The mountains were cold that night, chilly from the approaching autumn, enough that Quinn had to break out their long rabbit-fur coat. Despite the cold, though, it was a beautiful night, clear save for a few misty clouds that did nothing to hide the full moon and glittering stars. And way up here, at the mountain's peak, one could see for miles in any direction--though currently the view was rather black.

Bundled up, Quinn had just finished setting up camp for the night and lay stretched out beside their fire, cushioned atop a simple bedroll. Arms folded beneath their head, they stared up at the night sky, watching for shooting stars, something that always helped them relax and drift to sleep. Many people might find the sort of work they did lonely, since it involved a lot of travel, and a lot of solitude, but Quinn enjoyed it; it was a nice, peaceful break from the usual violence of their work.

The calm before the storm.

And Quinn needed that, because they were on the path of something nasty, something that had been coming down from the mountains weekly to feed on unlucky villagers.

With a yawn, Quinn let their eyes drift shut and was just beginning to nod off when a low rustle in the bushes made them jerk upright, at once tense and on guard. They reached for the chain of their scythe and squinted into the dark, frowning. It could just be an animal. More than likely, it was a rabbit or some other harmless thing. But here, at the mountain's peak, Quinn was closer to the demon they hunted, and had seen more and more evidence of its existence--like fresh human bones, bits of meat still attached.

Quinn wrapped their chain around their wrist and took hold of the scythe, drawing up into a crouch. "Someone there?"

Another rustle, this one behind them, and then another, off to the side. Quinn held their breath and tensed, because now they could feel it, feel the strange, vile energy wafting into the area, a horrible aura that felt like being covered in slime--and Quinn knew that if not for the protective wards they wore, they would have gotten sick. And then, the creatures revealed themselves, and Quinn saw their eyes glinting through the darkness around them, eyes like stars, bright and shining like no animal's eyes were.

Quinn adjusted their grip on the scythe and rose to their feet, expression grim. These weren't the beasts they were hunting, but some minor demons.

Minor, but no less dangerous, especially since they attacked as a pack.

"Guess it's too much to ask for a full night's sleep, huh?" Quinn muttered as they twirled their chain. "Well, come on then, fuckers. Let's get this over with so I can enjoy my bed!"

He had been walking for a full day, Damion, and had just began to sit down to rest for a while. He caught wind that some demons were infested in the mountain he now sat on. Looking up to the night sky, the young warrior felt a moment of peace take over him. A soothing breath of wind grazed his face. On it was the foulness of a certain stench however. Sighing in disbelief, the marked man replaced his cloths with his armor.

After a few minutes of equipping his gear, the holy warrior began walking in the direction of the stench. Finding small foot prints to assist him in his search. Anyone else would have mistaken them for animal track, but he has learned just enough to know better what they are.

And that is when he saw the mangled remains of a person. Laying on the ground mostly eaten, nothing but a few bones and little meat. It made Damion sick, but also made him turn his walk into a run.

In the short distance, he heard someone yell something. The shallow trail of demon feet led in similar direction. Running after the demons he had yet to see, Damion found one that fell behind his foul kin. Drawing his blade from it's scabbard, the blessed and cursed man grunted before crashing his sword down on top of it.

"Vermin." He muttered before leaving the mortally injured demon to closing in on the others in the pack. Along with Quinn in turn.

A large snow wolf, James, stalked through the mountains. This mountain was said to be infested with demons, but he would simply be able to walk through since he was a demon himself. The wolf had a large bow and a belt with twin daggers along the left and right side. It continued its slow walk until it saw something. It was a man clashing blades with another. The wolf ran up to get a closer look at what was happening and quickly ran to the top of a hill. It sat and looked down at the two men clashing swords. The wolf didn't seem to be getting involved, but more less entertaining itself to see what would come.

Acting fast, Quinn pressed a gem on one of the rings they wore, and pricked their thumb on the blade that popped out. Blood beaded out of the wound and dripped onto the scythe's handle--

And the demons attacked.

They descended on Quinn as a pack, but Quinn was ready for them. Weighted chain whirling, Quinn  released it as it came to life, bound to them by blood, and it swept out and bludgeoned one of the demons in the skull before caving in the chest of another. The chain swung back to Quinn and they caught it before spinning around and slashing another demon with the scythe, and thrusting the chain up to wrap it around another demon's scaly neck. With a quick twist, the demon's neck snapped--but Quinn was just a second two slow, for one of the three remaining demons managed to lunge at the back of their legs and send them toppling to the rocky ground.

"Fuck!" Quinn yelled as the demon bit them, hard, on the back of their shin, and if it weren't for the leather armor they wore, the creature would have surely taken a chunk out of them. Quinn kicked it with their other leg, smashing the demon in the face, and to their feet--

Just in time to see a white-haired man approaching, as well as more of those obnoxious demons.

Good! Maybe he could be of some use!

"Help me finish them off!" Quinn called as they whirled their scythe by the chain, preparing to unleash it again.

James, currently in his wolf form, stared down at Quinn from the point he was at. James knew that  by the time help had arrived Quinn would of been a goner. The wolf quickly descended from the hill he was perched at. He ran at a very quick rate, and seemed to be taking a human like shape. James had his hood down, showing only a small piece of his face. He quickly ran past a demon and left a massive claw mark right along the demon's neck. It soon fell dead at his feet. He quickly turned and pulled his bow as he shot other demons, pinning them to the ground with minor arrow wounds. A small mark appeared on his hand as he murmured, "Burn in the fires from where you came...." He snapped his fingers and a small vortex appeared in front of him. A large symbol appeared around his upper arm as a large mass of flames fired out of it and burned the pinned demons alive. He stumbled for a moment, but quickly caught himself as the mark disappeared from his arm. He quickly ran to Quinn and quickly shot the demons around them. He didn't bother to check on Quinn when as quickly as he had appeared he had changed back into his wolf form and vanished in almost a instant, already running to a nearby hill.
