Just a few things to keep in mind for those looking to play the highest of nobility in Serendipity! :3

  • Whoever claims the province must play the High Lord or Lady of the House that controls it.
  • Only one province per player please!
  • You can recruit other players to play more members of your House! 8D
  • High Lords and Ladies should be Serenian.  (Remember, Serenian's are a race of humans!)  Variation from this requires admin approval.
  • Most of the High Lords/Ladies will be middle-aged, married, and have children! Please keep this in mind when creating your characters!
  • Missing an activity check means your House has lost control of the province! O: Your province thread will be archived and a new one posted up for claiming.
  • You can drop a province anytime you like if you don't feel like running the House anymore. (:
  • Be aware of consequences! Treasonous plotting, assassination attempts, backstabbing...these are fun to play but remember the sovereign and the collective power of the other Houses can strip a High Lord or Lady of all title and rank if they are found guilty of these things! IC actions will have IC repercussions.
  • Whatever info you write for your province must be consistent with its canon history, which you can read in the wiki.  The info in the wiki is considered set in stone for the provinces! You may expand upon the province information, but cannot change what is already there.
[li]Feel free to use your province thread to write up information about your House and post updates! Province information should be recorded in its wiki page.[/li][/list]

Claiming a province lets you play the highest of nobility in Serendipity, and you get to maintain a little piece of the kingdom yourself. (:

Every now and then, usually after an activity check, some provinces will open up and we'll make a claiming post on the news board! :3  If you want to prepare, here's the necessary reading material!

Serendipity Province Plotting / Ravensway
September 16, 2009, 07:45:13 PM
RAVENSWAY
Current Events

  • Knaiaran, Lorin's little brother, has assumed the position of regent lord until his brother can be found.
  • Lorin Siilan, High Lord of Ravensway, has disappeared from the Siilan estates.  As he left no word of any departure, his family suspects treachery and has sent messenger ravens to every province to search of some trace of him.

Located in the south, Ravensway borders Adela and consists largely of forested land. It has gained a reputation as a place of illusion and fey trickery.  Hosts a large population of faerie folk and gained it's name from the sentient white ravens who serve them. House Siilan has held Ravensway since the Founding.

Wyvern and basilisks from Adela's forests have ventured upward and now inhabit the forests of Ravensway.  The wildlife and fey make this forest dangerous for those unfamiliar with its threats, and it provides Ravensway with its most reliable defense.

Ruling House: Siilan

  • LOCATION: southwestern border
  • BORDERS: Altas Verde, Kia's Court, Jadenshine, Tirial, Adela
  • LAND: heavy forest

Serendipity / Available Ranks In Serendipity
August 03, 2009, 01:06:11 AM
This topic is out of date. Please bear with us as we update and provide a new and improved leadership ranks page! If you have questions please contact a mod or admin.

This handy little list lays out some available ranks and the current leaders or lack thereof. You're not necessarily limited to just these occupations, though. (:

Claiming Open Positions

  • Positions which are always open and can be filled by an unlimited number of characters are green and marked with an asterisk * like so.  Feel free to join these positions without approval!
  • Exclusive positions can only be filled by one character.  They require no approval!
  • All other positions are open unless noted! :D

Lastly, feel free to reply to this post to let us know of any changes and updates that need to be made. Be sure to include a link to the relevant character profile.

In the spirit of organization, here are some tags you can add to your character profile topic title! An admin will (eventually) see the tag and move the profile for you!

The tags are:
[archive] - character will be moved to the archive board. For characters you no longer wish to play
[deceased] - for characters who have died. ): Moved to the Deceased Characters board.
[location name] - if your character's place of residence had changed, write the name of their new country or residence and we'll move it to the right board.

