Whenever the Cleara Verdad paid a visit to the La'marri village, everything was lively. Every so often, the nomadic group would travel there to trade goods and tidings of the outside world with those in the isolated village. The villagers loved them for it, but also because the Cleara Verdad would help protect their village from danger. In return, they allowed the group to preach the teachings of Aiden, so long as the religion wasn't being forced upon the daizens of their home. Now and then, a believer would join the forces of the Cleara Verdad, so trips back to the village gave them opportunities to reunite with loved ones.

To Sansi, the village looked the most  beautiful  right before dawn. When the sun rose, everything was covered with the soft glow of the warm red and yellow hues. However, right before that, when the night reached her end, the stars always seemed to shine so desperately before the dark blue velvet sky gave way to the silk of the morning. Sansi always enjoyed this transition, which was why her guard shifts were usually in the early hours of the morning. Security was heavier than ever, especially since raiders from the south were increasing due to a bad harvest the season prior.

Before going on her shift, she always started her days at the village by visiting the old stone temple in the middle of the village to pray to Aiden. On the cold floor did she kneel to pray, the cold nipping at the tip of her ears and nose, though she paid it no mind. When she was done with her meditation for this particular morning, the elf rose and examined the ceiling.
The constellations are aligned, again, she noted as she made her way towards the village's outer wall.

Though some had placed importance to that occurrence, the elf maiden always shrugged it off. It was not relevant, anymore, but an example of artful scientific discovery. Still, she could not deny the temple's heightened sense of spirituality, though she never could place her finger on it. The elf stretched as she walked through the streets, content. That was another thing about the early morning; it was always so quiet. She tapped the night guard who was posted in front of the village's wall shoulder. He jolted in surprise, but was quick to greet the Helm Saint. Sansi gave a nod in return before taking his position to greet the rising sun.

It had been decades since Vannessa last came to La'marri. She was glad to see, that at least on the outside, The village had not changed. It was still fairly early morning when she walked up toward the front gates, She glanced at the soldier standing off to the side she pulled back her cloak to reveal that she had no weapon on her, but then again why would she carry weapons, she could generate them in a matter of seconds. There was something familiar about the soldier's armor, she wore a gilded helm, but it wasn't something that Vannessa could easily place so she moved onward, firstly to the temple.

It had been a while since she last prayed to her mother, 'Mom? I don't know if you are listening, or if you can even hear me. I've only been told that gods can hear prayers, but that never seemed to be the case during that short time you lived with father and I. The last of my children died not to long ago, nearly three months now. Is she with you? Vannessa sighed and stood up from the spot she had knelt. She had never really prayed much, her mother never seemed to acknowledge that she had prayed. Vannessa walked out of the temple and onto the market.

Markets are fun, at any one time, Vannessa had four coins on her; a copper piece of ten, a copper piece of eight, a silver half piece and a gold piece. She would move from stall to stall forming the coins in her hands that she needed. it was nearing noon when she finally stopped to rest. She noticed more soldiers than she remembered there being last time she had come to La'marri, she wondered if something had happened. but then again it had been decades since her last visit, so maybe this was just normal now.

She was quite surprised when she came to the square as a massive crowd had gathered with a man standing in the center preaching apparently. Vannessa decided to sit off to the side to listen, if this big a crowd had gathered it had to be good. From he seat a little ways from the back of the crowd she could clearly see the speaker, to his left there was a giant of a man wearing a gilded chest piece. and the speaker himself wore gilded gloves, she only knew this because he talked with his hands. There seemed to be a theme going here, so far she had seen three crucial pieces of black gilded armor. She remembered something about a suit of armor that fit the same description but she still couldn't recall the memory.

"For an entire warband to defect like we were told was a bit tricky to believe, but they were causing trouble to several of the towns around them, so we had to put a stop to them," the speaker was apparently telling a story about the past, they seemed to be a group of mercenaries or something similar, "So we approached the group, Segari, Sansi and myself, to try and reach a peaceful solution. Aiden may demand strength in combat, but he also demands strength of mind."

'Aiden? I know that name.' Thought Vannessa. Now that the memory had some leverage it came rushing at her. Aiden was her mother's champion, he fought for her using armor that was made especially for him. Later on when Aiden had died he was buried in his armor, the armor that the speaker, the giant of a man, and that gate guard were all wearing, she was certain that there were also two more members with his platelegs and his boots. looking off to her left there stood the gate guard, helm atop her head. Vannessa was much too rattled to listen to the rest of the speech. but she would follow the helm bearer once she started moving as the helm would obstruct her view.

