, and his appearance is deceptive. For such a small, soft-looking man, the seasoned Ranger has a lot of fight in an unassuming package. It is quite common for his opponents to underestimate him. He possesses a cool confidence without arrogance, because he knows what he can do and knows what he cannot do. There is no need to try to impress anyone or prove anything.

BACKSTORY
Zander doesn't have much to go on in his earliest years. He knows he was either orphaned or abandoned, and considering his condition, it wouldn't surprise him if his parents had simply dumped him on the streets of some random city without looking back. His parentage is also unknown and mysterious. Albinos are quite rare, and though his appearance speaks of humans, his strength is not proportionate to his size or to a human. The most he can figure is he was an unwanted mutt. His early survival was dependent upon orphanage caretakers that held little actual affection for their charges.

Growing up as an orphan, he lived a rough and tumble sort of life, and though he was more powerful than children larger than him, he held a distinct disadvantage. As a boy he spent his time nocturnal, avoiding daylight at all costs. His eyes couldn't tolerate the bright light of the sun and his skin didn't fare any better. Just as he was entering his teenage years, Zander caught the break of a lifetime when he ran into a Shadow Ranger. Showing spunk and promise, despite his unimpressive size, he was taken to the Clockwork City, a place that he instantly fell in love with.

Taking to being a fledgling with ambition, he easily made acquaintances, but also held himself at a distance. Even among the Vigilant Shadows he separates himself. At first there were problems with other new fledglings trying to pick on him and single him out, but with the proper encouragement and no sun to deter him, Zander quickly showed that he wasn't to be trifled with. Even though he still looked the weakest after years of training, he zipped through his Rites with ferocious abandon.

He's been with the Vigilant Shadows for many years now, and though he can't remember exactly how old he was when they offered to allow him to train fledglings, it is a career among the Rangers that suits him well. Remaining within the Clockwork City is necessary, as he still cannot stand the daytime well, and preparing each new group of fledglings for their Rites is a task that gives him a sense of purpose and usefulness. He makes a point to ensure that his own students never underestimate their adversaries based on appearance alone. More than one fledgling has gotten a few welts on their hides for assuming the small instructor would be easy to overpower.