Tags go in brackets, in the SUBJECT of the post. Like so:

Plotting Center / Character Roulette! (list posted!)
December 30, 2008, 12:42:28 AM
Time to mix things up. P:

This here is going to be like a character grab bag.  Here's how it works:

Pick any open characters you have who need threads.
Post their names here, with a link to their profiles.
In two days, I'll put every name into a hat and start drawing pairs and trios of names, and those are the characters who have to thread together.
I'll post the names here in this thread, then we all go off and play! <3

Before you chuck your characters in, make sure you're down with the randomness! Characters who live thousands of miles away from each other might be paired together, but we'll just have to find ways to work it out. That's part of the fun! (: The purpose of this is to RP with different people, to challenge ourselves with characters who might not otherwise thread together, and to encourage spontaneity!

Sionad Tundra and Valleys / One Very Lost Prince [open]
December 11, 2008, 01:09:23 AM
For many miles, the only sound in Lorin's ears had been the wind moaning over the drifts and his footsteps crunching in the snow.  He couldn't feel his face or his feet, despite the fur-lined clothing given to him by the men who had seized him in Serendipity.

They had blindfolded and bound him, kept him gagged.  That blindfold had never come off.  The last few days had passed in darkness and silence, for whoever they were they had not spoken in his hearing.  He'd thought at first that they had taken him to demand a ransom from his house, then that perhaps this was the doing of some rival family looking to eliminate his claim to the throne.  Yet neither explanation made sense.  If it was wealth they were after, why had they not bothered to strip his rings or earrings, any one of which could have fetched a fair amount of coin?  When they had taken him, he'd felt his coin purse torn from his belt and heard the music of gold coins as it was thrown to the ground, discarded.  And if they sought to remove him from contention from the throne—which wasn't even under contention—why was he not dead yet?

Not that his prospects for a long life looked encouraging.  He'd escaped from his assailants and into a white desert.  It must have been high noon just then, yet the sky never lightened from a steel grey.  The snow had not stopped since his wild flight through the blizzard last night.  That blizzard had saved him.  He could not see where he ran, but neither could they.

Now the snow drifted light and gentle and he was wary, crouching beneath a tangle of leafless thicket and scanning the clouds.  They had been traveling upon some flying creature.  It might have been near or far.  They could be on his heels or hunting for him miles away.  No way of knowing.

Yet he was not alone.

Hovering around him, entranced by his strangeness, played ice sprites and elemental spirits.  Invisible to most, they responded to the fey blood in him and revealed themselves.  Talking to them was proving near impossible.  He must have been very far north for they did not speak at all like the spirits of Serendipity that he was so familiar with, but he was making do with mental pictures and emotional exchanges.

"Which way is the village again?" he asked, shaking in the cold, sending out thoughts reflecting a gathering of humans and a sense of inquisitiveness.  His attempts to ask them where his assailants were had only elicited bemusement and boredom with his failure to communicate.

One of them, an ice faery who appeared as a white blur to his sight, drifted up to his head and began working a tiny braid into his hair.

He clenched a gloved fist into the snow to keep from swatting at her.  A faery's anger belied their small size.  "No, I need to find the village.  Please."  Some of his desperation came through.  Not helpful that.  The fey tended to find human suffering fascinating.

An ice elemental who had been particularly helpful streaked off to what Lorin thought was the northwest.  In that direction he might find his salvation.  Or a band of brigands who'd sooner butcher him for meat.  Or slavers who'd have him back in binds and on the next caravan to market.  His swarm of fey couldn't tell him exactly what waited for him, only that there was a gathering of humans there.

He'd take the risk.

With a last wary glance at the clouds and the empty horizon he ventured out of his cover, folding his arms over his chest and  hunching his shoulders for as much warmth as he could get.  If nothing else, he would not look immediately out of place to anyone who found him.  His hood and scarf hid his blonde hair and Serenian features.

He angled for a route more westward than what the elemental had shown him, thinking it safer to keep off the most direct route to the village—or whatever it was—lest his enemies think to search that stretch of land.  How far it might be to the village, whether or not it was even within walking distance, these were things he could not afford to think on.