Eventually the crowd started clapping and parted before the speaker and his companion, most followed them, others went on to do other things, the important thing is the helm bearer had not made after her companions, going in the opposite direction even, back towards the market. Vannessa followed, whenever the helm bearer would stop at a stall, she would go past her to the next stall and wait for her to continue moving, sometimes buying small things but constantly glancing over at the helm bearer.

Rinata was tired, she'd decided, foolishly, to postpone sleep until she had visited the towns children, her favorite pastime. She was playing with a game with several young girls, something about jumping a rope a certain  number times, determined by a six sided die (she didn't fully understand really) when she noticed someone following one of her comrades, Sansi.

"I apologize children, I must go, I'll be back to play with you later, remember your prayers." The children nodded and Rin moved along behind Sansi, moving quickly to keep the other Verdad Saint in sight. She noticed how the other moved ahead of Sansi, without appearing to follow her from most points of view. "If you want to catch your prey, you must not let the pray know you are stalking it. If the prey knows it is being followed it will either turn and fight, or turn and flee. You, my friend, are a very experienced huntress."

Rin's ears twitched as she picked up the voices of the cat in the area, it was a distraction so she canceled it out.

Segari had stood uncomfortably and stiffly behind his leader as Sinead recounted a tale of the Saints' valor and intelligence in a scuffle that nearly became more. Ever the alert one, he refused to join in the thrall of weaving yarns whether they be truthful or not. Instead he focused his attention on the crowd. This village in La'marri may be one of their favorite places to rest, offering protection for more recruits but, the harden soldier knew perhaps better than most that there were always enemies even if they were unseen ones. He wold hate to see this place so full of life destroyed simply because the followers of Aiden happened to enjoy it. All it would take was one unhappy villager and then everything could come tumbling down.

Every movement was observed and categorized. The presence of weapons both suspected and evident was noted as well as escape routes for civilian, soldier, and convict alike. It was an old habit that the old dog could not give up even if he wanted to and he most certainly had no intention of doing so.

Tensely, he followed Sinead when the man had finally finished, a enormous dark shadow with eyes ever shifting beneath thick brows. His sweeping glances did not take in the sights of Rinata or Sansi, causing brow to furrow further. Undecided as to whether or not to continue his tailing or to find out where his comrades had settled off to he found himself pausing before clapping a heavy hand onto the Gauntlet Saint's shoulder before jerking his head off in the other direction. Sinead could take care of himself for now. The girls though might be a different story, not of course that he would ever voice that to them. He did value his life after all.

Sansi could almost recite Sinead's speech in the middle of the market. The elf didn't much approve of his boastfulness.
Or his overt fondness for that story in particular, she thought, her ears ringing with swordsong at the very memory. Aye, she remembered those happenings very well. Eventally, the story had ended peacefully, but not before many had died. Tension between certain clans was still prevalent, though the Cleara Verdad sometimes stopped by to moniter the situation. Bored, her eyes scanned the crowd. Sansi could not deny Sinead's charisma; he was a very good story teller, and lured in many with his words.

Words of hope and of peace, that's what these people feed off the most, she mused.
The elf enjoyed watching things from afar. Being in the middle of crowds made her feel uncomfortable, so she avoided them when she can. Thus, when Sinead's story ended, she quietly slipped away. With some time to spare, the elf decided to browse through the market stalls. So, with her Helm still in place did the elf maiden glide  through the market place, stopping now and then to admire an artisan's handiwork and to exchange a few words.

Sansi frowned, feeling uncomfortable as she reached the fifth stall. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw someone throw her glances every so often. Sansi was discreet with her observation, but she managed to pick up details, one by one. A tanned woman with brown hair. Poor looking clothes. Her appearance was more or less normal, yet there was something striking about her. Sansi brushed it off as her curiosity calling for attention. Yet the elf couldn't help but to notice that the woman was staring so intensely at her face. It took her a moment to realize it wasn't her face, but the helm on her head.

Perhaps she's shy,  the elf mused, focusing her attention on a vividly woven tapestry of a phoenix.
Most were fascinated by the armor, and wished to know more about it. If that was the case, the elf didn't mind, though she was constantly wary of thieves... Not that she couldn't handle them, easily. Still, whatever her reasons, Sansi did not like being stalked.  Threats in places like these had to be dealt with caution.  Sansi could not jeopardize the Cleara Verdad's reputation in this village, which could very well happen if something bad happened.  There was something odd about this woman, though Sansi could not put her finger on it.

