Moiremeran was looking through the streets. He didn't know what 'currency' was, so he simply wandered the streets. People often game him strange looks. Not knowing any better, he'd think they where aggressive and murder them. Todays count of victims was 7.

Moiremeran walked through, searching his latest victim for items interest. He didn't know if anyone cared. He didn't understand rules. His whole life had been an arena. An arena without rules.

He looked up, sensing something near. "Hello?"

As usual when she went on her nightly adventures, Owl had altered her hair and eye color with illusion, turning them from their usual pink to a mousy brown, and then she'd donned her male clothes, feathered cape, and owl mask and made her way out into the city, sword sheathed at her side.

So far, it had proven to be a rather unremarkable night, but that was okay. Not every night was going to involve crime-fighting! But it still offered her a chance to get familiar with the area and the people, and catch up on some gossip at the local tavern. She could usually learn about wanted criminals there!

In fact, that was where she was heading when someone stepped into the path in front of her.l

Someone incredibly, absurdly tall.

That was wearing strange armor, who had gray skin!

And suddenly, he turned to her and spoke.

Owl's jaw dropped as she regarded him, her hand going to her sword out of reflex--because he looked like a bad guy, so best be prepared, right? And her heart raced at that idea, because this might be her chance to shine tonight!

With a dramatic flourish of her cape, she puffed up her chest, lifted her chin, squared her shoulders, and set her feet apart in a pose she hoped was mannish. "Hello, strange, tall man!" she said, pitching her voice lower than it naturally was. "What business have you this evening? Not up to any trouble, are we?"

((Thanks))

"Hello, strange, tall man!" said a confident voice, coming from a woman obviously trying not to look like a woman. "What business have you this evening? Not up to any trouble, are we?"

"Hello, strange, weird woman." said another confident voice, this one masculine. It was confident because it had nothing to fear... nothing could possibly kill him. "The only 'Trouble' around her is your attempt to appear male... Oh, and those dead people I just killed."

"But that's not going to deter someone like you."

((I suggest trying to find a peaceful way out... otherwise she's stuffed.))

Owl's face fell. This was the second person who'd figured out she was a girl right away. How did people do that--hold on. Did he just...?

"Did you just say you just killed people?"

Azariah kneeled in front of some corpses, taking some blood up in his fingers. He wore his usual clothing and armor, but this time the leather was dyed black. He looked around. These bodies were broken, mangled. No human could have done this.

He scowled, standing up and looking around some more. he turned to the Venatores behind him, who were also examining the bodies. "Alert the local chapter. We've got a beastly piece of filth on the loose. I want rifles above street level, following me. We're going hunting." He said, a sadistic smile emerging from his face, which, when compared to his omnipresent scowl, wasn't much better. The Venatores smiled as well, and left with haste.

Lynch raised his hand, and drew the holy symbol of Salem in the air. "Pater protegas me, et in nomine tuo mundabo" He said, and walked out into the night air. He kept his ears open for anything. The bodies were fresh, so whatever did this couldn't have gotten far.

Tak

"Did you just say you just killed people?"

He looked at her curiously. Did people not like others dieing?  How weird of them. "Only the seven of them, nothing to worry about."

A smell wafted through the air... Moirimeran's face suddenly went serious. Good-quality Gunpowder, the slight smell of quality fabrics... and what's this? numerous life signs. They're close.

He got back to the conversation at hand. "But as I said, nothing to worry about."

Rhindeer

"Nothing to worry about?!" Seven! Dear gods! And the fiend didn't look the least bit remorseful or concerned! Either way, that settled it. This...strange being...needed to be dealt with, and fast. This wasn't a mere assassin she was dealing with; this was a serial murderer.

Drawing her sword with a metallic hiss, the sword given to her by Ryk Handelar, Owl leveled the point at his torso. The man was taller than her, and wearing some strange suit, but she felt confident enough. Perhaps a lot of it was false bravado, but Ryk had given her some rather illuminating lessons and that, coupled with the disturbing memory of how she'd felled one of Rufus's large brutes, only made her braver.

She could take someone bigger than her if she was faster and more clever. "That is the exact opposite of things not to worry about, sir! And I'm afraid I'm going to have to vanquish you! Or at least truss you up real good for the authorities!" She added that last part because she wasn't so sure about killing.

"For you are in this Owl's domain, and this sort of wanton violence will not be tolerated! But because I'm a benevolent predator, I'll give you this one chance to give up and go peacefully, or taste my talons! Er, Talon." Another pause. "That's my sword's name if you don't get it. The choice is yours, fiend!"

"A little insignificant woman in a Cheap owl costume is threatening me?"

He almost laughed. It's not as if he could die or anything! Well, not for long anyway. "How adorable!" Finished the monster. "Go get your friends. It's not as if I could be defeated, you fool."

A large Greatsword that the mightiest of warriors would struggle to carry carelessly moved around his one hand, as if dancing. He gave it a tight grip, looking at it then at her.
"I'll give you one chance to turn around and run."

(OOC Not if I post first!!!!)