Hope was his only resource now.

News and Updates / cha-cha-cha-changes
October 29, 2008, 08:27:03 PM
Check out that new joining board.  Whoa, crazy stuff eh? Joining has been combined with character profiles. If you play on RotE you've probably already seen it. Every character profile is now its own single post, and each one goes in the forum corresponding to their residence, or Wanderers and Independents if they have no residence.

Over the last few days we've gone through every character in the activity check and every profile posted previously and put them (hopefully) where they belong.  What I need now is for everyone to go look through the new character directory and make sure you can find all your characters and that they are in the right place.

If your character is NOT listed, there could be a few reasons for that:
-that character has no profile (please to be making one)
-they weren't posted in the last activity check (we archived any characters not posted there)
-I just totally missed it (oops)

Whatever the reason, if your character's not listed and they should be, drop us message here or through PM with the character's name and/or a link to their profile and we'll move it asap. P:

Don't forget to check your signatures! Some links to profile threads won't be pointing to the right topic anymore. :3

One more thing: Necromantia and Thanatos characters are listed under Wanderers And Independents for the moment, as we're still shuffling some things around.

I will try to get out a post for everyone who is waiting for one before I have to leave, but I don't know when I will finish them! I'm guessing if I really try I can get one out a day before I go. x3  That is all.

Ketra / Buttons Are Neat [hikaru/open]
July 21, 2008, 01:56:23 PM
Rain had gotten good at weaving through the legs of the crowd without getting stepped on, and had come to prefer the busy streets to the deserted ones.  It was a way to hide in plain sight.  Most people didn't even notice the little blue fox dodging between them, so focused were they on where they were going.  Around his neck bobbed a brilliant orange ribbon tied in a happy bow.

He found himself now on Ketra's main street, skittering here and there through the crowd and leaping out of the way of horses and carts.  In his mouth he carried buttons.  Not just any buttons, but very pretty wooden buttons carved with swirly designs, still trailing bits of thread from the coat he'd pulled them off.  They were the prettiest buttons he'd ever seen.  Master Lukhain always said he should take shiny things.  These buttons weren't shiny, but they were very nice.  Surely they would make Master Lukhain happy.

Rain could see home, now.  Home was Master Luhain's market stall where he sold his leatherwork.  There was a little hole in the side of the stall where Rain could come and go while he was working.  He slipped through that hole and emerged inside the stall.  In one corner sat his cage with his blanket and his friend in it.

"A'ight there."  Master Lukhain, balding and with a prodigious paunch that hung over his belt, turned away from the street to scowl down at Rain.  "Let's see what you brung.  Better be somethin' worth it this time or I'll have you out of 'ere, by dragonfire I will!"

With a wag of his tail, Rain dropped the buttons to the dusty ground, panting from being out in the summer heat all day.  It was just past noon and he was ready for his lunch indeed!  But the canine grin on his face faltered as Master Lukhain nudged at the buttons with his boot.

"What's this, then?  Buttons?"

Rain nodded his head, little heart hammering.  Probably he should have listened and only brought home something shiny and valuable.  But those buttons were pretty!  They had to be valuable!

With a snarl and a curse, Master Lukhain aimed a kick at him, but Rain dodged to the side and darted over to the hole in the stall, his ears flat against his skull and his tail tucked low.  Oh dear, this was not good.

"Git outta here!  Go on, git!  I'm through feadin' and shelterin' you and getting nothin' in return!"  He kicked at Rain again, but the little fox shot through the hole and back out into the street again.  He cringed there before the stall, watching with wide eyes lest his master throw something at him.  That happened sometimes.

"Give ya food, give ya a place to sleep at night," the master said, picking up the little wire cage that Rain slept in with one hand and shaking a fist at Rain with the other.  Passersby were starting to stare.  "And what do I get for it? Ehh?  Buttons!  Shiny rocks!  Blasted useless shite!  Ya wouldn't know somethin' of value if it bit yer furry blue behind!  I ain't yer charity no more, git."  Lukhain pulled the blanket and Rain's friend—a tatty and faded rag doll who's head was about to fall off—and threw them into the street.  The buttons followed, scattered to the ground like they were trash.  Like they were worthless!  A box in front of the hole in the stall's wall blocked him out for good.