So deep in thought was she that Sansi nearly jumped out of her skiin as she heard Rinata approach her, she was that tense.
"Good afternoon, Rinata," Sansi greeted as she folded her hands together to keep from fidgeting.
She hated to admit her nervousness. She approached the nekama and bent to whisper in her ear.
"Do you see that woman watching me?" she whispered.
"What can you tell me of her?"

Zane

'A Nekama?' Vannessa thought as the helm bearer approached the Nekama. the two appeared to be friends, or perhaps, allies. Vannessa decided to get closer, but she would have to be careful.

She advanced towards them, but this time not looking at them. She instead used peripheral vision to view her query. Sure enough, the Nekama was wearing the gilded boots. Vannessa walked passed the two saints and over to a clothing vender, picking up a shirt and holding it up in the air, that was mainly a coy excuse to continue viewing the saints. After a few minutes of "looking" at the shirt, she formed some coins in her hand and laid them on the stall, walking away with the shirt.

She moved on to another stall, having broken down the shirt while her back was to the two saints. She constantly kept the two of them in her line of sight, be it direct or peripheral, this game of cat and mouse reminded her of when her father taught her to stalk, before he changed his name, before he became a soldier, before he died. Vannessa shook her head, it would not behoove her to dwell on the past at this time.

Dreamwolf

Rin nodded as Sansi asked about her curious 'friend'. "She's been following you at least since you passed Sinead. Segari is behind us, keeping his distance. Not sure where Samuel is at this point. Your little friend is a good tracker, she doesn't show she's interested in you, makes it look like coincidence that she's close by. Takes obvious advantage of being in a crowd. She knows what she's doing. She made one mistake though..." Rinata grinned at her friend. "She tried playing cat and mouse with a real cat. I caught her the moment I laid eyes on her."

Winters-Feather

Sansi thoughtfully pondered over Rin's words, nodding now and then. Whoever was following her was awfully persistent, but too bold for her own good. The only question was why the stalker womn even bothered. The elf frowned. Rin's counsel was doing nothing to ease her troubled mind. Sansi sighed, her eyes sweeping the crowd. She was getting tired of this nonsense. If there was a conflict, she wanted to end it, quickly.
"I'm not in the mood for games," she said, dryly.

Where was that dark headed woman?
Sansi's keen eyes swept through the crowds. Rinata was right. This mysterious stranger was a master of hiding, but Sansi had her face etched into her memory. The elf woman found her target blending in with a group of young maidens and wives flocked around the clothing stalls. Sansi made a gesture for her friend to follow.  No cat and mouse, no games.
"Keep behind her," she instructed Rin.

Tall and proud, Sansi glided through the crowd towards the woman who stalked her. Sansi did not look at her, not directly. Instead, the elf always kept her gaze high and straight, as if she was looking past and through everything around her. A hand was kept near her sword. If the stalker tried anything, Sansi would be ready, there would be no doubt about it. When she got near the woman, Sansi stopped.

"Come," she ordered, giving her a stern glance before walking towards the temple she had prayed at earlier. Though it was open to everybody, it was rarely frequented at this hour. In any case, the elf was sure civilians would leave the elf alone if they saw her talk to  a stranger there, though the elf woman hoped that wouldn't be the case. After all, people ought to pray in peace.

Zane

"Damn, the helm bearer is headed right at me" Vannessa mumbled to herself. She could try to get out of there, but the woman was sure to follow. Vann had lost sight of the boot bearer in the crowd but she could only assume that she was somewhere behind her. There would be no escape. Right now she had two options, she could fight her way out, which wasn't actually an option, there were far too many people in the market. Or she go with them, from there her fate was mostly in their hands.

Vannessa took a deep breath before following the elf into the temple. Looking behind her she realized that she had assumed right, the nekama was following her. The temple was near empty save for one person cleaning the alter. Vannessa sat in one of the pews, somewhat relieved that she had been led to a temple, simply because killing in a sacred place was near impossible to justify. "Tell me about Aiden, the one that man in the square was preaching about. He is what, your Deity?" Vannessa tried to keep as much malice out of her words as she could, but she viewed these people as possible grave robbers of her mother's favorite mortal. Her father.

Dreamwolf

"He is something like that." Rin had stayed behind the woman, as asked, and sat by the entrance, the boots glinting as she stretched first one leg, then the other. "He is the originator of our faith, but Sansi can tell you all about that, miss stalker. And next time you decided to play the cat, do it far from me. It's insulting that you might think yourself a better stalker than me."

