Plotting Center / Seeking threads for my first character!
February 03, 2024, 10:17:24 PM
Silas Grimshaw is my first character and I'm looking for threads for him!

A TLDR version of his profile would be: he's a shy and anxious stable hand with some shadow-based powers he inherited from his ancestors. His parents died in a fire and it may or may not have been an accident. He's lived in Ravensway all his life and is kind of sickly and frail but I'd be totally good to push him out of his comfort zone with an adventure. Something that takes place closer to his home would work well, too.

If anyone is interested in meeting Silas, feel free to poke me in a PM, Discord or this thread!

PLAYER WANTS

What are your favorite kinds of plots and relationships to play?

Platonic relationships are my favorite! As far as plots, I'm good with anything that doesn't fall under my limits. I do have a soft spot for slice of life, adventure and comedic threads!

What are your least favorite kinds of plots and relationships to play?

Romantic stuff can be difficult for me at times. Political plots don't really vibe with me because I'm bad at them.

What are your favorite character types to play?

Goofy, sweet, anxious and shy guys tend to show up on my rosters!

Are you a planner or a pantser? Do you prefer to pre-plan and stick to a script when posting, or do you prefer to surprise and be surprised?

I'm a bit of both!

How do you feel about group threads?

Honestly a bit stressful if it's a thread with more than three players. I do have difficulty keeping up sometimes, and can struggle catching every detail.

How often can you reply to any given thread? How long should a partner wait before nudging you for a post?

I've been told I reply pretty consistently, but I know that I tend to lack the energy for rapidfiring posts. Poke me after a month has passed!

What is the longest you're willing to wait for a reply to a thread?

I'm okay to wait for the most part, but if a thread goes untouched for a month or longer I usually do start to wonder if I should contact my partner about it!

How do you feel about instant messenger RP?

Not my thing, personally!

Ho do you feel about post volleying/rapidfire RP?

As mentioned above, I can't really do this.

What's your preferred posting style? Long posts? Short posts? Anything and everything?

Small to medium sized posts for sure! Anything super, super lengthy (I'm talking close to 1k words or more!) can be very difficult for me to respond to.

Any RP styles/habits that you love?

Emphasis on dialogue and actions. I especially enjoy quirky, fun dialogue!

Any RP styles/habits that you avoid?

Posts that are extremely long as mentioned before, especially if it's not just an occasional thing. Players going months without replying and neglecting to contact me about the reason for it.

PLAYER LIMITS

What are you limits regarding powerplay/godmoding?

I'm okay with it so long as it works within the plot and moves it along. For example, having my character follow yours in your post after mine has agreed to doing that is fine. Attacking is fine too! Just don't kill my characters, please!

What are your limits in regards to romantic situations?

The best route for me and romance is to see if our characters have romantic chemistry organically, and then OOCly discuss if it seems like there's potential afterwards. Romance can be iffy for me as somebody who is asexual and sex-repulsed, so don't be disheartened if I say no. I'm not a fan of cheating or love triangle plots but IC rejection is fine! Age gaps are also alright with me as long as the characters involved are adults.

What are your limits with regards to graphic content such as sex, violence, drug use, sexual assault, etc? What is your comfort level?

Absolutely no sexual content beyond heavy kissing. I can fade to black, but it has to be before clothes come off. Violence is fine unless it involves injury to internal organs or something like disembowelment. And please no bodily functions as in bowel movements or urinating. Everything else should be fine!

What are your limits in regards to pregnancy within plots?

This one's a hard no in all regards, alas.

What about healing?

Totally good with this, so long as it's plotted out first!

What about characters being transformed against their will?

This needs to be plotted out first as well!

Anything else?

Please contact me on the forums or in Discord if you have any questions or want to plot!

February 03, 2024, 08:12:25 PM
Hi everyone, please call me Nyami!

I'm kind of Discord shy so I'll be communicating pretty much exclusively on the forums.

Hope to have fun here! I'm still feeling my way around the lore and such but hope to do some threads with you guys sometime soon!

Serendipity / Silas Grimshaw, a shadowy stable hand
February 03, 2024, 07:42:39 PM
SILAS GRIMSHAW

 art credit: [x]

Age: 40
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Ethnicity: Serenian
Height: 5'9"
Occupation: Stable Hand
Residence: Ravensway, Serendipity

Physical Description: Silas has a slender, verging on emaciated build and a pale, sickly pallor. He has an angular face, thin lips and haunting blue eyes. A tangle of thinning unkempt raven hair cascades just past his shoulders. His brows are bald and dark circles are heavily set under his eyes, and he always wears black, sometimes with gold or white accents in the details of his clothing.

Personality: Silas is cautious and nervous around strangers and is easily startled by sudden movements or noises. He's self-conscious, doesn't like to eat in front of others and is sensitive when it comes to remarks about his appearance. Generally quiet, shy and soft-spoken it takes him a lot of time to warm up to new people. When he does make friends, he tends to become very needy towards them due to fear of abandonment. The horses he tends to have his devotion and he cares for them deeply. One might consider him a horse whisperer of sorts.

Abilities: Silas has ability to travel through shadows. While in the midst of traveling, he temporarily becomes a cloud of wispy black mist. He can also blend in completely with the shadows while staying very still. This stops working when he moves or makes a noise. Every time Silas uses a shadow power, he uses up quite a lot of energy. If he overuses his abilities, he may become sick or cough up congealed or liquid shadows.

History:

TW: animal abuse mention

Silas as born to a farmer and his wife in Ravensway, Serendipity. Both of his parents were killed in a fire of unknown origins when he was about two years old. A middle-aged couple rescued Silas from danger and took him into their care. They were patient and loving towards him, although the same could sadly not be said for most others.

Silas was picked on by other children for his gloomy appearance. He was nicknamed 'The Grim' and a group of particularly mean kids started a rumor that he was evil and had started the barn fire which had cost him his mother and father. They also took advantage of his affinity for animals and forced him to do cruel things to them while threatening to hurt him if he refused. It was around this time that his shadow powers surfaced, which did help him escape the bullies from time to time but at the expense of his health.

His adoptive parents struggled to perceive the ongoing attacks on their son because of their aging and failing health. Silas still survived his childhood but not without undergoing some mental and physical scarring. He still did prove capable as an adult and picked up a job as a caretaker for horses. Working for a stable hand felt like a way to redeem himself after subjecting so many animals to pain as a child.

When his adoptive parents eventually died of natural causes, Silas inherited their property. He still lives in their little house and works with horses to this day. However, he doesn't go a single night without wondering whether his birth parents' deaths were accidental or not, and exactly how he'd developed shadow magic.