Rain wanted to say he was sorry.  He would jump up around the stall and apologize all day if he had too!  But his friend and his buttons and blanket were all lying in the street and getting stepped on.  He cringed by the stall, wanting back in desperately but afraid for his precious belongings.  He had to save them!

La'marri / Asking For Trouble [Rina/open]
July 21, 2008, 12:40:31 AM
If Ruben had his way, there would be no daylight.  He'd spend all hours within the observatory, just him and the stars.  But, much as he hated to admit it, some theories just couldn't be proven with equations and starmaps.  Sometimes one had to field test these things.

That was what had him trudging out here in the woods in the middle of the night, laden down with scrolls and maps and bags of equipment for taking measurements and recording data.

"I can't believe I thought this would be a good idea," he muttered, trying to make his way over the forest floor without tripping over some tree root or over his own feet and scattering everything to the ground.  "Stupid, stupid, stupid.  I'm never doing this again."  He wasn't really looking for any place in particular.  A large grassy area with a clear view of the sky away from all these trees would do.  He thought that he was heading in the direction of the village more or less.  It had to be someplace away from the observatory so the other astromancy arrays he'd laid out around the grounds wouldn't throw in interference or influence the results.

Ruben drew to a halt as he noticed a distant glow through the trees.  That would be the nighttime lights of La'marri.  The observatory was built far enough away from the village that the glare of torches and lamps wouldn't interfere with its view of the stars.

It wouldn't do to be too close to the village.  This seemed a good distance so he turned in a slow circle, casting about for a suitable spot.  It was so hard to see anything out here.  The trees blocked out the moonlight and obscured his view of the stars.  Damned if he would ever try this again.  There had to be a way to test these things without having to drag himself out into these forsaken woods.  He was sweating already from hauling all this stuff out with him and the mosquitoes were setting up a bloody buffet upon his neck and arms.

Not far away there looked to be a patch of silver that could indicate a clearing.  Once there, Ruben let his load of supplies fall to the grass and shook his arms out to work the ache from them.  This place would do.

He could be intensely focused when he was working, and in very little time he had all of his starmaps and formula listings laid out with lit candle's upon the corners, weighing down the edges against the wind.  They were arranged in a large circle, and at the center burned a small oil lamp to provide more light.  Ruben, now so wrapped up in the work he had forgotten all about the discomfort of being out on a muggy summer night, crawled about in the grass, chalking out the array.  He'd rolled up his sleeves and the three tails of his long black hair dragged upon the ground, but he took no notice.  This would be very exciting if it worked as the equations suggested!

Some night bird winged overhead, crying out sharply, and Ruben startled.  He straightened, neck stiff from having been bent downward for so long.  The array was almost finished, in all it's intricate detail, but Ruben was more interested in what might lay outside his little circle of light.  Beyond the small, flickering candles was a wall of pitch black.  The strange noises of a forest at night and the darkness around him started to work on Ruben's imagination and for a long moment he sat frozen with the chalk in his hand.

He laughed out loud, nervously.  He was just being silly.  Who would have reason to be out here in the middle of the night?  Besides himself, of course.

But then, there was the possibility of wild animals.  Ech.  Maybe he should have brought a sharp stick or...something.

Appearance:
Gospel has the body of a soldier, fit and well toned. He has long strawberry-blonde hair that he keeps in a ponytail. The hair around his face is streaked with white.  Honest gray eyes. He can invoke and release a set of white-pink glowy wings that appear on his back and allow him to fly. The wings feel solid to the touch and yet they pass through his clothing as though they were incorporeal.

