No one really talked to Nadya like this. Like she was just a normal person. They ignored her, or walked on eggshells about her, or seemed to think that she was something more - or less - than she really was. Non-nobles seemed to think that she would look down on them, and other nobles seemed to look down on her. She supposed she couldn't blame anyone for looking down on her.
The cat had come between them, seeking more attention. She liked His Nibs, and she liked the boy too. He was sweet, and a little silly. There was an odd sensation in her face, and at first Nadya didn't realize that she was smiling at him. It was a small, shy smile, but a smile nonetheless.
"I don't think you're silly at all. I think you're very sweet, and kind, and compassionate, and maybe just a little reckless. When you jumped off that loft I think my heart lept into my throat. I'm glad you weren't hurt."
