It was a cool autumn day. Bright, blue skies, birds singing and nature everywhere. Children running around, climbing trees and enjoying the last days before winter sets in. The squirrels and birds preparing for the cool winter and a long hibernation. People were outside at every corner, cutting their lawn, harvesting their gardens, fishing, playing with their babies, cuddling on a park bench. It was the perfect day to enjoy the sunlight.
That is unless you were Aloysius Sukorup. Days like this made boys like him want to drown themselves in their own blood. Then again, boys like him generally didn't live in La'marri, one of the brightest places he could think of. He sulked through the forest, looking for a way to pass the time until nightfall, the time when his kind thrived, when they became more alive. It was the only time he could be himself, fully let loose. He loved the feeling of running through the town, never having to worry about people staring or fleeing from him. Though the thought of what he must be like as a monster scared him a bit, it didn't matter in the least when the change occurred, when the sun set, and when his inner vampire reared it's ugly head.
Walking through the forest would normally be a death sentence for a regular human. They normally would be mauled by a bear or eaten alive by a basilisk. If the wild life didn't get you, then you would surely get lost by the winding trails that seemed to shift as you continue through them. And if you survived the trails and the wildlife, Aloysius surely would. There was no way out if you wandered deep enough in, unless you could take on a young vampire with the strength to take down a herd of horses. Only one person has ever escaped with their life when they had come in contact with him, and he never spoke or thought of that day again.
He bent down and picked up a rock. He looked at it for a moment, determining whether he should crush it in his hand or chuck it at some poor, unsuspecting animal. He was about to throw it at a squirrel, burying food for the winter, when he heard a snap somewhere off in the distance. To a normal vampire, this would just be background noise, possibly miles away. But Aloysius was not normal, not in the least. With his schizophrenia and paranoia, everything seemed out to get him. He couldn't help it. As a young boy, he was stalked and sexual harassed by a man who he thought he could trust. He liked not to think about it, for when he did, he found himself curled up in a tight ball, convulsing in fear and crying for several hours, a state he liked not to speak of. He turned he head towards the direction where the snap came from. His eyes darted back and forth before he ran forward, away from whatever made the noise.
While running, he tripped over an above ground root. He hit the ground and rolled a few feet before smashing into a tree housing many birds and a few giant spiders. When he hit the tree, he hit it hard, nearly knocking the wind out of him. During the day he was human, therefor breakable. He heard a crunch as one of his ribs broke in two and a searing pain shot all through him. He let out a sharp yelp before quickly covering his mouth to stop the noise. He wrapped his arm around the rib, trying not to touch it too much in fear that it would cause him more pain. He sat there for a few minutes, nursing his wound as best he could. While sitting there, he couldn't help feeling like he was being watched