GoblinFae

The Breastplate Saint finally caught up with the girls, choosing to circle around the long way as he observed the dance they were playing with their prey. He continued his watchful gaze even as he approached from the far side of the temple. Segari was not truly concerned about his fellow saints, they had both proven themselves in the art of combat a hundredfold. No, his bigger concern was of the mouse that Rinata the quick-footed was in the process of taunting.

He was not in the mood for trying to settle cat-fight and then having to explain it to Sinead. This village was one of their stables for collecting fine soldiers and followers, it would not do to turn them against the followers of Aiden.

Segari came around the side and rested his bulk against the corner of the building, arms crossed and face stoic as stood like a wall himself, firm and unyielding. A warning glance was sent Rinata's way but he was not entirely sure she would even heed it. 'Women, he internally groaned, waiting for a cue to interfere.

Sansi was grateful that the woman was cooperative and not hostile. That made everything easier and a little bit more pleasant. The elf maiden nodded politely towards the disciple cleaning the alter before arching a brow at Vannessa's question. Her tone was almost mocking, her voice  bitter and cold at the name of 'Aiden'. It was curious, yet set the elf maiden immediately on guard. Something was queer about this woman, though Sansi still did not yet understand what or why.

Sansi grimaced at her companion's comment. Rinata was a good and kind soul... if not a competitive one. And now, here-  in an ancient temple in the middle of a city with fragile relationships-  was not the place to start fights.
"Rinata, hush!" she scolded with a sigh, her gaze turning towards Segari.
The elf solemnly nodded towards the other Saint. She found herself calmer in his presence. She turned her attention back towards Vannessa, musing over her question.

"Rinata is correct," Sansi said.
"That man you heard speak was Sinead, the Bearer Saint. Aiden is our god. He is the Smith and Protector of the world and of his Children."
The elf maiden paused. Something told her that this woman that to listen to Aiden stories was not quite her purpose. But who was she and what did she want? Sansi still didn't know.
"Forgive me," she said, "But I have not properly introduced myself. I am Sansi, and this is Rinata. Who are you?"

Zane

Vannessa sighed, knowing that they had made a deity out of a man was challenging, but they at least got his personality correct, Aiden actually died protecting an ally, but it seemed that some of his mother's legacy got into his name, listing Aiden as the smith of the earth, Vannessa wondered if her mother had anything to do with that. It would make sense, he mother had not had a hand in the world for a long time, Vannessa was so lost in thought that she almost didn't hear the Saint's question.

"My name, is Vannessa Radiant. Tell me, what does this Sinead Bear?" her voice was much softer, all bitterness gone, she was now generally curious about this religion, instead of suspicious.

Dreamwolf

Rin took both of the silencing commands from her comrades in stride. She was a cat, and a cat was never going to let anyone get away with trying to best her. Rin leaned a little further into the seat, a feat that most would call impossible. She licked her forearm and ran it over her left ear, glaring at the new woman who called herself Vannessa. It was a glae only a cat could accomplish, one that both commanded silence and explanations. The look a cat gave you after you scolded it for doing something it had not in fact done.

GoblinFae

Segari felt his shoulders tense in defense as his hackles raised and one hand lowered to his hip. "What is it to you Lady Radiant that our leader carries? His burden is his own and none of your concern. If you seek weakness you will not find it here. We are loyal to Aiden and Sinead both."

An ever cautious man, it was therefore no surprise that the his gruff manner was also seen as accusatory and brusque to others. This was his family and he would defend them to the death if need be but he would rather quell anything before it starts simply because it meant less work and less explaining for later.

Now that Rin was properly behaving herself- though her indignant expression did not escape the elf- Sansi now  could pay sole attention on Vannessa. Though the strange woman had lowered her guard, which made it easier for the elf, Sansi was well versed to know that though  the strange woman had changed her appearance, it was too early for Sansi to shift hers. Sansi nodded politely as Vannessa offered the elf her name. Sansi began to ponder over the strange woman's question. Why was she so curious about Sinead?

Sansi was about to speak up when Segari asked those questions in her stead, if not a bit gruffly.
"Calm yourself, brother," she said.
No fighting in the temple, that was the unspoken rule.
Sansi sighed as she tried her best to answer the question. It was in Vannessa's right to know, but Sansi, too, was loyal, and was still wary of this woman's nature. So, she decided to keep the answer short and simple, for now.
"He bears the gauntlets of our Lord," she explained with a frown.

"Why did you follow me, Vannessa?" Sansi asked, speaking plainly.
"Most interested in the faith address us directly, but you did not. Why?"

