By the time she'd come through the door he'd given up his search for the mop he was certain was hiding from him. He quickly dropped to his hands and knees as he rummaged through the cupboards for even a simple bucket and some rags. Lucien was looking in all the wrong places, though, because all he was finding was cookware, spices, and ingredients. None of it gave him enough of a kick to any of the small closets in the hall instead of their baking kitchen.
His curiosity quickly got the better of him, though. Before long he was pulling jars out from storage to sit there and look at labels on things that were very much not his to mess with, trying to guess what was in them as he recognized very few words of written language. Unaware that someone else was there, he sat there turning a small jar of honey over and over, watching the stuff inside ooze down to the bottom with each turn. Thoroughly distracted, the sounding of the bell scared him half to death.
Gasping, he dropped the jar and with a muffled crunch it cracked a bottom corner off and started oozing honey across the floor. Panicking, he shot up and tried to find something, anything, to hide his mistake. "Just a moment!" he called worriedly, gulping as he raced across the kitchen when his eye caught sight of the aprons hanging on a hook on the wall. He grabbed the first one he saw and ran back to the jar and the growing pool of honey and threw the apron down over it. It was something he was going to have to worry about until later.
Not hearing his hosts upstairs at all, though, he could only assume that they were out at the moment. Unsure what he should even do with the customer in their store, he figured he would just tell them that the owners were gone. Flustered, he made his way to the little half door that separated the kitchen from the storefront and was about to launch into an apology when he noticed the young woman from before.
"Oh!" he squeaked, genuinely surprised. "Hello again," he greeted, a slow smile creeping across his lips as he struggled with what he should tell her. "Did you need something, Miss?"
