Physical Description:
Tall with grey hair falling just past his shoulders, Douglas Scarpetti is almost stereotypically Verdan. His face is long and pointed, as are his ears. His pine-green eyes are soft and welcoming, and his smile is genuinely warm. He typically wears a blue button-down jacket and cloak- as a jeweler he's expected to look as nice as what he works on.

Doug's spirit stone is amethyst! He wears it in a handmade yellow gold bezel pendant. He grumbles a lot about how much he hates working with the stone, claiming that it's garbage  ("It chips so easily! Fuck purple stones, man!")

Personality:
Kindhearted and brave, Douglas genuinely cares about Altas Verde and it's people. He firmly believes that the Serenian government has systematically screwed over his province and it's culture, and that the only way for Verdans to be truly happy is if they split from the country entirely. Like many Verdans he views the culture of his province as something entirely different from Serendipity's culture, and he himself has never considered himself a "Serenian".

A humble man, Douglas leads the Altas Verde Independence Movement not because he wants to, but because he feels nobody else would. He still does work as a jeweler in order to help fund his movement, and plans on returning to his job full time as opposed to working in politics should he achieve his goal. Because of this and his positive demeanor, Douglas is often seen as an almost... messianic figure by his supporters. Like yeah, he's a nice guy, but lets not get carried away!

Douglas has a love-hate relationship with jewelry. On one hand it's his livelihood and he needs it to make money- but on the other hand, most of the jewelry he sees on a regular basis is cheap garbage. He's easily distracted by well made pieces, and it's not uncommon for him to ask for a closer look at the jewelry people are wearing out of the blue.

Relationships:
Douglas' parents are alive, and couldn't be prouder of their son for standing up to Serendipity's government.

Magic/Abilities:
Douglas has some minor enchanting abilities- namely the ability to enchant metal so it doesn't get scratched or tarnished.

Douglas is a skilled jeweler, and knows the ins and outs of the trade like the back of his hand.

History:
Born to a lower-class family in Emerald Hills County, Douglas had a tough childhood. Every day was a battle to put food on the table, and luxuries were sparse if not non-existent. His family was incredibly Verdan, and his cultural identity was instilled in him from a very early age.

Douglas learned his father's trade- repairing cyathil jewelry- at an early age, with the hope that someday he'd be able to make a better life for himself in the city of Seren. For a while he did, but the constantly increasing taxes on the rare metal imposed by the Serenian goverment made his job harder and harder. Eventually his trade became impossible, as the cost of cyathil stock and solder was more than his repair was worth. Douglas was forced to make the switch to repairing gold and silver- a much less lucrative business.

Bitterness and resentment slowly grew in the man, until finally Douglas snapped. The cyathil mine had been shut down entirely- taxes had gone up so high that producing and exporting the metal simply wasn't worth it anymore. As cyathil was Altas Verde's only valuable export, the province's economy began to tank. Furious at the suffering the lower class was beginning to experience, Douglas climbed the tallest building in Seren and cried out for the province to free itself from Serendipity's grasp...

To Douglas' shock, hundreds of voices called back in response. He truly wasn't the only one? Resigning himself, he began the Altas Verde Independence Movement with himself as leader, and got members almost immediately. Now one of the most influential people in Verdan politics, Douglas lobbies for his land's secession.
