Personality:Kauzlarich is the the biggest coward you will
ever meet. Seriously, the guy is afraid of
everything- he won't even leave his room if he doesn't have another person with him! He'll flinch at the smallest noise, and has a tendancy to hide behind things when he's frightened.
Deep down, Kauzlarich hates himself. He
knows he's a pathetic waste of space, but at the same time he can't bring himself to change. Years of his parents reenforcing his behavior has caused him to get stuck in a hole he can't climb out of. Kauzlarich really wants to be brave someday, but he's too afraid of failing to try.
Kauzlarich's job in the Friends is to take advantage of his curse by conducting non-lethal torture on captives. Problem is, Hildegarde doesn't actually take captives that often. She really liked the
idea of "non-lethal torture" though, so that remains his official job description despite the lack of work.
Relationships:Kauzlarich's family is either dead, or imprisoned somewhere. He doesn't know which, and he's too afraid the answer to try and find out.
Kauzlarich is a member of The Friends, and tends to get along with them for the most part. He's unsure of why they put up with him the way they do-
he wouldn't put up with himself, so what do
they see in him?
Tiffany Starbrite is Kauzlaric's best friend in the entire world, and he would do
anything to make the younger boy happy.
Magic/Abilities:Kauzlarich (as well as the rest of his family) is cursed! He's unable to harm others permanently- any and all damage he inflicts on a person is essentially retconned after a few seconds. Imagine watching a slasher film, but you keep hitting the "previous scene" button on your remote whenever somebody gets brutally murdered. That's his curse in a nutshell.
Of course, this means that Kauzlarich is incapable defending himself. He's dead weight in any combat situation, and needs to rely on other people to protect him. This is especially nightmarish in Zantaric, where looking at somebody the wrong way is liable to leave you dead in a gutter. It's really no wonder Kauzlarich is such a wuss- if he wasn't he'd have died long ago.
History:The child of a cursed bloodline, Kauzlarich never stood much of a chance in Zantaric. His grandparents were dark mages who'd escaped from Connlaoth, and managed to pull off a hostile takeover of the Serenian town that had taken them in. Earning a reputation for being incredibly brutal, many people tried and failed to defeat them. Finally, a party of pacifistic heroes suceeded in beating the Von Appenzellers, placing a curse on them meant to prevent them and their descendants from taking any more lives then they already had. Of course, this didn't stop mobs from forming after the heroes had left, and the family was forced to flee for their lives.
Decades past, and what was left of the family found themselves living in Zantaric. It was the only place they could hide, as there was still a large bounty on their heads. The young Kauzlarich grew up learning to run and hide if he ever got into trouble- the family curse made him incapable of defending himself from the city's more unsavory elements. The boy grew very skittish as a result of this, always fearing the worst was lurking just around the corner. Years went by, and Kauzlarich found himself growing terrified of even simple tasks such as buying food from the market.
Eventually, the boy's learned cowardice cost him everything. The Von Appenzeller's past had finally caught up to them in the form of a bounty hunter. The family had been cornered. In an act of courage, Kauzlarich's father stepped forward to fight the man, instructing his son to take his mother and two siblings and run...
But Kauzlarich had already fled, slipping away minutes earlier to save himself.
It was a decision he immediately regretted. Why did he do it? It was so selfish, so...
foolish. He began to double back, then stopped. Would he see their bodies? Or would he see they had been taken away? That unknown was
scary, he didn't want to look! Oh god, if his family was still alive, then they must hate him now! Why did he do it? Why did he leave them to die?
Kauzlarich attempted suicide multiple times after that day, but the curse placed on his family prevented him from doing so. It was on his eighth attempt that Tiffany Starbrite found and stopped him. Faced with an inconceivable kindness standing before him, the young man decided to give life another chance and joined the Friends.
