Duchy: WULFBAUER
Ruling House: Therrien (Formerly Carwick)
Current Duke: Erwin Therrien
Known Crops: Wulfbauer's agricultural outputs are fairly diverse, in part because the Carwick house traditionally took an active role in the stewardship of the duchy's land and was reluctant to over-rely on any one crop or industry. Amongst its major outputs are timber (Wulfbauer being more wooded than most duchies, and forests being carefully managed to produce timber without over-logging), grain, rapeseed oil, and cheese. Wulfbauer's most famous crop, however, is hops. The duchy is said to produce the best hops in Connlaoth, and its beer also enjoys a modest fame. Another popular export is a truffle-like mushroom that only grows wild in forests and is collected annually.
Thrives in: Agriculture, agroforestry, brewing, soldiers, horses
Wealth Status: Wulfbauer is a comfortable duchy: far from the richest or poorest. The Carwick line of dukes was notably more modest in their lifestyle than some noble houses, sometimes giving the impression that the duchy was less wealthy than it was. But the general livelihood of Wulfbauer's people is comfortable and productive.
Famous for: Horses, beer, and a cursed Dukeship
Rumors: The list of rumors begins with the daughter of the former Duke Harlow, revealed to be a mage but not sent to be raised by the Church. At the onset of the civil war, however, she was sent to the mage camps. Since then, rumors abound that she was sent directly by the Duke, or that she was sent despite the pleas of the Duke, that she waits piously for the end of the war, or that she took part in the uprisings spreading across the camps, or that she's now an outlaw mage, or that she's long dead. Then there was the long-reigning and steady Duke Harlow's assassination suspected but not confirmed at the hands of rebel mages. the death of his heir Avery Carwick in battle, and the death of Avery's younger brother (before news ever reached him that he was now the Duke of Wulfbauer), marked the end of the Carwick line. The Carwick family had served as the dukes of Wulfbauer for longer than anyone could remember, and this loss in the midst of war sent the duchy into turmoil, which began to uneasily steady when Marsden Therrien elevated to Duke. However, when Marsden died only months later, supposedly of sickness, despair gripped the people. Rumors quickly started to spread that the position was cursed, with many even whispering that the curse came from the mage daughter of Duke Harlow in revenge for having been turned over by her own family.
Military: Stalwart, reliable, and sturdy, Wulfbauer has always had a stout and robust army. Especially known for its cavalry.
War Support: Duke Harlow was an ardent, outspoken supporter of the war and of the Grand Duke and committed his full resources to the war effort and the construction of camps and fortresses in the north. (Though many wonder if his outspoken support was not, in part, an attempt to 'save face' after his daughter was Marked). After years of Wulfbauer's resources being bled into the war, Duke Avery began to scale back the duchy's material support of the war. The new Duke Erwin Therrien appears poised to completely withdraw military support for the Grand Duke, citing a shortage of manpower at home in the face of the impending winter.