Zane

As the gruff man, is he could be called a man because he was huge, spoke Vannessa's eyebrows slowly raised, it was every right of her's to know but they wouldn't know that. As the elf spoke up again, she just shook her head, "So would that make you all bearer saints? As you bear his chestplate, you bear his helm, and you bear his boots." she nodded to each of them respectively, "But no, you referred to the man named Sinead as The bearer saint, marking him as the only bearer saint. I could understand if you have secret that must be kept secret in fact I could respect that, what I can not nor will not respect is being lied to. As to why I followed you, I have my reasons, none of which had a hostile intent. And why would I approach you? Your leader talks about violent clashes and almost all of you are armed, your leader carries ten blades for crying out loud! As you can see I myself do not carry a weapon so if a fight did break out I would be near defenseless, little more to protect me then the cloth on my back, I've never heard of your religion before so I fel-" at that moment Sinead burst into the temple, cutting off her rant.

"Raiders are approaching the gate, Samuel is getting the people to safety, we are to hold the gate." with that he was gone.

Dreamwolf

Rin was about to comment on their faith being unknown, they were after all quite popular with most small communities, when Sinead rushed in. Without waiting for acknowledgement from her companions she took off with a quick. "I'm heading out."

She rushed to the gate and leapt up, not even needing the power of the boots to find purchase on the wall to set herself with the archers. she gazed out and saw the approaching raiders. "Like lambs, rushing towards a tigers den."

GoblinFae

He was torn between duty and suspicion. His sense of justice, of right and wrong, of defending that which he cared for was divided in half. To stay meant his companions would be left on the wall without him, his strength and defense withheld from them should they need it. However, in turn to join them meant leaving this stranger behind.

Segari did not like it. There was something about her that truly was strange in every sense of the word. She knew too much in his mind, and gave little as answer for bearing the knowledge. If he stayed with her, he left the Saints' exposed in a frontal attack, should he join them though he could very well be leaving them all to be stabbed in the back by the wench.

Growling in frustration he made his decision though it did not come lightly. A stern look was sent towards the woman as he gruffly shoved past her. He was a man of his word, his duty as a Saint came above his own self-doubt and suspicion. It would be better to be with the others no matter the outcome. He would just have to keep an eye on each side.

He ascended the stairs three or four at a time until he reached the top and cast a critical eye over the wall to the oncoming offense. They would be able to handle it; they had faced much worse than this in the past. A glance back down the way he came was the last thought he allowed himself to spare concerning the girl before letting all his senses to focus on the here and now. There were lives to save within the walls he stood upon. Carelessness and distraction could not be afforded yet.

Winters-Feather

Sansi jaw tightened Vanessa's sharp words.
It was wrong to raise one's hands against someone whose opinion differed from their own, perhaps for good reason, but Sansi felt  a strong and violent urge well within her. How dare this woman speak to her this way? A lot of questions were triggered in her mind about this woman. Vanessa clearly disliked the Saints, and their purpose. How was she lying?
"Hostile intent or not, may I not be suspicious?" Sansi flatly interrupted.
"As for our weapons, we carry them to protect our people and the people of this village," Sansi continued, trying to keep her temper and her pose.
The elf stood taller.
"Further-" she continued, but then Sinead burst through the temple and gave them the warning.

Sansi caught her breath, a dangerous glint in her eyes. She couldn't believe it.
One minute my eye strays, and this happens.
The elf turned back to glare at Vanessa. She had much to say to this  woman. Did she really took them to be but mere murderers? How sad. In any case, it was her job to protect the people, Vannessa included.
"You'll be safest here," she told the woman. "We have much to discuss later, I'm sure."

With that, Sansi allowed Rin to run off, following Segari up the tower. Her keen eyes narrowed as she watched the raiders approach. She tsked.  These poor men were growing desperate. Sansi considered singing, but the elf suspected that now wasn't quite the place for it. She could fight without it, for now. The elf drew her sword and grabbed the shield that hung on her back.
"Let them try to claim this village," she growled before flying down the steps and stormed out of the front gate, where a line of foot soldiers were awaiting the greet the raiders. Sansi made her way to the front, her sword in one hand, shield in the other. They were ready.

---

The raiders, armed with both torches and weapons,  lined up in formation a quarter a mile away from the awaiting soldiers. All was silent and still for a few moments. Their leader, a gruff dark haired skinned and hair man rode up on a majestic stallion. He scanned the army with a jeer.
"Well met," he bellowed, mockingly. His men laughed.
"Where is your leader!?"
Sansi's eyes strayed towards Sinead. Whatever this man wanted, she was sure it was not for a peaceful parley.
