The touch of their hands surprised him, looking down quickly to make sure it hadn't been a mistake and blushing a bit to notice how she gently curled their hands together. He grasped hers gently, not wanting her to think he didn't want the contact just because it had been unexpected. Her concern for him was also unexpected but appreciated.
"A bit, but I can manage. I'm just a bit out of practice with dancing." He waved it off with his free hand, not wanting to place any blame on her despite how she'd stepped on him repeatedly. Moving forward, Jack opened the door and stepped through to lead her back outside. His family's farm was about a twenty minute walk in the opposite direction. Now oriented, it would be easy for him to take her there. The main house was at the end of a narrower footpath, a tall barn behind it and their pastures and crop fields further beyond.
Seeming small in the distance but accessible to the main path around the bend was the house that would eventually be their own. Its barn was a little run down and the pastureland surrounding it too small now to handle all of the livestock of the West family. Altogether it would be good for the newlywed couple, though, enough room to grow into where Jack felt their current home was overfull. It would probably feel even moreso until they could move as a couple.
"This is it," he announced casually, gesturing out at the house he currently called home and leading her through the door without ceremony. The main room was the majority of their living space with the kitchen space and hearth on one side and three bedrooms on the other with a small space for a bath crammed in.
"Not much to it," Jack remarked simply, having no resentment over their quant home. He pointed to each door in succession as he explained the layout, "That's for my parents and brother, my sisters share that, and the other is mine. Well, ours now. The last one is the bath, but we don't use it much. Well, Ma will to relax sometimes but we're close to one side of the river. I think that's easier." He realized he was probably rambling on, saying too much and promptly shut his mouth with an apologetic smile.
"Let me show you my- our room," he offered, briefly squeezing her hand to settle his nerves as he stepped closer to open the door for her. It was a small, simple room with little furniture aside from the bed but it had a large window that looked out across their pastures. "Did you want rest for a while before the others come back?"