Vaultus had been enjoying his time in Arca. It was good to be back in Serendipity. All those he walked past always gave him suspicious looks, but that was because they feared his power. Or maybe he just looked suspicious. Whatever the reason, it didn't keep Vaultus from enjoying his pleasant stroll through the streets. As he walked, he picked up an all to familiar scent: blood. Following his nose, he began finding dead bodies. There were about seven in total scattered about. Intrigued, Vaultus immediately began heading in the direction that the killer had gone. It wasn't too long after that he found a girl in an owl costume and a very large man. It was no ordinary man. Maybe is wasn't even a man at all, but it was threatening the young woman. She was not a mage like he was, but he was curious about the creature, so he decided to intervene.

"Greetings," Vaultus said approaching the pair. "There's not a problem here is there?"

Lynch walked through the streets. He took the less conspicuous streets, his ears picking up the sound of men moving on the rooftops above him. They moved in time with his steps, four of them, armed with long muskets designed for power. He turned on his heel, and stepped into an alley. He could hear voices now. Two men and a woman. He stopped at a corner, and listened. It would appear one of the men was an aggressor, and the other was intervening. He peered around, blanketed by the shadows, and immediately knew who he was tracking. The giant with the gray skin. Definitely. He made some signals with his hands, and the riflemen dropped prone, awaiting for a signal to strike. He pulled his head back around the corner, and started loading his double-barreled pistol, offering up some silent prayers as he loaded the blessed ammunition. He dabbed some holy water from a bottle on his bandolier, and he anointed his gun, rapier, and forehead.

He waited, silently praying, llistening into the situation more before taking action.

Rhindeer

"Cheap?!" Owl balked at that, brow furrowing. "I find that accusation offensive! This cape was quite expensive, you know! It's not cheap work to pluck a dozen or so birds and sew the feathers on! Anyway, I'm hardly afraid of the likes of you. You know I broke a man's neck that was bigger than you! I wouldn't be so quick to judge, owls are small but their talons are wicked and--!"

That was when another man came onto the scene, and Owl huffed at his interruption. "Yes, there's a problem. It's that this man is a murderer and you're interrupting my heroic monologue. Now stand aside, sir. I don't want you to get hurt, this...this man--I think!--is mine!"

She glowered at the tall, gray one. "That is, unless you've reconsidered and wanna turn yourself in, because you know you stand no chance. Because you don't. So that would be smart."

The smell of gunpowder came ever-closer... The sound of the loading rifles wasn't too hard to pick up. "I don't care about your puny  cape."

The they where interrupted... By a weird man. His aura showed a weird form of magic... Maybe this man could kill him. Hopefully. "No trouble here, so go away or I'll eat you..."

"like will with her."
He wouldn't eat anyone in actual fact, as he has no need for eating. "Go ahead. Attack me. Kill me. Try."

OOC: And I'm jumping in- for at least a bit of time- since Jarrett, Owl + corpses = a thing 8D

-----

Somewhere in the background a man clad in a red suit- notably stained in blood, dried blood, but blood none the less, began to push a cart along. He was all but masked in shadows, the moonlight barely gracing over his form as he moved along, not near enough to fully over hear any of their conversations, but enough that the squeaky wheels on his cart may have been heard by them.

But he was trying to be discrete, and the bulky load he was carrying was a bit tiresome, considering  there was no horse or mule to drag the lumpy cargo int he cart- only Jarrett L'isson. And as he moved along, his brow collecting sweat, as did his fancy suit jacket, he didn't even bother to pause to wipe away at the beads that now trickled down his nose-
Though perhaps he should, because a cracked piece in the cobblestone caught the wheel at just the wrong angle that it bumped the cart and with a shhhhfffffffffft, one piece of the cargo fell out, belly side up.

The man, (or rather corpse- who was ALSO the cargo that had been spilled), was a bloodied mess, barely distinguishable in appearance- not that it mattered, the lump of the man on the ground was dead- and Jarrett paused with enough time to bend over and begin to heft the corpse up- that was, until he tried to discretely shift the dead body back underneath the blanket- and inadvertently knocked over a few other corpses that had been laying in the bed of the cart- seven to be exact- and all of them fell out...
except the one...

Which was the one Jarrett was still holding. He released a breath through his nose, staring from cart to corpses and contemplating how that even happened. And with a shrug, he unceremoniously began to heft the corpses back into it. No use in putting any finesse behind it- for each body was dead and mangled, anyway.

The Soot Wolves had been a part of the underbelly of Arca for a few hundred years. They had never had the near total control they now boasted since the current Red Wolf had taken the reigns. The connections and alliances he had made, brought more strength and intelligence to the guild than most of the lower ranked members could comprehend. Tonight, the detail that shadowed, and secretly protected Owl, the pet project of Canis Rufus, caught early sight of the grey man and had sent word quickly to the nearest Shadow runner. The guild, surprisingly, had no intel on the giant of a man. That was never good, but that didn't stop them from observing, and bringing out a specialist to analyze what they could from afar. The news delivered of his possible capabilities were terrifying. There was no way Owl could handle the man, there was no way the Soot Wolves could deal with him. He fell into the category of avoidance and deterrence.

