The black dragon gave a series of short grunts and huffs of annoyance, as if her slow, gradual presence on his back was the biggest inconvenience imaginable. He watched her from one eye, head tilted to observe the, to him, odd way she chose to climb up and get herself settled.
'Yes. Thankfully I barely feel your weight,' he informed her, lowering his wings again to fold loosely at his sides with the danger of any unwanted tugging already past. It was an odd sensation, though. He couldn't even remember the last time he'd done such a thing and wondered if perhaps he never had before.
There was an odd sense of warmth that didn't come from the physical contact. An oddly comfortable feeling coiled within him like a dancing flame waiting to burst free. He wondered if it was his fire, if he should take care to expend some of it while they were out.
'Remember,' he began again distractedly, 'no complaints from you about this.' And with that he was turning to face out towards the great emptiness beyond his cave, looking out at the expanse of air between his and the next mountain.
His claws tapped anxiously along the rocks, gripping on as he eased himself out, craning his neck as though afraid he might fall while practically teetering on the shelf.
Leathery wings slowly unfurled and he pressed them forward to rise and fall gently along the current shooting up along the mountain. With a short, chirping cry he let go, allowing himself to fall forward before practically pouncing onto the unseen draft that would lift them higher, up and away from the comfort of his home.
With his paws free Xibalba curled them comfortably against himself as he glided along with the currents, black wings flapping sparingly, just enough to keep them smoothly airborne as he darted through the mountain range.
He didn't dare turn his head. Making any move to "check" on the young human was an obvious sign of concern, he thought, and of course he had none of that. But for the first time in his life the drive to reach out to a human nagged at him, curious if she was enjoying it despite how he'd only offered to try to scare her. Unbelievable.
