Spot marched silently forward, carrying the pup for as long as it stayed still. When it started squirming, she plopped the little wolf down on the ground. She gave him a quick, "Come along." then continued. The wolf pup followed quickly at Spot's heels, only glancing every so often over his shoulder to look distrustfully at Jarrett. Spot continued much the same way after they got to the road. Now that they didn't have a cart to shove Mr. Allendale in - they'd lost that while fleeing the inn the night before - the corpse had to ride their horse, meaning Jarrett, Spot, and the pup had to keep walking. So that's what she did. When the pup got tired, she carried him again until he squirmed, then put him down again to let him follow.

Spot stayed quiet while they walked, though her posture relaxed a little and wasn't quite so icy towards Jarrett. Instead of being angry now, she was thinking. Wondering what she was doing with this assassin. Or, more accurately, what he was doing with her? And how long would it take for the Soot Wolves to catch up with them again? They'd probably be after both of them. The ones looking for Spot, and Jarrett's "Honor Guard." Plus she was starting to doubt herself. Jarrett might have been confused about Spot's mood earlier, but no less so than she was. Spot knew herself, she knew her heart usually made decisions for her long before her brain caught up. Not romantic decisions! Not like that, but Spot cared too quickly and too deeply for people. She glanced over at Jarrett while thinking this through. There wouldn't be anything to gain, she was sure, if she ended up caring for someone like Jarrett who... Well, who had all the emotional depth of a mannequin..

He'd been awfully good to her so far, there was no denying that. But he said himself he didn't know why. And when he got bored of her? When he realized that he had no clue why he was carting her around? Would he just leave her, wherever it was, or sell her, or change his mind about assassinating her?

This was churning in Spot's mind when they crossed a road. The sign was old and poorly kept, but Spot still recognized what it said. "Cerenis," accompanied by an arrow to the left. Spot crossed the road and walked on for another twenty paces. She remembered when Jarrett killed the dog, and what she decided then.

It was midday now and there was no way she would do it once the sun was down, once night fell.

Spot stopped suddenly, and turned to face Jarrett. She looked him over for half a moment, pulling a face. Then quickly and rather inelegantly said, "I think Timothy," presumably the wolf pup, "and I are going to go that way," she pointed to the road they'd just crossed. "You've been swell, but they'll be looking for us together, and what would we do after Prophet's Point, anyway? I mean," she brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, giving Jarrett a funny look, "I don't really like unfinished business, but I think it's for the best."

While Spot was unusually quiet, Jarrett was...
well, Jarrett. He wasn't one to drum up conversations because things were dull, after all, he rather liked the fact all he had to listen to was the singing of birds, the chirping of insects, the rustling of trees, and their foot falls sometimes intermingled with a sigh or breath from Spot, and little noises from the youthful wolf.

After a time, there was a sign, and by then, Jarrett found himself growing tired, but frowned a little at the idea of Cerenis. He knew this would be the fastest way to get Mr. Allendale to Prophet's Point (considering he'd have to trek across all of Adela, and then some of the desert to get there...)
But it was what it was, and he at least had money to spare for the boat ride.

So when Spot made her suggestion, he gave a nod. Who was he to tell her to do otherwise, though as he adjusted the corpse on the horse's back, he turned with a small sack and gave it to Spot.

"In case you need a ferry, or a boat to take you someplace else." And that was that, he said no more, lingered no more, and turned from her to go back to fussing over Mr. Allendale.

Spot stared at the sack of money Jarrett put in her hand, not sure what to think of it. It was, she supposed, nice... sort of. But she was a thief! She could take care of herself! She didn't need hand outs from some crazy assassin.

Spot glanced up at Jarrett, glaring a little. Again she felt riled, and unsure why. So she figured she'd give in; she didn't know what else to do. Dropping the sack to the ground, Spot grabbed Jarrett around the neck and drew him to her, kissing him long and hard and, she knew, futilely.

Afterwards she let go and took a step away from Jarrett, giving him a funny look. She shook her head. This one, she would have to accept, she just couldn't figure out.

Then Spot turned, hoisted up the pup. "C'mon, Timothy, let's go."

It wasn't until Spot turned away did the emotions begin to subside, a strange burning sensation from within, almost like fire, that lit his cheeks, belly- and perhaps his heart. But it made him shift uncomfortably, especially in the pants, as he shifted that subtly and simply watched as the woman and wolf pup go.

Spot left the sack of money where it landed on the ground. And Jarrett where he stood. She felt suddenly light. Buoyed by her decision to take the next step on her own. She could have spent the next weeks being funny and adorable in hopes of getting a smile or who knew what out of the assassin, and very likely in vain. Or instead, she could step out on her own for the first time... ever? Worry less about making everyone else happy, or protecting them, or whatever else she'd gotten herself all tangled up in - her family, her siblings, the Wolves, Zahi, Kui, and maybe even a little bit Jarrett - and finally just worry about herself.

Well, and Timothy. Of course.

All the same, it wasn't easy to walk away. But Spot didn't turn around or look back. She just called brightly over her shoulder,

"Have a good trip, Mr. Allendale!"