It was not long after they spotted the brute, that news reached them of the hunters on his trail. That could possibly work in their favor. The Wolves would shadow, observe, gather intel on Azariah Lynch and the Esoteric Order of Salem while they were here in Arca, but would not interfere unless they caused undo trouble. It was always nice when someone from outside the Soot Wolves contained trouble. It left them in a more profitable position. Having members of The Esoteric Order of Salem around would finally give the Soot Wolves an opportunity to get more in depth information about their tactics and such. When Vaultus Eryth stepped onto the scene, the Wolves were a bit apprehensive. As a major player in the mage world, and a land owner of Serendipity, he was well known to them. He was powerful, and it seemed he was going to protect Owl, if she'd let him. It looked like it would be best that they simply watch for now, but their force was quickly growing. Without many big jobs around with Rufus out of town, the Night Wolves were quickly circling the city to make sure the area was free of any passerby. No need to have some innocent dope getting caught in the middle of what was likely to be a madening battle in Arca. So soon after the Mountain Cat brawl, it was best to minimize witnesses.

As a group of Night Wolves came across Jarrett, they bled into the shadows, but when they realized who it was they split into two groups. One circled to make sure the street remained clear, the other dashed out to the assassin and started picking up the corpses, tossing them back in the cart. One of the Wolves pulled out a rolled parchment and handed it to L'isson. It was a contract for an assassination that Rufus had asked be delivered to the man before he had left. The assassin didn't have to complete the task, but Rufus liked to spread out his options.

Owl had been about to reply to the tall man's threat with something that would no doubt be clever and put him in his place, but that was when...

Things happened.

Namely that movement behind the gray man caught her attention, some poor sod hauling along a cart, and for a second Owl felt a twinge of panic, like she might need to warn the guy to get out of here! But then something fell out of the cart.

And then more things fell out of the cart.

Those things being bodies.

Forgetting about the hulking man before her, Owl wound up staring at the man currently holding one of the corpses, because, uh, that suit looked really familiar. And his body language.

No. Way.

"Are you kidding me?!" Other people had come out the shadows to help him and yep. That was him. That was Jarrett. Oh gods, why did he have so many corpses?! Jarrett and corpses usually meant horrible things--aside from the usual horrible things corpses tended to mean. Because Jarrett tended to...do weird things with dead bodies.

"Where are you going with those?!"

Jarrett only blinked when the mysterious men (or rather, Soot Wolves) seemed to come out of nowhere and began to help him- and then deposited something into his hand. He didn't bother to look at it and tossed it into the cart with the corpses-
But then a familiar voice rang out just as Jarrett was hefting up the very last corpse- and with dead body in hand, he turned to Owl.

"Taking them back to your house," he said simply, and proceeded to toss the final corpse into the pile.

"WHAT?! Why? No! No you're not! You're gonna stay right where you are so I can deal with you when I'm finished here because you are doing no such thing!" Owl shouted, a panicked note in her voice.

That was seven. Seven corpses. He was CARTING a cart full of SEVEN CORPSES back to her house?! How did he even plan on getting them past the gate? The servants? Why was he bringing seven corpses to her home? Suddenly, this gray brute was not so interesting anymore, as she found herself more interested in the man that seemed bound and determined to ruin her life.

There were more men involved. As Lynch listened in, it sounded like the giant, gray heathen was being assisted by some men, and the girl apparently knew them. His face twisted up with fury, and he quietly spit on the ground. Salem, He thought. Anger not at me for what I am about to do, for these men have fallen under sway of devils and filth. I will remove them from your earth, Lord.

With that, he rounded the corner, stepping out into the light. The two other venatores that were with him at the scene of the crime caught up, and followed him out. The three men stood there, arms crossed, as the four men with muskets stood up, aiming down the sites of their scoped long bore muskets. The men on the roof were joined by six others that had just arrived, and soon enough, there were ten muskets pointed at Moiremeran.

"Stand aside, girl!" Lynch said in his rough, commanding voice. It carried an unearthly power with it, and with a voice like his, it seemed like he could command angels. "Two weeks, I've been tracking this sinning heathen, eager to wipe his inhuman influences from history." He continued, and he drew his pistol and rapier off of his belt, and the men at his side followed suit. The sound of firearms cocking filled the air.

The Wolves in the shadows did not wish to interfere. They would observe as long as they could. A pair stood ready to rush to defend Owl, as another pair preparred to aid Jarrett should the Blood Mage assassin need any. They cared not for the grey hulk or even the Lord Vaultus, but the men massing in the shadows drew their small crossbows and aimed them at everyone not Owl or Jarret. If anyone made a move for the girl the Wolves would spring into action. Rufus would not be pleased if she was harmed in any way. Hopefully these worshipers of Salem knew their craft well enough to take out the strange man without any trouble spilling onto the Soot Wolves.
