The crisp air of a quickly approaching fall bit at her bare arms and legs. Elysia walked along the plains, holding the reins to a stout, chestnut horse and cursing herself for not accepting the jacket her brother had offered. It was convenient that she had the power to stop the wind, otherwise she'd have been twice as cold.

It was around midday, so the temperature would only be dropping as night fell. Elysia held her long skirt in her fist, watching where she stepped.

Northwatch was a lot like her home in Moonspear in that it had many stretches of grasslands. It wouldn't be too much longer until she was back home, back to the streets and people she knew and loved.

Still, adventure was a lot of fun. Next time, she'd just be sure to wear warmer clothes! Elysia always was put in a good mood when music was played, so she looked at the saddlebags on the horse. Rummaging through, the girl pulled out a pair of soft hammers and undid the straps that held her dulcimer to the horse.

There was a town nearby, so Elysia walked with her horse to the town. Several people were bustling around, so Elysia sat down against a stray tree in the center of the cluster of people with her dulcimer on her lap. The horse grazed nearby, as the girl made both hammers dance along the strings in a beautiful melody. She hummed along with the music, smiling at the magic she was able to create with only a piece of wood and a few strings.

The first step in growing a legend was to unveil it firsthand to the people. Introducing Rex Havelock, not storied in any sense - though no less deserving! It was with a flourish that he drained his tankard, feeling refreshed and ready to plan his debut. Being outstanding was its own reward, but in his generosity he was willing to share his brilliance with the whole world. So kind. Throwing the barmaid a wink, and less significantly some coin, he departed with a swish of his excellent coat. He had no direction in mind, for he knew that wherever his feet took him was the right way.

There was a resounding screech and clamour and Rex was drawn towards it, shuddering at the sinking feeling it was someone's idea of music. The poor, innocent peasants ate it right up. Because he was great, he was willing to educate them all, and maybe whoever was behind that crude noise would even learn a thing or two! Winners all round! He wove his way through the townsfolk and squinted down at the girl, the source of this cacophony, plucking away with her inelegant contraption. This was no challenge of course, he was good enough that he could work with anything, after all.

With a grimace he got closer, sat nearby and unslung a true beauty of an instrument, his beloved lute Letrice. In but a moment his frown quickly turned into a cheeky grin. He timed to coincide with the beat, and finally regaled the onlookers with a real hit that was guaranteed to blow them away.

Despite the many people in the crowd that had gathered, Elysia was really only playing for herself. She could sit alone in the forest to play and be just as enthused! Still, the pleasure she got from knowing people enjoyed listening to her music was indescribable. As she struck the strings gently to hear the vibrations create a song, it was like being transported into a new world.

This feeling was only amplified when a handsome man sporting a regal coat approached, sitting near her with his equally attractive lute. She loved the sound of a lute, but something about the dulcimer just brought a smile to her face.

Elysia looked at him with a smile, responding to the grin he had developed. When he joined in with the song, she felt her heart start to race. It had been ages since someone had actually joined her song!

With the combined sounds of the instruments and the musicians' ability to read each other, there was an audible chemistry that was undeniable, at least from Elysia's view. She started to alter her style only a little to match his own and make the sounds blend, even giving him moments of solo playing to let his skill take the attention of the awestruck onlookers.

"You're very good," she said finally, a slight pink hue growing on her cheeks.

Some would argue that music and art was not an endless contest, but rather a persistent collaborative effort to coalesce the best of humanity's creativity. Rex on the other hand was sure everyone who heard him wished they could be as good, he felt it made his flair that much sweeter. Although when he played, it was a different story. His style expressed a hint of something deeper than his shallow demeanour would seem to permit.

His body rose up with the climb of the sound and descended slightly as it dipped. He relished the limelight. Where given an inch he would take a mile, but continued to follow the same underlying structure and rhythm, never quite leaving the girl behind.

He casually accepted her praise as if expecting no different, catching her eye and giving a small nod. "I know." Her apparent excitement was par for the course as far as he was concerned, but flattering nonetheless. Meanwhile he ramped up the tempo, pushing the improvised piece's intensity to build a crescendo and lead its finale.