Personality:
Gospel is devoted to Serendipity above all else.  He takes his responsibility to his country and her people seriously.  Serving his country has given a purpose to his otherwise rootless existence.  While he is a nice guy to law-abiding citizens, he will not hesitate to throw down on you if you piss him off or cause trouble. He could never stand by and do nothing while injustice or cruelty was being done.

Has some puritanical habits and beliefs. Doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, doesn't lie, doesn't eat meat, and has committed himself to celibacy.

History:
He was not born in Serendipity, but found a home and acceptance there.  He is on the lookout for someone else like him as he is not quite entirely human and has never yet met anyone else of his race.

Strengths:
Trained in the use of swords, daggers, and quarterstaffs.  He generally fights with an enchanted glaive that he can invoke much in the same way he invokes his wings, and it is with such polearms that he is most adept.

Weaknesses:
No magic, for one. Vulnerable to ranged weapons when in flight. His wings emit a persistent glow that makes it impossible for him to fly reconnaissance, especially at night.

My astromancer. He's a difficult person to get along with as he thinks he's better than everyone else. >.> Ruben is an intellectual and has a very typical haughty attitude. He works and lives in his observatory in La'marri, but I could find a reason for him to be out and about elsewhere, maybe traveling to Ketra for supplies or some such. He is very much the type to get himself into deep trouble and not realize it 'til it's too late.

Tyne:
A Mordecai! Er, a rather hapless Mordecai. He's not good for a whole lot besides talking a lot and being a drain on the Connlaoth economy. Hates work and tries to avoid it as much as possible. Carries a sword he doesn't know how to use. He would of course be in Reajh or elsewhere in Connlaoth.

Raziya:
This guy is a panther shapeshifter with a serious dislike of humans.  He can be absolutely anywhere except possibly a city, though I'm sure I could come up with a reason for him to be in one if I had to.  Potentially could be in captivity somewhere or caught in some trap out in a forest/jungle or be forced to help someone in trouble...lotsa possibilities with him.

[strike:29btrq7f]Soralyn:
She's a noblelady in Serendipity. What I really want to do with her is get her out of Serendipity and into an adventure. She'll eventually gain the ability to shift into a white panther. This can just be an innate ability I have her uncover over the course of the RP, but if anyone has a character that can/does create these kinds of enchantments/curses it could be done that way too and that might be fun.

I have had him for a long time and for some reason have never gotten him into a thread.  He's a soldier and can be anywhere in Serendipity. x3 He sports long strawberry blonde hair and can invoke these really pretty glowy wings on his back and fly. Very devoted to Serendipity and protecting her people. I am up for aaaanything with him.

[strike:29btrq7f]Zephaniah:
Ahaha...I don't know a whole lot about Zephan yet. He'll get developed more as I play him, so whoever takes him on will just have to be surprised. x3 He's a warrior mage, and he travels a lot so he can be anywhere. Absolutely anywhere. He believes magic is meant to be used, not just studied and theorized over, and he is not shy about using his mageskill to fight. He likes adventure! 8D Hoo boy, he'd be in trouble if he found himself in Connlaoth for some freak reason.

[strike:29btrq7f]Rain:
Rain is a kitsune with three different forms: a fox, a human, and a third form he does not tell anyone about. >.> He would be in Arca or Ketra since he likes people.  Now, I actually could start a thread with him. He's currently stuck in fox form and needs someone to help him break the curse. It occurred to me might be stuck working as a thief for some awful man who keeps him in a cage. (Rain steals a lot anyway and is a compulsive hoarder.) But that's just one idea. I'm open to whatever else.

I know nooothing about this guy. x3 He's probably a warrior. He looks like a warrior. All I have is his appearance, and a starting point for his personality. Anyone feel like Character Surprise? 8D

A ridiculously wealthy merchant in Adela. Practically owns all of Ketra. Spends most of his time stumbling from party to party, drinking his life away. An unrepentant hedonist.  Possibly involved in some shady dealings. >.>
